If he were completely honest with himself, Fettelite wasn't sure what happened at all. One day he was suddenly pulled into his General's office, and he expected the worst. Another beating, another session of pleasure, another thing that ended in pain. But that wasn't the case. There was a General King standing there, one he didn't know... And he was awarded.
Something about outstanding work at Witzend. Something about exceeding quotas and being an example to Negaverse agents everywhere. Something about not giving in to the Senshi threat, even at the cost of his own body. It was something to be awarded for and then the next thing he knew, he was powered up. His general had smirked at him once the General King left them, and locked the door, expecting proper 'compensation' for his approval. And that left him unable to walk for a few days.
But not today! Today he had his energy back, the strength needed to actually use this power and show it off and he was excited. Fettelite waited a little bit longer than he should have (Halloween was a killer, to say the least!) but today he was free and more jovial than he had been in a long, long time. When he woke up in his Barracks this morning, he immediately went to Wolframite's door, slipping a hand written note under it.
'I got something really, really cool to show you! If you have some time, please meet me in the training grounds around... Uh... Noonish! - Fettel'
Then off he went! First to check on his General (as he was expected to do every morning), and then off to work on little chores around the castle until the expected meeting time.
Once he arrived there, he was simply bouncing with excitement to show his friend his new strength, and the weapon they had been curious about before. Hopefully Wolf would be just as impressed by it as Fettel was!

Wolfy didn't get notes. He occassionaly got packages shipped to the Negaverse PO box that they could use when requesting items from online. Otherwise, he did not get mail. The barracks didn't even have mailboxes because those here usually didn't have much of a identity in the world or were considered dead until they were booked up with a fake identity and legal paperwork.
After working on moving some file cabinets in a few offices, he came back to find a little card on his floor. Reaching down, he picked it up and turned it back and forth a few times before reading it. Something cool? He wondered what Fettelite would find exciting enough to need a meeting line this? Maybe he'd have the obituary if his general from a rouge senshi attack last night. Wouldn't that be charming.
Curious, be went to take a shower and change into a new set of clothes before he grabbed a snack. Chewing on a piece of jerky, he meandered his way down to the training grounds. The rocky fields were empty asode from one person. A captain. He could feel them and paused, looking around to see if Fettelite was about and checking his phone. .he glanced at the figure further off a bit more as he waited, and then slowly noticed the uniform. It wasn't exactly unusual but it wasn't a typical black cute either.
He edged a bit closer, and the more the captain came into view, the move he smiled as he made his way over.
"Well look at you." He said, looking at Fettelite from too to bottom. "when the hell did this happen?"

"It's me~!" Fettelite exclaimed, doing his best to not just run over and hug Wolframite. The excitement that filled him was clear as day, a start change from the dark cloud that seemed to hang over him any other time he met up with the other captain.
He couldn't help doing a little twirl though, showing off his new uniform! It was certainly a change from the skin-tight shorts and vest he had before. At least he got to keep his hat, it was his favorite part after all!
"About a month ago! But I was um... Unwell, for a few weeks, and then that dang Halloween kerfuffle in the dark, and had to recover from that. But I'm okay now, and you are the first person I'm showing! ... Well, technically after my General, since he saw that, and Rako since he was the first to know when I popped into his apartment out of nowhere. Buuuuut yes! I'm a Captain now!"

"Unwell, huh?" He said with a air that wanted to press him on what that exactly meant. Considering what he was up against, unwell for the officer could mean many things. However, right now Fettelite was joyous over his promotion and honored him by showing him the change in rank. Right now was not the time to be berrating and scolding the officer for being unwell for over a month.
He watched Fettelite spin, clearly proud and happy for his new uniform "It's an improvement. The last uniform wasn't bad, but this was is nicer." It did still make him look like he should be on a soapbox shouting to sell newspapers but he kept that to himself.
"The Halloween fiasco was a mess. I'm glad you came out of it well enough." He didn't mention he had done not so well during the whole event and was glad Fettelite or Rak had seen him.
"Well. Show me the weapon reveal too. I want to see if it changed into anything I guessed." He said as he waited.

