Few trees grew and the only protection from the sea and winds were those that her ancestors had built for themselves. Few vegetables grew in the salty soil and those that did were just as stubborn as the residents. The villages main source of food and supplies were from the sea, the village was made from predominantly fish faunus, although a few old and resistant humans clung onto that rock for all they were worth. Xanthe's family were sealers by trade, she was taught by the elders on the nature of the world that the sea was their mother, that all things come from it and it protects them in turn. When she was eleven she was taken on her first hunt, the group separated a seal for her and handed her a blade. When she returned with her kill they presented her with the splintered remains of her grandfather’s weapon as a congratulations for a job well done. It was not uncommon to present broken weapons to the younger generation, it was up to them if they wanted to use them or forge another. Xanthe chose to keep the blade but remade the spear.
A few years prior a fair few of the villages’ hunters had left to the mainland, conscripted by the Kingdom of Atlas to fight the grimm. This was not a choice made lightly; the elders knew that if Atlas wished it they would have all been "recruited" to work in some capacity. The loss of the conscripted soldier’s severely weakened the defence of the village. So it came to pass that one winter’s night when the sea feeling particularly spiteful, Xanthe was on guard duty. The air was cold, it was going to snow and she could taste it already, but there was something else in the air that night. As she gazed across the ocean she thought she saw more than just the spray on the waves, but it was until the clouds were blown aside for a moment and the scene bathed in moonlight that she knew that they were in for a hard night. Hundreds of grimm were swimming straight towards them, she ran to sound the alarm but someone else had raised it before she had even got there. It was decided that they were outnumbered, but it was also decided that this was their island and nobody was going to take it from them. The villagers mounted a defence, every man woman and child stood fast that night. They might not have been trained to fight but all of them knew how to survive, how to kill. Living on that island had taught them all how to spit in natures face and tell it just where to shove it. It was a long and hard fought battle, every villager gave their all but sadly the numbers too great and their lack of a range led to them being cornered. Xanthe fought alongside the tanner and his wife and managed to create an opening for the rest to retreat, before being swarmed and dragged out to sea.
She woke a few days later in a refugee camp near Vale, apparently she had been taken there by the rest of the survivors of the village. They had been lucky and spotted the light reflecting off her spear. She attended the wakes for those that were lost and spoke about the heroism of the tanner and his wife who gave their lives so that she could survive. While talks were held about retaking their island, it became much more apparent that the mainland was in much worse shape than they had been led to believe. After reconnecting with a group of fisher folk who had been conscripted years before it was decided that they would stay in the Vale and assist with the grimm problem until such a time that they could return home. Xanthe enrolled in the academy, it was her opinion that if they were going to be staying on the mainland then she would need to know how to hunt the grimm. She took her spear to the weapon smiths the day she was accepted in order to modify her weapon to involve a ranged option.

█PRIMARY WEAPON █ ▬ The Ninth Wave █ ▬ A spear designed for hunting marine life and defending the village. The nineth wave gets it's name from the furthest point from shore before leaving the island they call home, and to pass beyond without permission is the same as exile. Xanthe inherited the spear head from her Grandfather as is tradition and fashioned the spear itself from wood on the island. After their conscription and loss of their home, Xanthe took the spear to the smiths of the vale to include a ranged function. █Melee Form ▬ Spear - A 1.2 meter long shaft with a 25 CM blade at the end. The shaft of the spear is thicker towards the blade as it contains the launching mechanism and chain for the harpoon gun. The blade forms a 'V' shape with tip designed for quick thrusts and the hooks to lacerate flesh on the way out of the body. A second pair of hooks sticks out of the metal below the first. █Ranged Form ▬ Harpoon gun - The spearhead can be retracted into the shaft, this opens a chamber near the base that needs to be loaded with a bullet in order to launch the missile. Standard harpoon cannons are fired using black powder but in order to streamline the process for combat it has been designed to use a bullet instead. Firing the harpoon gun launches the spear head connected to a chain into whatever is unlucky enough to be standing in front of it. Pushing the trigger forwards in the same manner that one might load a repeater activates a mechanism connected to the chain pulling the spear out of whatever it's managed to hit and back towards the pole. The chain is 20ft long. After release, it takes approximately one post to automatically reel in, it can then be fired again a post after that as it needs to be manually reloaded. If the chain is severed, it will take three posts to reload and then one more to reload the harpoon gun. █Other Form(s) ▬ (Additional Forms) █Ammo Type ▬ The harpoon is pysical only, if the spear head has been buffed then it will retain that property but it isn't possible to use a bullet to buff the "Harpoon". █ ▬ The harpoon was a recent feature and as such Xanthe is not used to it. Faunus Trait - Super cool that she can use these gills to breathe for a bit underwater - how long is she able to do this for? You can give us a better idea by post count, as timing (ex. 30 seconds) doesn't really translate to posting styles. This can just be a maximum amount of time before she has to come up and take a breath.

