Quote:
Day Three: As if the shadows weren't creepy enough, now they seem to be moving, stretching beyond where the light shouldn't let it reach. In the afternoon sun, the shadows still seem to be climbing; darkness is spreading across the city unnaturally. More than that, now sometimes it feels like you are being forcibly grabbed, like someone is trying to drag you into the darkness.

It was an inescapable truth, in fact it seemed almost inevitable. With each step she took it seemed impossible to avoid them, whether she moved left or right, up or down... Or even moved towards the light, the shadows seemed to shift and change. Ominous and overwhelming she couldn't believe her eyes as the shadows were moving; whether this was a trick of the eye or ever increasing paranoia she could no longer shake the fact that something was wrong.

The week had started off largely uneventful, all in all there had been a sense that something was odd about it, but she had simply assumed this was nothing more than the halloween spirit kicking in. After all, retailers had started to cash in on holiday seasons much earlier lately and decorations and with that came a mood change.

...What she hadn't counted on was seeing him again; ah yes, the shadowed figure that had pursued her several months ago.

Up until she had awakened she had been an ordinary girl and had been very fortunate to miss some of the more extraordinary events in the city; but ever since Arthur had found her... Well, it was safe to say that things were finding her and this one seemed to be quite persistent. What was worse was that the overwhelming sense of deja vu remained, almost like she was supposed to know who it was.

With very few contacts within the White Moon to query the unusual activity she had already made the unwise (but otherwise logical decision) to seek out those who might know what it all meant. She would have to be careful of course, she'd already experienced rather poor interactions with the agents of chaos...but if there was anyone who would understand the shadows it would be them, right?

I'm so sorry the start is a bit lame, I had people talking in my ear the entire time and had to keep restarting paragraphs. ><; I should catch my stride fairly snappily!

It was almost like clock work at this point. The fall came and so did unusual occurrences. he'd noticed it while out, as a civilian, with Aiden but was experiencing it now while powered up. He had the same negative opinion either way, he didn't like it. The general simply didn't trust it, he knew better than to do so, it was never so simple and safe when the summer died and darker months took hold. That was when things got spooky, which he supposed fell in line with what this time of year used to be - for ancient people. This was a more magical time of the year, wasn't it? It's what he'd heard at his old job, one he'd had so many years ago.

What he wasn't expecting, while yanking himself free of some shadows, was to feel a senshi in the area. Oh how lovely. Perhaps they were having some issues of their own, and he could watch, if only because watching a senshi get beaten by some shadows would be entertaining. It would also prove to him just how far the other side had fallen, in terms of strength, as most seemed lacking now a days - a shame. They weren't anything worth fighting, not really, those that were worthy were either gone or he'd just not run into them - a shame really.

"I can sense you little senshi." Calling out into the darkness as he headed toward it.

It was a signature unlike any other she had ever encountered, though she supposed in a manner of speaking it had been similar to Castor's. A stronger pulse, one that made a statement rather than simply notifying an ally or enemy of its presence. Nevertheless it was one that should have struck fear in the heart of the otherwise young senshi, instead, it did nothing more than cause her to set her jaw.

...And then she heard him.

Her lips pursed as she turned slowly, steps measured as she sought to catch sight of him before he emerged from the shadows. Though she now stood in the light, this didn't prevent the shadows from clinging too her. Par for the course in this extraordinary set of days, she had conceded that for now she would not be able to shake them.

Instead, she might have painted an odd picture, partially shrouded in shadow that hid some of her features in its embrace, though her largely set and unimpressed expression remained exposed for the time being.

"I wasn't trying to hide," She admitted calmly, though at any other time, she would mostly likely have freaked out.

...Odd how certain circumstances settled and steeled the nerves.

Raising a brow at the senshi's simple words he cocked his head to the side a bit - unimpressed. He was, if nothing else, clearly the arrogant sort and finely dressed which added to the look of a snob, which wasn't entirely untrue of the General. "Really now, and the shadows just happen to be covering most of you from sight?" He countered, approaching slowly. He didn't need to worry about an attack, not from one like this, he could handle himself.

