Parks were a lot more boring when it started getting close to winter, Sylvite decided. Not that they were bad, really. There were usually still youma around, and different magical people looking for friends or fights, which was pretty much the most interesting thing you could ask for, but if you were like, sitting in a tree waiting for your trainee to show up so that you could start looking for said magical warriors, there wasn't nearly as much stuff to look at. The leaves were pretty cool. That was why she was sitting in this tree in the first place, her back pressed against the trunk and feet on either side of the trunk so that she was stable enough to look up. Still, it wasn't the same as the flowers in spring or the music from all those festivals in the summer. She was still in a good mood, though. She was getting another training session today, and this time instead of just going over the basics or talking about feelings they were going to get to work on her specialty. They were gonna get to do something fun, and from what she could see from up here, it seemed like the park was just busy enough on both the normal and magical side of things that it should work. Hopefully the guy would show up soon. In the meantime, a leaf fell right onto her face and she blew it away, giggling.

Before he had corrupted, Nataniel had deemed it beneficial to try and understand the perspective and logic of as many of those affiliated with chaos as he could. As a man who liked to make informed decisions and being in such a position that he was allowed to make one, rather than having a choice forced upon him, there hadn't been any other logical thing to do besides gather whatever information he could. It was only reasonable.
And now, as Rakovanite, the same logic held true.
There was less need for the 'why' of what made anyone else join this 'side' of the war, and now his focus was more on what areas he might excel in and under what circumstances. Much to his distaste, Rakovanite had already noted that he would need to branch out. He was not a socialite. So many of the niceties involved with making friends seemed tedious. Not beneficial when compared with the amount of effort they required.
But he needed to reach out and communicate with others so that he could learn. The Negaverse was an organization that seemed to rely on units and specialties within those units, rather than on the abilities of a single soldier.
Rakovanite was... unaccustomed to this in his real life. It made sense in his online games (and he did love his online games), but face-to-face interpersonal interaction was much less his forte. Despite this, after it being mentioned that he may benefit from contacts among each branch of the Negaverse, Rakovanite had to admit that this seemed logical. He knew only the barest bones information that was catalogued in the data pad regarding branches, but had still managed to have a meeting arranged with a captain from Information.
Being that he had no ability to teleport, Nataniel drove his motorcycle within near enough proximity to their meeting spot. He left the bike in street parking among a nearby shopping district, walked the rest of the way to the park, and powered up.
Immediately, he felt the aura of a nearby agent and moved in the direction could sense it from.
Rakovanite shouldn't have been surprised to see the girl in the tree, he supposed. It was a better vantage point than being on the ground, though... he did wonder why she was bothering with the leaves? His dark gaze trailed up the trunk to land on her, and when he spoke, his tone was flat. "Captain," Rakovanite said in greeting.

When Sylvite felt the aura get close, she swapped from lounging against the tree to sitting up straight and looking out with her dangling feet kicking faster and faster. It wasn't too long after that before he showed up. He was tall and he looked like he might actually be pretty fit under that uniform, which meant that there were pros and cons. The pros: Eye candy. The cons: He looked like an actual soldier, and those were the types that tended to be a little bit boring. He didn't seem to be trying to hard to break the stereotype, either, since he was already being all stiff and calling her Captain and stuff. Sylvite, on the other hand, smiled big and waved at him. "Lieutenant Rakovanite!" Then, she jumped out of her tree and into the three point landing that she'd been practicing lately. She felt like it really gave that superhero effect, and it did make her feel pretty cool when she looked up and said, "Hi! Did I say that right?" Then she stood up, brushed off her shorts, and held out a hand in greeting. Since she was Information now, and higher ranking officer, she was learning a little bit about formality. "So I'm Captain Sylvite, I'm gonna be doing your training today. It's nice to meet you!" She still preferred to get through any boring stuff as quickly as possible, so she was talking fast. "According to the paperwork you're pretty good on your basic training and you're here to learn some stuff about Information today, right?" She smiled even bigger at that. She did love her branch.

