Snow on the ground glistens under the moonlight and seems to illuminate everything with an ethereal glow. Destiny City feels almost safe, even at night. The fresh fallen snow seems undisturbed and brings a sense of peace. Only, there’s something eerie about it. After a while, it feels like someone--or something--is watching you. In the shadows of the trees, a set of milky eyes watches. Whatever it is, it’s tall and bulky. If you walk quickly, you feel it follow you but once you leave the line of trees, it disappears. If you try to approach it, a great beast will screech at you: a six foot tall snowy white owl takes flight. It may tackle or claw at you, depending on how you approach it, but it will always take flight and disappear in the night. If you choose to attack it, for the next few nights any time you look out your window you will see glowing eyes in the distance--or worse, hear it scratching to get in. Eventually, the temperature rises and the visits stop. For now.
When finally her magic began to fade and she had nothing left to use, Laven exhaled heavily. Sides aching with a harsh pinching almost burning sensation she turned to look back over her shoulder in the direction she had come.
There was no signature following after her, but that didn’t mean Wolframite wasn’t there. He was an experienced hunter and tracker and with his wolf-like senses, Laven knew that he could find her easily. It wasn’t like she tried any evasive tactics to hide her trail, all she did was make it more difficult for him to follow if he went after her in a straight line.
Bushes and branches blocking her way were no obstacle while she was in her water form, physical objects simply passed through her and she remained unphased by it. So far the only thing she knew that still hurt was the venom that Wolframite coated his claws with.
He knew… All this time she had been searching for an answer on how to get her old life back and he had the answer all along.
His pride. His promise…
Lavendulan looked down at her bleeding hands. “Heh… Just another scent for him to follow.” Not that it mattered, she would run forever if she had to. But he was a predator, then again… so was she. Their youma sides made them that way.
If push came to shove, she’d fight him. Teeth and claws, she’d rip him apart… at least she’d want to. This went beyond a mild agitation but in her heart, she knew that he likely wouldn’t fight back. Laven saw the guilt-stricken look on his face when she stepped away from him and she knew herself well enough that even if she managed to take a swipe at him she would ultimately end up falling apart instead.
“a*****e…” She swiped away at her tears with the back of her hand.
When Laven opened her eyes again, a large shadow passed overhead. With her blurred vision she thought it was simply a plane flying by but when she looked up there was nothing in the sky save for the thick grey clouds that mostly blocked the sun anyway. “This is stupid, I’m being paranoid.” There was no way Wolframite had caught up to her already. Even if he had, there was no way he’d stick to the trees to track her down. Hell, she was pretty sure he couldn’t effectively climb them with his paws being as large as they were.
The moment she let her guard down and allowed herself a moment to rest and catch her breath was the moment she was most vulnerable. White puffs of air lingered in the air in front of her as she exhaled slowly. Laven watched it, almost in a hypnotic daze until it shifted abruptly by a sharp gust of wind that didn’t even move the branch or bushes near her.
A loud screech pierced the otherwise quietness and before Laven could process what was happening, a large feathered creature slammed into her backside shoving her into the snow. Sharp claw like talons curled around one thigh while the other dug into her hip.
Muffled by the snow, Laven let out a scream from the sharp pain that lanced through her side. Not that it mattered, it wasn’t like there was anyone around close enough to hear her, that was the reason they chose this place to begin with. Far enough away that they wouldn’t be bothered and didn’t have to hide their signatures either.
The scales on her back were not enough to protect her from all directions and she could feel that a few had been broken when she was tackled from behind. In a desperate attempt to get away, she swiped her arm backwards and felt her claws connect with the beasts leg. It let out another ear piercing screech and tightentened its talons around her punishingly before expanding its wings and lifting them both into the sky.
