One would think enjoying a nice, cozy bed in a somewhat cozy cabin, in the arms of a rather cozy man would mean that sleep would come easy.
And perhaps, at first, it did. Landry never seemed to have trouble getting to sleep with that bear of a man wrapped around him. While he preferred to have more space like the ridiculously huge king size bed in his condo, this was acceptable.
Originally he hated the idea of coming out to the woods like this. So far from the world, civilization, and internet... But there was beauty here he could scarcely fathom. Yes, the world grew still in Destiny City when the snow fell, but it was absolutely nothing like the stillness that came in the woods. He could hear every single crisp of... well, everything. And none of those sounds were human.
It was utter bliss.
There was one human about, and that one... He could be the single exception to this isolated world he was in. Gryphon should feel privileged to be here with him. And surely the man did. Like the right, proper, doting lover he was, Gryphon led Landry into this world of strange, natural magic, opening his eyes to a world so incredibly unique that Landry felt like a fool for not seeing it sooner.
But that peace was broken rather easily it seems, and in a way that made absolutely no sense. Endless ringing. There was no one for atleast half a mile, but he heard it in the middle of the night, clear as day as if it were coming from the next apartment over back home.
Destiny City was known for its crazy incidents and awful situations about the holidays, but this wasn't exactly the city. Somewhat still within city limits, but not the city city. Why would there be bells? Why now, at 2 in the morning when he finally had settled down to sleep?
It was driving him simply insane... And common sense told him to ignore it and turn over to go back to sleep, but no. Damned this curiosity of his!
With a loud, audible groan, he pushed off the arm that held him and sat up, reaching for his glasses and shoving them onto his very tired face.
"Mm.... Gryphon... Gryph, wake up." While he personally was a light sleeper, the same could not be said for the man beside him, and he reached over to give him a firm shake, followed by a light kiss on the forehead. "Can't you hear that infernal ringing? My gods, my head is going to explode."

Kapoodles These are going to be Gryphon's choices! Prompt 1 Prompt 2 1. Head towards the cathedral Prompt 3 3. That Funny hat of his. You demand he hand it over. Prompt 4 1. Enjoy the wedding and scoop up more flower petals, adding them to endless shower of them. Hehehe! It was just like Gryphon had said; he was a man who could convince this prickly blond to do pretty much anything, as long as Gryph was willing to put up with a little snootiness at the start and was maybe prepared to use a little gentle physical coercion if Landry was really adamant.
And Lan had been.
He didn't want to spend his holidays in the cold, and with bugs around, and where they couldn't have food delivered to them, and what if they needed something? The store was so far.
Gryphon understood the complaints. His Lan was used to a certain standard of living that the wilderness simply could not provide. When Gryphon went camping in any season, he felt comfortable living out of the back of his truck. It was off the ground, it could fit most of the supplies he needed, and he could even siphon electricity off the car battery. He didn't need much more than that, himself.
But Landry liked beds and kitchens and working indoor plumbing.
They'd been able to compromise, and Gryphon was all too pleased for it. Destiny City was set in a valley, with mountains on all sides. It wasn't even as difficult as Gryph would have thought (he'd never even tried to find camping lodging that he'd actually have to pay for) to find a cabin nestled at the base of a mountain, surrounded by trees and with a shallow, running river right behind it. The high sides of the mountain blocked most of the moisture, meaning there was no heavy snowfall here, but everything was beautifully frosted in a thin sheet of ice from the cold of the season. It had the amenities Landry preferred, like a fireplace and warm water and cabinet space to store the copious amount of snacks they'd had to bring along.
And all the traits Gryphon enjoyed about nature: the picturesque scenery, the delicate sounds of birds and the river, peace. This was what peace felt like. He could hardly even fathom how Lan hadn't found that out earlier.
At least, it would be peaceful, if the blond man wasn't shaking him out of a sound slumber.
"Huh?" Gryphon grunted, raising his head from the pillow the blink bleary eyes at his lover. "Whassamatter?" It didn't seem like Landry was frightened so much as just annoyed, so Gryph's instinct was to simply curl his arm around the younger man again and wait for him to fuss himself back to sleep, but after another second, he started to gain a better understanding of what was going on. "Ah, yeah, guess I do," he replied, sitting up more fully and looking toward the sound.
Nothing like that usually bothered him when he was out in the woods, and as far as Gryphon understood it, there shouldn't be anyone else too close. It could be some kind of alarm, warning them of a fire or flood or avalanche, or something.
"C'mon, Lan," Gryphon grunted, swinging his legs out of bed and reaching for his jeans. "Better go make sure everything's alright."