His dark gaze trailed after her motions as the girl jumped from the tree and landed at his feet. Rakovanite had once been told that the Negaverse actively engaged in recruiting children in their teens. They were more malleable while still possessing near the hand-eye coordination of someone fully grown. The practice wasn't the same as it once had been, but for a while, they had trained children for this war. He'd not been impressed with the information. Children were unpleasant. Hyper, loud, stupid, and worst of all: immature. He tried not to grimace at the captain's antics.
She didn't look much like a child, herself, but she still seemed quite young and very... pink.
"Your guess is as good as mine," Rakovanite replied with a shrug to her question about the pronunciation of his name. "It is as foreign to you as it is to me." Cavansite had been the first to use it, when she'd corrupted him, but it still meant next to nothing to Rakovanite, who saw little reason for the gimmick of their mineral names. "You can just use 'Rak,' if it pleases you."
"Nice to meet you," he parroted with the tiniest dip of his head, though his gaze remained unrepentantly fixed on her. "I am still learning, but it felt as though anyone looking for knowledge should probably start with... Well, Information."

"Rak," said Sylvite with a little nod. Then, she tilted her head. "Rack-o." Nope. That one was a game. "Van. Your name has a lot of really good nicknames in it, wow. Mine doesn't, really." All of the grace of a Captain leaping from a tree was gone, and the trying to be professional afterwards had only lasted like five seconds. Now Sylvite had her nose all scrunched up while she thought about her own name. Sylvite. Sylvite."You could do Sy, I guess, or maybe Sylve, that's cute, but at that point you only need one more syllable, so like, what's the point?" She gave the tiniest of sighs. "I guess Sylvite's kinda a nickname anyway." It wasn't a problem. She liked her name, and she liked the pretty salt sylvite, too, and it was at that point that she realized she was getting kinda distracted. She went full deer in headlights for a long second. She blinked. Whatever. She was the one in charge here, and she'd never promised she was gonna be all business. Soldier boy could deal. Shoulders squared and with a more relaxed grin this time, she said, "Yeah, Information's where all the juicy stuff is. There's variety, too. There's some really cool scientists and developers, and then there's people like me who try to keep a finger on what's going on in the actual city. I've been working on finding out exactly who the enemy is and what they can do." Her eyes hadn't really left his face this whole time, but now they narrowed a little as she really tried to size him up, to see if she could use her spy skills to figure out what he could do. He still looked really serious, which seemed to be true, and he still looked like more of a soldier than she did. That one obviously wasn't true. She was a good soldier. She did notice that he had fancy hair, which maybe meant that he wasn't quite boring, but she couldn't quite tell how trained he was. That meant question time. "Can you pull starseeds?" she asked. Her tone of voice hadn't really changed from when she'd been talking about nicknames. "That's gonna be important for tonight."

Though Rakovanite wasn't expressly opposed to people giving him nicknames (particularly where his agent name was concerned, as it hardly felt like his to begin with), he'd never been one to give them out. It seemed rude, somehow, as if the name they'd been given at birth wasn't good enough or convenient enough to use consistently. He liked his full name, even if it wasn't a choice he'd made himself. And some nicknames seemed... personal or intimate. He wasn't very good with 'personal and intimate.'
"I have not given much thought to other ways to say it," Rakovanite admitted with a hesitant shrug. "But 'Van' does sound nice... Preferable, even, to 'Rak.' I never even considered it."
He studied her with his head slightly cocked and gaze quizzical behind his glasses. She must like nicknames, if she bothered to talk about them so much upon introduction. "Would any nickname not be just one less syllable for you?" He prompted. "'Sylvite' is only two to begin with. Maybe you could be..." His dark red gaze slid away from her as he considered, voice lowering a fraction at the suggestion. "'Livi,' or just 'Liv.' They at least have less letters than 'Sylvite' does."
But this was not the topic of the day. It wasn't why he was here.
His attention flicked back up. Rakovanite's run-ins with agents from Information were minimal. He understood the basic concept of their role among the Negaverse, and could even see it being a point of interest for him. He liked knowledge, and such a thing felt scarce and ever-changing in this world of magic. He had to pry, even just a bit, and his typically disaffected tone took on just the lightest touch of curiosity, of eagerness as he did. "How long have you been working with Information? Have you found anything useful out? What happens when you do find something useful?" What could Information do with the knowledge they obtained?
His inhale was slow, steadying after the questions. "I have not had the opportunity to pull a starseed," he answered, voice flat again. "But if your question is if I am physically or emotionally prepared to, then yes."