He was slow because he could afford to be, because he was confident in himself, he didn't have a worry with this one. "What is a senshi like you doing out alone? This isn't a safe time of year for anyone. Didn't anyone tell you that?" He questioned easily. Most knew this time of year was not a time to be out alone, especially when you were low in rank, it made you an easy target to whatever was cursing the holidays at the moment.

"I'd never let one of mine out alone this time of year - too risky."

Arrogance that belied station, was that how it went? It was an easy confidence and she wasn't stupid...he didn't fear her. Nevertheless in her otherwise foul mood she didn't exactly fear him either. It wasn't the smartest of stances to take but when it came down to it, if she'd wanted to keep herself safe she should have run the second she felt him. He was far stronger than anything she had encountered before, or at least he was definitely something she hadn't encountered in all the meetings with his 'side'.

"They're rather fond of me at present," she shrugged, and to demonstrate her point, she took a step into the light. Even as she moved the shadows struggled against the warmth of the light, grasping at her before finally receding. She was still a reasonable distance away, though in the grand scheme of things that was irrelevant against something like him.

However when he asked what her purpose for being alone was she refrained from mentioning that she had yet to meet a significant number of the Order; the Chaos agents had been right in their observations that her kind were particularly scattered. Instead she went with the more direct approach and conveniently skirted around the truth.

"I was looking for trouble and normally if there's more than one of us, trouble likes to leave us alone," she pointed out. It wasn't much of a lie, weaker agents similar to her in power were more inclined to dodge around more than one senshi if they detected them.

She motioned to him casually.

"I can't find out the truth if you all avoid me," she added and shook her head. "Like why you all seem so intent on shrouding us in this," she glanced over her shoulder.

She hadn't dismissed his remarks regarding the holidays just yet, but given the nature of their own peculiar source of power, she was skeptical. After all, in the grand scheme of things it was convenient for someone to feign ignorance, there was every possibility they were the culprits and were playing the long game.

Watching as the shadows seemed to move, as if choosing to cling to her, he found it rather curious...and concerning. It was something to keep an eye on for certain, it explained some things for sure.

"Trouble might normally run from you, when in a group, but normally groups run from me." Most would, some might run towards him...and they normally found trouble. He might not win every fight, he was just a general, but he had enough experience to handle small groups with some amount of ease. It did, of course, depend on the make up of the group but he was capable of holding his own in most cases.

"Out on your own and looking for trouble isn't a good idea, especially if it's me you're looking to for trouble." He could easily grant it if she sought it, he could add her to the list of senshi he'd killed. But not yet.

"The truth? We aren't behind these shadows - I assure you. This is something we all face. The holidays have their own magic which none of us are behind." How he wished he had an answer to it, knew what was behind it, he could deal with it then in some manner. It would remove some of the danger and mystery as well. "I think most senshi and knights know that we're not behind all of this." Waving a hand about to motion to the city around them.

"I wasn't looking for you specifically," she pointed out. Her odds of meeting someone high ranking had been rather low in comparison to the number she had met who were of a similar level to her. There were some who had been moderately more powerful, but nothing like him. For want of a better description he was similar to Castor in the sense that the probability of her encountering him again was likely to be decidedly low.

"But it might have worked out for the best," she acknowledged. She was definitely playing with fire here, at any moment this one could end her and yet he also served as a source of information. If anyone or anything was going to know what this menace was then it should be someone with his capabilities, right? The theory was sound but that didn't mean he had to be honest with her either... In fact, he had no reason to be.

What benefit could he get out of being truthful with her? They were on opposite sides after all and it would do him a disservice to lead her towards anything that would help her.

However his denials did cause her to raise a brow.

