Depends really, Thieves can level on their own more and more as their agi goes up and they get hit less. Less it less pots.
Acos on the other hand, depending on what route you go on (FS or Battle) depends on how effectiently you level.
Ask yourself, do you want to support? or fight?
If its support, go FS/ME Acolyte, if you go battle go Theif, Battle aco simple as that.

It really depends, like Khoa said. Thieves have more agility, thus they don't get hit as often. Acos are really for support unless you make a battle acolyte.
If it were me, I'd make a thief, but that's just me sweatdrop

I think it mostly depends on what you want to do. Speaking as someone who's leveled a fs priest to 99 then trans classed and all that junk. Priest is fun but being fs can be annoying when you don't have anyone to party with and you really want to. (buuut at the same time there is almost always someone who wants to party a FS)
Theif can be fun if you have the right gear. My first ro character was a theif and i leveled like snail, but then again I didn't pay attention to cards or any of that.
Priest's/acos are generally cheap and you can get by with just defense gear and still be fairly good, plus you can level in higher level areas with a group. As a theif, your going to spend alot of time soloing, unless you have friends you play with.
Er yeah...i hope i was some help :d

Personaly, I like both. But if you love speed so much try thieves out. They can even intoxicate enemies with Envenom!
If you're more of the supportive type (like me), pick Acolyte. Two words: "Heal please"! That's their root of their class! You'd also have a HUGE upperhand to Zombies, Skeletons, etc. since their skills are Holy element skills.
Thief 2nd jobs are Assassin (Sin for short) or Rouge. Sins have the ability to enchant their Katar/Dagger with Poison. While Rouge can divest enemies or players in PVP of their gear. I should know, it happened to me once but I countered it with Full Protection.
Acolyte 2nd jobs are Priests (take cover for a lot of Heal requests) or Monks. Priests are VERRRY armed with supportive skills that also as well damage undeads. Monks on the other hand wield spirutal powers and fist fighting. YES, FISTS. I picked both because 1. Priests are Holy, I couldn't resist the element! 2. Monks are melee fighters. You can pick that if you can't stand being so weak.

Thief's level easy and are good without awesome equipment.
Acolytes are good for support but are really hard to level and are really hard to level without good equipments.
Assassins are kinda easy to level while priests are really hard to level unless you are a good battle priest or a good ME priest.

I say theif - - - > They have a bigger of variety of weapon && weapon use. They can use bows, swords, and daggers... And are good with each. I prefer bows though.

Go for a thief, that way you don't have to rely on someone else to help level you up~ You can level whenever you want, and depending on the kinda of class you pick, and the type, you can practically go everywhere!~ *speaks as a DD/crit assassin* Though it'll take quite awhile, and it will be very expensive to get your dream weapons as a assassin, it should be worth it. =3