Sylvite froze at the suggestion, blinking slowly, before her smile came back even bigger. Maybe mister stoic knew the value of a good nickname after all. Maybe he even knew a little more about fun than that! "Livi's cute," she said. "You can call me that instead of Captain, if you want." Any discomfort the girl had about formality didn't seem to reach over to business. If anything, she smiled bigger at the questions. She thought about summoning her little tablet, but no. This was her work, her stuff, her specialty. She knew it. She didn't have to read things off. She took a deep breath and squeezed her eyes closed so tight that her nose wrinkled. "Suttungr is the senshi of violence," she said. "He acts like it, too. He's just a basic but he's already super nasty, reckless and dumb and he'll break bargains and risk people's lives if he thinks he can get a single punch in on one of us." She stuck out her tongue for a second to emphasize just how gross this guy was. "There was one called Pavo who was a little better about listening and being smart. Her magic's mirages, it's all about trickery and making her look weaker than she is but I figured that one out." Sylvite opened her eyes and gave a smug little nod. "There's way more, obviously. There's Hydor and Cybele, knight weapons and water lilies and some weird space magic that protects a few of them, and that's just Order. I know about some fun projects the Negaverse has going as well." The more she said, the faster she seemed to talk until she stopped short for a full three seconds as she tried to remember his questions. "Oh, I submit reports on how I think it would be best to deal with people," she said. "It sounds a little boring but there are some really fun highlighters involved." She'd just gotten some pastel ones. Her next report was gonna be adorable. "Like I said, I like using starseeds for this. They make good bargaining chips, and it'll be good practice for you, too." Sylvite took a quick look around. The park wasn't too busy tonight, with the temperatures dropping and all, but that also meant that there would be less chance of too many people seeing them and freaking out. "Can you get me one?" She glanced over to him, her fact going just neutral enough to make it clear that it was more of a challenge, this time.

"I am... unsure if I should," Rakovanite replied even quieter than his usual tone, bordering on a mumble. As a man of satisfactory intelligence, he didn't find it especially odd that he could devise a name shortening, given a couple minutes to consider it. It wasn't usually what he dedicated any thought to, but not especially challenging. Though, using the 'cute' nickname was another matter. Rakovanite barely knew the girl beyond the scant few minutes they'd spent together, and it somehow seemed weirdly personal to address someone so casually, even with permission.
Not for fear of disrespecting her, but because he didn't want to imply that he was unduly comfortable with the girl, when she hadn't earned it. Rakovanite didn't need whatever additional awkwardness that would bring on. "'Sylvite' seems fine enough for now."
He blinked in confusion as her eyes pinched shut and her nose crinkled. It was an odd expression, and not one he'd been expecting. "Is something-?"
There could be something nearby that she sensed and he couldn't, or perhaps she simply had some kind of condition thanks to whatever effects chaos or the war had on her. Instead, Sylvite began to rattle of the names of order members she'd met and learned of, and Rakovanite let out a quiet sigh. "You have met so many already," he replied, though none of the names were familiar to him. "I have still never had any run-ins with the White Moon at all, and I go out nearly every morning..."
It was a bit of a thrill to think of what she was saying. It sounded as though Sylvite could get into fights with these Order members, but she didn't have to do so with the intention to win. It was enough to learn from them and allow someone with more combat experience discern how to take them out. He couldn't help the ways his fingers curled and his muscles tensed.
He would like to be someone who could successfully take out any particularly worrisome threats.
And it thrummed in him something like excitement at her suggestion. 'Can you get me one?' Rakovanite wanted the practice. He wanted the experience. His gaze roved over the lawns of the park, trailing after a small scattering of passerby. He wanted to because he never had before. He wanted to know if he could. But the tight cords of excitement ebbed out of him on a soft sigh.
"I do not act hastily and without preparation. I should like to know the repercussions beforehand." It wasn't like he'd ever killed before, and it wouldn't do for it to mar his civilian life. He was still a student, still wanted to finish school and find a job, still wanted to have a life outside of this one. If there was a chance that acting recklessly now would ruin that, of course he wasn't going to do it.

