The neighbors hadn't always agreed, mind you. Their neighbors had been a family of selkies, and their only son seemed to have declared Davey to be his archnemesis fairly early on in life. Well, fair enough--it was a little early to be declaring nemeses, and making fun of Kaito and pissing him off was actually really fun. He didn't have the guile that Davey's sisters had had. It was so much easier to play pranks on him and rile him up. Of course, that had lead to Davey being bitten a few times, but it was worth it.
Honestly, though, teasing a thin-skinned seal hadn't really been the reason that Davey had been around. Kaito's sister Eirwen had been the reason. Maybe it had been a childhood crush, puppy love. Maybe it had been just nice to talk to her. He didn't know why, but he had had a lot of fun as a foal, spending time with Eirwen.
Time went on. Davey's family split apart, and Davey found himself wandering around. He'd never been able to find a friend like Eirwen again, though, and he often found himself thinking about her and wondering what she was up to. He'd heard that a selkie was in the area, and if he was being honest with himself, that's why he was here in the area--he wanted to see if it really was, indeed, Eirwen. Maybe it was Kaito. Or one of the others. Still, he was confident that he could defend himself. He wasn't worried about that at all. He just wanted to maybe, just maybe, find an old friend again, and respark that old connection.
It would be nice to have a friend again...
