On the way home Alexandre had decided to stop by the grocery store, wanting to pick some thing sup for dinner, he'd had to hurry due to the chill in the air and the light rain starting to fall. He was hoping to avoid the real bit of rain which he was sure to come soon, there was no way around those dark gray clouds in the sky. It wasn't cold enough for snow, at least not yet, but the clouds were heavy and ready to drop whatever they carried.
As he parked outside the house, right to the curb, he hurried out of his car and grabbed the grocery bags from the passenger seat, and floor, before heading for the front door. Key out and slipping into the keyhole he unlocked the door. Turning to doorknob he stepped inside as he pushed the door open, already starting to toe off his sneakers. The grocery bags set onto the floor, where Cadha would no doubt sniff at them, he went to remove his coat and hang it on the hook it typically hung from. He was starting the process of settling in and getting comfortable from being out all day, it would be a bit longer before he was fully settled into being home for the day.

Aiden had been upstairs in their shared bedroom folding one of the last shirts he had in his drawer and putting it, along with the others, in a large black travel suitcase. Over the last few weeks he had been systematically removing his belongings, starting in rooms Alex didn’t frequent then working his way into the common areas of the house. It was easier this time of year with the holidays and decorations; most things went into storage anyway to make room for the candles, garland and the soon to come Christmas Tree. Riley looked up at him, head leaning from side to side he whined knowing that something was wrong. Even when the front door opened and Cadha ran downstairs to meet Alex, he remained by Aiden’s side and eventually jumped on the bed to lay his head on the closed suitcase. “It’s ok boy.” The handsome brown Chesapeake bay retriever looked up at him with a worried expression. On one hand he wanted to bring Riley with him, especially since he was his dog, but to take him from the only home he knows, away from his friends and family, and force him to stay alone in an apartment while he was at work was just too cruel for him to do. Aiden leaned over and kissed Riley on the head. “You didn’t do anything wrong. C’mon, see me to the door.” He snapped his fingers and Riley obeyed, jumping off the bed with a thump he walked to the door, tail hanging behind him.

The sight which came down the stairs was both wanted and unwanted. He was happy to see Aiden, prepared to make dinner for them both tonight, but the suitcase was troubling. "Aiden? Is something wrong?" Assuming something may have happened, rather than jump to where his mind wanted to go. He had been trying to patch things up, to fix things, so there was no way this was what it seemed to be.
Something had to be wrong and Aiden had to go somewhere - for a short time. Moving to pet Riley on the head, leaving Cadha to his inspection of the grocery bags. As he stood, from where he'd bent over to pet Riley, Alexandre settled his eyes onto Aiden.
Something was wrong - felt off. This didn't feel good...not like Aiden was just going to deal with something. The air felt so very wrong as he stood staring up at the other. "Aiden?" Reaching for him, but his finger tips hesitating just shy of touching the others cheek.

The hand at his side flexed, but otherwise, Aiden remained unflinching when Alex reached up to touch his cheek. Years ago he would have taken that hand and held it to his face or kissed his palm affectionately. But those days were long gone, lost to a sea of lies and web of secrets. Aiden gazed down at Alex with a dispassionate unblinking expression “I wasn’t expecting you to come home early,” let alone on time especially after what happened in the shadow realm. After big events like that, Alex had a tendency of staying out late. Then again so has he in more recent months.

"I'm...sorry?" Was he supposed to be sorry for coming home on time? To seeing this? So he was supposed to come home to a mostly empty house. Katya, who he noticed in the background, seemed a bit surprised even. She had been busy, like he had, and likely hadn't seen anything in order to warn him. Maybe she had though...
He'd talk to her later...alone, which seemed like it wouldn't be too hard to achieve provided his cousin wasn't home any time soon. How was he going to explain this to his cousin? Well...shouldn't be too hard, right? The truth would work and then keeping his cousin from getting upset, on his behalf, it wouldn't be hard in the long run.
"You were going to leave and not tell me....is it easier? Or did I earn that?" He questioned as he pulled his hand back to himself and let it rest at his side. "I thought we were doing better..." His hand raised and fingers ran through his hair, loosening the hair band he kept it back with.