Sylvite shrugged. "Okay, but you can if you want," she said. She was sure she could find someone out there to use her cute new nickname, but she wasn't gonna push the issue with a random lieutenant. Business was more important. She was always happy to talk about the stuff she'd found out, and she didn't miss Rakovanite's almost-compliment about how many people she'd met. "Don't feel too bad," she said, although the usual zealous grin had shifted into a smug little smirk. "I didn't find all this stuff out overnight. It's been, like, almost two years, even just since I made captain and really started focusing in on my investigations." She knew people underestimated her tenure, sometimes, even with her rank, given that she'd just turned nineteen but still got offered kids menus at restaurants. It was part of the being five feet tall thing, but she didn't mind. There were more advantages than disadvantages. "Mornings are good for draining 'cause they're not out as much, but if you want to run into some, I'd come out at night. You could also follow a youma around or something. Those guys love chasing youma." Maybe that was why they Negaverse sent out youma even with all the collateral damage. They were pretty good Order magnets. When he hesitated on her challenge, her nose wrinkled again. She was supposed to be in charge here! She was trying to get better at training lieutenants and stuff, but they needed to listen. It was a pretty short lived irritation, though, especially as she saw the group he was looking at. "Yeah, not them," she said. "There's too many. They'd totally freak out." Then she folded her hands in front of her and dropped into the slightly lower, more serious tone. "Okay. So, starseeds are a person's life force, and if you take one out they'll get knocked unconscious. Hence the freaking out if someone else sees you. Then, if you keep it out for too long, or if it gets destroyed or something, the person will die." There were no grins at all now, just something hard in her eyes. "Every once in a while, the pros of that outweigh the cons. Starseeds have their uses as energy sources, apparently, but that's not really my specialty. They're way more useful for bargaining if the person attached is, y'know, alive." She tilted her head a little at that, the serious soldier face not lasting too long. "Although it can get pretty complicated since you need to find the starseed person and the person to bargain with all in the same night, but," she finally cracked another smile, "It's literally the best way to get information." She said it like a fact because it was.

"I would not quite say I felt 'bad,'" Rakovanite admitted, his dark gaze steady on the younger girl before him. "My concern is more that I may not have the capacity to function with the same zeal you do." Certainly not in her people-oriented field. He was not very interested in people and dealing with them... And her general experience far outclassed his own, despite her age. Sylvite had been a dedicated agent for years, and he didn't even have a month with the Negaverse, himself. She had found her role and knew what she wanted to achieve...
Rakovanite had goals.
But not all of them lined up with the Negaverse's mission statement, theoretically.
He stood by the ideal that they would be better for it in the long term, and realistically, people should be thinking about endgame goals. Not everything needed to be immediate. But that didn't have much to do with anything Sylvite was telling him now.
"I do not typically enjoy going out at night," he replied. "I usually sleep early. It is easier for me to tend to these chores in the morning..." It would be a huge pain to adjust his schedule around Negaverse work, even if it wasn't a nightly adjustment. He was already used to rising before the sun to work out, and he'd expected his new duties would fit into that nicely.
As her voice lowered, Rakovanite couldn't help but lean instinctively in, as if she was sharing a secret with him. He knew, minimally, the uses of a starseed. Necessary to live, act as a soul, provide energy when consumed. But Sylvite's explanation was almost clinical, more useful than the physical display of force Wolframite had used to show Nataniel what a starseed meant to a person, with Nat's own as the example.
His brow furrowed. "I am still unsure if I understand. How do you know who to take a starseed from that a senshi would care about? Everyone here is just... a random stranger. Perhaps it would be better if you demonstrated?"

