Quote:
Snow on the ground glistens under the moonlight and seems to illuminate everything with an ethereal glow. Destiny City feels almost safe, even at night. The fresh fallen snow seems undisturbed and brings a sense of peace. Only, there’s something eerie about it. After a while, it feels like someone--or something--is watching you. In the shadows of the trees, a set of milky eyes watches. Whatever it is, it’s tall and bulky. If you walk quickly, you feel it follow you but once you leave the line of trees, it disappears. If you try to approach it, a great beast will screech at you: a six foot tall snowy white owl takes flight. It may tackle or claw at you, depending on how you approach it, but it will always take flight and disappear in the night. If you choose to attack it, for the next few nights any time you look out your window you will see glowing eyes in the distance--or worse, hear it scratching to get in. Eventually, the temperature rises and the visits stop. For now.

It was a beautiful night. A completely beautiful night, and Lysithea was pleased that she got the chance to go on a patrol on her own. Evan, Zac and Tobias were all at a movie, and Soleiyu was hanging out with Gale and Loren for the evening. It was so peaceful to know that the people that she cared the most about were all safe. And all happy, and that it was only she who was out on a patrol, and honestly, the only reason she even left to go out tonight was due to the fact the moon looked so beautiful…and it seemed to almost call her.

And when you were a senshi…normally when the light of the moon called, you answered.

She had gone to one of the wooded parks a few blocks away and was walking through the trees, pausing when she felt another senshi nearby. It was such a calming feeling, like a friendly warmth reaching out for her. “Hello?” Lysithea’s voice sounded clear and carried well in the still night air. “Come hang out with me, it’s beautiful!”

It was for nights like this…times that she had a chance to breathe, that made her remember just why she fought so hard. They were fighting for this. For this peace and beauty.

And it was so easy to find reasons to keep fighting when the world was still and silent.

For all of her reluctance about space, and destiny, and the rest of that sort of thing, Cybele did like the moon. She liked the way it almost always shone in the sky, even when the rest of the stars were all covered in thin clouds or faded out by light pollution. She liked the castle on the moon that she'd seen twice. It was beautiful up there. She liked thinking of herself as White Moon, even though the term had gone out of favor in recent years. There had been a time where she'd been quite a lone wolf, and it was still easier to go that route, most nights, but it wasn't such a secret anymore that she wanted to be part of something bigger. She wanted a Court, and she thought the moon was as good a banner for it as any, dead princess or no.

Yes, like on many of the quieter nights, Cybele found herself staring at the sky as she walked through the park at a calmer pace, thinking things over, but she was brought back down to earth when she felt an aura nearby. It was Order. A senshi, and another Eternal at that. Connections, she thought as she headed over.

"Hello!" she called. "I'm coming!"

She tried to mentally flip through the list of senshi she knew, but the voice seemed different, and when she turned a corner around a leafless hedge, she found herself face to face with someone new. She smiled automatically, but as she looked the girl up and down, she smiled a little wider.

"Oh, your outfit is lovely! We match a little, don't we?"

Cybele ran a hand up one of the silver antlers that curved up from her tiara, and then she nodded down to the crisscrossed ribbons that started at her shoes.

"What's your name? I'm Cybele."

She did notice that the other senshi had been given a few more layers than she had, but rather than mentioning it, she just folded her arms to try to fend off the cold. It was worth it to be out in this lovely snow.

It wasn’t a voice she recognized, ant that alone made Lysithea feel excited, and just a bit hopeful. When the green haired senshi came into view, Lysithea grinned. It was someone new. Someone who was as dolled up as she was, and when the other eternal mentioned the similarities in their outfits, she couldn’t help but grin all the wider.

“I’m Lysithea, Senshi of Unicorns. It’s very nice to meet you, Cybele!”

She felt like a child on Christmas day. It was so nice to be making new friends. She enjoyed the fact that there were still people out there that she didn’t know. It made her feel excited, eager to go out and explore more. Go out and meet all of the senshi, all of the knights that she didn’t yet know.

“It’s a beautiful night, isn’t it? I love that purple that’s in your fuku, it really makes it pop.” And the horns on her tiara, it was funny how similar things had worked out for them. Though, she wondered what the girl’s sphere was. Deer, perhaps? That would make sense with the antlers.

"Unicorns? I like that," she said. She'd always liked the magical side of all this, and a senshi of unicorns just sounded like the kind of person who would be inherently magical. The glimmering gossamer sleeves and such only added to the effect.

"I'm Senshi of the Hunt," she added, her tone conversational, if a little distracted. Lysithea was right. The night really was beautiful. This was the perfect place to get a good look at the moon. The moonlight gave both the snow and the other senshi's outfit the loveliest sort of glimmer.

Cybele had a tendency to be on edge that had worsened over the years, but just at that moment, there was something soft about the look in her eyes as she admired the moon, the way she let her shoulders drop, and her smile as she glanced back over to her new acquaintance.

