Welcome to the Coven

Wandering through the woods you find several beaten paths, all leading a variety of directions. One appears to be more beaten than the others and peaks your interest. Taking this path you are lead winding through the woods. The colors are dark, cool, and refreshing.

That all changes the deeper you travel. The dark cool colors disappear and are replaced with warm, bright rays from the sun and beneath your paws the beaten path gives way to lush grass. You don't have much time to bask in the sun and consider this little sanctuary you've discovered before you hear whispers, and then complete conversations not far off.

Were the rumors true? A thought provoked by curiosity, and pushed you forward. In the back of your mind you recall the ramblings of a wolf on your way to the woods. Going on about fortune tellers. These fortune tellers were infamous, you had heard of them before and though they may not be the reason for your visit (right away) they may be the reason not long after. How could you not get your fortune told?

You pause, to try and listen for anything above the whispers, but you are out of luck. So you press forward, perhaps more cautiously this time. You pass row after row of trees, until you find a clearing, a grove. The grove is like no other that you have seen. Scattered are a number of tree stumps, and their fallen counterpart, seemingly overgrown by the continued lush greenery. Center most to the grove is the apparent cause for some of the damage, though some still seems unexplained, but what you see before you can only be the hollowed trunk of a life tree. There are wolves milling about, none of them meet your eye, but one.

“Welcome traveler, you've found the Coven of the Pale Raven.”

And just like that the rumors become truth, there are fortune tellers in these woods.

OOC: Traveler Note
If you are of the Berserker breed then you may not be greeted so kindly. It’s not to say that they won’t be polite, just a little more cold. The pack has history with them and it’s highly suggested that you read the packs history.

A History Shrouded in fear
The Coven of the Pale Raven is home to a pack of devout Seers. The pack acts as a sanctuary, a safe space, for those who have been gifted by sight. A gift so rare that the pack itself, even as a sanctuary to harbor seers, only has so many themselves. Among them is Pale Raven, Daughter of the Berserker King, a powerful seer.

It is said that Pale Raven and her mother sought refuge outside of the Waylands after fleeing for their lives. Her father, the Berserker King, had gone mad and made an attempt on her life and as a result she severed ties. Unfortunately the same could not be said for her older brother, who perished in battle, and in doing so leaves her to be the only pure blooded child of the King. The pair of escaped wolves had quite the journey ahead of them. Leaving the Waylands is no easy feat, but both mother and daughter survived.

Not long after they found refuge and was finally gifted with some semblance of peace the Pale Raven was given a secondary gift. This gift came in the form of a vision, a well timed one, and in it she found her home. The vision began with blurred greens, blues, and blacks. A large form smoothly slid from her vision, seemingly blocking her view, and as it left the view became clear. Before her was picturesque rolling woods, tight together, save for one open grove. Within that grove was a fallen tree, a very large fallen tree, that filled her with a feeling of life even from so far away. This fallen life tree was calling to her, warming her with a sense of home.

The long journey took them across Kells, but was worth the trek as they entered the Forest and were able to revel in the joys of the soft grasses between their toes. Those first few steps would likely be something they would never forget, but it would soon pale in comparison to the home they would come to find. Nestled deep into the forest, surrounded by life and plush greenery, lay the fallen tree that Pale Raven had envisioned. It's life had ended, perhaps abruptly, and now there it lay.. partially hollow and seemingly just for them. What little magic it still possessed seemed to help maintain it's condition, fortunately for the pack that would soon call it home.

Leadership - Ashen Crow x Pale Raven
  • Though Ashen Crow is the Alpha of the pack, Pale Raven runs the show.
    • This is her pack, one that he gladly protects.

Culture / Traditions
Birth - All births are a cause for celebration. With life comes strength, and therefore pups guarantee a future for the pack.

Birth of a Seer - Upon identifying that the pup is a seer the mother will surrender her to Pale Raven. She will then confirm that the pup is indeed a seer, and then their training will begin with Pale Raven as well as other pack seers. During their puppyhood they will stick close by their tutors, with limited interactions outside of them - including with family. Most external interactions with others will be to nurse, and for brief visits. To outsiders this tradition may seem harsh, but the mothers of the pack trust in the seers to do what is in the best interest of her pup. Once the pup reaches adulthood they have a lot more freedom to see their family as they please.

Death - The pack is very nature driven and believe firmly that when a wolf passes away that they are intended to be returned to the earth from which they came. For this reason their dead are buried.

Death of a Seer - “When I die, I give my life to them.” A statement which drives a very important belief to the Coven. When one seer dies, another is born to take its place. This is the meaning of that very statement - which was uttered by a past seer as they lay dying, at the time it was meant as words of comfort, but eventually became a part of the Covens firm beliefs. It is likely that when a seer passes the pack is watching those expectant mothers to see which of them has been chosen to rebirth the lost seer. If no seers are born then the lost seer has chosen a different vessel to return too.

