Quote: The candy cane was unlike any other that you’ve seen before, and it was even more surprising since it was hidden in a box of the normal red and white kind. It’s a beautiful blue with silver and clear stripes in it that seem to glisten. When you start to eat this holiday treat, it seems colder than normal, and after about fifteen minutes, part of your body seems a lot colder, in fact…it seems to have been turned to ice. The ice lasts for an hour and will not melt nor shatter. It then fades, with warmth finally coming back to the frozen body part. It doesn’t matter if you only take a taste of the wintery treat, the effect is the same no matter how much you ingest! Boy, this will sure stop you from thinking twice before eating strangely colored candy canes! In the Croix house, there was only one standing holiday tradition that Landry go behind, and that was the complete and utter banishment of Lori from the kitchen. While normally he'd allow her to come in for snacks and what not (though she was absolutely not allowed to touch the stove if he was not in the apartment. A sibling agreement, honestly), during the holidays the kitchen became locked down.
Despite his general outlook on life and the city and people, no one could doubt Landry's generosity. He would not give his personal time to those less fortunate, but he could offer his baked goods.
Piles upon piles of cakes and cookies and pies were made in the past few days, all delicately wrapped up and packed away in boxes ready to be picked up by the local food kitchen. Some would say he was simply doing this for praise and personal validation and he would argue "So ******** what?". It was his own prerogative to do whatever the hell he wanted with his time off from school, and if that meant baking a great deal and giving it all away in a flaunt of his personal wealth and 'generosity', then they had no right to judge.
Hell, he'd even go so far as to leave a few pies and plates of cookies in the Negaverse Barracks, since Chip seemed to frequent that place these days in his little laboratory. Though it was more likely that kitten would rather have a tiny hand-pie to himself rather than take from the other agents.
Either way, his kitchen was lined with boxes of goods, among them seemed to be a half-used container of candy canes. It was more resourceful to go grab a box of wrapped candy canes and crush them by hand than getting an overpriced bag of peppermint bits for peppermint bark. He nearly tossed the the smaller box in with the other donations, until a particularly pretty one stood out.
It glistened there, a cool blue and silver among all the red and white. Perhaps a free give away, or some sort that came with a special box. He had no interest in prizes however, and simply set that one aside to keep before unceremoniously dumping the rest along with the donations.
People came by soon enough to pick up his 'gifts', and about twenty minutes later, he expected Gryphon to come by to enjoy whatever leftovers he felt were worth keeping. A bit of peppermint would do good to clear the flavors from his tongue... So he gave into the temptation and flopped on his couch for a little while, enjoying a christmas baking competition on the television until Gryphon arrived.
Strange though, how his body seemed to get colder and colder, but he brushed it off. It was winter what did he expect? Nothing a few extra blankets and Gryph couldn't fix.
When he got here, anyway.

Landry was the kind of kid who seemed to have a lot of expectations. Conversely, Gryphon was the type of man who didn’t really have very many at all. At first, blondie’s demands and bossiness had been worrisome, almost stressful. It could be somewhat difficult to keep up with all that Landry wanted and needed, and they were not always in the same mindset. Landry wanted constant attention only when he wanted it, he did not appreciate being teased, and Gryphon needed to get on his schedule. Landry kept ‘normal’ person hours of rising in the morning and sleeping at night.
Gryphon was a bit more easygoing than that. He did have a few obligations with his work, but even those were looser than a typical job. If nothing else, he was often available when Landry wanted him. He slept when he wanted to and did like relaxing, but he also liked exploring. The city was fine; there was always something new to find in Destiny City, but if he had his way, he’d be a bit farther away than that.
Out and about in places undiscovered and untamed.
Judging from the night they’d spent along the slightly wilder outskirts of the city, Gryphon wasn’t convinced that Landry was particularly thrilled with the wilderness. He’d adapted well enough, from the security of the back of Gryph’s truck, but Gryphon got the impression Lan wasn’t crazy about it and would’ve been happier doing something more… indoorsy. They could be indoors and still have the beauty of a forest and birdsong around them. It was just a matter of convincing Lan that was what he wanted.
And Gryphon didn’t like to toot his own horn, but he was getting better at convincing Landry Croix of things. Maybe they had had a rocky introduction, but blondie’s prickly tendencies had smoothed out with enough gentle coaxing from Gryph. And Gryphon’s lackadaisical approach to relationships and life had turned into something more solid with Landry’s prodding.
They’d been spending a lot of time together. More and more. And Gryphon was becoming reasonably confident of the idea of inviting himself at his leisure to Landry’s condo.
During the holidays seemed as good a time as any. Gryph didn’t really have family obligations, and Landry only had his sister, who the older man expected was more likely to be out with her friends than cooped up at home with her brother. Besides, Christmas was a perfectly romantic time! They should spend it together, and he was sure Landry preferred that to being alone.
When he arrived at the condo, he gave a knock to announce himself before slipping the key Landry had giving him into the lock and creaking the door open. “Princess?” He called, poking his head in to see if anyone else was around before stepping fully inside. “Smells good in here.” It usually did. He knocked the door shut with his foot and moved into the kitchen. No Lan in here. “Eh? Where ya at?” He spent a moment perusing the selections left on the counter before selecting a white-chocolate dipped cookie and heading toward the living room.
“Been hard at work this morning already, Lan?” He asked as he took up a post on the couch at the blond man’s feet. And then, because they had been apart for the last several hours, he tipped, touching his lips and scraping the scruff of his chin to Landry’s knee in a light kiss to the spot. Smiling softly, he hummed, “You look good today.”

