Quote: Snow on the ground glistens under the moonlight and seems to illuminate everything with an ethereal glow. Destiny City feels almost safe, even at night. The fresh fallen snow seems undisturbed and brings a sense of peace. Only, there’s something eerie about it. After a while, it feels like someone--or something--is watching you. In the shadows of the trees, a set of milky eyes watches. Whatever it is, it’s tall and bulky. If you walk quickly, you feel it follow you but once you leave the line of trees, it disappears. If you try to approach it, a great beast will screech at you: a six foot tall snowy white owl takes flight. It may tackle or claw at you, depending on how you approach it, but it will always take flight and disappear in the night. If you choose to attack it, for the next few nights any time you look out your window you will see glowing eyes in the distance--or worse, hear it scratching to get in. Eventually, the temperature rises and the visits stop. For now. The reports had been a touch peculiar but after she'd received several concerned phone calls at the clinic it became a bit more difficult to ignore. She couldn't begin to imagine how many of these calls had hit other clinics and if they had chosen to ignore them as standard procedure, but in the end the Veterinarian had erred on the side of caution.
If it turned out to be a hoax then she would rest easy, though she did have to wonder how so many individuals could be so concerned with the same phenomenon. If it turned out to be true then she could at the very least seek to aid the snow owl that was decidedly out of place in the city. Granted, no one had told her quite how big this particular 'owl' was, all the young woman had picked up on was that an out of place animal required some assistance.
...At the very least it could be captured and returned to a more appropriate region.
You know, with snow.
Thus the veterinarian now found herself bundled up from head to toe, thick faux fur lined boots keeping her feet at the temperature she preferred and her upper half sufficiently smothered in several layers of warmth. She didn't do overly well with the cold, not well at all, but at the very least she had come prepared for the long haul. Had it not been for the medical bag slung comfortably over her shoulder she would have looked like any other person as they ran through the city to their next destination... But to those paying close attention, she stood out just a little.
Electing not to take a taxi, she'd already invested time in travelling on several buses and on the subway, eventually coming up to the forested park that most of the reports had been quite insistent was the location in question.
Nothing seemed out of place at the moment but rather than risk it she took several steps through the gate and set about looking around for this fabled owl. If it was what they had said it was then she'd spot it reasonably quickly, if it wasn't, well...she could spend the rest of her evening taking the buses back home!

It was a beautiful night. Beautiful and still and quiet, and as Jacob sat in the park, drinking his large hot chocolate from his favorite coffee shop, he gazed out into the dark trees, feeling relaxed.
Perhaps he should have invited Samir to hang out with him, or perhaps he should go and visit his friend with his dogs…that would be nice, wouldn’t it? He wore a small smile on his face and took another long sip of the rich, warm beverage. Perhaps it was just a nice night to simply be alone. Being alone didn’t always have to be a bad thing…and…
Jacob paused, his brows lowering in some confusion as he thought he saw something in the trees. It looked for a moment like a pair of eyes were staring back at him from the darkness—but that was stupid.
He took a moment and then got up, still frowning as he moved towards the line of trees, holding his drink in one hand and taking slow, hesitant steps, trying to figure out why it felt as though he were being watched. The hair on the back of his neck was standing on end, and he hated that feeling above all others. “Hello?” He called softly, hoping that it was just some trick.
…He hoped at least that it wasn’t a youma. That wouldn’t…
Be great at all.
Suddenly a loud screech cut through the quiet night and Jacob let out a cry of fear as a giant owl came at him, talons extended. He tried to stumble backwards and the drink fell from his hand, lid popping off and spilling the warm liquid everywhere. Thankfully, he managed to trip over a slightly raised tree root, so that his arm was no longer in the way of those wicked talons. “Holy s**t!” The male’s voice was loud, and full of a desperate panic as the creature screeched again, and began to fly off.