"Yeah just... You know, Rewards come with some sorta price, my general said. So I paid it after the promotion. But like I said, I'm all better now!" This was not the time to go into too much detail about it. After all, this was a happy time, not one to dwell on all the bad that came with it too.
As requested, Fettel summoned his weapon to his hand, nearly dropping it as he was still getting used to the weight.
"See? See, it's a hammer! And it's puffy too, see, like the pom-poms are! I wasn't expecting a hammer at all! It doesn't make alot of sense, but I really do like it!" He held out the weapon for Wolframite to inspect, seemingly very pleased with it's development. "I need to train much harder in order to wield it well! It's not all that heavy but they said it could get alot heavier if I ever make general, and my limp noodle arms won't cut it then!"

"Your general lied. Promotions are earned from being here and working. You paid your price to them. They just wanted to use it as a excuse. Promotions are meant to be celebrated and not taken as a bill that is due." He breathed out. "Watch out for that, and you know you should have reached out to me. If you don't want me to take the wounds, let me at least come over to make sure you are taken care of to help your recovery."
He would leave it at that.
Inspecting the hammer, he was mindful not to touch it. Some people were particular about their weapons. It was a decent size, much like a sledgehammer but with a much bigger head.
"You become physically stronger with each ranking. You'll find your strength is increased and you can jump higher as a captain. It can help to counter your weapon's added weight, but you will have to get use to swinging that thing. It's not a fast weapon and requires some time to get the momentum, but it sure will do a lot more damage then some small knives, that's for sure. You could knock a senshi out cold with a swing from that."
Straightening his posture, he reached over and patted Fettelite's shoulder. "Congrats. I'm proud of you. Now, we should celebrate your promotion. What would you like to do? Wanna go somewhere? Get something to eat? It's my treat."

Wolframite's words hit Fettel hard, and he visibly paled, eyes focusing hard on a particular spot on the ground rather than on him. His stomach did an unpleasant flip, he could feel shame and disgust with himself creeping along his skin. Whatever celebratory feeling he experienced before was quickly snuffed out by the lecture and scolding.
He could only nod quietly, and wait for the moment to pass.
Once it did, and Fettel felt that hand on his shoulder he managed to look up and give a small smile.
"No, no, we don't need to do anything to celebrate. It wasn't really earned anyway... I should just... You know, get right back into training..."

He could see the man visibly wilt from what he said and felt bad for mentioning it, but knew it had to be said then for him to run with the idea that his pain and suffering was right and deserved.
He set his other hand on the man's other shoulder and squeezed.
"Hey. I say that stuff because I don't want you to think that's the way it is here and because I want you to reach out when you feel unwell. Alright? I care and I want you to let me help."
He dipped his head down to crane to look at Fettelite's face.
"You earned this. You went through a lot to be here, and you should be happy. Now I'm going to hound you until you make a request and let me treat you and as you can see, I can hound a person pretty good." That was, in fact, a dog youma joke.
"You've been in the barracks a while. Is there anything you like to do and eat?"

"I don't really like to talk about myself, what happens... Or to complain. It's whining, and I don't want those thoughts and feelings I have to become a reason for someone to hate me, or to think of me as a whiner who complains about situations I got myself into.. So.. It's weird to me you trying so hard to make me change my mind... Since I didn't need to do anything immediately, I didn't reach out to you. I'm sorry, I should have, since that's the deal we had." It happened before with May. The way she and October looked at him whenever he mentioned anything was wrong at all.
It was like they hated him, that he wasn't worth listening to, and after years of treatment like that, it was hard to think of it any other way. Even with Nat, he kept his problems to himself, letting the man make decisions uninfluenced by December's words.
Was that lying? It didn't feel like it was, but if it made everyone happier and easier for him to be around, he'd do it.
For now, he smiled again, and just slowly shook his head.
"I really appreciate it, but you really, really don't need to go out of your way to 'hound' me about what I wanna do. I'm okay, I don't need to do anything fun at all.."

