For as long as he can remember Joshua has seen...very strange things. Monsters, spirits, yokai, delusions whichever you want to call them Joshua has always watched them. Orphaned at a young age and passed from relative to relative and severely neglected due to the things he saw, Joshua grew up an angry and bitter man.
Now an adult Joshua only wishes to to live his life quietly and put his "delusions" behind him, that is until one day when he realizes that when he watched those strange things they were watching him too. Name: Joshua Kanamori Age: 25 Personality: A man with a bitter and caustic tongue, always ready with a cutting remark, tends to always be seen with a frown on his face. However it's a mask, inside is a man who's hurting deeply over being neglected and with deep seated abandonment issues. Background: The first time Joshua experienced a "delusion" was when he was nine, it had been a rainy day and he had been shopping with his mom. Passing a large puddle he had tugged on her hand and had excitedly exclaimed that there was a group of Kappa playing in it. His mother had brushed it off to an active imagination until Joshua kept pointing out more and more things. In the end his parents did try to help him but they were killed a traffic accident and Joshua was passed onto a relative that was far less forgiving of his "delusions". He now works a local oddity shop and tends to live his life day to day.

Name: Suoh Reitesu Age: Why bother counting? Personality: Suoh is quiet an calm. He completes his work efficiently and is currently ranked as third strongest within the Shrouded Realm's court. He loves his garden and will spend much of his free time tending it, but for the most part he is like a forest. Calm, stoic, but teaming with life inside. He is a fierce protector of humanity and has even threatened the twin leaders of the Realm themselves should they ever bring harm to an innocent. Background: Suoh is a head Magistrate within the Shrouded Realm where spirits and demons dwelt. Many lived within the Human Realm, passing their days unseen among the mortals. Some kept to themselves while others caused mischief. Suoh was in charge of leading those who prevented the truly evil from entering into the Human Realm to feast upon the humans, his men guarding the barrier between the two. Mostly his work was administrative, but occasionally he would be called to the field when a particularly powerful spirit passed over into the Human Realm and had to be stopped. It was upon one of these missions that he came across a young human male that could see their kind. It is rare for a human to have spiritual powers that strong now days. They were highly desirable to spirits who could be healed and receive a bit of strength from them to demons who wished to devour their souls and take their spiritual power for themselves. The demon who had crossed over had caught wind of this human boy and was set upon eating him and using the stolen power to over take the Shrouded Realm. Suoh had made quick work of the fool. Anyone who needed to eat souls for strength was no match for him, but the human boy caught his interest. He kept tabs on him until the day his parents were killed in a car accident. Then the boy disappeared and Suoh thought him lost. He had his agents keep and eye out and finally, they found him. Now Suoh had traveled to the Human Realm to lay claim on the human. With Suoh at his back, it would protect him from all but the most foolish of demons. And there was the added bonus that Suoh would be near the now man, the idea of which he found himself quite liking.

Joshua let out a grunt as he walked down the stairs that led to his living area in the oddity shop and began making preparations for opening it. He lived at this place for two years now, a part of him was still grateful that his boss had found him drenched like a wet cat those years ago and brought him in. Though god if that man wasn't weirdest person he had ever met. He turned to open the doors to the shop when they burst open themselves and his boss strolled in. Joshua nearly leapt back like a startled cat, as the older man grinned at him soaked to the ******** hell Boss you nearly gave me a heart attack." He grumbled. "Ah good morning Joshua, today's a nice day isn't it? I think i'll go another stroll in a little bit. Also here." His boss handed him some money still soaking wet. "You should get yourself something extra nice for lunch today! In celebration." The older man beamed. Joshua frowned as his boss continued to drip onto the shop's floor, "In celebration of what boss? There ain't no holidays today." "Oh?" His boss grinned looking sly. "Haven't you ever heard the legends Joshua? Rainstorms like are said to hail the wedding of two yokais." At that Joshua's blood ran cold, he had never said anything of his past or his delusions but he had a feeling that the man knew. Considering sometimes in the shop he saw people who.....didn't look like people. "Yokai and spirits aren't real boss, can I go finish setting up the shop now?" ' 'And get a mop too?' He thought. Joshua's boss waved him off, heading to his office in the storm while Joshua finished opening up, once that was done he did the thing he usually did, he settled in the chair behind the registrar and stared at the rain waiting for customers to show up.

Suoh checked the sky and lifted an eyebrow, the Gods seemed to support his intentions. He checked his appearance, his horn and demonic marks were hidden in his human form. He wore a black and red kimono as he usually did, but he looked the same as a human. He had received word from the man he watching over the human that he was at the shop. It was one that catered to the Yokai that lived in the human world, but seemed just an oddity shop to regular humans. He nodded to himself, everything was prepared. He stepped outside of the gate he had prepared and walked into the human realm, opening an umbrella to shield himself from the rain. It was a short walk to the shop. The bell jingled softly as he opened the door and he closed his umbrella, setting it to the side when he walked in. He could feel the presence of the demon that ran the shop, the man staying in the back office out of respect. His eyes fell on the human, Joshua, he had been told, for the first time since his childhood. He smiled softly and stepped forward, inclining his head, "Good afternoon, Seer." He met the other's eyes and allowed his magic to fall, his horn and the demonic marks below around his eyes appearing. "I have been searching for you." ((sorry if short!))

