Destiny City News reports several sightings of 'rabid dogs' appearing throughout the city. Those interviewed claim that the dogs would surround them and chase them down the streets, seemingly popping in and out of sight until the person finally found themselves in a well lit area. You have the misfortune of running into these same dogs.

They cling to the shadows as you go about your way at night. Seemingly at the corner of your vision, one flickers by, and you turn and see nothing. Again and again it happens. They are trying to drive you into the darkest corners of the city, herding you away from the light. In the nearby distance are the lights of the city: streetlights, signs, traffic. You have to do something to get there, to escape these creatures. When you make it to any significant light source, you hear a low growl, a wailing hiss; the dogs have vanished.

Seasons were changing, and with it came a shift in who roamed the streets while powered. Her own uniform was not really suited for warm weather nor was it very good for running in either as she was quickly realizing.

All Meridiana wanted to do was update her reports on who was currently active before she handed the USB over to Zinkenite and with the medallion she wore it made it easier to eavesdrop on conversations since it masked her aura completely.

However, her intentions quickly changed when the shadows she had been hiding in began to shift. At first, she had thought it was just a figment of her imagination when a dark form moved in her peripheral vision but then she heard it a low growl. The sounds echoed around her in a symphony of disorienting noises; without an aura of their own, Meri couldn’t tell where exactly these rabid dogs were let alone how big they were.

How could she use her magic on something she could not clearly see?

Teeth snapped at her ankles startling a scream out of the corrupt and without much more thought other than to get the hell away, she ran out from behind the tree into a dimly lit field towards the paved walkway that was lined by street lights. The only safe place she could think of until her mind had time to calm down enough so she could think clearly and contact someone for help or to get her the hell out of this area since she couldn't teleport on her own; not yet anyway.

To call Destiny City dull and boring around Halloween was just asking to invite trouble to one's front door. Delaney hadn't been a DC resident that long but she had been able to eavesdrop on some rather interesting conversations between long-time residents as of late. Even the newspaper had gone above and beyond with the printed story of reports of rabid dogs roaming the streets and terrorizing the citizens. As it was all Delaney wanted to do was to finish her errands and return home but that was apparently asking too much. Of course what she wanted to do and what happened next was just the universe's way of saying, "screw you!" to the teen.

One minute Delaney was standing and trying to decide if what she'd glimpsed in the shadows ahead was actually something of substantial mass or not when out of seemingly nowhere a loud, panicked scream tore through the darkening evening. This was so not of the good. All she wanted to do was to go home but now it seemed as if her plans had been decided for her. Rushing headlong into the growing darkness Delaney summoned her transformation into her powered self before trying to pinpoint the direction the scream had come from.

Moments later the Bobcat senshi pulled up to a complete stop as movement registered in the corner of her sight. Something she hadn't realized at first was that she was now completely in the shadows... as a low growl filled the area the order senshi pushed onwards. Would it just be best to push onwards like nothing was amiss - an I ignore you and you will ignore me - type scenario or was the better approach some other tactic? As the activity picked up all around her Meissa began to search the shadows ... just what was she seeing milling about? Who had made that scream of terror? She had questions that needed answers.

A brush of something against her leg had Meissa startling into action. She began to run. Shadows were shadows; they shouldn't be able to make physical contact. Her direction was erratic as more and more she'd catch movement out of the corner of her eyes. Almost sensing that she was being directed somewhere she didn't want to be had the desired effect of suddenly putting on the brakes so to speak. Spotting lights in the distance had the teen turning her back on the darkness behind her as she scanned the area. A movement, different this time, caught her gaze and Meissa began to jog towards a distant silhouette. Was this another trick? Casting out her senses Meissa could not pick up any sort of indication that she was facing another powered individual and she slowed her pace before giving a sharp whistle to grab the attention of whomever it was she was closing the distance between. "Hey, you alright over there?"

Even though her own aura was dampened, Meridiana’s ability to sense others nearby was not affected by the medallions magic. What that meant is that she could track powered signatures without feeling the overwhelming need to flee or flirt her way out of a situation. It also allowed her to get close enough to eavesdrop on conversations so long as she remained hidden behind something like a wall or tree. There had already been a few times where a White Moon Senshi had almost literally bumped shoulders with her, completely oblivious that there was an agent beside them that could drain them of their energy and they would be none the wiser.