He removed his hands from him..
"You know, real friends are there for you for the good and bad. It's what makes things strong. To lean on someone when you need help and do that in turn. It's an even exchange. A give and take. I don't see you as a whiner. I see you as someone who has actual problems and thoughts that you need help with. There wouldn't be a deal if you didn't. But if it makes you feel better, put "listener" under my services of my all inclusive package when I signed up to be your protector."
He then thought for a moment as December still refused to make a decision. Maybe it was a bit too early to demand the man to think of something for himself. "I have some movies in my room. I can pop over to the store and get some food and come back. How about that?" He said as he leaned in a bit. "Unless you wanna go to the store with me. Have you teleportrd in your own yet?"

"Are we friends?" he asked softly, a little confused by that idea. Wolframite never gave off the impression that he was unhappy with their arrangement, but even after how they spoke about it before, it felt off. It was business, wasn't it? Even if he called himself a 'friend', that could be the same as when he was friends with Kelly, where she was happy to hang out with him, complain to him, but it still felt like he couldn't speak out about his own pain.
Real friends did that... He'd have to keep that in mind.
"I'll be sure to remember that." Remembering wasn't going to be a problem, but acting on that would take some time.
The movies sounded good though. And so did the food. Saying yes to the things offered came so much more easily than coming up with things on hi sown. After all, if the other person suggested it, they wanted to do it too!
"That sounds like fun! I can teleport, and I even make it to where I want to go without ending up somewhere weird. The first time was a mess, I think I ended up at the docks, but after that, I'm just fine with it! Do you know what you want to eat? Have you had Curry before? Jamaican or Indian? Those both sound really good right now too!"

"Well that all depends if you want to be. I don't have many but would like to be." He said. He wouldn't press it. He knew the situation was odd what with a deal bringing them together. Given the circumstances, he wondered if they would have ever talked otherwise.
The suggestion worked well and he was glad that Fettelite even came up with a suggestion if something to eat. It seemed he could think of something once you got the ball rolling. It was apparent that he had a hard time with starting but once you brought up an idea, he had something to hold onto and move.
"I never had curry. It is a good I have been meaning to try. I wouldn't know the different between Jamaican or Indian. We can get some of you know a place. If not, we can teleport together and find one."

"I do! I want to be your friend!" There was a vague memory of having said that before, even if he was full of doubt... He wouldn't think too much of it though.
Not when there was a promise of food, and of a safe place to watch something.
"The difference is the kinda spices you use. I'd go with... Well, it depends on how spicy you'd like things. I feel like Indian curry can go many more ranges of spice than Jamacian can, but that's just personal preference." When it came to food, Fettelite would always have alot to say. His tongue wasn't trained as a gourmet, but he knew flavors well, what stuck and what didn't. Even though it had been quite some time since he could actively make a large meal, his tongue was still as keen as ever.
"There's this place I used to go to called Spice of India that I really liked. We can go there! Ooh, and we can't forget the Naan bread either! I'm sure you'll really like it!"

"Are you dressed to go out now if powered down? We can go now if you like unless you need to change. I think if we teleport together, I can follow your lead to the location. Unless you like me to do that instead but I'd need a address so I can figure out a location I remember near it." He said, watching Fettelite light up at the me ruin if a specific food and resturant. It seemed perfect to make him consider his promotion a very good thing and not make him sink back into his usual self-scolding behavior.
"I can handle some spice but do not give me anything that could melt my face off. I don't want to breathe fire." He joked.

Was he....?
"Oh.. No, I'm not." Right now he was still in a scraggly shirt and worn gym shorts. It wasn't something he was really allowed to go out in any more, no matter how comfortable they were.
"It'll take me a while to get changed..." Teleporting back to Nat's place, changing clothes, coming back, explaining where he was going again.... It all sound very exhausting, but it wasn't as if Nat would stop him. "I can give you the address of the place if you'd like, but what should I do in the meantime?"
