It had been ages since she had come through the bone eater's well. She wondered how her parents were, her friends. Gods she hadn't been home in so long that they all probably she died. These thoughts came to the cream colored mare who stopped between tree to gasp.

"How many excuses can Grandpa give before someone even comes looking to make sure I am ok?" The thought out loud. "Their all going to think that I was murdered or something.

Stepping backwards a pace, Kagome shook her head against the thoughts of what awaited her on the other side of the well... That is if she were even able to return to her home, her family. Everything just seemed so out of reach at this time. Soon giving a sigh, Kagome headed out again, she had told Keade she would hunt for herbs. Once that bloomed in the rays of the dying light. Well that sun was setting and the demons would be awakening. She would have to work fast to find these herbs and return to the safety of the village.

Kaname stepped lightly through the growing darkness, groggy and lost. Again. It seemed to be a pattern since coming to this world, and not one he enjoyed. It might help if he had someplace to settle long enough to sort out his surroundings, even if only at night, but he had nothing to latch onto. Yuuki and Zero had also come to this world, he thought, but both had vanished shortly after arrival.

Zero would be all right, with the survival knack of a cockroach. But would his sweet and innocent Yuuki be all right? Would she survive without blood? Vampirism was, insofar as he could tell in this equine world, still a thing, a blight to be purged.

Zero would be helpful toward that end. He'd spotted another vampire hunter herd, but what he had gleaned dissatisfied him. They wouldn't kill all vampires, just the troublemakers; worse, they employed purebloods and mixed bloods with no promise of eliminating them, and were instead open to procreating with them. Kaname's eyes narrowed darkly. What sort of vampire hunters could they possibly be? The same sorts of fools who had kept vampires in check in his world? Some vampire hunters they must be.

More bizarrely about this world, there seemed to be other sorts of undead, such as mummies, and other fantasy horses, such as unicorns. What sort of fever dream was this world?

The sound of hoofbeats somewhere ahead drew him out of his reverie. Pausing and wishing he had not come to this world in the moon-bright uniform of the Night Class, he squinted in the still-too-bright light to see who might be coming toward him.

Another horse, female? With moon-pale skin and raven hair, with a green sailor collar draped about her shoulders. Was she possibly from his Japan? Or one very like it? She looked very like a Japanese schoolgirl.

"Konbanwa~" he called out softly in Japanese, hoping blindly that she would at least recognize the Japanese greeting. At least she would be someone to talk to, even briefly. If he was incredibly lucky, which he usually wasn't, she might have seen Zero or Yuuki.

It was a very small chance. But it might work.

Below it all was a very small thing he refused to admit.

The Ancestor of the Kurans was lonely.

The Ancestor could not remember the last time he'd felt this pang.

As the song had put it, "Who wants to live forever?"