”Mm...” Only a soft groan could be heard from the pile of blankets Landry was under. A hand slipped out giving a short wave before quickly returning to the blankets and their sweet, blissful warmth.
Except it wasn’t as warm has he thought it was going to be. And even that warmth was brief as his legs were exposed and a kiss was placed there.
“I look the same as I always do, Gryphon... And you can only see my knees, how do you know the rest of me looks as good?” He pushed away the blankets from his face and sat up a little... Geesh the room was cold...
It even seemed like his fingers tips were shaking a little, and the tip of his nose was a slight blue.
“It’s donations for the food kitchen down the road... I do this every year.... Anything that’s not packed away, you’re free to eat... but if you do get up, could you make me something warm to drink? I just... I can’t get warm...”

Landry always looked really especially pale when he was sat next to Gryphon's exceptionally dark skin, and Gryphon had to admit to kind of enjoying it... He was like a stunning apparition, almost unreal. "You always look good," he retorted with a shrug. But even Gryph thought something seemed a little off in the blond man's cheeks, like the color there was even more muted than usual. And he was bundled up pretty tightly.
"You feelin' a'right, Lan?" Gryphon questioned with an almost confused pinch to his brow, as he rummaged a hand beneath Landry's barricade of blankets to rub up the underside of his calf. He may as well not have even been touching a living person, Lan's skin was so cold.
"Eeysh, you want me to turn up the heater or something?" He asked, stuffing the rest of the stolen cookie in his mouth as he stood. "What do you want to drink? Coffee or tea or hot chocolate?" He moved from the couch and back toward the kitchen. He wasn't usually allowed to go rummaging through Landry's kitchen, so he didn't know exactly what his options were in regards to 'warm drink' or where it might be located. Lan had a lot more cabinet and drawer space than Gryph had at his apartment.
"Where's it at, anyway?" He asked, opening a cabinet full of flour and sugar and leavening.

"You and you're sweet words..." Landry muttered from under his blanket, though no malice was held in them. One could tell he was smiling, even as he pulled his legs closer to his body to hide them from those offending hands. But the touch was warm, and just as he was about to put his legs back out again to be felt once more, Gryphon left him. He couldn't help but whine at the loss of such great warmth, even if he asked for it himself.
"Yes, please, though I don't know if it will help. And... Hot chocolate sounds good. I feel fine, I truly do, except this cold. Maybe I should think of taking a bath, or.. Perhaps you could warm me up once you return."

He had to assume that if Landry said he wanted hot chocolate, it was probably nearby in any one of these copious amount of cabinets. Gryphon probably wouldn't have to leave the house to get any. Probably. It was winter, so surely everyone stocked up on a big 'ole box of Swiss Miss as soon as the first chill rolled through. Landry wasn't too good for Swiss Miss, was he...? He rummaged through the back of a spice cabinet and accidentally sent a little glass jar of something clattering to the floor with a grunted, "Whoops." It didn't shatter. Seemed fine to him.
He cracked open some of the drawers, causing silverware to shuffle together and little containers of spices to rattle. Landry had too much stuff in his too big kitchen, and he hadn't opted to give directions when Gryphon had asked for them.
The search wasn't a silent process.
But eventually, he found a canister that wasn't Swiss Miss, but it was some type of chocolate powder from a brand he couldn't pronounce. Good enough. He stuck a mug of milk in the microwave, mixed in a few spoonfuls of the powder once it was ready, and returned to Landry's side with the offering. "It might be nice to try and warm you up in the bath, hm?" He said as he handed Landry the mug and shot a grin at him.

While Gryphon was busy rummaging around in the kitchen, Landry seemed to bury himself further into the blankets, properly burritoing himself to try to keep what little warmth he had inside.
"... Please don't break anything." Not that he didn't trust Gryphon not to, but the warning was a habit stuck into him thanks to Lori's own clumsiness.
Eventually he returned, and he gratefully took the mug between his hands, relishing in that warmth and taking a deep drink of it.
"Hmm... You think so? Well... I think I can handle a bath. And if you want to join me, consider it an early Christmas gift."
