Quote:
The night is cool but not unbearably cold; somewhere, in the distance, a faint tune carries on the breeze. Whether you choose to follow it or not is up to you but the tune is vaguely familiar. Maybe you can place it, maybe you can’t, but it resonates with you and you find yourself full of emotion. If you choose to follow the music you wind up in an isolated lake in the park. It’s frozen over, but you see a figure skating across the ice, playing a violin. They will skate and play for as long as you watch, but at some point--between one blink and the next--they disappear, like a shadow on the wind. The tune echoes but fades quickly, leaving behind only a strange emptiness. The figure never communicates and never leaves the lake; they never stop playing but if anyone gets too close they simply disappear. The music seems to play on any night it snows in the park.

Owlish eyes peered out from behind a visor.

Her gaze remained fixed on the ever present being who swept gracefully across the frozen lake. Too and fro it went, the endless and yet uncomfortably familiar tune carrying across the still air towards her. She'd seen this person more than once now, she hadn't paid much head to them either as there had been every possibility that this was part of the actual seasonal festivities that the city often put on at these times of year. However with each passing day she had walked passed more and more people on her way home from university that had all told the same tales.

...Had you seen the violinist on the lake?

Had he disappeared for you as well, or did you manage to get him to speak?

Eventually the murmured rumours had been too much for the senshi to ignore and with her curiosity piqued she had chosen this evening to power up and make her own way to the lake. Her state of dress was simply power for the course, she knew better than to come unprepared nowadays, but that didn't mean that she ever had a plan beyond that. As usual the red-head was winging it and at this current point in time she was 'lying low'. This mean that she had selected one very large bush to sit in, an obvious attempt not to be spotted, and she was now peering out of it through parted branches.

There were problems with this disguise of course, there were always problems with many of Adorea's thrown together concepts, but she did her best anyway. To anyone passing her on the footpath to the left she'd be difficult to spot, but for those coming from her right it wouldn't take a particularly observant person to spot the set of purple boots that were poking straight out of the back of the bush. More importantly the bush also seem to have 'splayed' out at the sides given it wasn't built to be a seat, let alone to carry any weight other than that of a small animal. Quite frankly she might have had more luck dressing as a cardboard cutout of a tree from one side but at least she had given it a go.

Regardless of whatever passerbys might think of the oddball in the bushes, the important thing to Adorea was that the entity on the lake hadn't yet realised she was there. Then again, based on rumours it wouldn't, but she had elected to observe first and then charge forward later.

A relief to some given her penchant for diving in without forethought on almost every other occasion!

Mia wandered peacefully along the paved path, leather jacket zipped up tightly over her sweater. While she didn't mind the cold, she wasn't very good at enduring it. Winter here in Destiny City was a far cry from shimmering heat waves over endless dunes of sand or the close, suffocating temperatures of tropical jungles. Then again, it wasn't as cold as nights in the desert either. Kind of middling, really. She stuffed her hands into her warm pockets anyway and continued thumping along.

Breaking her pointless reverie came a tune, so soft she almost missed it. As cliche as it was: a whisper upon the wind. Coming to a stop and tilting her head slight toward the sound, the historian realized she had the ghost of an unbidden smile upon her lips. It instantly died. Considering anything that made one react with realizing it often meant cursed artifacts or some manner of enchantment, it was a reasonable response. On the other hand, music on its own was rather powerful. What was it with the indecision tonight? One thing was for sure, she was going to investigate.

Trudging in the direction of the ethereal symphony, Mia soon came in sight of the frozen lake. It was beautiful in the evening light, glittering like a land-bound star. Upon it, the source of her attentions became evident: a skater, gliding effortlessly along while bowing a violin. The sheer amount of coordination required for such a feat was impressive, but the adventurer remained suspicious. So focused, in fact, that she nearly tripped over a pair of purple boots sticking out of a bush.

"Wha...?" she muttered, knocking the sole of a bush shoe with the tip of one of her own. "Spying is generally frowned upon, you realize," she said loudly enough for the mystery owner to hear but still quietly.

It seemed the volume to use in light of the music lilting all about them.

Ow.

Mia had successfully hit the ankle bone in just the right spot for the red head to wince in the bushes, she did however refrain from whining. She'd been in worse pain before and a smarting ankle from an otherwise feeble collision wasn't going to cause any lasting damage. Instead the senshi simply afforded a heavy sigh and pushed her face forward out of the bushes to reveal herself.

Her lifted brow and bemused features were relatively easy to see in the dim light, though the shadows did cast awkwardly over some of her face given her current location.

"Information gathering actually," Adorea corrected the woman wryly. She would probably have acknowledged that both were the same thing technically speaking, but spying normally implied that someone was up to something a touch more nefarious. Given the senshi only ever acted on behalf of the 'greater good' this didn't could as nefarious.

"We should really stop meeting like this," she added and slowly pulled herself out from her hiding spot, tugging away branches that still clung to her. It was another opportunity for her to assess the woman before shaking her head. "Unless you're an adrenaline junky and this is just your jam," she added.

She paused for a moment and clucked her tongue.

"Maybe want to find the adrenaline hit elsewhere during the holidays though, gets weird out here when things are too festive." She warned.

By now Mia was probably well aware of how weird things got during the festive period, she'd probably encountered plenty of instances that were paranormal in nature but for now at least the violinist seemed to be harmless. Adorea afforded herself a moment to glance towards the figure that remained undisturbed and thus continued its performance unbated. So far she hadn't heard of any stories regarding this being and random attacks... but one could never be too sure.

"Well, considering these things tend to happen to me whether or not I want them to, I'd say that I don't have much of a choice," Mia responded with a shrug, wholly unsurprised to see that the owner of the purple boots was Adorea. "And if I wasn't a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, I think I might have chosen a different profession by now."

She followed her companion's gaze back across the lake, eyes following the skater as it glided smoothly across the frozen glass surface. Honestly the archaeologist was already quite sure this was another supernatural occurrence in the making, considering how haunting and seductive the tune issuing forth from the instrument was. She just wasn't sure how dangerous... yet.

"You seem to know a lot about these things and show up to even more of them," Mia mused, crossing her arms but keeping her attentions forward.

"How is it that you know enough to warn me about these things? Long-time resident or something?" She smiled a bit. "And career vegetation expert, they seem to be your go-to when spying."

"It's a vantage point," She replied defensively to the older woman and hauled herself out of the bush. Several twigs and leaves clung to her, mostly in her hair, but she seemed largely unconcerned. When it came to her outer appearance the red-head had long given up on looking respectable. She'd only been in this role for a year or so but she'd quickly learned that clean and well kept were not two words that could be associated with her profession.

"Well," she clasped her hands together and fixed her gaze on the violinist. "I didn't really know about any of it until last year," she admitted and shook her head slowly. Up until then Adorea had been naive, she'd been a Benson and Bensons tended to go on holidays at every hint of a festive opportunity. It may have been pure coincidence but based on that timing she'd never had the pleasure of participating in such experiences.

"Then I ended up getting this uh... job and now it's sort of my jam," she admitted.

"I'd sooner be here to avoid anything bad happening to someone long term, if I can stop it then I'll stop it," she shrugged.

"What do you do anyway?" she added. Mia hadn't really made that clear and to be perfectly fair to the woman there hadn't really been any opportunity to do so until now.
