Prompt
Someone is always celebrating something in Destiny City and that means that fireworks are incredibly common. One night, a series of beautiful, shimmering lights illuminate the sky. It’s a gorgeous display, more so than usual. The air is clear and the lights glisten--and keep glistening. Even after the fireworks end, anyone who watched them will see lights as if reflected through crystals. The display makes everything seem more charming and beautiful. While some may find the experience disorienting or distracting, it’s not uncomfortable or unpleasant. It has the strange effect of making everything seem more appealing--even things that might otherwise be distasteful, painful, or unattractive. Mood may be improved, but effects fade after an hour or two.

Nataniel sighed softly. This party was nowhere he wanted to be at the moment, yet here he was, poking at a frozen strawberry daiquiri with a straw and glowering mutely into a throng of well-dressed and obnoxious people. By some unfortunate stroke of luck, Nat’s usual barmates Noah and Elijah had been invited to a New Year’s Eve party in some glammed-up warehouse near the bay. The venue was a bit odd, but it was spacious, with the party occupying the entire open area of the fifth story, with access to the roof right above them and four stories of parking right below. Given the layout, Nat had to assume this was all this building was made for, despite the strange locale.

If it were just him, there’s no way he could’ve been convinced to leave his house- Well, no. That was inaccurate. He would’ve had a different goal in mind, certainly, as he usually did when Noah and Elijah invited him into their escapades, and he absolutely would not have brought December.

He’d intended to spend the night just the two of them… Maybe they’d make dinner together and watch whatever fireworks they could see from his patio, but no.

His stupid friends had had the gall to show up at his door, and it was all downhill from there. The pair was boisterous and eager and insistent, some of Nat’s least favorite things, and when they caught sight of December, it took them less than a second to hone in on that weakness and convince the younger man to convince Nat that they should all go. It would be fun, they promised.

What vindictive little demons.

So Nataniel went, dressed in form-hugging light grey trousers and a dark button-up shirt that had just the slightest tinge of violet to it, covered by a sleek grey vest and topped with a purple and black woven scarf around his neck. It was just that there wasn’t any reason for him to dress up and go out, anymore. At one point he’d had to. He had needs. But with December practically living with him there were significantly less needs that couldn’t be fulfilled from the comfort of his own home. Still a few, of course, but not so many that he needed to go out every weekend, as he had previously.

Noah and Elijah teased that they missed him and couldn’t believe they’d not been introduced to December, yet, after three of them had spent practically all of their weekends together for the past two years, and wasn’t Nat such a callous p***k for ditching them so easily?

So he’d made a quick escape to the bar for a drink, leaving the two of them to mingle among other partygoers. With daiquiri in hand, Nataniel guided December toward a back wall, away from most of the chaos and shook his head. “I forgot to ask if you wanted something,” he murmured. Even if his companion was too young to drink, Nat could always order whatever December wanted and pass it off to him. It wasn’t like there would be any carding going on after the drink was purchased. “Are you going to be alright while we’re here?” He prompted quietly.

“It’s for work, Lan,” Gryphon had assured. “Can’t just not go to work, mate. S’like you sometimes forget what happens to people in the business who- uh- are a ‘liability.’” But no matter the argument and no matter how Gryph had laughed it off or tried to reason or promised that it would only be a couple hours, Landry had not been pleased. The blond man had had arguments of his own too, of course, but being that they were both stubborn and relentless in that stubbornness, it hadn’t seemed like there was any way for them to both leave satisfied.

So instead, they’d both left miffed and entirely unsatisfied.

Gryphon had some pride, though. He was an adult who could, and should, take care of himself. He didn’t want to accept Landry’s help in that regard, no matter how the younger man assured him that he would just ‘buy all of Gryphon’s supply and be done with it.’ It didn’t sit right with him. Though, admittedly, he supposed his job didn’t really ‘sit right’ with Landry, either.

Despite the dispute, Gryphon had taken care to kiss Landry on the lips, cup his pretty face and promise him they would watch fireworks together and spend the first day of the new year together when he got back.

It would only be a couple hours.

It was fine.

So he’d wound up at some fancy party near the bay. Gryphon was way too lowly to know what contacts Emilio had that would let someone like Gryphon in a place like this, but he didn’t figure it was worth complaining about. For the most part. His boss had picked out a pinstripe suit for him to wear with a weird fancy buckle across the waistline and commanded that he ‘do something with his hair,’ so Gryph had bunned it up and shoved it into a fedora. The whole bit made him feel completely ridiculous.

But hey, at least there were little cocktail prawns here, and he didn’t really have to do much besides put on a happy face, hold a rum and coke in one hand, mingle, and wait until whoever was here for the business showed up. And once that was done, he could go home, and maybe Landry would relax a little and not be too terribly grouchy with him.

