In a time of darkness, sometimes it's the little things that make a difference. Destiny City has its fair share of tragedies, not the least of which was the Carnival Fire of 1942. The story of a distant memory that claimed the lives of over a hundred people and injured many more recently resurfaced after an estate sale revealed the only surviving relics of the massive fire: a set of old carousel horses. A local philanthropist and historian acquired the set, some of which were badly burned, and set about restoring them. It took several months, but the project was completed and the Carousel was resurrected in memory of those who lost their life on the very grounds they lost. It stands now, open to the public, a tribute of Destiny's City past and its perseverance. The Carousel operates as to be expected, with antique horses that are perhaps a bit more frightening than need be and a tune that is almost as eerie as it is cheery. Some even say they hear distant voices, and screams, mixed into the music; others have said that as the Carousel moves the shadows of people fleeing distracts them. It's probably just a ghost story, though. Are you brave enough to find out?
It had been Abby's parents idea, saying maybe she would like to go to the carousel that just opened, it had been restored using some antique carousel horses, and theyd love her to see them, but they themselves had work to do and Vivi was occupied with a semester long project, and Abby herself was full of energy but her parents didn't feel comfortable letting her go out without supervision, so they called their tried and true babysitter Glen for the job, which he gladly accepted, loving to spend time with Abby and he sorta of wanted to see the horses too, they were from that old one that was there like, 80 years ago after all. So the two made a quick bus trip to the location of the carousel.
They arrived, Abby rushing forward and Glen chasing behind her, she turned back after after her inspection of the carousel to look at him excitedly. "Glen! Look at it! It's so cool!" Glen looked shocked, he honestly thought she'd hate it two seconds after seeing it, but that didnt seem to be the case, and he instantly wondered why. He looked at it himself, and noted that it looked nice, very antiquated, and then approached what he somehow knew were the restored horses and frankly, they terrified him. Sure, they were perfectly restored, looking as if they had stepped right out of a history book, just before the fire that destroyed them, but they seemed distorted somehow, hostile in a way he couldn't explain, and somehow he knew these are what sold Abby. "Yeah....yeah, cool." He said absently, now lost in one of the horses painted eyes, swearing he could smell smoke, hear a whisper of a please. He shook his head, turning towards Abby. "Let's give it a ride then, okay? It's not busy." And for something that had been talked about and looked forward to for some time, it really wasn't, people were there, but maybe one or two were even daring to try the ride, except for the disappointed looking ghost hunters, wait, ghost hunters!? Glen had a bad feeling now, eyeing the miffed looking people angrily holding up their equipment at the ride, several disgruntled security officers keeping them from getting on the ride and somehow wrecking it with their ghost hunting equipment.
Despite that, he and Abby waited in the short line, getting on the ride when it was their turn, and where everyone else had avoided the restored horses whenever on, not Abby, who excitedly hopped right on the one Glen hated the most. He nervously got on the other, not as bad one. As the carousel started up, Glen had that terrible sensation he got whenever he just knew some damn youma attack was about to happen, it didn't help when the nearest ghost hunters readers started screaming out of control on the first lap of their horses going by them. Great, now he was a spectacle. That was quickly chased out of his mind when the screams began.
They were horrific, the screamers were clearly in pain, long dead people crying out their final tortures, and Glen just wanted to hop the hell off here, but it was if the ride had picked up in speed, to where you normally could hop off a carosel, and of course youd be promptly banned from it, and if you tried that on this carousel it felt like youd be lucky to get off with just that ban.
After what seemed like an eternity, the ride came to an end, Glen grabbing Abby just as the ghost hunters finally got past the scurity guards, storming the ride as the guards called for police backup, and the hunters making grabs for anyone on the ride to ask questions, most of which Glen didn't even bother answer, he just walked quickly with Abby.
Once at a safe distance from the ride Glen turned to Abby, hoping he didn't look shaken. "How d-did you like it?" His voice shook, damn. She looked at him in concern, and it seemed she was thinking. "It was boring really, the screams were cool, and the music box was broken, but it wasn't a really scary ride, it wasn't even really fast. Are you okay? Should we get ice cream?" She was....holy s**t was it just him!? He laughed,a bit hysterically and tried to smile at her, thought it was weak. "I- i'll be okay, nice slide in for ice cream, definitely earns you some." He took her hand in his, walking to the nearest ice cream place, trying to put distance between himself, the carosel, and the perpetual, jagged smile of the horses, which seemed to have tainted them all when he rushed away.