Not enough zeal? Sylvite hadn't really heard it worded like that before, and she had to suck her cheeks in and really focus for a full three seconds to really think about what he'd said. Still, she was always the optimist, and she eventually nodded again. "That might be good, though," she said. "People think I'm 'too enthusiastic' sometimes." It got air quotes to soften it, but deep down Sylvite was very aware that plenty of people thought she was a total ditz. She tried to lean into it and to use it to her advantage with the information work, but- Yeah. No time to think about that right now. "You seem really level headed. Those people will probably really like that about you, and maybe even trust you more," she said, and smiled. "You can try out the morning thing some more, too, if you want. Who knows, maybe you'll find some early bird senshi that the rest of us were missing." Maybe he wouldn't, but she wasn't here to micromanage him like that. She was here to give him one lesson. Speaking of which, she felt an Order aura that had been at the edge of her radar start to get a little closer. Her smile got bigger. "Okay, now's our chance," she said. "Let's see." As the majority of the group disappeared into a part of the path with more trees, someone else came into view. A straggler? They were still a bit closer to the others than Sylvite would have liked, but hey. She had backup! She was gonna have to get a little bit fancy here to make sure she didn't cause too much of a scene. She teleported right next to the person and yanked their starseed free in a single motion, then caught them before they hit the ground.

"You are very enthusiastic," Rakovanite agreed, tone deadpan as he gazed at the girl. And a child. What had Sylvite been like two years ago, when she had first started focusing on her investigations? It seemed absurd to think that this girl could be proficient in any of the skills the Negaverse would find useful, but here she was. And here he was, trying to learn from her. Rakovanite would have believed that children were too rambunctious, too dimwitted, too fragile, too gullible to be useful, but...
Perhaps that was just it. They were gullible and moldable. Sylvite was dedicated to her work, moreso than probably the majority of people Rakovanite had worked with so far, who claimed they were 'forced' and 'unwilling.' He didn't know who had supervised her earliest training, but there must have been someone, and they had done an adequate job.
"Enthusiastic is not unacceptable, though," Rakovanite decided after a moment. "I have not met very many people who are very thrilled with the Negaverse. Your view is..." He trailed off, as if considering how to finish, and when he did, it wasn't as convincing as he may have liked. "Refreshing."
Whatever had sparked her attention and set her into action, Rakovanite wasn't able to perceive.
A frown pinched his brow as Sylvite teleported (what had she sensed? His aptitude for picking up these shifts in aura was woefully underdeveloped), and he scanned the park for where she might reappear. The pink-haired captain appeared right next to the one of the stragglers from the group they'd been watching earlier, and from where he stood Rakovanite could see her quickly and deftly relieve the stranger of her starseed.
Casting a quick glance around as if afraid someone might see him head toward them, Rakovanite strode briskly to Sylvite's side. "This seems like a very hastily thought out plan," he grumbled, looking down at the captain's victim.
It had happened fast, faster than he might have expected was possible. "Are you going to leave her like that?"

Sylvite was was distracted from Rakovanite's comments on enthusiasm by, well, being a little bit overenthusiastic. In her defense, this wasn't exactly the kind of thing that it was good to hesitate on, and she did think about what he was saying. She was thinking about it for sure, even as she teleported away and ended up with her hand in some woman's chest. She got that being serious sometimes was important, she really did, but she also just knew that the Negaverse would be more fun and more effective if officers just got excited about stuff sometimes. She would have told him so, too, when she heard the footsteps coming up behind her, but by that point the other aura was getting really close. "Shhhhh!" whispered Sylvite, a finger to her lips. Her eyes were narrow and serious, though. It was a real command. Then, in a tone that was quiet by her standards but still not exactly soft, she added, "Always pretend to know what you're doing." That probably wasn't what she was supposed to say to get his respect, but it was what she was going with. Hopefully this would all end up working out and her actions would speak louder than words. "But yeah," she added. "In a second. Look." It was then that she could see movement, and after that, a figure sprinting towards them. She had white hair, a blue dress, and as she got closer, Sylvite noticed wicked scars across her face. She was all flushed, like she'd been running for a long time, but when she approached, she stopped all at once and glanced from woman to officers with a look of pure concern. "No," she said, and her voice was actually quiet. "Please don't."