December had been completely and utterly content to sit at home and watch the fireworks from the TV, cuddled up by Nataniel's side. It was warm and safe and they didn't have to worry about anything weird going on with Destiny City from within the safety of their apartment, so why would he want to leave?

Perhaps the reason the thought never crossed his mind was because he never was given the opportunity to go out and party like that! He knew they existed, and that they could be fun and excited and new people, new friends could be made doing that, but where would they even be at? Where would someone like him even find an invite to one?

The question was answered by two strangers barging in one day and in a whirlwind of activity, took him and Nataniel both out on the town! Or specifically to some super swanky party, the likes of which December had never seen!

So now here he was, eyes aglow and in awe of everything around him. He wasn't sure at all what he was dressed in, since that sort of thing he left up to the strict eye of Nataniel, but he DID know that he was loving every moment of it!

The lights, the music, the SNACKS! How fancy could a place be if they had people in butler outfits coming through the party every now and then! ... He would have worried that someone like him didn't exactly belong here, if it weren't for the fact that Nataniel had a firm hold on his waist and kept him close. That slight touch was more than enough to keep him completely content.

"It's okay! I'm not really thirsty or anything, but I'd like a sip of yours." When asked if he was alright, his gaze traveled to the dance floor, which was bouncing already. "I'm going to be just fine, I promise! It looks like alot of fun, so thank you for coming with me!"

His thanks was accompanied by a quick peck on the cheek, not wanting to kep his eyes off the dance floor for too long. "Do you think maybe you'd want to dance sometime soon?"

"I don't care. Clearly work is more important than me." Landry honestly could not understand why Gryphon wanted so desperately to go out this evening to work of all things! It was not as if he didn't work nearly every other night of the year!

No amount of kisses or attempts to defuse the situation would work, he was far to irritated and disappointed, of all things, to let it go. Gryphon's kiss and promises were only met with Landry slamming the door behind him and making sure to lock all of the locks when he left. There was no way in hell that man he so dearly loved would get back in tonight.

But... The man also had a key to his apartment. There wasn't nearly enough time to go and replace all the locks on the doors... So he would have to settled on just not being home when Gryphon returned.

And out of the biggest amount of spite he could muster, he made sure he looked even more incredible today. Hair styled, The Best Versace clothing he had, and obviously a few statement pieces graced his body, and he absolutely looked like what he was worth. More than anyone could afford.

While he absolutely loathed parties, there was one he was invited to yearly, near the docks and only those with the invite could get into the expensive lounge up near the top. Perhaps Lori would attend such gatherings every now and then, but him? Never.

Until tonight, where he was escorted straight through the waiting line, through the VIP alway, and was cozied up in a booth to look over the party. A glass of wine dangled from his finger tips as he looked out into the crowd... And part of him swore he saw Gryph meandering somewhere around here.

Surely it couldn't be him, not in a place like this. He only really ever hung out in the squallor or in places where only the most 'hard strung' people hung out.

... Then again, he did sell drugs to Lori.

Even if it was Gryphon, there was no way in hell Landry was about to leave his table and approach him. Ignoring that shape he saw in the distance, he DID notice someone else.

Someone familiar, a coworker of sorts. And when he and Nataniel made eye contact, Landry raised his glass just a little, an invite for him and that companion of his to perhaps wander a little closer. Some company would certainly make this venture out much more bearable.

"It is not very strong," Nataniel promised as he offered the daiquiri for December to take. Which was, admittedly, a huge shame. He would've preferred to be completely cognizant for as little of these affairs as possible. His dark eyes wandered back to the bar. Perhaps next time he'd make sure there was an extra shot of Everclear in it for him. That should mess him up real quick, and he was sure he'd have a much more enjoyable time in that event.

He barely missed a moment between December's question and a reply slipping off his tongue. "Soon?" He parroted. "No, I very much doubt it." Nataniel was nowhere near drunk enough for that, and at the rate of these drinks, probably wouldn't be in the time frame December considered 'soon.'

"You may go, though," he offered, letting his dark gaze wander from the boy before him and out to the gyrating crowd. "I expect you would have little trouble finding a dance partner. Though perhaps more trouble in finding one who would only be interested in dancing." He shifted away, and his hands and fingers curled nearer into him in that way that suggested disinterest and a very mild disgust.

He wasn't drunk enough for any of this.

Nataniel looked away, and as he did, he caught sight of dark lights flashing off of very pale blond hair. He hadn't expected to know anyone besides Noah and Elijah here, but he was fairly certain that was Landry sitting in a booth over there, by himself. He decided to head that way. "I will be sitting over here, whatever you chose," he informed December as he strode over to Landry to accept his very gracious nonverbal invitation to join him.

"I had expected you were not the type to come to anything social," Nataniel commented as he approached.
