He had taken to December spending more time with him at his apartment. Though it hadn't been what he'd expected after the younger man brought him home that night during the festival, and then again after the plant invasion and subsequent dispensing of information, Nataniel wasn't opposed to the companionship. He didn't mind being alone and was accustomed to it more than not, but he did enjoy a certain level of physical intimacy that often required, well, someone else.
December being here, and wanting to be here was... convenient. Nataniel appreciated the accessibility, the consistency. It pleased him to have someone around that would cater to his schedule.
For the most part.
There were still complications with December's 'job,' which tended to be unpredictable in more ways than one, and typically ended in unpleasantness that Nataniel was poorly equipped to handle in any regard. December didn't often bring it up, and Nat did his best to keep his curiosity and accompanying commentary to only what he deemed as being beneficial to know or say. They hardly needed to dwell on it during the day, when the sun was out and Negaverse duties were minimal.
And though Nataniel didn't believe himself to be a particularly lazy man, it felt... nice... to be in his bed with December at three in the afternoon. He wouldn't say he was doing nothing at least. He lay on his stomach, settled between the other man's legs, with one arm tucked loosely around December's hips, and a textbook for the upcoming semester propped atop the younger's abdomen, using his free hand to brace his chin and peer down at the pages.
He didn't know how comfortable December was in all this, but that was hardly his concern.
With a soft hum, he reached to tap his phone screen, bringing it to life in a flash of brightness, so he could check the time. "We should probably start getting ready, if we want to make the movie."

Somehow, December found himself in quite the strange situation, for him anyway.
Here he was, lying in a bed comfortably, at three in the afternoon. He had been dozing on and off for the better part of... Well, several hours, as content as a cat to lay in the warm sunlight that came in through the window, and the feeling of a delightfully firm pressure against his skin just encouraged him further to simply not move at all.
While this had become his normal over time, the whole thing, the whole concept of being this happy was still very, very strange.
Yes, there was still his 'night job', and the constant prodding anxiety that came from worrying about getting hurt enough that maybe one day he wouldn't be able to make it home, but it wasn't enough to keep him up at night anymore. Nataniel had so naturally begun to fill in those holes in his heart he had, and more often than night, December's wandering thoughts would return to the man whenever given the chance.
Maybe he had become a pet at some point. Content to be held and petted when Nataniel wanted, and nicely fed, cleaned, and cared for... Was that what Natanial though of him? As a pet?
For the briefest of moments, December's sleepy mind began to worry about that thought, then decided he didn't care. Happiness was happiness, regardless of what it might look like to others. He never did care much for the opinions of strangers anyway. The only opinions that mattered were the ones he would have to deal with every day.
And today it was clear that only the man on top of him had opinions that mattered.
"Okay..." His voice came out softly, having kept fairly quiet during their time together. Rather than moving out of the way, he reached down to tangle his hand in Nataniel's hair, giving the gentlest of massages to the man's scalp. "But... You'll have to move first. Do you really want to?"

Such deception. December's fingers laced into his hair, and Nat shut his eyes, chin dipping as he pressed to the younger man's palm. Such blatant manipulation said so lightly as if December didn't even realize the power of that touch and how easily Nat was prepared to succumb to it. He loved this closeness, wanted it constantly... Always wanting. Nataniel's dark eyes flicked open, pinning to the younger man's.
He severely doubted December wasn't aware of this, though. The younger man was stupid, Nat had always believed that much, but he was not incapable of learning, and Nataniel was not secretive of what pleased him.
Two fingers knocked the book from December's abdomen, and Nataniel lifted himself with his arms, drawing up the length of December's torso to touch his lips to the other's chin. "Gaddaar," he hissed softly, the word heavy and thick as it rolled off his tongue, nearly a purr. "Traitor." He leaned in, dipping to pepper kisses across his nose and cheeks. He only wanted to leave at all to please December's more social tendencies, to make sure he didn't feel bored or trapped in the house.
He was trying to be nice.
But he could just as easily be selfish.

It was true. December was a fast learner, and a decent observer when it came to what made people happy. And he was also far too willing to give into other people's desires when he knew what they wanted. Manipulation? Of course not, but a simple, almost desperate need to find a reason to keep someone he cared for close, and Nat seemed very much into the idea of being greed with his company.
While he couldn't say he fully expected Nat to move, he also couldn't say he wasn't surprised when the other moved to bring their faces together.
... How could a man's voice be so wonderfully beautiful and almost threatening at the same time?
And how could December not fall into a fit of giggles at every kiss that was placed across his freckled face?
"H-Hey... I'm not a traitor..." he whined softly, his hand never once leaving Nataniel's hair. In fact, the other hand joined it, twirling and twisting into those pretty green locks that rained down above him. "I just.... If I leave here, I have to share you with the world, and I don't know if I'm ready to do that just yet..."

