For most people, what they see is what they get. He's cold, arrogant, and spoiled; having been raised by one of the wealthiest noble families, it's only natural. Jasper's parents have ensured he's never gone without want or need, giving him everything, so he has a strong sense of self-importance alongside a justified sense of invincibility. He'll throw quiet fits, oftentimes soon followed by acts of petty retaliation, when things don't go his way and make sure people know he looks down on them. Most say it's just how he is, but those few close enough to be trusted with his deepest secrets know it goes deeper than that.
The truth is, Jasper is scared. Scared of ever being vulnerable and at the mercy of others again. And, his unlikable attitude is a defense mechanism designed to turn people off of him. Jasper is asocial and distrusting of just about everyone in his life, his parents and a few close family friends aside. This is a byproduct of his childhood traumas, something he is almost unreasonably secretive of. Beneath his hardened exterior lies a lonely core that yearns to be free of the shield built around it. He used be a happy and adventurous boy that wanted to believe the world wasn't so bad, and somewhere, he wishes he could be that boy again. But, trauma runs deeper than dreams and wishes.

Jasper was born, nineteen years ago, to a struggling middle class couple. He lived in their care for twelve years. For those twelve years, young Jasper didn't know how hard it really was on his parents. They acted happy and pretended everything was just fine; and, of course, being the naive little boy he had been, he fed into their merciful deception with ease. They weren't struggling to the point of social demotion, so they were able to back up their act with the occasional shopping spree or random gifts. His life was a good and happy one, and Jasper believed firmly that the people that were struggling just needed to have hope things would get better while working towards that goal. But, reality brought it's hammer down on Jasper one day and spared no mercy.
In a single day, he had gone from the pride and joy of his parents to a bargaining chip that meant less to them than he was led to believe. They'd fallen on hard times and into horrendous debt. When they sold Jasper to guarantee their own safety and for the cash they would get in return, he's sure they hadn't intended things to play out how they had. They would keep him until he was eighteen and then ship him off to be sold to whoever's eye he caught. That, unfortunately, was not how things happened. When they offered him over to pay their debts, or at least as much as he was worth, he was taken then and there. Child servitude was, and still is, a very illegal practice. Something only the darkest members of society would ever even look at much less participate in. Jasper was thrust into a terrifying and horrific societal shadow. In the short time he was there, he had seen just how deplorable people could be and how very little people could think of others, even children.
Thankfully, for Jasper, he was not in that life for very long. After only a few months, the black market was raided during an auction after someone either let it slip or intentionally tipped off the authorities. Many of the children were far too traumatized to be properly rehabilitated, their trauma running too deep to even be erased with memory alterations, and they were humanely dealt with in what became the darkest act of mercy in the current century. For Jasper and the remaining others, things turned out better. Many were adopted into stable middle class families while others were set up in the city's most reliable childcare centers. Jasper was one of these children and lived a total of two weeks in his center before he was abruptly adopted by the Schiffer family, whose empathy had been triggered by the news of what happened. They opened their home, and inadvertently their hearts, to Jasper, making sure he had a safe and stable home to grow up in. The Schiffers worked hard to bury Jasper's connection to the event to protect him, going so far as to have as much of his former self purged as they could; physical and digital trails, his birth name, and even the worst of the memories were removed or hidden behind doors that very few can unlock.
His life as Jasper Schiffer hasn't surpassed the life he had formally, still being relatively recent, but it's been a good one. The damage has been done, of course, and has shaped him into the person people know him as, but he will never be spoiled enough to not take the Schiffers' care for granted.

Further unwanted attention warrants any number of reactions, the worst being him going completely limp and unresponsive.
tab ★ Small, cramped spaces give him anxiety as it triggers flashbacks of his childhood. He can deal with them for a very short time before he needs to leave.

tab ★ Jasper's scar is from a kill collar, an illegal device that was put on him when he was sold. It's no surprise a market dealing in illegal servants and pets would use illegal methods to "train" them. They used it once to scare him into obeying, but it was obviously not meant to be fatal.
tab ★ A couple of years ago, when he was seventeen, Jasper took a trip to the middle class sector of Targoviste out of curiosity and without anyone knowing. He found his birth parents doing well for themselves, and a younger sister they must've had after he was taken away. To say he wishes he could destroy their happy little world is an understatement, but he won't. Because the girl would suffer, too, and his resentment has nothing to do with her.
tab ★ Jasper's clothes are almost always sporting a KC somewhere plainly visible, something that people find strange. Instead of the logo for Schiffer Industries, when having his clothes tailored, Jasper chose something more personal to him. His birth name is Keagan Cassani.

tab ★ Bites his nails when his nerves are considerably spiked, but only ever really experiences serious levels of nervousness in pet centers.

Not out of malicious intent, but because the temporary detachment gives him time to get away from the constant supervision he's under. His parents are happy to give him these self-induced therapy trips.
tab ★ Jasper has sensitive teeth, so has a habit of letting his food and drinks cool or warming them up to avoid triggering pain. It is easily managed with good dental hygiene, of course.
tab ★ His "auto-pilot" and focused tunnel vision are notoriously difficult to snap him out of. Most people snap right out of it when they're spoken to, but Jasper is so good at tuning others out that anything short of physical contact goes unnoticed. Even waving a hand in front of his face isn't going to get his attention.

tab ★ Mudbath is Jasper's synth dragon, created with the scanned brain of his dog that died from a particularly nasty rat bite. She is intelligent, loyal, and fiercely protective. Sadly, Mudbath's new body doesn't actually fly (she can glide, however) or have any fire breath functions, but that doesn't take away from her uniqueness. Jasper is the only noble to have a synth animal pet with this particular model.
tab ★ The Schiffers' personal living quarters has no pets or servants. While his parents certain own a few, they are not permitted to set foot in the main housing area out of respect for Jasper. Likewise, Jasper avoids the pet house like the plague. This rule extends to guests; they can bring their pets, but they're not allowed in the main house.

Schiffer Industries is an advanced bio-engineering company specializing in genetic modification. Their main offers are aesthetic modification and embryo customization. While aesthetic modification is relatively affordable, available to nobles and middle class citizens alike, embryo customization is much more expensive and exclusive to nobles only. So expensive, in fact, that most nobles are turned off by it. Schiffer Industries keeps a very thorough record of their patients, ensuring that any self-induced mods do not fall back on the company, and patients are required to sign waivers absolving the company from any responsibility should the near-irreversible mods later be a point of regret or bitterness to make legal action against them impossible.

ᴇᴍʙʀʏᴏ ᴄᴜsᴛᴏᴍɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ★ Schiffer Industries' second well-known service. Embryo customization is a very long and complex process, involving the careful mixing of DNA and growth features. Those born from embryo customization are, for all intents and purposes, not human and their modifications are completely functional. An embryo designed with cat features will have an easier time seeing in the dark or have better agility than others and vampire modifications will result in a necessity for blood as a part of a healthy diet. Due to the lengthy procedures, there are very heavy risks involved. The embryo could react negatively and be "miscarried" or the child could develop unforeseen health problems or behavioral patterns later in life. This is why embryo customization is as expensive, and rare, as it is.
