The weather report called for snow, and a lot of it! Overnight, a foot of snow has covered Destiny City in a beautiful blanket of white, and schools and most businesses are closed! When you venture outside however, the air feels almost temperate, and picking up the snow is a lot like picking up some sun warmed sand at the beach. What might have caused this? Is it global warming playing some sort of trick, or just the imps that seem to linger in the city? The strangely warm snow day lasts for only a day though, by the next day, the air is bitterly cold again, and all of that wonderful snow is somehow gone without a trace!

"I do not enjoy this," Rakovanite muttered as he trudged through the dense 'snow' (if it could be called any such thing) that lay in a heavy sheet over the sidewalk along his usual patrol route. Perhaps the futility of a patrol should have been obvious in that the snow hadn't been tamped down by passerby during the afternoon. And why should it have been? This was a shopping district, but most businesses were closed... No one would have reason to come out here. Not in the morning, not during the day, not a dusk, as it was now.

Yet it wasn't even cold, further increasing Rakovanite's irritability. What was this trickery? How had it happened? For what purpose? Why, why, why. And no answers to go around. His upset was more from lack of understanding than it was from the pointlessness of a patrol along an empty street.

Because for all that it was empty, and that would not serve Rakovanite at all in meeting his quota, he was not alone. An oddity when he patrolled.

Typically, Rakovanite made his rounds in the early morning, between 3 and 4 AM, when very few people would be out, but he could catch a sparse sprinkling just leaving the bar or those early risers headed to work or college students scurrying out to get a quick snack. There weren't enough people out that he'd be noticed, but enough to get his job done. He preferred it that way.

December, however, as far as Rakovanite understood it, did not particularly appreciate mornings. Fettelite was no different. Rakovanite usually left him to sleep in the mornings, while Fettelite seemed to prefer tending to his duties after Rakovanite had already gone to bed. They were far from the same schedule, but the oddity of the weather and temperature had managed to draw both of them out just as the sun was setting.

He glanced to Fettelite. "Perhaps we would be better off testing our luck where you patrol... But it still feels so early. And the weather is... nice, aside from the confusion. There might be significantly more people in areas like parks, where they can-" he waved his fingers enticingly as if encouraging the thought along. "-play and whatnot. Too many more people, maybe..."

It was a strange day with many unusual variables to try and calculate.

On any other standard snowy day, Fettelite would have whole-heartedly agreed with Rakovanite. He hated the cold and would rather take the extra beating from missing his quota than suffer frozen toes and frostbite! Last year was the same, taking the extra sessions with his General in exchange of the warmth of the Negaverse...

But now he had Rakovanite with him, someone he'd brave the coldest, most painful winters for.

Buuuuut super luckily for him, tonight was double sweet for him. For one, he wasn't alone. Yes, there were complaints, but they were still together, trudging through the snow and going on their hunt together. A few months ago, Fettel wouldn't have dreamed this was possible... But that sweetness in his mind lasted for a moment, before he was distracted by such warm snow hitting his face.

That was number two. The snow was so pleasant. He pulled off his glove while following behind his friend and dipped his hand into the snow. The temperatures were so close and so warm between them that the snow didn't even melt under his touch. It melded so wonderfully between his fingers, forming the most perfect snowball ever! And no frozen fingers at all!

"It's not so bad... Atleast it feels nice outside, right?" He was tempted to slip off his coat and flop over face down, to see if it all felt as warm as he thought it did. The scolding from Rakovanite would be pretty rough though... For now he started making more and more of those perfectly round little balls and piled them up one after the other in the crook of his arm. When he was certain no one was looking, specifically not Rako, he picked one up and took a bite.

Weird, but not sickening.

"We could, you know, take the night off and play ourselves, if you want! It's not every day it's so nice out and snow doesn't melt!" As a half-thoughted attempt to tempt his partner to enjoy himself, he tossed one of the many snowballs in his arms lightly at Rako's shoulder and grinned as it hit. "Not even cold, right?"

“No,” Rakovanite groused, tugging at the button near his collar to draw it closer to his face. “The fact that it remains temperate is the worst offense,” he hissed softly at Fettelite’s comment. ‘Cold’ would’ve at least made sense. It was supposed to be cold. It should have been cold. But what they got instead was basic nonsense, and Rakovanite did not enjoy it. He would’ve preferred it be suitably frigid to match the scenery.

Being in front of all the stores in the shopping closed from the snowstorm meant that there was little to do. There was just no point in being here. If they were in a residential area or near the park, maybe children would be out exploring the anomaly.

Admittedly, Rakovanite didn’t even want to be around children long enough to drain them, no matter how easy a twelve-year-old target would be.