Had- had she just shushed him? Rakovanite's brows shot up in confusion before immediately knitting back down in disbelief. She had! And upon that came a volley of indignation.
What was she even shushing? Rakovanite wasn't ever as loud as she was talking even right now.
How could he possibly pretend to know what Sylvite was doing when she hadn't explained. She'd just teleported off and abandoned him without informing him of her plan. Rakovanite wasn't a mind reader. What had she expected him to do? His expression betrayed little, and he heeded her command for silence, but there was the slightest purse of annoyance to his lips. Nevermind that it seemed unnecessary to pretend when she was a colleague he was supposed to be learning from. It wasn't like she was an enemy and he a clueless-
Something twitched at the periphery of his senses, and Rakovanite inclined his head toward the foreign sensation. He had never so much as passed a knight, or anything Order for that matter, in his month of service. The feeling was a peculiar twang that he decided he wasn't especially fond of.
But he didn't have to wonder over its source for more than a handful of seconds. A young woman sprinted toward them, bearing symbols of Neptune on her uniform.
Rakovanite was immediately certain that no one would charge out here seeking chaos auras unless they were specifically looking for a fight. His combat skills were... not as sharp as someone with more experience. And he wondered if Sylvite was well-practiced in that regard. He tensed, posture shifting to assume a stance more suited to punching than leisurely learning from a superior. Surely so long as he and Sylvite were able to work together...
The knight stopped before them, and it didn't look entirely like she was ready to launch into combat. Her voice was meek and soft, and she looked closer to frightened than angry. Rakovanite couldn't fathom what she was doing here if not to try and fight them, but whatever relationship she had with Sylvite's victim must have been substantial for it to stop her in her tracks.
"'Don't' what? What do you want? You are intrusive."

Pendour wasn't always so observant, but she knew that this was odd. She'd felt the two auras as soon as she powered up, and she'd come to find them as quickly as she could, after only a moment of questioning herself. One agent was dangerous enough, and two were worse, but of course they'd been even more dangerous to someone unsuspecting, someone with no magic. So she'd come, of course she'd asked them to reconsider, because no matter how many people thought she should go trying to fight in these situations, she didn't think that would end well for anyone involved, least of all the woman on the ground. Souls were fragile things, weren't they? One wrong move and- no. Violence was never as simple or appealing as it seemed. They didn't put the starseed back, which was about how things usually went, but they weren't running off with it, either. They stayed, looking at her, even as she approached, even as she asked. Was this a trap? There were no other auras, not that she could tell. She glanced at the man. "Sorry," she said automatically. "Maybe I am being intrusive, but," her brow furrowed even deeper, "she could die." She summoned her ocarina to her hand, a plan slowly forming. --- Ugg. This was going way too fast, even for Sylvite. She wanted to shush Rakovanite again for snapping at the knight, but they were being watched now. She couldn't be caught bickering with the guy she was supposed to be training, but also they needed to not be making enemies right now. This wasn't SpecOps. To be fair, they weren't using the complete 'cute and friendly' strategy today either, and it was okay if the knight didn't end up loving them, but they at least needed her to cooperate. This was all stuff that Sylvite was quickly realizing it would have been great to explain beforehand, but to be fair he had just asked her to show him. The knight showing up was just extra luck. Okay. She did briefly glance over at the lieutentant, before going back to the plan, which meant saying, "It's okay. We'll put it back." She flashed a winning smile. "If you tell me your name and what your magic does."