*It's fine I just went kinda overboard with my first post lmao* Joshua's first reaction to this was pretty much, "oh no."It was happening again, he knew he ********> knew he had been getting complacent, none of his delusions had ever talked to him so he figured he could just ignore him. Of course something like this would happen. He wanted to yell at this demon, tell them to leave him alone but he knew boss was in his office and Joshua desperately didn't want to kicked out. He had heard the rumors that were spreading about him the shopping district. That he was insane, that he was a danger, that his boss talked to yokai so of course whoever worked there would be a crazy b*****d too. So he did the only thing he could think of, he clenched his fists so hard his knuckles went white and just....refused to look at the demon. Joshua fixed his gaze past the man and stared into the pouring rain saying nothing, doing nothing.

Suoh cocked his head to the side slightly when Joshua tried to ignore him. Did the human really think ignoring a higher demon with make him go away? That might work with lesser yokai, but not him. He smiled and reached forward, his hand cupping the human's cheek before Joshua would have a chance to move away. "I assure you, I am real, Joshua." He cocked his eyebrow and moved his hand away. "I have been aware of you and your sight for some time. But now you are of age. Your spiritual power is as strong as it will be while you remain untrained. That is why I have come for you." He leaned forward over the counter between them, "There are many yokai who would nothing more than to devour your soul and take that power for themselves." He leaned back, crossing his arms, "You are not safe here. The shop keep cannot protect you forever, but I can." He studied Joshua's face, "You have a choice before you. Come with me. I will train and protect you, teach you to defend yourself. As a part of my household even the most power hungry yokai would think twice before coming after you. Or you can stay here, stare at walls and pretend we aren't here. The shop keep will try to protect you, but eventually he will be over powered. You will die, your soul gone forever. The choice is yours." Suoh had debated how he would break the news to Joshua that he was laying claim to him. He'd considered just taking the human and having his things delivered later. Or maybe slowly getting to know him and gaining his trust. But both didn't seem the best action. He wanted the relationship between them to be based on trust and the best way to gain trust is to be straight forward and honest from the start. ((hey I made a smaller version of your picture if you are interested))

*Thank you* Joshua flinched back away from the man before a look of rage and hurt came across his face. "What......What the ******** is this!? Some kind of sick joke?!" He strode up to the demon and shoved him back. "Did the neighbors put you up to this?! 'Oh let's go ******** pull a prank on the insane guy in the shop, that'll be fun won't it!' The ******** the matter with you!" At this point Joshua knew he was yelling loud enough to startle boss but, he finally reached his limit. "Demons!? Yokai!? Me being a ******** seer!? Don't give that asinine s**t! If I was really that goddamned special then why the hell did my parents die!? Why the ******** did my relatives hate me so much!?" His voice cracked and to Joshua's mortification he could feel tears steadily rolling down his cheeks. "Now Mr. ******** bigshot demon, I'm gonna give you a choice you can either turn your a** around and leave the shop, or I'll throw your a** out.

Suoh hadn't been yelled at in-centuries. Maybe longer. His surprise was so strong, that Joshua was able to push him back a step. But then the human was crying and Suoh really had no idea what to do. But even through his tears, Joshua was threatening him. Suoh tried to not smile, Joshua was strong. "No one has sent me. Your parents' deaths were the doings of humans, not yokai, Joshua. Your relatives, like most humans, are too blinded by their arrogance to see your worth. I am not." He stepped forward and softly wiped away a tear from Joshua's cheek. He glanced behind the human and saw the shop keep had stepped out from his office. They were making a scene. If Joshua kept yelling, they may even draw other humans from outside of the shop. They would be able to see him, though they would not see the parts that make him demon. "We are using your office," he said to the shop keep. The man nodded and stepped aside. "Yes, Magistrate. I will attend the shop and any who might have heard." Suoh nodded himself and bent slightly, pulling Joshua against his shoulder and standing, carrying him like a sack. He walked past the shop keep, who bowed, and shut the office door behind him. He frowned at how light Joshua seemed, was that normal for humans? He didn't think so. Once in the office, he put Joshua down on a chair and moved to lean against the desk, his arms crossed. "I understand your doubts, Joshua. You are wise to question someone telling you such things out of no where. Perhaps words will not do. Let me show you instead." His hand glowed red and he made a slashing motion towards the door. It's frame began to glow red as well and Suoh pushed off his seat on the desk. "Come, I will show you my home. You will be safe there, but do not leave it until after I have claimed you. Though you shall be within my territory, with no claim upon you, you shall be free game." He opened the door and it didn't lead back into the shop. Instead it lead to the entrance of his castle. Suoh stepped aside and waited, "See for yourself. I do not lie, Joshua. I am from the Shrouded Realm and I desire for you to return to that Realm with me as my mate. So long as we do not close this door, the gateway will remain open and you may return." If this did not prove to Joshua that he was serious and actually a demon, then Suoh wasn't sure what would. ((Hope this is ok! Also, another picture of the town/area around his castle))

