Quote: Rainfall is rare in Destiny City in the winter time. There have been a few light showers between the occasional snow but it’s never been enough to be significant. In some places, it’s just enough for a thin layer of ice to cover the ground and make it a little slippery, but ultimately it’s not enough to worry about. In an inconspicuous place in town, you step into an ice filled hole and it shatters. The hole itself seems maybe three feet wide and if you’ve ever seen the hole before you know it’s only a few inches deep at most. Except, when the ice shatters, you fall, plummeting as if into a lake of frozen water. It’s pitch black beneath the ground and only pale blue lights shimmer above you. The darkness around you is never ending and you can’t make out the details of anything except the shrinking hole above you. Maybe you remember how to swim and pull yourself out, maybe you black out and feel someone else pulling you out--either way, your frozen, soaking body is pulled from the puddle. The chill is immense, but if you look at the hole after being pulled out, all you can see is the ground below. There’s no sign that what you saw was real--except for the water soaking you. This evening had started well and given her numerous skiing trips it should have continued that way. However, for some bizarre reason when it came to ice in Destiny City the senshi had forgotten how to walk on it. Or, more to the point, as she continued to sink to the bottom of what was obviously a very, very deep crevice logic seemed to challenge how this was even remotely possible.
She had been walking on a pavement in the middle of a well kept area of the city. Had their been any sinkholes she would have assumed the entire place would have been cordoned off; yet when she had walked through there hadn't been a single indication that something was amiss.
Ah, must be the holidays right?
Her expression had creased into a frown and for a time the senshi had patiently waited for the magic to wear off. Eventually she'd resurface, right? It wasn't that far along and generally speaking when it came to seasonal insanity it got worse as the moment drew nearer, it didn't start with a bang so eventually the water would dissipate and she'd find herself on the roadside. Or at least this was what she had thought might happen and yet as the moments drew on it became quickly apparent that the 'hole' she'd fallen in to was creeping away.
By the time she had started to kick it was already too late, with scarcely enough air to even attempt to close that gap back to the surface, it was only a matter of time before everything around her grew dark and she, on the whole, grew still...

Despite the obvious magical abilities that came with being a Senshi, despite the power flowing through him from his somewhat recent upgrade, Zubeneschamali was still freezing his a** off while performing his duties in Destiny City.
It was blatantly obvious that his uniform was not designed for cold weather. The tight shorts, the bare arms, the bare belly, all of it was perfect for him to dye of pneumonia. And yet quotas still had to be met, and while he had so very little emotional loyalty to the Negaverse, he had seen plenty to convince him to, at the very least, do his job properly.
Luckily for him, his magic came with a pocket space, one that he stuffed to the brim with Extra coats and scarves and mittens. And of course, the moment he powered up, the layers he brought with him separately were quickly put on. Besides his obvious Chaotic Aura that emitted from him, there was no telling he was a senshi by the time he was satisfied with his layers of warmth.
Then off he went. Typical patrol, typical drainings, and apparently typical moments of watching someone, of the Order persuasion, suddenly disappear into seemingly nothing.
As far as he was aware, Order Senshi could not teleport. And what could he say, it piqued his interest enough to go investigate, taking his time to approach.
Huh.. A puddle.. And somehow he could see the girl who fell inside struggling to make her way out.
'Mali sighed deeply, feeling a migraine coming on quickly.
He was certainly no hero. He hated the idea of reaching down there and saving someone. But again, just as it happened before, the kind eyes of his dearest person came to mind, the look of disappointment on his face if he knew he simply left someone to die by some other way besides his own hand.
And now he groaned, before carefully pulling off his coat and reaching down into the puddle, wincing at the frigid waters. To his surprise, he easily reached her, and with a single, Super-powered pull, hoisted her to the surface and into his arms, soaking himself with the water that clung to her.
When he realized just exactly who he pulled free, he groaned.
"You... You dumb little girl... Didn't I tell you to be careful? Why are you falling into cursed puddles?!"

Colder and colder.
A deep emptiness, it was like that movie, would she be the next Jack Frost?
She gazed upwards towards the quickly disappearing hole and towards the moon that peeked just through the side. This wasn't quite how she'd imagined going out, given a choice it would have been a blaze of glory...or quietly and painlessly. Alas, it seemed her days were all but numbered and as numbness formed across her limbs she had almost come to accept her fate.
However it seemed that this evening fate preferred a different outcome, no sooner had her eyes began to lid than the moon vanished. A darkness fell around her, submerging her in utter black and then she felt it. Fingers curled around her bow and with one mighty thrust she found herself hurtling upwards and into the light.
A breathless gasp followed as she caught air and the astonished, wide eyed stare coupled itself with the otherwise blank expression of shock. Though her rescuer might have chosen to admonish her it was clear that for several moments she didn't have the capacity to respond. Instead, she simply slumped and shivered, she may have been slightly better dressed for cold weather but when coupled with freezing water it made for a deadly combination.
Eventually though, a spark of life did seem to peek through, that fiery nature that said rescuer might have seen before.
"I didn't exactly plan for it," she retorted through chattering teeth. "It wasn't there when I walked over it," she added.
"Death by pneumonia, hypothermia and drowning aren't really on my list of desirable ends," she finished, though she remained otherwise immobile.
There was however a pause before she turned her gaze upwards to peer at her rescuer, finally acknowledging that she knew this one. He seemed stronger than before, but his general demeanour remained the same i.e. he wasn't her biggest fan.
"Thank you."
Opposing sides they might have been, but he deserved her gratitude.

