Moonbeam lay on her side by the pool, watching the water. Steam rose off of it in the early morning. The day was dawning peaceful, quiet and cool. That was until a huge sneeze ripped through the forest, right from Moonbeam's own nose. She shook her head, dislodging some snot. For the past little while, rumors of an illness had been quite persistent, but the Pool had been lucky, no one had become infected. Until now that was.
She let out a long sigh. Of course SHE was the one who had contracted this illness. And she couldn't just spend all day laying around until she felt better. ... Or could she? Things at the pool seem so quite right now, and nothing really needed her attention. Most rabbits seemed to be avoiding gathering places thanks to the illness, so there hadn't been many visitors ... She closed her eyes again. But just for a second. At least that's what she told herself.

 Nymph's Pool was hardly unknown among unaffiliated rabbits, but their inner workings were. No one seemed to know much about them, except that there were definitely a group of rabbits guarding the pool for some unknown reason, and sometimes if you left an offer you were graced with a gift. Beyond that, details sometimes got muddled and hazy. Some said they were all does, shunning bucks from the purity of the pool. Others had told her there was something magical beyond the pool, unseen. Dieti was utterly entranced by it all, tall tales or not. She felt an undeniable pull to visit them and see what it was all about. Though she'd never been to the pool before, she knew she was close when the air smelled moist and the sounds of trickling reached her ears. It was all so serene that the sudden sneeze made her jump, fur standing on end. "Oh, goodness," she replied, searching out the source. She found a rather miserable looking doe. "Are you okay? That startled the spots off of me." wc: 173

Moon Moon had woken up that morning with quite the sniffles. He hated being sick, but then again… who didn’t? He’d spent most of the morning lounging about in his den, feeling quite sorry for himself, until he’d finally decided it was time to be up and about as best as he could. There were… things to be done, and duties to be fulfilled, even though he didn’t totally remember what they were. The buck made his way to the pool, where he found his sister laying on her side, looking quite as though she had died. “Moonbeam!!” Moon Moon cried out in distress, bustling over. It wasn’t until she sneezed mightily that he was convinced she was still alive. “Mustn’t get too close,” he said, looking wide-eyed at the unfamiliar doe who was also by the water’s edge. “Looks bad.” Wc 141

She slowly peeled her eye open. It felt so heavy and sticky. Ugh, could these rabbits just not let her sleep! She glanced towards the initial sound. Some sort of visitor. Well, Moonbeam knew how to deal with that. "Y-you are welcome to visit our pool. My apologies for startling you." The doe took a deep, rattling breath.
She lifted and turned her head as she heard the heavy footfalls. Those could only to one rabbit. Her brother. From her rather muddy spot on the ground she addressed him. "I'm just enjoying the pool Moon Moon." Best to not be too dramatic with that one. She let out a sigh, and rolled laboriously to her feet. And sneeze again, disturbing a bird that had been perching in a tree across the pool.
She made full eye contact with this new visitor. "We hope you enjoy this place as we do. Just know, that you cannot stay unless you want to pledge yourself to it, as we have."

The sudden appearance of another rabbit startled her again. So many loud noises happening! She'd thought the pool would be more...serene. Still, she felt bad that the doe was clearly sick. She looked at the buck with gentle admonishment. "Tsk, she needs care, not fear. Thank you for your welcome," she returned to the doe. "You seem so sick, you just stay there." Dieti found the largest cupped leaf that she could and dragged a small amount of water from the pool to the doe. "Here, hydration helps." She sat back on her haunches now that she'd at least done something, and considered the does words. "I'm actually here because I feel a sort of call to this place? Everything I've heard just makes me so fascinated. What would a pledge mean? I'm Dieti, by the way." How rude of her, she'd almost forgotten to introduce herself. Moonbeam watched the new doe carefully. Resourceful. Calm. Hmm, this one seemed useful. As the cupped leaf was dragged towards her, she took a sip, feeling a little better and the cool water soothed her scratchy throat. "Thank you Deiti. I'm Moonbeam, and that's my brother Moon Moon." She slowly took another drink, regaining her composure.
"There is room for those that would like to pledge themselves to this place. But it does mean that you will be in service to the Pool, not the other way around. And there are sacrifices to be made. To choose the Pool you must choose to give up a family of your own. " She glanced at her brother. "Though to choose to be a Guardian you have more leeway. They are permitted to go out into the world as they wish, from time to time. Attendants, like myself, do not leave the Pool, because we have many duties to perform."
Looking the doe up and down again she nodded slightly. "Perhaps you would enjoy a life of service?"

Dieti pressed her lips together to suppress a smile. Moon Moon was a ridiculous name. Not their parent's favorite, maybe? She shouldn't judge, though. They were both very kind. She was glad to see the doe seem to perk up slightly with the water. Sometimes a little hydration was all it took to feel like a rabbit again.
She listened closely as Moonbeam talked and nodded along. She'd never even considered a family before, but now that the potential loss of one was on the table it seemed like a heavy weight. Was that something she was okay with? No children? Ever?
As she thought about it, she found that she didn't really care. Not having kits around didn't mean she couldn't care for others and care for a warren. She could have a purpose beyond family. A family beyond blood. She could find out more about the pool and why she felt so drawn to it and fascinated by it.
"I think I could make that sacrifice to stay here," she said confidently. "I feel like I'm supposed to. Do I have to do anything to be allowed to stay?"

Moonbeam slowly smiled. "No, that is enough. If you dedicate yourself to the Pool and to our ways you are welcome in our warren." Despite still feeling like she'd been pummeled by something, she straightened herself. "Welcome to Nymph's Pool, our newest attendant."