Joshua went from angry to completely baffled as he was literally picked up like a sack of potatoes, dumped into a chair and then told by a man who was literally a demon that he was going to take him away. "W-what?" Was all he could get out as his brain short circuited on him. And then the man opened a ******** portal in the office and all he could was stare. Cautiously he reached forward unsure if he had finally lost it and his hand went through the portal, it....was real. And then the other part of what the demon man said sank in and Joshua jumped out of the chair like a startled cat and skittered back. "Mate?! Claim!? What!? You can't be serious, I don't even know you! I don't even know what it would entail!" He snapped out. Granted....the demon man was handsome but if he thought Joshua would just go along with this, he was very much wrong. "What the hell." He muttered tugging at his hair.

"Do not worry yourself, Joshua. I am an honorable man, I will not force myself upon you." He gently pulled the man's hands away from where they were pulling on his hair as it seemed painful. "My claim shall be in name only. You will be my mate in the eyes of my fellow demons, but I will not take you to my bed if it is not what you desire." He stepped back and crossed his arms, "It would be dishonorable to do so. However, if I do not lay claim upon you, it is very likely that another demon who has no such honor will. If you are not devoured, your fate will be dire indeed." He, of course, would not allow that to happen, but it would be so much easier if Joshua accepted his protection so he would legally have the right to protect him. "As I said before, the choice is yours. I only wish to protect you Joshua, and this is the way I will best be able to do so."

"So it's more like taking me into protective custody than actual marriage." He spoke finally calming down and coming to terms with this. "But you keep saying I'm in danger, it's not as if I go out of my way to interact with your....kind. So I don't understand why I would be in danger. I just see you guys that's all." "And quite honestly if I were to ask....why me? I'm a hostile b*****d, seer or not I can't really be that important to you." At that Joshua gave a slightly bitter laugh. It was strange, all those years thinking he was having hallucinations, it turned what he was seeing was actually real and that he had never been a liar or someone crying for attention.

Suoh frowned slightly, "You have just reached a quarter of a century, correct? Your spiritual power that allows you to see our kind is growing, if it continues to do so without training, you will become a beacon for demons who wish to use that power for their own gains. Human souls are eaten by dishonorable demons who are trying to grow their power, but a human with spiritual powers? That can see us without having been trained? Their souls are especially delicious to yokai and the power gained would be enough to make any demon a threat to the order of the Shrouded Realm. I protect the Human Realm from yokai who would hunt humans, but if there were a war to start within my realm I would be forced to join in it, leaving human kind vulnerable. More demons would cross over and feast upon humans, gaining more and more power. The balance of peace we have been able to maintain for all these years would topple. It would be centuries before we would be able to restore it once more." He smiled gently, "More importantly, Joshua, I desire you to be happy. This world has been cruel to you, made you into a 'hostile b*****d'. I wish to be the one who brings a smile to your face." He stepped back to the doorway, "Would you accompany me to my world? You may return to the human world at any time you wish, but at least give me a chance to show you rather than tell you, my sincerity."

Joshua was going to protest, but really what reason did he have for staying here? He had no one, no family who miss him, no friends, no lover. There was nothing tying him to do the human world. "Even so...I can't really be the only person who has this, you keep saying you want me to be happy but I just don't get it. Why me?" And Joshua really was confused, that was what he truly thought of himself, a nobody, no one worth caring for or crying over. "How does the claiming even work? You just say this human belongs me to and...what the other demons will buy it?"

Suoh lifted an eyebrow and smiled softly, "Why not you Joshua?" He gently put his hand on Joshua's shoulder, "Yes, there are several humans with high spiritual power, but they usually become priests and priestesses. Or exorcists, depending on if they run towards the more violent personalities. Regardless, they are protected by their weapons or holy spaces. Rarely do those with power grow into that power unaffiliated with either of those groups. You have not only survived to this age, showing strength and persistence, but you have done it alone. That, my dear Joshua, is admirable." Joshua asked how the claiming worked and he smiled, "Just a little ceremony. Nothing too bad, I announce my claim over you and leave my mark upon you. Usually there is a claiming bite, but I will not be doing that. I shall give you a necklace with my crest and a touch of my own power embedded into it. Anyone who encounters you will be able to feel that power and know that you are claimed by another. If they make any attempt at you it would be a direct challenge to me."

Admirable? The man thought he was admirable? Joshua was startled to hear that, especially since everyone else hated him. But....if he did get claimed by this demon would he keep him for the rest of his life, or would the demon just throw him away once someone with more power manifested. Joshua just didn't know what to think or who to trust anymore, he had always been alone since his parents died. Tossed aside until it was time to get rid of him. Would living with this demon be different? "I just don't understand." Joshua's voice was frail and weak, showing the side of the former child who was hated and abandoned.
