Everything about this day was absolutely awful. From being overworked and forced to stay late for a photoshoot, to forgetting to buy groceries… To being attacked by some random plant monster and being sliced up and drugged. And of course, the clashing of the two most important non-Lori people in his life ending with both being upset with him.
And, now here he was, finally getting checked out of the hospital with fifteen stitches across his body and pinpricks like scabbed freckles all over. Landry absolutely hated this day.
… A bit of that hate melted away when he was released and walked into the waiting area where they made Gryph hang out for several hours. While he knew the man said he’d wait, he really didn’t expect it, and felt almost embarrassed bandaged up like this. Landry was supposed to be the beautiful boy, perfect in all ways when it came to appearance, not this kid who was wearing this bloodied shirt with bandages all over.
“… Well. We can go home now, if you’d like..”
What was he supposed to think of the night? As Gryphon sat sprawled in a haphazard curl across three of the clinic's waiting room chairs (what did he care how much space he took up?), he still couldn't help but wonder what the heck had been going on before he showed up at Landry's condo. He propped an elbow on an armrest, settled his cheek in his palm, and piddled absently through news articles on his phone. Not his favorite pastime, for sure, but he didn't really want to come off like his head was 'so deep in the ground.'
And in the very next thought, 'Stoppit, don't be that way.' Because the how shouldn't really matter, in the face of all Lan's injuries, but blondie's weird explanations hadn't really been... helpful or believable, and Winter had been absurdly defensive. Just- why?
Landry wasn't the most open of people, sure, but Gryphon couldn't think of anytime where he'd asked something and Landry had refused to answer or said something that he would immediately perceive as a lie.
He just didn't get it. He didn't get it.
Winter had never come up in conversation before, only how Landry hated everyone and didn't want to do anything with anyone, and if he wasn't at school, he just wanted to be at home. Winter looked around Lan's age, though... Maybe they took classes together and Landry knew him that way, or... He didn't know. And it wouldn't even be so bothersome if it wasn't totally weird.
His gaze flicked up from his phone as Landry was led by a nurse back into the waiting room. And it was weird, Gryphon thought again, that whatever injuries he'd sustained from a plant had been so bad they had to come here... He tried to smile just the same as he stood to meet Lan and reach for his hand. "Ya, mate, I'll take you home. Did you... get any medicine we gotta pick up, or any er- Anything we gotta do to keep you right?"
Landry didn't simply take Gryphon's hand, but pulled his whole arm against him, using him for support and only wincing slightly as pain shot up his opposite side. He was more than a little ready to go home.
"No... It's alot less serious than it looks, I assure you. I just need to rest and take some over the counter pain meds... And keeping things clean. I'll be fine." It was clear he didn't look as fine as he was insisting. But it could be easily chalked up to exhaustion. By the time he was released, it was nearing two in the morning, far past the time he was typically in bed.
"... I'm... Gryphon, I'm so sorry to have put you through all of this.."

Gryphon's gaze darted after the nurse that walked Landry out, as if looking for confirmation regarding what his young companion was saying, but the woman was off to tend to someone else as quickly as she'd come. It did seem rather busy tonight... Lan wasn't the only one with a few scrapes and bruises, and Gryphon had heard talk of hallucinations flitting round the waiting room during his stay too.
He grunted, pouting down at the blond boy as Landry snatched Gryphon's arm to himself. They were supposed to have had dinner together and slouched around on the couch and... Instead, all of this was a huge stretch, and the rest of the night earlier hadn't exactly been...
Well, it hadn't been what he'd planned for, at very least.
But there wasn't anything to do about it, now. With a soft sigh, Gryphon leaned, threading his free arm around Landry's back as he touched lips to his ear. "I could carry you?" He offered in a rumble.

"... Would that make things better?" He whispered back towards Gryphon, forgetting that embarrassment. Perhaps it would be better for him, yes, but Gryphon... There was a lot to unravel between them, and even he knew that there was somehow a breach of trust between the two.
Magic nonsense or no, he neglected to talk about knowing someone... And with the way things went, he would have to be blind to think he couldn't assume something along the lines of 'cheating' was going through the larger man's mind right now.