"You are," Nataniel asserted in a low rumble, leaning to rest his weight lengthwise along December's frame, laying his head on the younger man's chest.
The concept of sharing his bed, of practically sharing his room for how often December was with him now, was still something Nataniel had to grow accustomed to. It had been a few weeks, and Nat found that he didn't mind the companionship, but it was still so strange to have this boy here now, carding his fingers through Nat's grassy-colored hair while the older man studied... or became too distracted to study.
It was odd. It meant making adjustments to his fine-tuned and meticulous schedule.
Nataniel reached a hand up, using his thumb to trace over the smooth line of December's jawbone and up to his ear, curving around the lobe and down to pet his fingers through snowy hair and fall to his neck, his shoulder. Nat shut his eyes. He didn't mind the adjustments... He could make as many as he needed to in order to remain this content.
But he had made adjustments. This date was an adjustment. Deep red eyes flicked opne and he tipped his head just enough to peer at the other boy's face. "We had plans," he murmured.

”I know but... What movie could be better than this?” Despite having a heavy need to go out and be social sometimes, the draw of Nataniel laying on him, holding him, kissing him, was far more appealing.
Every touch was motivated to make both of them feel good, unlike any time that was spent with his General. How could he not crave it more?
December turned his head to kiss that hand that traveled down his shoulder, giving a small sound of contentment at the touch.
“If you wanna keep the plans, we can but... We can also keep touching at home, get a movie on Netflix or something, and order in.... Same plans, different location, right?”

This was why they'd gone shopping. Nataniel had wanted to buy December new clothes so that he wouldn't be embarrassed to be next to this dumb, hyper, poorly dressed child. He'd put in effort for this, and yes, there would be more opportunities to wear clothing, those weren't frequently in short supply, but he wanted a return for the effort he'd put in. He'd been prepared for something different. He'd planned. He'd anticipated.
They did spend plenty of time at home, and Nat had Netflix on his computer anytime he wanted the noise, or thought December wanted the noise and didn't expect it to bother him personally. He made a low, noncommittal noise in his throat.
Doing the same things they usually did (while Nat wouldn't frequently be opposed to the normalcy) wasn't the 'date' December had seemed so excited for the week prior.
Nat pressed his elbow to the mattress near December's ribs and used it to prop his chin in, so that he was gazing at the wall, and not tucking his face against the other man's chest. "I suppose if that's what you prefer," he murmured. Nat was hardly one for spontaneity, but... Maybe he could think of something else... Something more intimate that wouldn't involve leaving the house.

"I think I prefer kissing you here than kissing you in the dark of a theater." Even with the darkness around them, they could still definitely be caught. Especially given the fact that December did not hide when he felt good. Though there was a little bit of guilt there, since he knew that Nataniel was doing this for him.
"Maybe we could... Go out for a drive on your bike, get some dinner, bring it back home, and just... You know..." Play games? Kiss? Sleep? December did love sleeping. He liked it when his mind was just wandering around without much thought.
"I'm happy, as long as I'm with you."

The sound that slipped from Nataniel's throat was deep and rolling, a dark rumble. He liked the thought of kissing in a dark theater, of December making sounds that anyone could hear and lead them to be discovered. He liked the thrill of it, the excitement, the threat of being caught. His tongue skated between his lips, and he pressed his hips more firmly against the younger man beneath him with a quiet hiss of sound.
"We can stay," he acquiesced quietly. He supposed there would be other opportunities for December to wear any of the garments they'd found while shopping, and food of any variety was just a few clicks away on any of those food service apps, nowadays...
But Nataniel had been prepared for something different that night, and he didn't want to waste the expectation.
He ground his hips against December's as Nat slipped off of him, toward the end of the bed and away. "Will you pick something to eat, then?" He asked as he tossed his phone on top of the sheets. "I will... make other arrangements for the night."

There was no hiding the sheer joy on December's face when Nat gave into him, only further shown by the number of fluttery, brief kisses placed along Nataniel's cheeks.
"If you want me to wear something you can--- Ah..." A dark red spread across his face as that weakness to such movements cut off his words mid sentence. Immediately he wanted to take his legs and wrap them around Nataniel's waist, pulling him closer to feel more of it, but all too soon his friend was gone, pulled away, leaving him to whine at the loss of warmth.
"O-Okay, I will.. Um..." He was still very much distracted and wanted Nat to return to his arms, but he knew better than to interrupt whatever the man was planning on doing next. He had already compromised once. "How about... Thai curry...? Something spicy!"