However, there were times, like this, when it worked against her. Out in the open and completely exposed, it was only a matter of time before the senshi that had been headed towards her found out what she was and the blame for these shadow creatures got blamed on her.

Panic-stricken, she took a step back knowing full well how badly this was about to go in the next few seconds. Wide eyes glanced around in fear looking for an immediate escape but quickly realized there was none when she heard jaws snap behind her just before one of the rabid dogs gave the back of her dress a jostling tug pulling forth another startled scream before stumbling backward and landing squarely on her tailbone.

Meridiana’s heart sunk into her chest as the distance between her and the senshi became shorter with each step the girl took in her direction. Go away! her mind screamed and yet the only sound that befell her was a pathetic whimper.

These shadows were clever creatures and it seemed that while they couldn’t do much damage to her physically, they could entice a fight between the two of them for their own twisted enjoyment. Zinkenite had tried to teach her to be more aware of her surroundings, but how much more aware could she be when everything around was draped in shadows where monsters that moved between them unseen.?

The fact of the matter was that as hyper-aware as she was from being chased, or herded, herself Meissa found herself ignoring the training that Itsuki had carefully guided her through in order to rescue both herself and the owner of the silhouette that had caught her attention earlier. It maybe was a lack of oversight on the Bobcat senshi's behalf but nevertheless no one in their right mind would leave another person to suffer torment, would they? Panting with the exertion of her own run Sailor Meissa was considering just whether or not her own magic could allow her time to put distance between whatever it was lurking in the shadows and attempt a rescue as well.

Straightening and with her breathing under control Meissa was now cuing into the sounds of distress from the individual that was now seated on the ground before her. Was she injured? Something prickled at the back of her mind about the girl's appearance. There was something about how she looked that was creating an aura of caution. That being said the need to be of assistance was overriding the caution it seemed. Reaching a hand down to the seated woman Meissa wondered if her good-will gesture would be appreciated. Meissa tried to block out the growls that still surrounded her as she left her hand out. It would be up to the stranger if she wanted help getting back on her feet.

"C'mon, I don't bite. Not like whatever these shadows are trying to do to both of us..."

Meridiana looked a bit surprised, if not dumbfounded, as she stared up at the senshi then down at the offered hand. That was definitely not the reaction she was expecting to receive. However, she also was not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Grateful for the assistance, she took ahold of the girls hand and with her help stood up on shaky, likely bruised, legs. “Thank you,” the corrupt brushed the dirt off the back of her dress then gloves as she tried to calm down now that she knew she wasn’t alone.

“They don’t seem to care much for the light,” She stated the obvious as their faces would just barely come into view then slink away into the darkness. “Any thoughts on how to get out of here?” Worse case scenario, Meri could always try using her magic to put at least one of them into a stupor, but that would require actually seeing one and not just simply feeling its presence.

There was nothing really that Meissa believed she needed thanking for as she was just doing her best in order to protect the innocents of the city but she did feel a small twitch in the corner of her mouth which would indicate the appearance of a smile as she felt her hand be clasped by the young woman who hadn't had the best of luck this evening. The senshi of bobcats took a moment to peer more intensely at the shadows that seemed to have grown substantially. With the shadows came the unseen canid-like creatures and she gave her head a small shake at just how dynamic and fluid this situation was becoming.

The civilian that she had just helped stand once more made an interesting comment about about whatever these creatures were not caring for the light and that got Meissa's attention. So being herded away from the light was how these things operated, was there a way that she and this civilian could turn the tide? Or was there something else she was overlooking? How much work would it take to get to a place where there was sufficient light in order to keep them both safe ... just how much damage could be taken before she couldn't take anymore? They'd ended up somewhere that seemed to be quite a distance away from a reliable light source and Meissa was pretty sure that only a well-lit street would be good enough. Her voice was quiet as she spoke, her eyes not leaving the movements she was detecting in the shadows around them, "do you have a good sense of direction? Is there a route we can take from here that would keep these shadows at bay? I'd lead, you'd follow ... but we need a direction to go in."