"'Better?'" Gryphon blinked, canting his head in confusion at the younger man's whispered words. "I guess it might? If you were hurting and didn't wanna walk, I wouldn't mind, y'know? I figure you're slender enough shouldn't be too much trouble, if you wanted." He supposed he hadn't given much thought to that Landry might not refuse, though. The blond was kind of a proud man, and most of Gryphon's experience with him hadn't involved Landry being insanely, immediately thrilled by being handled too much.
Though they hadn't wheeled him out in a chair, so the nurses must not have thought his injuries were terrible.
"Should I just bring the truck around?" He prompted. "You could wait here and not have to walk al'way across the parking lot. Wouldn't have to embarrass His Majesty by giving him too much attention in front of all these old folks out getting their flu shots." It was a tease, of course. There weren't actually any old people in the waiting room this late at night. That would be nonsense.

"No, that's not what I meant at all. I mean, better between us..." Landry couldn't bare to turn his gaze back towards. It felt far too awkward to be standing here so helplessly.
He was honestly forced to rely on this man. Everything was left at home when they left in such a rush earlier, and he was beyond exhausted. Whatever drugs they had been pumping into his system to ease the pain numbed his mind as well. All that really remained was the unease that came from how upset Gryphon seemed to be earlier.
Who wouldn't be upset though in this situation? Finding the person you would assume you were close to in such a precarious situation, another man above him didn't offer any good thoughts...
"I don't... I can't explain this unease I feel right now. I don't care about the embarrassment, or the attention or anything of the sort. I care about you, and how you're feeling... But don't mind it too much, I have enough strength to get to the truck atleast..."

"Ah... Still dunno what you mean, really..." Gryphon admitted noncommittally, sunny gaze dropping sidelong as he ran a hand through his disheveled curls.
Except of course he knew.
Landry had explained that an alien plant had attacked and injured him. He'd reasoned that Winter was an old friend who'd been caught in a similar situation and had been trying to help him. The younger man had insisted there wasn't any hanky-panky going on between them. And Gryphon knew that it would only barely be his business even if there was. A handful of kisses and touchin' in the back of his truck didn't make Landry 'his.' He hadn't expected it would.
But the situation was bizarre. Downright unbelievable at its worst, and Gryph wasn't sure why Landry couldn't just... come out with what was really going on and not be so weird and secretive about it.
"A'right, well, if you're okay to keep walking, let's at least get you home, then," Gryphon suggested in a rumble as he used the hand at the younger man's back to guide him forward and past the double doors. "I'll get you set up at home and head out, I guess. You're prolly tired, and you can just call later, if you need something."

"What do you mean you don't know what I mean? I thought I said it very plainly." What normally would have been a tinge of annoyance sounded far more pathetic than he had meant. Almost a whine as the drugs held onto his system more than he would have liked. Luckily for him, it did mean it dulled the embarrassment that would have come with it.
The clinginess, however, that seemed to grow as he dug his heels in to stop himself from moving any further.
"What are you thinking? Are you upset at me? Is what we have between us, whatever this is, in danger because of what happened...? I told you the truth, and I thought that was what was supposed to happen in these situations in order to prevent hurt feelings... Was I wrong?"

"I dunno?" Gryphon grumbled as he pressed a little more insistently to move them out of the building and into the parking lot, under darkness of night, away from nearby ears of others still in the waiting room. "Guess I was just wondering why you think me carrying you would make anything better between us, when there's not no reason for anything to be-"
Landry dug in his heels and pulled to a halt, and it was only a huge matter of self control that Gryphon didn't just pluck him up and move them along anyway. It wasn't like one doped up skinny blond boy really had the mass to keep them from moving.
His bottom lip jutted out. "I'm not upset at you," Gryphon retorted, fingers still pinched loosely at Landry's hip. "Least I ain't got a reason to be. We've been on dates, but we're not dating. And even if we were, you can have friends outside of just me. I don't gotta know who all of 'em are, or where you met 'em, or what your history is." He'd worried that His Majesty was suffering in solitude, after all, so to hear that such was not the case should've been a relief...
"Just that this time... it was supposed to be us, y'know?" He grumbled, glancing up toward the overhead glow of one of the parking lot's light posts. They were supposed to have had dinner together. That was why Gryph had shown up at Landry's place at all.
"An' maybe it was just bad luck or an accident or whatever that you and someone else were... doin' whatever it was you were doin.' ...But it didn't feel like it."