The park had remained empty as she traipsed through it and with no signs of immediate life hopping about under the more sparsely populated parkland, February did have to wonder if perhaps rumours had been whipped up by festive fervor and she should have chosen to ignore the frantic calls. If she'd chosen to ignore them she would have been a touch warmer, but rather than quit while she was still a fair distance from the treeline, the vet had chosen to keep moving forward.
If she found nothing after pacing across the treeline then she would turn round, but for now...
"Holy s**t!"
She froze in her tracks and looked up towards the alarmed cry, she was close, but it seemed that it was around the corner from her current position. Suffice to say that Ru wasn't a hero of any description and she certainly wouldn't be battling the nearest thief any time soon, but given this was the area of the rumoured giant owl there was a distinct possibility she could do something about it.
Not yet aware that the creature in question had magical properties (something she wasn't inclined to admit existed anyway), she hesitated no further and broke into a run towards the corner. Several awkward movements of her arms followed as she attempted to open her bag to retrieve the dart gun that would be necessary to take the wayward fowl down.
...Alas, by the time she got there what she saw was most certainly not what she expected.
Dart only partially loaded, she was left agape as the owl flew into the sky and left her under no illusion that it was most certainly gigantic and most assuredly, it wasn't imaginary.
"Oh my god," she uttered, at least recovering just enough to straighten and grasp both dart and gun more firmly. With her only tool unloaded it wouldn't be much use now, but given the fowl had already taken flight it was no longer safe to knock it out of the sky again either.
In retrospect she was beginning to think she might need to call in someone with a little more experience when it come to hunting big game.
Her momentary surprise soon passed though and her priorities realigned to what had drawn her here in the first place. A man now lay in a rather undignified fashion on the ground, warm drink strewn across limb and snow. He was moving though, she could tell that much, but whether he was unharmed -
"Are you all right?" she asked as she sprung forward again, bridging the gap between herself and Jacob. "It didn't get you, did it?" she added now that she was close enough to take in the full extent of any injuries. Initial observations seemed to indicate he was fine, if a little surprised... But then again she would have been stunned if that had flown out at her too.
"I thought that thing was a hoax," she paused.
"It's real, fancy that."

Jacob was laying on the ground, his eyes wide, pupils dilated. For a long moment, he couldn’t quite grasp what was going on, couldn’t quite grasp the fact that there was another voice, someone who had seen the huge creature. Someone who had seen him fall over. For half a second, shame tried to creep into his feelings, but it was still swamped by the fear that pumped through his veins.
“N-no…” The male said, coughing to try and hide the tremor in his voice. “No, that was, ah. That was quite real. Ah…Thank goodness I tripped. Lost…lost my drink though.” Jacob pushed himself up, his whole body still trembling as the fear continued to pump adrenaline through his system. “I’m…I’m good. Thought for a moment that I wouldn’t be but…” He finally looked up at his would be rescuer and froze again, staring with a dumbfounded expression.
“F-February?” With how the night was going, he wondered if he had simply smashed his head against the ground, or if this was nothing more than a trick of his mind, brought on by the fear and shock.
But if it wasn’t his older sister…it was someone who was missing a great chance to be.

February's reunions with existing family members were quickly turning into something of a trend. They always happened by surprise as though the stars had aligned to ensure they met, and every single time, it was her sibling her recognised her first. In the grand scheme of things she probably needed to look into that and address why she wasn't quite twigging on to the fact that her own blood was in front of her but for now... She afforded a brief pause.
With an opportunity to address the man in front of her, it became all too apparent that she was definitely in front of someone she knew. More importantly he hadn't aged much in the time she'd been away. To be perfectly honest there were no excuses not to recognise him.
"June?" she asked incredulously, taking a moment to lift up his drink soak arm. He was fortunate in the sense that he was wearing such a thick coat, anything thinner and he might have scalded himself, but with the exception of some mild shock he genuinely seemed to be all right.
"...Are you all still here?" it seemed like a strange question, but as he was the second of her siblings that she had stumbled upon in such a brief period of time she did have to wonder. She'd bee remiss when it came to keeping in contact, relying on them to send her the greeting cards, postcards and little letters... but when those had dried up she'd never thought to ask why.
In her world no news was good news and with rather disjointed logic as she was often want to have, she had assumed that they had all moved away and were leading their own lives by now. Hadn't that been what January had done as well? Both she and he had moved away, it would only have been natural for the rest to as they grew up but apparently... She was missing something.
She paused, but only briefly.
"Do you want to head somewhere warmer and we can clean your coat?" she offered with a small chuckle. "Maybe a coffee shop and I'll get you a new drink," she added.
She can tranquilise the owl later, for now it seemed abundantly clear she was going to need to stake the place out and shoot it when it appeared. For something so large it moved rather fast and she was definitely going to need help to keep it in check.

For a long moment he simply stared at her, and finally a smile broke across his face, in spite of his self-imposed distancing from his family. He had left all of them, gone to make his own life, away from the clannish mob of the Blooms but…when he managed to meet with his siblings again…he always felt such a stupid sense of happiness. “I don’t know…about all of us. I know December is. I’ve met back up with him…I didn’t realize you were still in the city.”
Jacob allowed himself to be examined by her, however briefly and then reached his hands out to make sure his braid was still at least somewhat in place. “Warmer does sound nice, but I’m not too worried about the coat…though the drink sounds good. That was a mighty good hot chocolate…” He felt suddenly awkward, and wasn’t sure how to keep the conversation going, though was glad for the excuse to spend a little more time with his older sister. But…he had turned his back on the family. He had wanted to leave it all behind and live a calm, quiet life…though look at all that had happened after he had met up with December again…
If he hadn’t…he would never have been brought into the Negaverse, that much was sure…
And if he hadn’t been brought into the Negaverse…he wouldn’t have his best friend so…
Jacob didn’t want to waste this chance to at least talk with February, but his initial joy was now saturated with confusion, and just a touch of foreboding.

