 Cody Rivera looked around as he arrived at the building, their were police cars and government vehicles. He was apart of the west side animal shelter, where he was called in even though he had only begun working there. He knew procedure and all of that but he was walking into the building and seemed horrified at the conditions the aninals were keot in. Turns out that due to the owner being caught for another crime, his home was searched and it seems he was trafficing animals as well. Cody was brought in because of a canine in a cage, which he walked into the room it had been in, finding a wolf like breed in a smaller then one should use for this breed, "How horrible." He spoke moving softly and showing he wasnt a threat to the canine as he moved closer.

 Blaze the Wolf Hybrid
Blaze was inside of a cage that was barely big enough for her to lay down in. She was laying down covered in matted fur and her own feces. She saw Cody coming towards her and began to shake in fear of being beaten. No one knew that she was pregnant due to the matted fur that covered her body. She whimpered as she had a very sweet temperament since she was more dog than wolf but looked more wolf than dog. She stood up as Cody would come closer to her before huddling more towards the rear of the small kennel she was in. She let out a howl like bark that was very meek and shy sounding as she stood there with sad eyes looking at Cody. The room she was in was warm but had no light source, and her water was completely green. Plus her food bowl was really smelly and dirty from not having been cleaned in a while. The room was also a huge mess with clutter and trash and smelled of death warmed over due to the feces that were caked on the kennel's floor. At that time, Blaze didn't have a name. She was the start of another puppy mill for this man who planned on trafficking her puppies for money for himself. She received little vet care for the scars on her. It was also home remedies that the man would provide her. If she got a gash from something, he'd sew it up without anything to numb it. She was nothing but a money making tool for her until her final days. Once the cage door was open, Blaze would allow Cody to get a lead around her neck before she would nervously come out and hide behind his legs from the man staring at her through the police car window when they made it outside.

Cody looked at her as he could see how scared she was as he approached, "Its alright girl... i wont hurt you, youre safe now." He reassured in a calm voice as he gently opened the cage. She smelled horrible and hated that she was covered in filth and mistreated so badly. He gently put a collar and leash on her to gently ease her out. She hadnt snapped at him which was good, so he gently lead her outside. He saw that she noticed which car he had been in and cowered behind Cody which he gently knelled by her, "He cant hurt you anymore, youre safe." He reassured as he led her to a van which had a bigger kennel cage in the back with a small bed. He helped her in and closed the cage, getting into the car. He drove the van to the shelter he worked with and helped the canine inside, where first things first, he got her to a large utility sink wherehe used a gentle luke warm sprayer and shampoo to clean the literal crap out of her fur. He felt her tense up when his hand was by her stomach and it felt distended which he worried she had a stomach issue or something. He knew how to tend to animals but he wasnt a vet, so he would call the vet in to check her as he finished cleaning her off, "Feeling better?" He asked having been gentle withher theentire time.

Blaze tensed a little whenever he touched her stomach but stood still, panting nervously as she'd not had a bath since she herself was a puppy. This was before her owner had gotten ahold of her. The breeder she came from was always kind, and gentle, with her and her siblings. She relaxed a bit when Cody started to massage the shampoo into her fur. The mats had been cut out beforehand so they were not a problem. She buried her head in Cody's chest as she was bathed loving the gentle attention. Once she'd had a bath, she was taken to the kennels until the vet would come by. She cowered in the back of her kennel laying on the bed that was provided for her. Next to her was a Pure white husky with the most beautiful eyes, one blue and one green. His green eye was very rare indeed. As he went over to Blaze's kennel to say hello, Blaze looked at him. His name was Tundra, and he was from a situation similar to Blaze's. He too was abused and neglected but thanks to Cody's coworkers, he was rescued and was now trying to find a good home. Blaze jumped a bit when she felt Tundra sniffing at her, but looked at him and gave him a small tail wag as she stood up and started to sniff at him as well. it wasn't that she didn't know how to make friends or didn't want to, but that she was scared to do so. Her owner would beat her for the littlest things. The stud he had used was of great lineage and stock, but not very friendly due to being more wolf than dog. Poor Blaze had a scar on her ear that still hurt from time to time from him that the owner had sewn up on his own.

Cody had left her be but when he came back, he had the vet with him, "Here she is Doctor." He stated as he would gently move Tundra away as the vet gently walked over to her and began to check her, "Such poor care of an animal, i cant believe people treat animals like this." The doctor said as Cody nodded, "Yeah but thats why they have people like us, to help them out of their horrible owners and into better homes." Cody said kindly, but the doctor did feel something odd, and gently put a collar on the dog, "This way girl." The doctor said as they walked to the vet's office where Cody gently helped her onto the table and got her to lay down. The vet did an ultrasound and nodded, "Just as i thought, she was being used as a breeder and is pregnant." The doctor explained as Cody was surprised, "Huh, congrats Blaze!" He said as the doctor looked at him curiously, but Cody smiled, "Dogs have to be named for adoption purposes, when shes healed and ready for it, she needs a name for paperwork, and i think blaze fits her fur color." He said kindly as the doctor rolled their eyes gently before Cody helped Blaze back to her kennel.

Blaze was shaking a little as the vet did an ultrasound on her. Though when she was allowed to sit up she was a little quick to do so. Once she was back beside of Tundra, the two of them were happy to see each other. Blaze actually loved Tundra's company. She went up to him and lay down close to his kennel. Tundra had been neutered so there was not a problem if they were to be put in the same kennel. Blaze was only about a month into her pregnancy which meant she still had two months left to go. Usually a dog is pregnant for up to three months unless there is a dangerous situation or the mother has a miscarriage. Tundra could sense that she was pregnant and was trying to comfort his new friend through the fencing material of their kennels. He whimpered a little wishing he could help her out more but because of the kennels being separated, he couldn't do much. He started to groom her fur, or what he could reach of it, through the fencing material. Blaze's tail began to wag happily as he did this. She was used to being around dogs like him as a puppy but had not been for a while. Tundra was the clinic dog so he was allowed to be out of his kennel to comfort other dogs, or even to play with the staff, which was always fun for him.

