Quote:
Someone is always celebrating something in Destiny City and that means that fireworks are incredibly common. One night, a series of beautiful, shimmering lights illuminate the sky. It’s a gorgeous display, more so than usual. The air is clear and the lights glisten--and keep glistening. Even after the fireworks end, anyone who watched them will see lights as if reflected through crystals. The display makes everything seem more charming and beautiful. While some may find the experience disorienting or distracting, it’s not uncomfortable or unpleasant. It has the strange effect of making everything seem more appealing--even things that might otherwise be distasteful, painful, or unattractive. Mood may be improved, but effects fade after an hour or two.

Bryia had left Selene’s house and now had to return to her aunt's house. Which she had no doubt there would be a lecture on being out too late while being alone. Not that she feared being out alone at night anymore, she was wearing built-in “boy protection.” One look at the plastic-backed undergarment and she knew it would send any guy running in confusion and disgust.

As she was walking she noticed more people outside than she would have expected. At least until the fireworks started, then it all made sense. Though she had spent some time at Selene’s she hadn’t fully rested and even now she knew she would have to rest soon. She hoped she'd pass a bus stop or maybe a bench sooner or later.

There were only a few days remaining before both she and Wolframite would be running away for a week on their cabin trip. During that time she assumed that their duties as Negaverse Officers would be put on hold so the two of them could simply relax and enjoy each other’s company. This meant that her quota had to be met before it was time to leave.

To a degree, it kind of felt like she was back in college again. Waiting until the last minute to finish a project before it was time to turn it in. Usually, her assignments were done well ahead of schedule but circumstances surrounding the Negaverse and her inability to teleport out of the Dark Kingdom on her own kind of made things a bit difficult.

Fortunately, she had managed to run into General eating in the cafeteria and, on his way out, asked for a taxi to Destiny City. She’d have to find her own way back of course but by then she hoped that Wolframite would be free.

Snow blanketed the sidewalk and streets but oddly enough the temperature outside was more like Spring. Not that she minded, of course. But it was definitely strange.

For the better part of the last hour, Lavendulan had been shifting between glamoured form and her natural half-youma state. Blending into a crowd until she could find a safe place to hide so she could siphon off a bit of energy from someone while their backs were turned.

In time her quota had almost been met, just one more and then she could call someone, perhaps Tinaksite, to take her home.

Marissa turned a corner and was nearly blinded by a bright burst of light that illuminated the sky overhead. The thundering boom echoed through the streets nearly causing her glamour to shimmer from the loss of concentration. “Holy hell…” She turned, and in doing so spotted her final target of the evening.

A block ahead of her was a young girl walking home alone with nothing more than a side bag at her disposal. It would be easy to just walk beside her as if they were both going in the same direction and to simply drop glamour at a stoplight and take the last bit of energy needed to finish off the day.

At least… that was the plan as she quickened her pace until there were only a few feet between them.

All Bryia could think about was how she shouldn’t have drank all that water. The whole walk back was becoming harder as she began to waddle more and more as her protection continued to expand between her legs. She could only imagine in her mind what she looked like at the moment, looking like a toddler waddling around without a care in the world.

As if that wasn’t bad enough she could hear the footsteps of someone behind her, it was easy to hear in the snow. She got a sly smile on her face, she didn’t like to admit it but she always wished she had a skirt on, just so she could see the look of revulsion on a guys face when he learned what she was wearing under it.

Her curiosity got the better of her, she turned her head to the side making it appear like she was looking at the lights on a house. This gave her a good enough view of the young women behind her. She was almost disappointed, not that it mattered because she wasn’t in a skirt at the moment. However, now she didn’t really want to give this girl a show and with her legs already wanting her to stop she saw a bench for a bus stop and used that as her chance to let the young women pass.

Bryia stopped, turning herself to face away from the street and lean against the back of the bench. This way she could see the women pass her. She let out a little sigh as she did this, indicating that she wasn’t going to be moving at the moment and the women could simply pass her by.

Marissa smiled and nodded as she passed by the young girl. A wordless greeting, both a hello, and goodbye all within the same gesture.

She continued on and rounded the corner at the next intersection. At a quick glance, it appeared to be an empty street which allowed her the brief opportunity to drop her glamour and jump to the rooftop of the two-story hardware store.

Simply walking back would alert the girl to her approach so she went with plan B.

Shifting into her water form Lavendulan’s body became semi-translucent as she lept from the roof over near the bus stop where her target was resting her feet waiting for the next bus to arrive. Thankful that physical objects simply moved through her, the half-youma approached from the shadows and reached out with a claw-tipped hand to siphon some energy, just enough to leave the girl a bit tired but not enough that she’d pass out here in the snow and freeze to death if the temperature were to suddenly drop.