“The only thing we’ve done is to put a bandaid over the problem, but nothing has been getting better.” His words were calloused but it was truly how he felt. If anything their problems have just been festering beneath. “This isn’t something new, it’s been going on for years.” Aiden sighed then, with his free hand, pinched the bridge of his nose to stymie the headache that was about to come. “I’ll admit, I was happiest when it was just the two of us. But I also know that this is your house Alex, I have no say in what happens here. Just because we share a bedroom doesn’t mean I can dictate who you bring into your home, case and point Hux.” He had no real problem with the man but it wasn’t like they spoke all that often. Neither friends nor enemies, they simply just existed under the same roof. “I didn’t even get asked my opinion and was expected to be ok with it. He’s your cousin, even if I wanted to I wouldn’t say no, but it’s the principal of the matter.” The least Alexandre could have done was discussed with him what the plan was or give him a timeframe for these changes. “If that was the only time then it wouldn’t be a problem. But either I come home and you have several cars outside and a group of people over doing who knows what, or you’re coming home late oftentimes injured.” There were a few nights at the start where it had been the other way around but after seeing how worried Alex had been when he came home because the General had cut him across his face with the tip of his spear, Aiden set aside his duty and obligation as Slidr to avoid bringing his boyfriend into this ludicrous war they were enthralled in. “I’m tired of waiting for the last person to leave so I can finally come inside.” Yes, it has been a while since the last time it had happened, but it was simply something he couldn’t let go. “I’m tired of pretending things are ok between us. I’m not a novelty boyfriend that you can just stick on a shelf and forget about.” His own thoughts or concerns were rarely taken into consideration unless Alex was feeling particularly lonely and wanted to spend time with him. Even then that time was fleeting. ”For the times you and I do spend together you end up getting pulled away for some God damned work reason. Hell, I’m honestly surprised that you didn’t just ditch me in the Shadow realm with that dragon.” Aiden’s lips pressed into a thin line. What he said was downright hurtful and it was all he could do to maintain his resolve. Alex had saved his a** more than ones in that hell hole, but a huge part of him wishes that he hadn’t. He should have just put an end to this, let him fall into that crevasse and got out on his own, then they could have avoided this moment all ******** hell, why did he have to come home early?

As much as the words hurt, and they did, he knew Aiden was telling the truth. Alexandre also knew he was to blame really, he was the one secret keeping, he had dealt their relationship the injury and Aiden was just putting an end to the suffering even if it was painful for them both. He knew he shouldn't have gotten involved and yet he had, he hadn't been able to help it - he was human.
"I know - and I should have." He really should have, it was just one in a series of mistakes he'd made...things he'd done wrong. There was no way though to go back and fix most of them - to undo them. He couldn't have had the talk about his cousin after the fact and he hadn't really thought about it, and perhaps he should have, but perhaps he was just bad at relationships? He'd had how many over the years...and all of them had failed. Most of them failing due to the secret he carried...so was this any real surprise? "I'm sorry I didn't ask...that I just assumed." At least he could say that, right? He couldn't explain the big issue so if he apologized for the little things maybe this would hurt them both a bit less? Alexandre knew there was no way of fixing this, of keeping Aiden, this was the end and it hurt more than any wound he'd suffered. Physical wounds you could heal from, grit your teeth and tolerate the pain, this there was no real way to just deal with it. It was going to hurt and it was going to last awhile.
Maybe it would teach him a lesson? Keep him from seeking out a relationship, or agreeing to one, for a while? He'd hurt them both and he was honestly more sorry for hurting Aiden - he deserved better...he should have known from the start about the Negaverse and he should have done other things - a lot of other things.
"I-" What was there to say? Aiden shouldn't have stayed outside and waited. He hadn't known that Aiden had known, he'd tried his best to arrange things when Aiden wouldn't be home. He just hadn't wanted things elsewhere...where it might look like he was off with someone behind the others back. Instead he'd done just as bad - damn it. "You should have come in - it was your home too." Was...wasn't any more. Had it ever been Aiden's home? When had it stopped being his home?
As much as he said Aiden should have come inside he was sort of glad he hadn't, he didn't want to drag the other into his life...to put him at risk. He didn't want to have to corrupt him either.
That hurt - that hurt a lot. That Aiden would think he'd just leave him there...to face that. Shaking his head, ignoring the sting in his eyes, he bit down on his bottom lip before speaking. "I wouldn't have left you there. I'd have done anything to make sure you got out of there." Ahead of himself. At least he could fight...Aiden was important, and innocent in this war.
"You have a place to go? I mean if not I can leave for a bit - give you time...as much as you need." He could go somewhere, his parents if need be, he wasn't going to let Aidne just leave with no place to go. Alexandre didn't know how quickly this decision had been made, if Aiden had planned for a while and found a place. "I can help...if you need to." Even if he hurt, even if the words stung and ate at him, he would help. He wasn't going to let this end worse than it already was. He'd help if he could...make sure Aiden was somewhere safe...somewhere away from himself - because he was dangerous.
He hadn't always taken into consideration the others opinions, he wasn't used to it even now, but he still loved Aiden and wanted to see him doing well and living well. He just hoped Aiden understood, without knowing how much it hurt, and would go to him if he needed anything - he'd always have his back. He could be good at that, even without Aiden knowing, he could keep him safe in this war...his biggest protector.
"I want you and Riley somewhere safe and comfortable." Not thinking for one moment of the two being separate, they belonged together.