- The only thing I have to say here that I need added in is cooldown amounts for things, for example how long is the cooldown before she is able to use the harpoon gun again once used?

- You do not have to edit it in here as it is just a personal issue, however, when you are posting with this semblance many individuals might be confused at how heavy she really becomes. You are more than welcome to add in a comparison object in order for a reference to be available, if not, try and include this in your posts as people can't overpower her or vise versa.
- Can you give me an idea of how this impacts the environment and parts of her body please? It doesn't have to be big. So for example, if she becomes heavier, does this mean her punches would impact more? Her slashes with a blade, although slower, will be much more severe?
- For a drawback I'd include something about the environment, if she goes four times as heavy she practically 800lbs, you have mentioned her movement become more limited, however what about the ground she is on or if she is underwater? Does she sink? Would she fall through things etc.

- Again, you don't have to do this. However your level 0 semblance is really cool, but I'd honestly suggest making it a little bit stronger? Either reducing post count or increasing how long it lasts, you don't have to do this if you like it - but you can!

She does not need to keep them constantly wet as when she is on land she is able to breathe through her nose. If she is swimming she is able to 'breathe' underwater for five minutes (five posts), however if she is stationary she can only stay submergered for a minutes (one post). █Other Talents ▬ Oceanic hunter - Xanthe was born to live in the sea, it's only natural that she excels in hunting the current inhabitants of it. Fishing is such a crude word when compared to the ruthless dance only she knows the steps of. Weather reading - Xanthe has a knack for reading the air and knowing if it's going to rain, it's not perfect but she's right more often than not. █LEARNT ABILITIES █Strongest Skill ▬ Spear wielding - Xanthe spends four hours a day training with her spear, it rarely leaves her side and is treated like an extension of herself. █Weakest Skill ▬ Marksmanship - Xanthe often shows reluctance to fire her harpoon, this stems from her poor accuracy at anything further away than point blank range. █Other Skills ▬ Sealing - While some would consider the skill barbaric, on Xanthe's island sealing was one of the main forms of food and supplies. Xanthe was shown how to catch and kill seals at a young age to get her used to the killing. It goes without saying that she also knows how to skin and dissect the creatures for their valuable resources. Cooking - Her village trains all the young adults to cook by tradition, without that skill then there is no way that their people would live on. The island they called home was harsh and unforgiving, without the ability to cook most would get sick and die before the end of the winter months. █LIKES █ ▬ Listening to the sounds of the sea, it is one of the few things that can truly calm her. █ ▬ People who love a good fight, someone who understands the importance of going a few rounds just to let off steam. Noisy, vicious, what even is there to like about them. █ ▬ That she'll never see her home again, that the ocean will be forever lost or out of reach. █PERSONALITY TRAITS █Nature ▬ Xanthe is a bold individual who doesn't shy away from a challenge. She can appear brash at the offset but that is simply because she treats those she deems her peers as such regardless of social stature. There are those that she respects and treats with reverence, mainly elders and those that have something to teach. She is honest, sometimes too much for her own good, but tries to avoid hurting other people's feelings if she can help it. She likes to deal with things head on. Xanthe treats her friends well, and will make her enemies rue the day they crossed her. █Vernacular ▬ Xanthe was raised in a small fishing village, she was taught how to address the elders with respect. Everyone else is spoken to with a friendly attitude. █BACKGROUND ▬ Xanthe was born in the small village of Menrath, named for the island located on the northern edge of the continent, the island was a small and barren rock that no sane person would inhabit. Few trees grew and the only protection from the sea and winds were those that her ancestors had built for themselves. Few vegetables grew in the salty soil and those that did were just as stubborn as the residents. The villages main source of food and supplies were from the sea, the village was made from predominantly fish faunus, although a few old and resistant humans clung onto that rock for all they were worth. Xanthe's family were sealers by trade, she was taught by the elders on the nature of the world that the sea was their mother, that all things come from it and it protects them in turn. When she was eleven she was taken on her first hunt, the group separated a seal for her and handed her a blade. When she returned with her kill they presented her with the splintered remains of her grandfather’s weapon as a congratulations for a job well done. It was not uncommon to present broken weapons to the younger generation, it was up to them if they wanted to use them or forge another. Xanthe chose to keep the blade but remade the spear.
A few years prior a fair few of the villages’ hunters had left to the mainland, conscripted by the Kingdom of Atlas to fight the grimm. This was not a choice made lightly; the elders knew that if Atlas wished it they would have all been "recruited" to work in some capacity. The loss of the conscripted soldier’s severely weakened the defence of the village. So it came to pass that one winter’s night when the sea feeling particularly spiteful, Xanthe was on guard duty. The air was cold, it was going to snow and she could taste it already, but there was something else in the air that night. As she gazed across the ocean she thought she saw more than just the spray on the waves, but it was until the clouds were blown aside for a moment and the scene bathed in moonlight that she knew that they were in for a hard night. Hundreds of grimm were swimming straight towards them, she ran to sound the alarm but someone else had raised it before she had even got there. It was decided that they were outnumbered, but it was also decided that this was their island and nobody was going to take it from them. The villagers mounted a defence, every man woman and child stood fast that night. They might not have been trained to fight but all of them knew how to survive, how to kill. Living on that island had taught them all how to spit in natures face and tell it just where to shove it. It was a long and hard fought battle, every villager gave their all but sadly the numbers too great and their lack of a range led to them being cornered. Xanthe fought alongside the tanner and his wife and managed to create an opening for the rest to retreat, before being swarmed and dragged out to sea.
She woke a few days later in a refugee camp near Vale, apparently she had been taken there by the rest of the survivors of the village. They had been lucky and spotted the light reflecting off her spear. She attended the wakes for those that were lost and spoke about the heroism of the tanner and his wife who gave their lives so that she could survive. While talks were held about retaking their island, it became much more apparent that the mainland was in much worse shape than they had been led to believe. After reconnecting with a group of fisher folk who had been conscripted years before it was decided that they would stay in the Vale and assist with the grimm problem until such a time that they could return home. Xanthe enrolled in the academy, it was her opinion that if they were going to be staying on the mainland then she would need to know how to hunt the grimm. She took her spear to the weapon smiths the day she was accepted in order to modify her weapon to involve a ranged option.
█ █ ╫ I N V E N T O R Y ╫
█PRIMARY WEAPON █ ▬ The Ninth Wave █ ▬ A spear designed for hunting marine life and defending the village. The nineth wave gets it's name from the furthest point from shore before leaving the island they call home, and to pass beyond without permission is the same as exile. Xanthe inherited the spear head from her Grandfather as is tradition and fashioned the spear itself from wood on the island. After their conscription and loss of their home, Xanthe took the spear to the smiths of the vale to include a ranged function. █Melee Form ▬ Spear - A 1.2 meter long shaft with a 25 CM blade at the end. The shaft of the spear is thicker towards the blade as it contains the launching mechanism and chain for the harpoon gun. The blade forms a 'V' shape with tip designed for quick thrusts and the hooks to lacerate flesh on the way out of the body. A second pair of hooks sticks out of the metal below the first. █Ranged Form ▬ Harpoon gun - The spearhead can be retracted into the shaft, this opens a chamber near the base that needs to be loaded with a bullet in order to launch the missile. Standard harpoon cannons are fired using black powder but in order to streamline the process for combat it has been designed to use a bullet instead. Firing the harpoon gun launches the spear head connected to a chain into whatever is unlucky enough to be standing in front of it. Pushing the trigger forwards in the same manner that one might load a repeater activates a mechanism connected to the chain pulling the spear out of whatever it's managed to hit and back towards the pole. The chain is 20ft long. After release, it takes approximately one post to automatically reel in, it can then be fired again a post after that as it needs to be manually reloaded. If the chain is severed, it will take three posts to reload and then one more to reload the harpoon gun. █Other Form(s) ▬ (Additional Forms) █Ammo Type ▬ The harpoon is pysical only, if the spear head has been buffed then it will retain that property but it isn't possible to use a bullet to buff the "Harpoon". █ ▬ The harpoon was a recent feature and as such Xanthe is not used to it. It has a one shot mechanism that requires that the spear be withdrawn after every shot. If the chain on the harpoon was ever to be severed Xanthe would have to reload the spearhead manually before she could effectively deal with whoever she's fighting.