"Oh, no no!" She gave her hand a delicate wave as she collected the things she had dropped and carefully slotted them back into her backpack. "I just came back," she pointed out. She'd been out of the city for a considerable amount of time and to be fair to Jacob, he'd never have known she'd come back recently given she hadn't actually thought to tell anyone!
"I bumped in to December recently as well," she smiled warmly and readjusted her pack before nodding for him to join her as she made towards the path. "He's started helping out at my practice for a while," she added. While not entirely clear, the truth was that to this day February was oblivious to the large amounts of drama that had occurred in her absence. Consequently there were a lot of siblings she'd need to track down and she'd have a fair amount of catching up to do as well.
"Warmth however, is something I am absolutely about," she added with a wink. A creature of pampering and comfort, she was never going to be one who'd say no to kicking her feet up and relaxing somewhere warm. That being said she did afford a quick look towards his coat and wrinkled her nose, it was a nice coat, she would have been a touch upset if it had been ruined.
"Will it wash out?" she asked curiously. She couldn't certainly afford to help with dry cleaning bills but in comparison to December who had been jolly but a touch uncertain, his older brother seemed to have his head screwed on a bit more.
"The hot chocolate is on me though...if you can show me where the place is of course," she chuckled. "If it's that good then I'm more than a little intrigued."

He nodded, giving a little smile. December was such a good kid, he had to find more time to see his younger brother. He missed him. “I’ve been in touch with him, but he’s so…” Jacob sighed. “I just want to protect him, you know? He’s filled with such light, and I don’t like the thought of it ever being dimmed. But he always seems to have some reason why we can’t hang out. Not that I’m not busy, but still. I miss him.”
Jacob snorted at the question and nodded. “Of course it will wash out. No harm done, and good. If you’re paying for the hot chocolate, then maybe I’ll go all out and get a larger one, eh, big sis?”
He laughed and nodded his head towards the general direction of where the café was. “Follow me, I’ll show you. After this, Feb. You won’t ever be able to go back to any other hot chocolate. Or any other type of coffee. They have nice pastries too, if I’m being honest.” It was strange, how easy it suddenly was to talk to her. How much he suddenly craved the opportunity to talk with her again. To get to know her again.
He didn’t want to waste this. It was a snap decision, but Jacob knew that it was the right one.

He was certainly right about their brother, while she couldn't quite put her finger on it there was something there that wasn't necessarily 'off', but it was different. She had to wonder what had happened while she was away, granted she couldn't change it now, but a little context might have helped her to piece some of the smaller elements of the puzzle together. Nevertheless December seemed happy and healthy and that's all that really mattered in the long run.
...Though what he was so busy with that he couldn't see his brother was beyond her knowledge!
"Now that is a big claim," she warned him with a raised brow. She loved tiny cakes and if he was going to declare that this particular spot had the best pasteries, well then, he'd better be right about that. If he wasn't? Well then poor Jacob would have to accept that his sister would hound him until he agreed to come with her to what she perceived as the best shop out there.
"But we'll see if you're right," she added as she wandered beside him. "So you haven't seen anyone else really?" She pressed. "You've just done your own thing?"
She paused.
"So what do you do?" she sounded a little more blunt than she should have but everyone had picked up on their own thing while she was away and she had a bundle to catch up on!

Jacob laughed softly. “I’m always right. It’s kind of my job.” He began to walk towards the café, a small grin on his face. “Yeah, no. I haven’t seen anyone else. And even running into December was utterly random chance. As for me, I have done my own thing…I um.”
It wasn’t exciting, but it was money…though why did he feel so self-conscious about it?
“I’m an insurance adjuster. I have my own office and everything…I’m…” Jacob cleared his throat and shrugged, trying not to laugh again. “You know. Kind of a big deal.” He couldn’t hold back the laughter then. “Okay, that’s a damn lie. But…the money’s good, and that’s what matters. I do a lot of quilting in my spare time though. I’ll make one for you, if you’d like.”
Even if she didn’t like…he wanted to make her one.
It was just…a nice way to remind what members of his family that he ran into again that…he was still around.