“We should just go home,” he said with a sigh as he watched the sidewalk ahead, looking for any sighs of life. There seemed to be none, besides the stray bird hopping along the top of the snow. “There is no point in-“ Something hit his shoulder, and Rakovanite’s gaze whipped around to pin to the younger man behind him. He remained silent for several seconds, surveying the situation before him, before he hissed, “What are you doing?”

Fettelite just... Well, he was stunned by the hiss he was on the receiving end of this time.

A fear hit him, making his legs lock up and his eyes go wide. And he trembled, immediately thinking the worse was coming.

But unlike before, when he would collapse down and start begging and pleading to not be hurt, the fear passed right on by, and after the initial moment of stiffness, he began to move again.

And that movement meant another snow ball hitting Rakovanite straight in the chest.

And then another. And another. Over and over again he hurled them, before his arms were empty and he bolted away, a nervous laugh escaping his lips.

He thought for sure after the first one that Fettelite would apologize for his brazenness, that he would realize quickly that flinging snow at each other was not something Rakovanite was distinctly interested in. For a moment, it looked like that would be the case, as the other man stilled and his eyes went wide.

Then, it wasn't.

There came another shot fired, and Rakovanite went still himself, though more in confusion than anything else. The snowballs weren't very hard, but considering the boon to their strength they received while powered, it wasn't a particularly light hit, either. After the second snowball hit him in the chest, and Rakovanite watched the still-tense posture of his comrade, he began to realize that things wouldn't stop here.

He ducked out of the way of the third and dived away from a fourth before a fifth snowball clipped him in the shoulder, and he frowned. Now out of weapons, Fettelite must have seen the error of his ways, for he fled, and Rakovanite scowled.

"Where are you going," he bit out, toned laced with irritation as he gave chase himself. It wasn't much of a fair fight. The younger man could outspeed him any day of the week after his upgrade, so Rakovanite dipped as he ran, scooping up a handful of snow himself, and chucking it in Fettelite's direction. "Come back and accept your fate."

That nervous laughter quickly became more genuine, and threw a quick glance over his shoulder.

Oh boy, he was coming. And fast too! If it weren't for his upgrade, Fettelite would have been quickly tackled into the snow! But he was able to keep avoiding getting caught, grinning ear to ear when a snowball whizzed by his ear.

"I regret nothing! You know my name! I'm meant for this sorta thing!" To emphasis this silly, and perhaps dangerously taunting fact, Fettelite decided to cheat. He teleported behind Rakovanite, then hurled another handful of snow at him from behind.

Big mistake.

The Captain hadn't exactly been practicing his teleportation skills, and the single movement left him pretty darned exhausted.

Unlike his young and silly and childish partner, Rakovanite did work on honing his abilities at least a few times a week. He'd always worked out before starting his day even as a civilian, so it had been no huge inconvenience to switch to a focus in more combat-focused maneuvers and tactics during some mornings. And he of course knew what agents of Fettelite's rank were supposed to be capable of.

Rakovanite was not ill-prepared, even when dealing with someone as soft and delicate as his Fettelite could be.

The younger man disappeared from his view, and Rakovanite instinctively whipped around, the sound of his partner's boots crunching on snow an easy indicator to his location. Tiny flecks of Fettelite's messy handful of snow spattered Rakovanite's face as he ducked beneath the worst of the attack. He surged forward, snatching the younger man's collar in one hand and yanking him off his feet before dipping and slamming him into the snow.

They were close, with Rakovanite crouched over him, hovering, but not touching anywhere besides where his hand gripped at Fettelite's uniform. He leaned in, dark gaze flitting down the younger man's length, watching his posture for further signs of struggle.

"What. Are you doing," Rakovanite demanded softly.

While the slam wasn’t hard, it caught Fettelite by surprise, resulting in a soft oof! escaping his lips.

But then came a laugh, and he squirmed around under Rakovanite’s grasp in the weirdly warm snow.

“Playing! I’m playing, Rakovanite! I thought we could have some fun in the snow!” He could feel the snow melt around his body, despite it’s warm temperature, making it feel more like sitting in wet grass on a summer morning than something that was supposed to be frozen. But he didn’t focus on that, instead focused on the man above him, gazing into his eyes with a teasing smile.

“I wanted to see if I could make you laugh and get competitive. I think it worked, huh? Sooooo... Since you win against a big, bad Captain, you can claim a prize! What would you like? Oh but... Hahah! If you want the prize, you'll have to catch me!" It was then that Fettelite abused his Negaverse powers once again, and... Actually teleported away, far out of reach, and ran.