Then, she could have sworn she felt eyes on her back, and all the tension came back into her body all at once. She glanced over her shoulder, eyes narrowed, before she turned back around and shook her head. "Strange," she murmured. It could have been nothing, but living with magic around for so long, she'd learned to trust that sort of instinct.

Lysithea smiled. “I like it too, it’s…a sphere that brings hope, I think…at least, that’s what I enjoy thinking about.” If it did or didn’t, she didn’t really mind either way.

“The Hunt?” That was an interesting sphere…she would have bet it was something like the Senshi of Deer…but, that was a unique sphere, and she liked it. When the other senshi glanced behind her shoulder, Lysithea paused, frowning slightly. “…I don’t…feel anyone nearby…” Nobody powered at least, though she felt the sensation of something or someone watching them.

At the very least the other senshi seemed to feel the same. “…Maybe…it’s just…an animal or something. Do you want to walk…?” If they could get out of the area…maybe it would be better. She hoped so at least.

“…How…long have you been doing this for?”

Hope. That was nice. Cybele wasn't sure that her sphere brought anything like that to mind, anything sweet, but The Hunt was unapologetically fierce in a way that some of the other spheres, and Cybele had leaned into that a long time ago. She would be a warrior. She would hunt evil.

Sometimes, that mindset left her restless. She could just feel a piercing gaze on her shoulder blades. Something was there, except when she looked around and it wasn't.

There was worry deep in Lysithea's eyes, too, but Cybele tried to smile. There was a chance it was just then being jumpy Eternals who had seen too much.

"Yes, let's go," she said, and her voice, at least, was calm. "My outfit is a tiny bit warmer these days, but I still prefer to keep moving in winter." The path they walked was pretty enough to be straight out of a snowglobe, but Cybele couldn't help checking over her shoulder. She thought she saw something move, this time. She stiffened.

"It's getting close to eight years," she said, which would have been enough to make her feel old any other time, but she was preoccupied. "I really don't trust this, Lysithea."

Lysithea nodded, looking over her shoulder again as well, pausing when Cybele did and biting her lip. “...Yeah. About the same for me ah...Maybe...maybe we should move a little faster? Or...run, even? Just...I’m more than a little spooked, and I really don’t say that lightly...I mean…”

It had been a big. Pale…something. A ghost?

At the very least...she was with another experienced eternal senshi...whatever it was, she was sure that they could handle themselves.

As the great, hulking Owl shot from the trees, giving a terrible screech into the night, Lysithea reached out and grabbed the hand of her new friend. “Holy s**t.” It was big, it looked as though the things claws could each hold one of them and there was no telling how much damage the beak could do.

“Run!” She began to sprint, tugging Cybele along with her, desperate to just get away from the beast.

It didn’t feel like a youma...it didn’t feel like anything...and that was what made it so frightening.

I am so, so sorry ;;

A flash of movement was one thing, cause for wariness but not concern. An owl that was easily five or six times the size it was supposed to be was something else. Cybele found herself staring upwards as its huge wings blocked out the better part of the moonlight.

Its eyes glinted, as did its talons. This thing could be dangerous.

She didn't ignore the tug on her arm, though. Lysethia was telling her to run. She ran. She ran as quickly as she could, keeping pace with the other senshi and kicking up quite the mess of snow behind her. These were not the right shoes for this weather, but she managed.

Still, once they'd covered a bit of distance without any claws ending up in their backs, Cybele slowed. She glanced over her shoulder again. The owl was not immediately visible, but that didn't mean much.

"I can't just leave," she said, very much in business mode as she glanced from tree to tree. "I don't know what that was, and I don't want it hurting anyone."

She wasn't sure if it was a youma, but this was Destiny City. Things were dangerous until proven otherwise.

Lysithea watched Cybele for a long moment, frowning at her words. “...It doesn’t feel like a youma to me, and if it’s just…some kind of a mutated wild animal, there’s really not much that we can do. If you want to stay, I’ll go and power down and call for animal control…but.”

She hesitated. “I won’t be any good fighting a real like…bird! I would feel bad.” Plus it was far too big for comfort, and the thought of getting those claws digging in her…

If it was a real creature, it wouldn’t even turn to dust it would just…die.

…And honestly, Lysithea wasn’t sure that she could handle actually killing something. “I really think that us leaving is the best thing to do, but I understand if you want to stay…”

Cybele would not have hesitated on fighting a real bird if she'd thought it was a danger to the community, but then again, she supposed there was not any proof that it was. It was just something she did not understand, and that alone made Cybele shiver.

There was also no way to fight it. The thing was long gone, and without an aura, or even footprints, Cybele couldn't actually track it.

She stared at the treetops where the creature had been for another moment, but there not actually anything to see there. The creature had seemingly vanished back into the night.

Slowly, she nodded. "All right. I'll leave, although I am sending in a report."

It might cut into her time of chatting with this sweet senshi, but at the very least, animal control needed to know about the existence of this thing. "I'll go do that now. It was nice to meet you, though," she said, even as she began to make her way, very slowly and cautiously, back towards the main part of town.

Although she did turn back for a moment with a final polite smile. "I hope to see you again, sometime."