The heavier she is at the time of impact the harder her hits land. █*LEVEL 0 ▬ Xanthe density is increased and as such she becomes twice as heavy for 2 posts. For reference, this is about as heavy as a fridge freezer. Cooldown 3 posts. █*LEVEL 1▬ Xanthe density is increased further and as such she becomes three as heavy. For reference, this is about as heavy as a baby grand piano. Cooldown 2 posts. █*LEVEL 2▬ Xanthe understands how to reduce her density and become lighter as a result, she can now become twice as light. She still knows how to become heavier and can become three times as heavy. She can only do one at a time and must wait for the cool down before being able to shift her weight. While she is lighter her she is able to jump higher but like her heavier form it also causes her movements to slow down. Duration is 2 posts. Cooldown 2 posts. █*LEVEL 3 ▬ Xanthe's understanding of density allows her to both become lighter and heavier. She can now become three times as light and four times as heavy. Duration is 2 posts but can be cancelled early or shifted to the alternate density weight. Cooldown 2 posts normally, if weight is shifted the cooldown is 3 posts. Her maximum wight at this point is about the same as an adult Mediterranean Monk Seal. █*DRAWBACKS ▬ Her power takes a severe toll on her body, as she become heavier it becomes harder and harder to move her body, to the point where her body locks into place until it wears off or she dispels it. Likewise the lighter she becomes the easier it is for her to be blown back or knocked over. If activated in water her increased weight can severely hinder her ability to swim and lead to her drowning or alternatively she would be unable to sink if her weight is decreased.
