Day Three: As if the shadows weren't creepy enough, now they seem to be moving, stretching beyond where the light shouldn't let it reach. In the afternoon sun, the shadows still seem to be climbing; darkness is spreading across the city unnaturally. More than that, now sometimes it feels like you are being forcibly grabbed, like someone is trying to drag you into the darkness.
Ever since Illyria had gone out with Kami that one night on patrol the young Mauvian had taken to trying to avoid the shadows. She didn't know what was causing the patches of darkness to appear more menacing than what they really were. 'C'mon, shadows can't hurt you.' Even with the little pep talk that she kept repeating to herself in her mind the feline was watching very carefully where she placed her paws. The whole idea that things got weird around Halloween was enough of a deterrent to stay inside but Illyria was on a very important mission. Or so she deemed it as such. There was treasure to find. Oh; not real treasure but to Illyria the idea of finding just the perfect rock was always akin to a treasure hunt.
Taking all due care the Mauvian wanted to shy away from the locals of the city and focus on areas where she would not be noticed as much. It just so happened that such a location was along the banks of a small creek that she often frequented. The creek would be low enough that she could walk along the side of the water and investigate the rocks that she found. Maybe she'd even get lucky and find a few rocks to add to her cache. It was a long shot but just maybe she'd find what she was looking for.
Picking her way across a field Illyria took in the shadows that seemed to lengthen and stretch their tendrils of inky blackness towards the sky but also towards her current location too. Hopefully whatever caused them to seem colder than normal had ceased. Steeling herself the young animal placed a single paw into the nearest shadow and sighed with relief before stepping all the way in. Noting that she was completely alone Illyria risked speaking aloud to alleviate the silence around her, "see, nothing wrong. It's just my overactive imagination. Shadows can't hurt you. I'm totally fi--"
As the word fine wanted to come out Illyria gave a small shocked yowl of pain. Something, and she wasn't sure what it had been, had actually reached out and grabbed her tail. Turning her head the feline took in the emptiness of the field and the shadows that completely covered her form before scoffing. No...she was just imagining it...wasn't she?
Another quick tug, this time on a paw had Illyria bolting so fast out of the patch of shadows before turning herself around and staring almost accusingly at the darkened field. Her thoughts whirled around before she scampered back towards the safety that the lights offered. Rock collecting would have to wait for another time. Ever since her patrol with Kami had the feline been wanting to experience the strangeness that Halloween brought to Destiny City ... but shadows that could actually reach out and physically grab at you was just too much to deal with. Was she going to mention this newest phenomena to Kami, she wasn't sure yet.
