A'no was going over the Pernese Law and Diplomacy notes he'd taken. Hivapath was no where to be found, but he wasn't concerned yet. The brown often liked to lurk out of sight. The former miner found this class most enlightening. If you know the rules, then you'll know how to break them. A'no frowned at the thought from his dragon. No. I can prevent others from breaking them. He commented pointedly, suspecting the brown might be up to no good.

Hivapath harrumphed. He shifted his attention to the older weyrlings that were enjoying their first paired flights. So many options opened to him when he could fly with his rider. If you pull your nose from those parchments, you can watch the older weyrlings flying. A'no looked up. But it doesn't help me with my lessons now. We will get there when we are ready.

Well he'd tried. With this plan foiled for now, he turned his attention to other things. Hivapath wouldn't be this small for long and these avenues would be closed to him. He prowled down the corridors of the weyr, spooking the drudges when he appeared to pop out of a dark spot.

It was during this when something bad happened out in the weyrbowl and Hivapath felt one of the young weyrlings die. He keened for the loss of a fellow dragon as was proper, even if he didn't personally care about him. What happened?! His rider inquired urgently, confused. One of the weyrlings has died. Hivapath quickly slunk back to his rider and rested his head across the boy's lap. For now, at least, he wanted a little comfort.