As much as she wanted to rest a bit longer Bryia knew every moment she was out was more nagging she would have to listen too. She quickly turned to grab her bag but as she did something caught her attention. A water-like arm thing was reaching out for her. From beyond the outstretched appendage, she could see what looked like a larger mass or body. Without thought or hesitation, she swung her bag at the water blobs head, or what she thought was its head. However, the bag passed right through.

It was bad enough the bag did nothing to this creature, worse yet it wasn’t done. The weight of her bag kept going, spinning her around and throwing her off balance until she fell backward through the creature itself. She rolled on the ground once or twice before she stopped. She wasn’t sure if it was from the creature, the snow or both but a very cold... something ran down her back and found it’s resting place in the padded garment.

To make matters worse the ice-cold feeling spread to the already wet garment she had on and suddenly she was tightly taped in a diaper that felt like it was made of ice, encasing her most sensitive area.

She found herself flopping around like a fish. “OH NO! COLD COLD COLD!” Pushing her hand to her crotch only made it worse and she still had this water creature in front of her. With one hand he attempted to pull her undergarment away from her skin and with the other she started making one-handed snowballs and throwing them at her would-be attacker.

Lavendulan recoiled backward as the bag passed through her. A look of shock and surprise was lost in the shadows that cloaked her and the objects behind her that made the half-youma harder to see.

While in this form she was quicker than a person riding downhill on a bicycle and within a fraction of a second, Lavendulan knelt beside the young disoriented woman. She may look like a monster but that didn’t mean she enjoyed hurting other people.

Her form then shifted to a more solid-state; beautiful sky blue dragon-like scales adorned her cheeks and shoulders, small v-shaped plates perfectly place to provide a natural armor. Atop her head were two sets of smooth horns and her eyes, like the weather, looked cold but held a bit of warmth in them.

A clawed hand cupped the girl’s elbow as Lavendulan wordlessly tried to help her sit upright all the while trying to siphon a bit more energy to dampen her targets will to fight.

She didn’t know what in the blue hell this...thing was but she wanted no part of it. She felt a hand or something cup under her elbow, it was as if the creature was trying to help her up. Though the more she tried she seemed to feel even more and more worn out. With the little strength she had left she shoved a whole handful of snow into the face of… whatever it was. She hoped that would at least give her time to get to her feet.

As she looked at the creature it wasn’t in a watery like state anymore. It looked like… Well a lot of things. “What the hell are you? A furry? Maybe scaly like a fish?” She quipped as she attempted to stand again. “I think I’ll just call you Nemo,” she said between labored breathing. “Because I’m FINDING you are to look at!” Was making the strange creature that may be trying to eat her angry a good idea? Probably not, but it couldn’t get any worse she thought. Then her tummy started to rumble and she knew she was wrong.

Suddenly that cinnamon roll didn’t seem like such a good idea. She hadn’t had any pure sugar in months let alone a pastry. Even with her trying to stop it, she knew this was a battle she would never win and as it had been at Selena house the seat of her started to sag as it filled.

Bryia couldn’t believe her luck, or lack thereof. Not wanting to stay, she took a shaky step back, but her foot didn’t grip the ground under the snow and foot slipped and she was sent to the ground, bottom first. A look of revolution, disgust and confusion was plastered on her face.

Laven’s pupils slitted and eyes narrowed as a low growl rumbled in her chest. The audacity of this girl calling her such things was truly insulting to her youma nature.

Like the officers in the cafeteria who never bothered to approach her, let alone learn her name; they too called her similar names such as Fish Bait. They see scales and think she’s some delicate sea creature, when the reality is that she was most definitely a predator of the ocean; a sea serpent type youma.

Irritated by the ignorant girl, she was half tempted to drop her back in the snow when the unmistakable most stomach churning odor hit her senses. Laven’s lips pulled into a smirk. “Call me what you want Ms. Lumberjack…” She bit out with an added snarl. “At least I’m not the one that just dropped a log in my pants.”

Rather than help her up, the half youma grip around the young pale-haired woman’s wrist tightened as she instead drained more than she intended to, her walk home was going to be slow and miserable. At least that was the retribution she so desperately wanted for all the times she’s had to put up with the name.

But then, after a moment, she recoiled back. Releasing the girl Laven stood and took several steps away. This isn’t me… This was the youma side taking over, punishing someone for simply being scared.