"Alright." He wouldn't argue right now. Bells, whether or not they were common, wailing, or strange sounding, probably shouldn't be ignored. He had the same thing on his mind as Gryphon did, that they could be some sort of warning.
Granted, they were literally still within the sprawling city limits. There weren't that many mountains that could have sent snow hurling their way. A blizzard warning, that was far more likely.
Or a warning for a giant evil youma-bear.
Unpleasant either way.
Landry quickly pulled on a fluffy robe, as he already was dressed in a full matching pajama set, and slipped on his shoes that were arranged neatly beside the bed. Even in this strange place, he was prim and proper. How could he not be when he was still trying to maintain some semblance of dignity around Gryphon. Not that there was any real reason he needed to.
... There was just this urge to remain dignified and perhaps a little out of reach, to have the man think just how lucky he was to have Landry on his arm.
But right now, that was barely a thought in his mind as he grumbled by the doorway, waiting for Gryphon to come out with him.
"Do we have a lanturn or something for the dark? It's... Pretty distressingly dark outside."

Landry may have been content to head out into the dark of night in pajamas, a robe, and slip-ons, but Gryphon was certainly not. As a native-born Australian summer-child, he did not prefer the cold in almost any regard, and there was no way he was leaving the warmth of this cabin- his bed- without dressing for the season. He didn't know why he assumed Landry would be any different, especially since there was the tiny chance they may not be walking back, if something really was wrong...
He pulled on a pair of jeans and a long sleeved wool top, covered by a coat big enough that it'd probably drown the slender man next to him. Socks and boots followed. If they wee walking out into the trees, he didn't want to be in anything less.
He plucked a proper coat from the rack near the door for Landry and reached to drape it over blondie's shoulders as Gryphon stepped out. "Should put somethin' proper on, mate..." He said, flicking his fingers through the back of Landry's hair as his hand pulled away and dipping to lay a soft kiss to the smaller man's cheek.
"Dunno what year you think we're livin' in that you need a lantern. But I got a phone, and you've got a phone, and they come with flashlights right in 'em, y'know."
He pulled his from his coat pocket and tapped to bring the light on, before extending it in front of him. If he was being perfectly honest, it didn't look like much was going on. Didn't sound like much was going on, besides the ringing. Most everything seemed still, besides the rustling of trees and quiet murmur of water behind them. He extended an arm for Landry to hold to steady himself in the darkness and looked ahead.

"Given that there is the potential for this to be an emergency situation, I don't think a little bit of cold toes is something for me to deeply consider. It's wasting time to get fully dressed when it could be a life or death issue. Or it could very much be nothing, and I can go back to my room later without having to shed layer after layer." Landry was perfectly content in his lined pajamas, though he did admit he would need something more than the yacht shoes he had first slipped on. Boots made more sense, and would also keep the edges of his pants dry, so while Gryphon was distracted, he did change that.
He happily received the coat and the kiss, wishing that it was something simple so he could go back to his cozy bed with his cozy sweetheart. Sadly, it was not possible. The moment he opened the door, the ringing seemed to become louder, and very clear which direction it was coming from.
"Yes, well... My cellphone battery might be needed for something else. And an fire-based lantern would be useful for warmth, would it not?" Landry was most certainly pouting, but he had months to get used to the teasing, and it only very slightly insulted him.
"Come on, the sooner we find this, the better..."