”Why are you lying to me? You talk and you talk and you don’t often keep your thoughts to yourself, but now you are, and i don’t understand why.” None of this made sense to Landry, who was struggling to just say anything at all.
But if Gryphon wanted to be stubborn, well, so could he.
“What do you mean, we aren’t dating? Were you expecting me to say it out loud? Did you ever ask? I thought by the very definition, if you’re on dates, you’re dating, are you not?” He would have been absolutely flabbergasted at the very thought that Gryphon had assumed he wasn’t serious about any of this at this point, but... He could admit, he wasn’t the most clear himself.
... And then it clicked.
Gryphon was jealous. Over what, exactly he was unsure, but everything pointed to jealousy, and disappointment. Perhaps a little irritation too.
“... I think we need to sit down and have a proper talk... Everything’s been moving far too fast tonight, and I feel awful... But I can say this. I was out getting groceries. You know I do this, you know I bake, you know I don’t cancel plans once I’ve made them. He happened to be there, and we went through the whole plant thing together. He’s been dealing with this whole crazy Destiny city nonsense for a lot longer than I have been, so.... We were in the same place at the same time.” He paused, sighing.
“... I could say perhaps it’s thanks to you I managed to have more friends. I go out more rather than just sitting at home and getting stuff delivered. I wanted to make an effort to be more comfortable outside... Did that backfire?” Landry’s head began to hurt more and more as time went by, and he could feel the dizziness starting to settle back in. How could he do anything besides place more of his weight against Gryphon’s side?
“Do you wish me to say it then...? I like you, Gryphon. I fully intended this night to be one simply between us. I didn’t want all this nonsense to happen.... But... It did, and I don’t want you to be upset about something I couldn’t avoid... I’m... Well, I’m sorry it happened at all, and that I ruined this night by my careless actions... What can I even do to make this right?”

"Oi, Lan, can you stop being a brat and just get in the car?" Gryphon grunted as he gave the smaller man a slightly more impatient nudge in the right direction. It wasn't like it was his favorite past time to be arguing with Landry out in the middle of a hospital parking lot at night. He didn't even really know why it was an argument at all. "'Fore someone thinks I'm stealing you... Again." With that said, he didn't leave any more opportunities for Landry to just decide he'd rather be out here for some reason.
He opened the door to his truck, helped Landry climb up into it, and shut the door decisively behind him, fuming quietly over the accusations that he was lying or hiding things from Landry when he wasn't, as he stalked around to the driver's side. He had said how he felt, and it just made His Majesty get all defensive and irate like he'd been accused of something.
Gryphon slid into his seat, and the door shut behind him with a worrisome clattering sound. A low sigh dragged its way out f his throat, and he turned to the task of adjusting his already perfectly functional mirror.
"I didn't lie to you, and you can go on dates with someone you like and not be dating." He angled the mirror so that he could see Landry's face reflected in it. "I dunno what you have going on in the rest of your life. Obviously. But I do know I didn't imagine there being something between you and that other guy. Friends? Ah, maybe. But I'm not blind. Or deaf. Or that stupid. I saw him hovering over you, growling at me like he thought I was some kinda bad guy. I saw how concerned you were about him after he went and hid in the bathroom. And I could hear ya'll whispering together in the back."
He sat back, pulled his keys from his pocket, and started the truck. "Keep whatever secrets you want. I'm not your dad. Your whole life ain't my business. But don't accuse me of lying to you."

"... Fine." If he wanted him to be quite this time, he would. And he didn't argue against getting into the car, nor did he say anything when the door was near slammed after him.
Everything ached. Everything felt miserable, and if he were any more emotional of a person, he would find himself in a curled up bundle of tears with how badly everything of tonight was stressing him out.
What was he even supposed to say at this point? For once, he tried being honest too, but why was it backfiring? This was why he hated people in general, they just didn't make sense to him at all.
Even with the mirror angled at his face, Landry wasn't focusing on Gryphon anymore, instead looking out at the parking lot they were still in. For someone who had so insisted they got in the car, he certainly didn't seem to be in any mood to actually move yet.
"When I said you were lying, I only meant that you didn't say how you were feeling right away. You said you don't know how you feel, but you clearly do. You said you're not upset at me, but after all that, you are. It's like you don't even care that I tried to apologize or explain myself. ... It doesn't matter though. Like you said, you're not my dad. Anything I say will just sound like a lie to you anyway, so please, just take me home and drop me off, and that will be the end of it."