The creature grabbed her wrist with such strength it hurt. Using her other hand Bryia attempted to remove the creatures claw, but every moment that passed she seemed weaker and even more tired then she was before. “Whash….oing…” Bryia’s words were slurred, even talking seemed to tired her out. Her slurred speech even caused some drool to fall out of her mouth and down her chin.

As the creature released its grasp Bryia fell onto her back in the snow. The fireworks had long stopped but the sky was filled with lights, almost as if they were reflecting through crystals. As she lay there she felt herself calming, it wasn’t so bad. The feeling of what she was sitting in, the drool on her face, even the noxious smell that had surrounded her no longer seemed to bother her. She didn’t have the strength to stand at the moment, she looked at the creature with the drool still running down her chin. Why did it stop? Is it going to eat me now? She thought. She wanted more than anything to say something, but her effort to speak was again met with the same slurred speech no one could understand.

She could feel tears well in her eyes, not because she was afraid to die but because of how pathetic she’d become. Here she was at the end, the end of her life. Laying on the ground in a messy diaper unable to walk, talk or even sit up. Even after everything she had worked for, everything she fought for she hadn’t changed a thing. That is what truly broke her heart.

A pang of guilt struck her like a lance as Laven watched as the girl began to cry. Any time she had been caught before, she had simply ran in the opposite direction. But something had urged her to stay and try to help the girl up only to get verbally smacked in the face.

At what point since her awakening had she actually devolved into the monster the young woman had claimed her to be? This wasn’t who she was, as Marissa she did not enjoy in others suffering, but that girl had died almost a year ago. While a glimmer of that human side remained a constant light in the darkness that was the half youma she became. Lavendulan worried that she would lose herself completely if she continued down this path.

She was weak willed in the eyes of her fellow officers but that was the side of her that remained most human.

“Go home…” she said quietly before turning towards the shadows and disappearing completely. The half-youma leapt back to the rooftop and watched below, waiting for the girl to get up worrying that she had taken too much energy and that she had actually caused harm to the sobbing girl.

With a frustrated sigh directed at her own weaknesses, she jumped back down on the opposite alleyway and donned her glamour once again. “Wolframite will throttle me if he finds out.” Not really, but the spar that would come of it would not be fun for her in the least.

Marissa jogged around the corner over to the girl. “Oh my god!” She knelt beside the girl to help her up. “I heard you scream. Are you ok?”

The creature had suddenly seemed startled by something, she thought it had spoken to her but she hadn’t been able to make out the words. Almost as soon as the creature drifted into the shadows she heard someone call out to her as she was laying there in the snow. While all of these thoughts should have sent her mind into confusion and panic but her mind wasn’t truly in the here and now.

She was back in the hospital bed again. Laying one her back unable to move, sitting in a disposable garment filled by her own doing and unable to stop it. Months of struggle, fighting and pain and here she was again. Did anything she accomplished matter? It was like karma herself was laughing at her, just b***h slapping her in the face and laughing about it. That’s what her life was now a joke, a living joke for everyone to see. A giant overgrown baby that would never be anything more than that.

Maybe she should just lay here, say nothing and the women would call 911. She could just live like this forever, the doctors wouldn’t find anything wrong with her. She could live out the life karma clearly wanted for her. A life spent in some phyciatric ward as a drooling baby waiting to be changed, ya she could do that.

Then the creatures words rang in her ears, At least I’m not the one that just dropped a log in my pants.

Her eyes shot open. Maybe it was her fate to be there one day, but that day was not today. She didn’t know how long she'd been laying there but see saw the women to her side, it took all she had but she was able to force out one word, “...fine.” She leaned away from the women and propped herself up onto all fours, facing away from her. As if karma needed to give her one last reminder as she felt and heard herself let loose one last monstrous fart. She felt bad she had most likely just crop dusted the poor women who had scared away the creature but what was left of her pride wouldn’t let her stop now. With the speed of a sloth she made her way to her feet, grabbing her bag and slowly began to waddle the rest of the way to her aunt's house.

Marissa watched the girl as she retreated down the street. The cold shoulder was undoubtedly well deserved in this case, even if the young woman knew that she was the one who attacked her or not.

Never had she made a mistake quite like that, perhaps the firework had disoriented her just enough to lose sight of reason and allow the youme nature to come out and play why her more human side stood there dazzled by the pretty lights.

Either way, Marissa felt regret for what she had done, to make someone actually s**t themselves was honestly a testament as to how ugly people actually perceived her to be. Maybe being hidden away in the Dark Kingdom was better for everyone’s sakes because next time she might not be so lucky in that her next target may have a taser or gun, then she would really be in trouble.

For now though, she had what she needed and it was time to go back to the Barracks where Wolframite likely waited so they could pack their final belongings for their trip.
