Wineberry sighed forlornly. Winter had come, bringing cold winds and touches of snow with it. She didn't hate winter, per say, but all the berries were now gone and with nothing left to cushion her emotions, Winberry was faced with feelings. And that she did hate. It didn't help that Red and Black, her newest favorite companions had promptly told her that she would be on her own for the season. As they had put it, it was time to sleep. The two bears had snuggled together in their huge den and then they were out. No waking them. Wineberry had tried. Thankfully the den was large enough for her to snuggle in too after sunset to enjoy the warmth...but she was reluctant to venture too far. What if she couldn't remember her way back come spring? No it was much better to take it day to day, stick close and find what game came close enough for her to devour.

It hadn't been much of a problem, until today that is.

The woods were oftly silent. The birds had quieted and the small mammals had disappeared. Something was a foot.