"This is your domain and you're telling me you have no control over it?" she seemed to be genuine in her doubt rather than provocative. To her, the nefarious was always the Negaverse and while they might not claim it to someone like her, there was nothing to say they weren't up to no good in order to exercise control. "I've spoken to some who haven't ruled the out the possibility that it is the machinations of your kind," she added.

"Forgive me, but it seems improbable that you aren't somehow responsible for it."

Improbable, but not impossible.

If he had evidence to the contrary then it was likely she would be willing to listen to or at least witness it.

"My domain? Youma yes...this - no. This isn't ours, we have no sway over the shadows and what havoc transpires during the holidays. We're as trapped as the rest of you are - I can assure you of this." Gesturing around them, to show how he meant what happened around the holidays. It wasn't just this but more, there was always more. "I've been caught, more than once, in these problems and have seen others caught up in them as well. I remember giant spiders a few years back...giant bats...and attacking flowers as well. All of which ruined my civilian time out."

He was known, by some anyway, to be a terrible liar so he didn't bother with it. If a person wanted the truth - he'd give it. He didn't find it productive to lie, though he did omit things, he didn't like to lie. If a person wanted the truth he'd give it...whether they liked it or not. Right now...well she might not believe it but it was the truth.

"Those who think it's us haven't a clue how any times we've been caught up in all this nonsense as well. It's ruined a few dates for me." Which it had. He'd even considered proposing on one of those dates, only for some monster plants to destroy his night. He didn't mention this part, it was too personal, but it had angered him that night.

"I'd have at least known about the plant plot if it had been one of ours. The others...perhaps not. But none of ours were behind it, I can assure you of that." Being that plants were, as far as he figured it, his domain he'd have been informed of if not behind a plot involving plants. He'd neither been aware of nor been involved of that event.

"As I said...this time of year isn't safe for anyone. I'd never have let one of my own out alone like you are - it's dangerous." Approaching her, taking slow steps towards her, the ashen blond reached out with a gloved hand. "You should stay with someone who has some experience with the holiday madness. Anything seems to be possible. I'm not the enemy tonight."

Her lips pursed.

The senshi was quiet for a time as she processed the details he'd provided. There were some events he had mentioned that she hadn't been privvy to, most likely those that had occurred long before she'd been made aware of her own identity, but the one with the plants was one she had been familiar with. That had been her first introduction to the madness and at that time there had been senshi who had referred to them as youma.

"The giant plant thing was a youma though," she pointed out calmly. It might have been alien in origin, she didn't know the full details regarding that, but he had laid claim to youma hadn't he? By extension that would mean that they were involved and if they weren't, then perhaps it seemed their little cultish monster thing simply enjoyed toying with them too.

Despite the severity of the situation and the General she stood in front of though, the impish nature of the senshi did shine through at the mention of his own personal grievances with these events. So even the agents of chaos had normal lives, people who chose to love them or they at the very least, attempted to pursue that love.

Her brow raised, just a tiny flick, but enough to stand out against her grim exterior.

"Wouldn't dating count as playing with your food?" she asked after a few moments of consideration, temporarily distracted by the possibility that they might double-dip on occasions. Ah, but there were always exceptions and maybe his significant others were of the same faction...that would make sense after all.

Another pause followed as he drew nearer and for a moment her hackles rose. There was a part of her that knew better than to play with fire but he had been extraordinarily upfront. In fact, every agent she had met to date had been honest with her, whether she had wanted to hear the truth behind their motivations or not. Some were willing participants in their duties and others not so much, but the fact always remained that none of them pretended to be something they weren't.

Would self preservation kick in?

"You're always supposed to be the enemy though," she mused and shook her head, regarding his hand with equal parts suspicion and curiosity. "You don't stand to gain anything from helping me out, wouldn't it be more useful if this not-chaos wonderland served a purpose for you?" she added.

She wouldn't take his hand just yet, but she did have to wonder why he would even consider offering it. Pragmatism would imply that allowing her to be plagued and destroyed by the shadows would be beneficial...even if it wasn't the Negaverse who would be responsible. One less White Moon, that's how it worked, right?