“I’m not going to chase you out of your own house, Alex.” His lips pursed into a thin line, clearly displeased by the even mention or idea of it. “You’ve been kind enough to me in the past; offering me a place to live and bringing Riley into our lives.” At the sound of his name, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever’s tail began to wag excitedly. “But I … I'm tired of being kept at an arms-length away. Which is why we can’t continue staying here.” Sometimes it made it feel like they were strangers sitting across the table from one another. “I put in an application for an apartment yesterday and will be staying at my parents until I hear back.” His old room had been turned into a guest room and while his father still hated him with a passion, it beat living on the streets. Thankfully his mother and sister, Jenna, loved Riley and would help watch him. It would suck having to share walls with strangers again but it wasn’t too long ago that he was living in the dorm. At least with this living arrangement, he didn’t have to worry about sharing a communal bathroom with anyone and had his own kitchen to make food in. It would be a far cry from what he was use to here but he was a survivor and would make it work somehow.

Where he would have said something, perhaps argued that Aiden wouldn't have been chasing him from his home, he didn't. Aiden's tone of voice told him enough - told him not to. He just wanted to make sure Aidne had his feet under him. Even if things were ending, and they most certainly were, it didn't mean he didn't care and didn't want to best for Aiden...because he did, and he figured he always would. it was why he'd tried to keep him out of the war and that part of his life.
Nodding his head, slowly, he couldn't help but smile at the dog. He looked so damn happy, despite what was going on around him, he really was a good dog. He was happy he'd gotten him for Aiden, really he was, he'd been happy to bring the dog into their lives.
"Alright....so long as you have something." He didn't know what to say, chokes on his words, and took his time. He didn't have a relationship to save but he didn't want to make things worse either, he needed to be honest at the same time though.
"I'm here if you need anything - no matter what...I'm here." And he would be, even though he knew Aiden wouldn't take him up on the offer and seek his help. "I still care....even if I showed it in the wrong way." And messed things up, while thinking he was doing the right thing. "I want what's best for you and Riley and so long as you both have a roof over your heads and are happy I am too." Even if it wasn't here - with him. He and Cadha would manage - they had to. This hurt, a lot, but he'd keep it in as much as he could till the two left...he'd make it work.
"Do you need help now with anything?"

Aiden clenched his jaw to keep from making another assholish remark and drew in a deep breath. He could tell that his words had hurt him deeply, however, despite the emotional pain he had caused, Alex was being sincere in his offer and that. “No,” he stated simply and shook his head. Even though the house was warm, Aiden felt cold to the bone. Emotionally numb to the point of almost shivering for how much of a frozen heart he seemed to have. Out of concern that Alex would try to convince him to stay, he turned around and walked over to the coat closet where he kept Riley’s leash. “C’mere,” he patted his knee and the dog came obediently. With deft hands, he clipped the leash onto the dog’s collar then grabbed his coat from the closet. “I’ll let you know when I’m ready to move my belongings so you can be here to let me inside.” His own keys were set on the small wooden table beneath the wall decoration, this was not his home anymore, there was no reason to carry them with him any longer.

"Of course, I'll leave a key under the doormat for you then." In case Aiden didn't want to see him, which he assumed would be the case. It wasn't the fact he didn't think he, himself, could handle seeing Aiden after the break up - nope...it certainly wasn't that.
"We'll talk soon then." Though most likely they wouldn't, it would most likely be via text message.
"Be safe - you and Riley." He meant it, how could he not? That was what caused this whole damn problem...keeping Aiden safe. It cost him, a lot, but he'd kept him as safe as he could - right? Maybe he'd done some good then...even if Aiden didn't know it and even though he was hurting right now. The other was safe...he hadn't been brought into the war or used against him either, as he was sure some senshi or knights would stoop to doing.
