Make a snowflake using the Classic Paper and/or the Online Program method. There are three different categories:
Classic Pattern, Holiday Symbols, Miscellaneous
Each participant may submit a maximum of 3 different snowflakes. Participants can submit one snowflake per category or multiple snowflakes in one or two categories. Each participant can only win one prize. Snowflakes will be accepted from December 13 to December 26 (Pacific Time). There are two anonymous judges who are not members of the NSTG. If there is no consensus or a tie, a third judge will be requested. Tip: Thinking outside the box may help a snowflake stand out during judging. There are lots of holiday and non-holiday symbols and media sources to draw inspiration from.
Two methods for creating snowflakes:
Traditional Paper
Grab a piece of paper Fold it according to the tried-and-true method or try something different Cut off pieces of the folded paper Unfold the paper Take a picture of the final snowflake and post the image/link in this thread
Online Program
Find a program that makes snowflakes (e.g. SnowDays, Paper Snowflake Maker, Make-A-Flake, etc.). Paper Snowflake Maker can be used on phones, tablets, and browsers without Flash. Tips and how-to's for the three programs previously listed are available in this post. Design a snowflake using the program. If the program provides a link to the final snowflake, users can post that link in the thread. Alternatively, take a screenshot of the final snowflake and post the image/link in this thread.

General Tip: Most programs take a bit of practice. Try out a few different programs and decide which works best for you.
Polygon mode unchecked allows freehand cuts. Hold the cursor down to start a cut. Move the cursor to make the cut. Continue to hold the cursor down until the cut is completed. Polygon mode checked makes straight lines. Click once to start the cut. Moving the cursor creates a dotted line. Each time you click, the line ends and you can make a new connecting line. Double click to complete the cut.You can start a cut in the middle of the paper and in the space outside the paper. There is an undo/redo button. If you create a complex design and then attempt to cut off part of the edges, sometimes the program creates the inverse version of the cut (what was paper becomes cut space and vice versa). To avoid this, make large edge cuts first, then make small detail cuts. You do not have to provide an email address to submit the snowflake even though the information box has an email option. The website provides a link to share the snowflake; after clicking the link, move your cursor over the marked snowflake as it falls. Alternatively, you can provide the snowflake number (13651034).
Participants on mobile phones/tablets can make snowflakes with this program.Click once to start the cut. The starting point is marked by a green circle. Each click after makes a straight line marked with a red circle. The cut ends when you click on the green circle. You can start a cut in the middle of the paper and in the space outside the paper. There is an undo button. The make snowflake! button lets you preview the snowflake.Saving the snowflake to computer may not work properly. Take a screenshot if the save option doesn't work for you.
The trick is to start cutting right at the edge of the snowflake. The small red circle in the middle of the scissors turns green when you can start cutting.Click once to start the cut. Each click after makes a straight line marked with a star. The cut continues until you reach the edge of the snowflake. There is an undo/redo button.Participants can post the link to the PDF image and/or take a screenshot of the snowflake preview.
Other
There are lots of other snowflake making programs available. Feel free to share your favorite programs.