Cody came to check on her after she was in her kennel after the check up and he saw Tundra and laughed some, "Always the den father huh?" He saidhappily as he walked over and opened her kennel so he could help her out. Cody liked Tundra since he was a police dog, one trained to help train humans with how to handle their dogs. Due to his bright fur coat though it was hard to keep him out of danger so he was just used for training. He was reliable and protective and always helped new dogs feel better so him helping Blaze was nice. He walked into her kennel as well and gently put a collar on it. Adjusting the size so it wouldnt hurt her, it had her new name and some tags of her being pregnant and such so any other worker can spot them. He smiled to her, gently petting her so she would know he wouldnt hurt her as he looked at her, "I bet youre hungry arent you?" He asked as he brought her some food and water, it was a special kibble that they used, it would taste funny a bit for her since it was made to help give her any nutrients she may not have been given when in her horrible owners possession but it also had some medicines as well since she had been covered in crap as well to help fight any infections even after cleaning.

Tundra carefully went up to Blaze as she was eating, letting her have the food. Though she was more than happy to eat it since the food her old owner had given her was mostly stale and not for pregnant dogs. She ate it slowly at first but didn't mind the taste. Tundra seemed to be guarding her a bit to make sure no one took her food away from her. Once she finished her food, she went over to her bed before she curled up a bit. Tundra came over sensing she was nervous and lay down next to her with his tail wagging. Blaze's own tail wagged a little as Tundra lay his head over her own to calm her down some. Blaze looked over at Cody shyly, wishing her owner had been as nice as he was being to her now. She'd need a foster home once the pups would be born, and until the pups would be old enough to find homes for themselves. Plus Blaze would need to find a home for herself too.

He watched as Tundra had comforted Blaze, "Good boy." He would say as he was able to comfort her but he thought over what would happen with her. He sat by the cage, "Alright, well first things first... we will need to find a home for the pups, but i have a few ideas, some families were looking for some pups to adopt so that shouldnt be too hard but i want to make sure you have a proper home, one that will be good for you Blaze." He said aloud, really just talking to himself as he got on the phone and was looking through work emails and contacts.one thing was for sure, Tundra did a great job, and for being ex police training dog, worked out great. Cody found out Tundra helped train dog handlers, being properly trained, he helped aid the trainers to get them use to giving commands to their dogs. They even showed Tundra doing the whole grab a persons arm and draging them to the floor thing, that was an interesting video since looking at the docile and calm Tundra, it was fascinating how gentle he was.

Blaze felt comforted by Tundra, he was a huge help over the next few days. Blaze had gotten used to hte barking/howling of the other dogs around her. She watched as most of the puppies had gotten homes and were taken out. Though she was looked over for being pregnant, she loved when Cody would come to see her. She was currently outside playing with Tundra who was always gentle with her. He even showed her how to play with toys which hse never had done before now. They were playing with a pull rope together, and he was being really careful not to let her overdo it with her being pregnant and all. She'd made a really huge transformation since she first arrived about a week ago. Then again, Tundra helped with that as well. They were best friends and Tundra seemed to really like Blaze a lot.

Cody smiled watching the two dogs run and play around, he tended to some of the other animals, helping care for the others in the shelter as apart of his job but then would walk over to Tundra and Blaze, "How are you two huh?" He asked petting Tundra gently before petting Blaze gently as well, rubbing her side gently where she liked being rubbed, "Youre doing so well Blaze, im so happy to see you enjoying yourself." He said glad that she had seemed to open up and become more playful in the time she had been there.

Blaze's tail wagged as Cody rubbed her side gently. She loved everyone here but still had trouble with strangers. As she was playing she saw cars coming and going. Some had dogs go home with them while others weren't so lucky to get a home that particular time.

Cody was happy to help pups and dogs alike find their forever homes, which they had a couple cats, but they were there only for treatment by the vet. He would watch as dogs and pups found homes, some having more trouble then others. One day, he could tell one dog was lonely at the facility and he knew the same went for Blaze and Tundra who both stayed at the kennel at night. He decided something special as he unrolled his sleeping bag by the kennels so he would be in thebuilding with all the dogs, which even in their kennels, seemed happier to have some presence there.

Blaze's tail wagged as her side was rubbed. She really liked Cody as he was kind and gentle with her. That night, she noticed that he was in the kennels. She and Tundra had been put in the same one as Tundra seemed to keep her calm and happy during her pregnancy. As she was laying down with, Tundra laying next to her, she felt her pups kicking. She knew she was getting close to having them. She was a lot further than they originally thought according to her x-rays last week. She was due any day but there were only 4 pups as far as they could tell. As she was laying there, she whimpered a bit but the other dogs were settling down for the night with a few of them still playing around or barking at the cats that roamed the office at night. Tundra went over to Blaze's head and nuzzled her gently sensing she was going into labor soon. This was her first litter of pups so she would need help with their care.

Cody was getting comfy in the sleeping bag, the dog he was with had calmed down some but as he was about to get comfy for the night, he decided to make one last sweep among the kennels. He walked past an empty one but then turned and noticed Blaze and Tundra's kennel and walked over, "Hey girl, everything okay?" He asked concerned, hoping that she was okay as he unlocked and opened the door and walked inside, going over to her. He looked at Tundra, "Keeping an eye on her boy?" He asked kindly petting and scratching Tundra's neck, for a military trainer dog, he was very protective but he guessed it made sense that he was.