Unbeknownst to her, February was probably one of the least exciting members of her own family. As neither Negaverse or White Moon, she was quite literally just the average civilian. Sure, she might have been a business owner and she was particularly proud of that, but if she really knew the truth about what her family got up to she may have been stupified.
"What's wrong with that?" She seemed genuinely puzzled by the sheepishness and shook her head. "There's nothing wrong with having a comfortable job that you're good at and it just so happens to pay the bills," she pointed out. She wouldn't lie, she loved her own job but in the grand scheme of things, comfort meant a great deal to her.
...Money was money.
"Means you can do the stuff you actually like and not worry about it, plus I assume the hours are pretty decent," she pointed out. She recalled working shifts when she had been studying, and she definitely remembered the less glamourous retail jobs she'd had. When it came to more desirable shift patterns and a work life balance this was fairly important to her to say the least!
"But anyway -" she waved her hand and quickly turned her interest to his hobby. "Don't quilts take ages to make? Those things sound like a real labour of love," she continued, her tone warm and perhaps a touch excited. Suffice to say, if he wanted to spend some time making a quilt for her she was likely to be ecstatic.

“The hours are decent, most of the time. But…” He gave a dramatic sigh. “...Look, with as much crazy stuff that happens in this city...honestly? My job is pretty stable. To say the least. But...enough about that, quilts do take quite a while to make, but...it’s worth it. It’s calming and the end result is just...breathtaking most of the time. How about you text me a few colors that you like and I can get started on it. I’ll bring it to you the next time that we see each other. And, yes. This is just an excuse to see my big sister again sometime in the future.”
Giving a grin, Jacob laughed and shrugged. “If that’s okay with you. This is really been nice. Getting hot chocolate all over me and being attacked by a crazy monster bird included. I’m really glad that I got to see you again, Feb.”
Jacob’s voice had grown softer, much more sentimental and he kind of hated it. He cleared his throat roughly and drew in a breath, wincing as the cold froze his lungs.
“Ah! here’s the shop. Prepare to be amazed, February!”

February paused, life hasn't been all that strange for her since she'd come back and with the exception of the huge owl she'd encountered which could have had a perfectly sound explanation, she hadn't really seen anything that had been a cause for concern. Was there something she was missing, or had missed, and was therefore naïve to it? In the grand scheme of things it might be better if she wasn't aware of what she'd moved back in to.
Back when she had left DC to study things hadn't taken a turn for the weird.
Stepping into the shop, she removed her scarf and then gave it a shake before finally looking around for a table. There were a few free fortunately, but before she could make a leap for one she'd at least need to get her order straight.
"Colours hm?" she mused as she glanced over her shoulder towards her brother curiously. "I think I can do that, although are there any you absolutely shouldn't have on it?" she asked. It seemed like an odd question, but there might have been some secret no-nos she wasn't aware of. You just didn't wear some colours on some days, or put some colours in certain foods, use certain colours in certain rooms and...well, he'd get the picture eventually.
Quilts may have been that complicated.
They weren't of course, but she didn't know that.Orangeish Sherbert All good from my side! <3

Jacob nodded, glancing at the menu and walking up to the counter. “If you trust me, I can order for you. I know what’s best here.” He grinned, nodding and shrugged, stifling a yawn. “I mean, don’t pick any colors that you don’t like. I can make almost anything work, I just want to make sure that the colors I pick out are colors that you don’t hate.”
Giving a little laugh, he ordered two hot chocolates, with extra heavy cream and marshmallow fluff. He gave the clerk at the counter his card before he thought about it and then pursed his lips. “I guess, I’m going to be treating you today. I don't mind though. I missed you.”
He would make her a beautiful quilt. They would...have a chance to be a family again. Everything would be great. “I have an idea for a pattern for you, seriously. I’m excited to make this.”

"I'll get you a swatch," she agreed. Given there were no specific rules she could make something that really spoke to her and all being well, she wouldn't hand her brother something beyond ridiculous. He may be filled with talent but in the grand scheme of things there were times when any creative genius couldn't make some combinations work. Suffice to say that she had seen them try and no matter how good their attempt was, in the end there was just that one colour that decided to rebel.
...She would aspire not to be the one who asked for that colour.
"And the next time will be on me," she said with a dismissive wave of her hand. Sure it had been coincidence, even fate, that they had run in to each other this evening but that didn't mean that would be the only time she'd see him. Given it had been somewhat difficult to reach some of her relatives since she'd come back she wasn't about to simply say 'hi' and allow them to go back to their own business.
Well, she was, but not without a number first.
"But the next time we'll go somewhere I've discovered, a hidden gem," she added. "I'll call that my little quest until I find something that you don't wave your hand at and announce you've already found," she smirked. "Might take a while, you've been around here longer than I have and know how the place looks now, but just wait, it'll be great."
"Although you haven't gotten any food allergies or anything since I left right? That's probably something I need to keep in mind."