Samhain - is a festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. Traditionally, it is celebrated from 31 October to 1 November. It is seen as a liminal time, when the boundary between this world and the Veil could more easily be crossed. The Coven believes that remnants of the Gods can be reached during this time.

Location / Landmarks
The Coven has settled in a deep part of the forest. From afar the forest may seem nearly undisturbed, a part of their defenses, but upon closer inspection (for a trained tracker) it is apparent that there is near constant activity.

Their primary home is the “Hollow”, a fallen life tree, which provided the founding members shelter and a safe place while they rested. Seeing this scene for the first time is breathtaking. The trunk itself is almost centered in a grove of lush plant life, it’s very apparent that although the life tree has fallen it still had plenty to give.

Marriage
A bond, or marriage, is created out of loyalty and pride. The coven views all marriages equally (male x female, female x female, male x male). In cases where marriage is between two individuals that cannot naturally reproduce they will seek out a third party (another wolf), it is very likely that the married pair will go to this wolf for future litters to ensure that the bloodline stays pure. This is ideal to ensure that there is a reduced amount of crossed lines, increasing the odds of finding a future partner for their pups.

Appearance
Appearance is only important in that they appear poised, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The pack accepts all color variations and especially not picky if the individual is a Seer.
Although the pack may appear welcoming to individuals within it, they may appear skeptical to onlookers beyond guards. Their history of a tortured past leaves that keenly aware of strangers. When it comes to Berserkers they may be more hesitant to welcome them or leave them without an escort.

Rules / Guidelines
The only Wildlife welcome are Birds.

A Familiar Spirit, your bird companion. Even though it may have an independent life of its own, it remains closely linked to it's bound Wolf. The familiar spirit will always be in the form of a bird in the Coven. Your bond with your Familiar is very important. You two will be attached for life and do everything together. If you travel your bird will travel with you. If your familiar dies it will be like apart of you dies with it.

  • Crows/Owls/Vultures are coveted among the Coven and used as a way to communicate with other seers around the world, other packs, and all over Kells as needed.

Politics: Alliances & Enemies
  • Moongate - Alliance / Blood ties
  • Murkwood - Alliance / Marriage
  • Dawnstar - Alliance / Blood ties / Marriage
  • The Swamplukers - Alliance / Blood ties

The Vilebloods
Pack Hunters, fighters, and medics.

Leader: Bloodborne
Seer Lead: Crimson Queen

The Crows: (Master: 01) (0/3)
A coveted hunter title, this rank is allowed to venture past the Pack's territory in order to kill their mark/target. This rank is saved for only the most efficient and successful hunters/fighters in the pack.

The Hounds - The Military: (lead 0/2) (0/∞)
Hounds are the protecters of the Pack, they hunt on the Pack's lands but never leave the territory.

Healers - Healers of the Coven: (Master: 0/2) (0/∞)
This rank would be for healers that are bound to the Coven, they tend to the wounded Hounds and care for the maimed. It's a bloody job. They also act as field medics for the Pack and often join Hounds on dangerous tasks.

Basic Rank information:
    • All hunting ranks are duel sex, no gender is lesser in the Coven, though females fit to bare cubs pups extremely important to the life of the pack, female Hounds are allowed to take time away from their duties to start a family.
    • Pups are often raised together, and are taught hunting skills and life lessons at a very young age.

Q: Is Pale Raven the alpha of the pack?
A: Her mate Ashen Crow is the Alpha! However, Raven is a shadow leader. She rules alongside her mate, and he would do anything to please her.

Q: Are males allowed in the Coven?
A: Of course! It's a pack built of strong females, but males are allowed in as well!

Q: Are Seers important in the Coven?
A: Seers are the most important! This pack is a safe haven for all seers who are homeless and need a place to belong. Raven will take in any Seer who is in need.

Q: Are same sex couples allowed?
A: Love is fluid in the Coven! It is common for female x female pairs to exist within the Pack, as the Coven is mostly female dominated. Male x male pairs are also completely acceptable, but are less common due to the shortage of males.

Q: Can females in the Coven breed outside of the pack?
A: Raven blesses any female who wishes to breed outside of the pack. In order to bring new blood in this is very important. Puppies born to a female in the Coven will join the Coven until they are old enough to leave (If they’d like to!)

Q: What if my wolf has a seer?
A: That puppy will grow up to be the highest rank in the Coven, and become a Pack Fortune teller.

Q: Does the Coven hate Berserkers?
A: The Pack is a bit wary of Berserkers due to Raven’s lineage, and will be fearful of one that wants to enter the pack.