There were few times 'Mali would act kind towards someone. This particular situation would have been one of them, had the girl he saved dropped the biting sarcasm. While he had half the mind to shover he back into the puddle and be done with it, he simply chose to shove her off of him to the side.
"You'd think you'd at least keep your mouth shut long enough to catch your breath and assess the situation, rather than act like you have no sense at all." With a mighty roll of his eyes, he stood back up, gathering his coat. In that same situation where he would be kind, he would have draped the coat over the girl's shoulders. But he didn't. Instead he simply slipped it back on himself to fend off that biting sting of cold air.
"I would suggest you head home, or at least somewhere out of my sight, and off my radar to go dry off. I have learned that whatever state you're in while powered does not wholly transfer back to what you are when a civilian. Certainly you must have noticed that too? But secret identities in all that nonsense means you can't do that here, now can you? So go on then, scurry off and go get warm somewhere. Or would you rather power down here so I can pull that starseed right out of your frigid chest?"

It wasn't quite a glare, for all intents and purposes it was a somewhat blank expression that greeted him. If one were to be really pushed they might have picked up that she was non-plused. For all his threats he had chosen to pull her out, and more interesting, he hadn't even bothered to pull out her starseed when she was at her weakest... An opportunist would have made ample use of that and in doing so, ended her in one fell swoop.
"I have enough sense to know who you are," she replied calmly. Forcing down several shivers, the senshi did at least manage to push herself to her feet and unceremoniously removed her gloves. It wasn't perfect, but removing the wet material from some of her most tender points was one of the smartest ideas she'd had in a while. Still, he was right that she'd either have to undress in public (did this thing even come off?) or she would have to find a place to power down.
"I know exactly what type of situation I could be in," she added cooly and shook her head. "It's just prevented by what seems to be a sense of honour and some set of rules of engagement," she shook her head and eyed him thoughtfully.
"If you know you can win, then why give something the chance to run; sport?"
She would leave eventually, but she'd never quite gotten that answer from any of them before. Between those she'd fought and those who had vanished into the night without harming her, they'd all refrained from attacking outright, even when the opportunity struck and they would have won.

".. Do you ever seem to know when to close your mouth?" how could one girl be so damned annoying? She prattled and prattled and while he had just saved her, he was beginning to regret it deeply.
"What I do is none of your concern. Though as you said, you are at a disadvantage. So might as well put that to use." He wouldn't pull her starseed, no, that was effort, but giving her a swift kick to the chest and letting her tumble back into the puddle, that would be plenty. And so he did, taking the moment where she was distracted with her glove to give her a proper shove with his foot.

Patience was not his strong suit.
More importantly, it seemed that once again she found herself without an answer.
Whatever the motivation for some measure of compassion or 'honour', none of those within the Negaverse seemed inclined to explain it. She didn't know why, whether it was simply a game to them or if they maintained silence in case something or someone watched for them and thus her search for an answer in that great mystery would continue...at least for now.
Regardless, the Senshi didn't have much time to protest towards his sharpened tones. A familiar demeanour based on their previous encounter and at the back of her mind, perhaps she knew what was coming. The last time it had been an automaton, this time however...it was his boot to her back.
Unsurprisingly she careened back into the magically imbued puddle and plunged into the icy depths from which she'd come. Though this time not quite as shocking and she was swift enough to kick herself towards the surface rather than to dwell upon the events that had happened. Given that perception, whether depth or time seemed slightly different here, by the time she had managed to grab hold of the edges and pull herself out he might very well have taken his leave.
Yet another 'win' for blondie, it would seem.

By the time Adorea managed to clamor her way out of the puddle, Mali’ was already heading out. Surprisingly, it didn’t take as long as he expected. Of course he wasn’t going to simply let the girl drown but it was good to know she had enough sense to get out of the water.
“I hope you use your brain instead of your mouth this time.” He casually called over his shoulder, not bothering to turn around to look at her. What could she even possibly use to try to stop him anyway? She was weak and young and pathetic... And perhaps someone who would die sooner rather than later.
“Get out of here, Adorea. Next time I won’t be so kind.”

Always one for the last word, eh?
It was to her advantage that she had already expected her 'hero' to have long since left the area as she hauled herself out of the puddle of the second time. For all intents and purposes she had tuned the rest of the world out as she righted herself and tugged off her remaining glove. When it came to her current state, distraction was no longer going to do her any favours and if she remained wet and cold she was going to end up in a much worse condition than she was now.
Thus, she didn't even acknowledge Mali as she forced one foot in front of the other and made slow progress in the opposite direction. When she found somewhere moderately safe to transform she could only hope that her current 'state' went with it and left her in a warmer state. At the very least she would settle for 'mostly dry' and drag herself home to warm up properly.
He would be one she would be giving distance to in the future; even she could see that the cruel and arrogant streak was deeply embedded. Perhaps he was one of the ones who was simply meant to be there, there was no saving those so deeply entrenched...Playing with fires like him would simply lead to disaster. Should they ever meet again she would heed the warning, that, or she would have to ensure she was prepared enough to return the favour.
Nevertheless for the time being she'd been granted a reprieve and she'd use it... Philosophical debates could wait until she was safe and warm.
With the shock dissipating her pace quickened and soon enough she was out of sight. Mali would very much be left to his own devices for the rest of the evening and that probably suited him just fine!