"That would be fine," Nataniel acquiesced with a slight dip of his head, as he folded his arms behind himself to keep his fingers from wandering. "Please be sure to select something I can eat, as well. When you look at the menu, it will usually have a leaf by it, or something similar." He didn't think December needed anymore instruction than that, so he slipped from the room.
Nat wasn't an especially romantic man, himself. When involved with intimacy, he usually knew what he was after, and he preferred to be straightforward with it. Pleasantries in relationships felt like a waste of time. He'd always believed that people who were 'close' should have similar mindsets as far as if dates were necessary and what sort of things needed to happen prior to and leading up to sex. If everyone agreed about these things, that would be the most simple, the most smooth.
And yet... December had seemed so excited about a 'date' when Nat had first brought it up a few days prior, and Nataniel had geared himself up in preparation for it.
Nataniel thought it would be... nice of him, if he did something sweet for December.
Of course December just wanted to stay home now, which was ridiculous and almost cruel of him to go subverting Nataniel's expectations like that, and the younger man had to know that Nat was going out of his way to do something atypically pleasant, and he had planned for it. He had planned. He huffed in quiet irritation, since if he wanted to do something 'atypically pleasant' now, he had to put quite a bit more thought into it.
"Wait in the living room for the delivery man, once you've ordered," he called toward his bedroom. "The knock is hard to hear from the back room."

"Alright, I won't let you down!" Before Nataniel could get too far away, he scrambled up and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you..."
And then he was gone, leaving December to fiddle around.
Food ordered, and... Well, that's all that he was told to do. It would take a bit of time, so he went to the bathroom to, at the very least, wash his face.
Standing there, looking in the mirror, he was beginning to change. Everything seemed less hollow, his eyes brighter. And... When he smiled, he honestly seemed happier. Maybe he hadn't noticed it before, but it was clear as day, even with the bruises that peeked out from under his clothing. He took just a moment to whisper a small wish, that he really hoped it would stay happy..
And in order for him to stay happy, he'd actually have to listen to Nataniel, so he hurried to the living room to wait, as instructed.
Even now he was missing Nataniel's warmth... Maybe he should have asked for him to stay closer...

Being irritable now would do him little good, so Nataniel tried not to grouse too much to himself as he rummaged through the hall closet. He wasn't made for any impromptu dates, though. His mind could barely fathom it. Nataniel hadn't been born with a mental state that was naturally receptive to these pleasantries. He huffed softly, and as December slipped by him on his way to the bathroom, Nat cast a skeptical squint over his shoulder at the younger man.
Inconsiderate child.
...But it should be fine.
As much as Nataniel complained, he didn't prefer to go out when he didn't have to. He should be considering himself lucky that December didn't want to force him out more often, really... It just would've been nice if he hadn't already thought of what they would do beforehand, purchased movie tickets, and mentally prepared himself. Though, as he pulled a heavy blanket from the top shelf, Nat couldn't help but think it would be just as nice not to feel obligated to do this, either.
With supplies in arm, he moved back toward the bedroom and out onto the side balcony. It was far from a large space, being only about six feet long and perhaps half as much wide, but it was room enough for the two of them for at least an hour or two.

December was only somewhat worried about Nataniel’s mood in regards to the whole sudden change of plans.
He hadn’t been yelled at, or glared at or scolded, really, so he was calm as he sat on the couch, poking at Nataniel’s phone while waiting for the food.
A warm, cozy feeling came over him, growing as he peeked at a few pictures of Dusk that at some point were taken... That feeling was such pure contentment, which remained as he answered the door, then half skipped to the kitchen with their meal.
“Nataniel! Food is here! Should I bring it into the bedroom?” He remained obediently out of the bedroom, but was eager to see the other man. He wanted to eat and to cuddle and probably, if allowed, go back to napping, because what was more content than a full belly and a cozy body to lay against?

Nataniel didn't hate being outside, not really. He did go out most days to jog and occasionally just for the thrill of riding his motorcycle, so it wasn't as if he spent no time outdoors. But only rarely did he ever just sit and watch and enjoy. The evening was warm, and the sunset calls from the flock of birds that nested in the nearby trees were just starting. It would be nice, Nat thought, to sit outside and listen to the sounds and be together...
He laid the blanket he'd retrieved from the closet out along the length of the balcony. He had a low-top wooden table that would serve as a good spot for them to settle their food and drink while they relaxed on the floor amid a nesting of canvas pillows that existed for this very purpose but saw very little use.
His mother had been... enthusiastic when picking out certain furnishings back when Nataniel had first struck out on his own, and outdoor furniture had been one of the things he'd seen little need for, but that Mikali had insisted he would like if he tried.
He did like it... There was just so infrequently reason to use it.
Until tonight. It would be cute, Nataniel decided, for he and December to lay on a blanket on his balcony, nestled back against a swath of pillows, while his potted plants and a scattering of lit candles framed their view of the world beyond. They could eat whatever December had ordered, drink a little wine, perhaps play a card or dice game. "You can come in," Nataniel replied after a moment.
