Wolframite had not been to Cavansite's office sing bringing up his request to corrupt Nat and his concerns about Mali. Much had happened then, and he felt a bit saddened that he might have to report that their combined effort to help the corrupted senshi was now a solo endevour for the general.

However, he was glad to know she was helping him with Nat, and unlike the corrupted officers he knew, she was one he felt wouldn't harm or abuse the fresh recruit. If anything, it made him proud to see officers who still cared for one another and the cause.

Upon her request, he came to her office days after the corruption and knocked.

The stale smell of the fast food chicken had hung in the air for days after her ill received meeting with Mali, and Cavansite had finally brought in several fans to do her best to get it out. It hadn’t been a wise idea to have the food in such close quarters but…

It was something that was all in her mind, too. She knew that.

Perhaps if the meeting had gone better…then…well.

But it hadn’t. And that was that.

With the knock on her door, the General glanced up from her papers, frowning slightly, though when she felt the aura of a captain outside of it, she gave a slight smile. It was most likely Wolframite, but…she didn’t want to assume anything. “Come.” She called, sitting back in her chair and taking a more comfortable pose, rolling her shoulders to release some of the tension.

He had a better sense of smell. Not exactly to that of a bloodhound and in no way capable to detect what canines could, bit it was a boost to what he had. When he opened the door, he smelled chicken. No fresh but a longer smell that had checked for a while.

Closing the door, he tried not to show concern. The last time he saw Cavansite, she looked exhausted. That state didn't seem to improve and eating at work made him think of long hours in the office. For a half-youma, he lived here. Long hours made sense. Bit for a human, wasn't that unhealthy?

"General." He said as he came in. "You wanted to see me."

Cavansite glanced up and gave an almost silent, relieved sigh when she saw that it was indeed Wolframite. “Have a seat, yes. I had wanted to speak to you about the other lieutenant that we were with at Rakovanite’s corruption, but then I finally had that conversation with Mali and you can imagine that that went just splendidly. He’s as much of an a** as I remembered and honestly, I’m not sure if I want to handle him any longer. I may see if someone else can take him under their wing.” She shrugged, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

“He’s not doing badly though, and I am putting him through for an upgrade, so at least if something happens with him, it won’t be entirely on my shoulders now. But…tell me, who was that lieutenant, and why is he so thin and jumpy?”

Talking about Mali made bile rise in the back of her throat and Cavansite didn’t want to deal with it right now. Maybe she could just focus on the other boy and be done with it.

“Is he the reason we brought Rakovanite into the fold? What was the whole story there?”

He frowned at the mention of Mali, the pain still fresh in him. "That's good that he is still doing well enough to progress into being a Captain. I have to say that I won't be watching him anymore. Our last talk ended badly and I am unsure if we will be friends again. I feel like my history and dedication to the Negaverse was too much for him to have to deal with anymore. I wish I could have helped more." He said flatly, restraining his emotions to stay professional.

The topic was brought back to the corruption he had asked her to help with, and he was surprised for a moment. He considered what exactly she was asking him, but he wasn't about to be dumb here. It served him no purpose to be deceitful in that regard.

"That is lieutenant Fettelite. That is just his disposition and he doesn't work out or eat much. You know the skittish types." He said, dismissing what overall was just how Fettelite appeared to be.

"The officer is close to Rakovanite. I found out that Fettelite had talked to him about the Negaverse and I stressed the risk of what he had done. Fettelite wasn't confident he could protect him and so I made a deal that it would be in the best interest of all of them to corrupt Rakovanite so that a civilian wasn't running about with a Negaverser's identity that could be used in the wrong hands. I also stated that if this was done, I'd also work on making Fettelite stronger so that he could meet the challenge of being there for his companion. They could have rejected the offer. I did not force them. We talked about it before I set up the meeting with you and I gave them time to think it over."

"Civilians on their own could be tortured for knowing about a officer and a officer like Fettelite could be manipulated if his companion was used as a hostage. He has a nice enough personality but I am not confident he would hold out long after breaking a few fingers." This was said in a matter-o-fact tone as he sat straight and proper as he could.

"I did what I thought was best for everyone. Rakovanite seemed like a capable choice for a new recruit and having both of them working to improve for the sake of the other motivates them to work hard. It's also why I wanted to supervise his progress. I admit I want the experience." And because their deal meant he needed to be involved around them.

"Even without the deal I would have trained anyone needing help of course. I just felt that people dating can break up easily. With Rakovanite corrupted, even if the two seperated, they would still be on our side and no one could then leak information."

The smell of chicken, no matter how old, was making him anxious. "Where you worried I was making a mistake?" He watched her. Questions like this were also a judgement on him, and he had a reputation he was trying to fix.

He could have killed Nat but he made no mention of that to Cavansite. From what he could tell, Cavansite was a kind person who was supportive to her charges. She didn't seem the bloody, ruthless kind who felt fear was a good tactic for most things.

Cavansite nodded, rubbing the bridge of her nose for a moment before sitting back in her chair and listening to his words about Fettelite. “No, no. I agree about that. I would rather have a corrupted civilian on our side and a happy lieutenant who is now more beholden to us than a dead civilian and a lieutenant who now suddenly thinks the best idea is purification.”

She looked even more tired as she spoke, and after a moment yawned, rubbing at her eyes. “I don’t think you’d make a mistake, Wolframite. Honestly from what I’ve seen, that’s just not in your nature, I was simply worried for the lieutenant. Who is his General? He should be under better care, and have someone making sure that he won’t be so jumpy, especially at a corruption. What will he do when he reaches the rank of Captain or General himself? Stutter himself into incoherence and be unable to bring someone over?”

There was this new, odd feeling that he would just hate her too, and it made her stomach twist almost more than the stale smell of food was doing. “If we could get him transferred to my leadership, I know I could do something with him, and for the better, I think. Plus then him and his little…whatever will at least be in the same group, they can have one another’s backs.”

Wolframite considered this but knew it could cause a heap of trouble for Fettelite. The man had a possessive, manipulative, and abusive general who did everything in his power to keep the officer under his thumb. The general would no doubt counter any concerns easy as there was no evidence as to poor conduct by him other than Fettelite's own testimony and body. The officer would be too scared to say anything to another officer and any injuries not already taken by Wolframite could be dismissed as spar injuries or kinky foreplay with Nat. Even more, once it was heard, the general would do everything to lock Fettelite away out of the reach of anyone. It would keep Wolframite from monitoring the officer and helping where he could. There would be a direct violate of their budding trust and the deal they made.

In any other word or circumstance, it would have been a kind offer, but in this case it could very well result in a officer being lost forever.

"I don't think that's smart. He already had a transfer from one busy general to his current superior. He is working hard to prove himself worthy and he internalizes a lot of things. Having him transfer again could knock down what little confidence he has by making him think he either was given up or failed somehow. Being transfered twice is abnormal after all so any officer might start questioning if they did something wrong. Not to mention you already have several officers to take care of. You just mentiond fhat Mali is still in need of his own workshopping."

Reaching back, he moved the tip of his tail beside him and near his lap. "I think distance between the two might keep them from being too focused on one another and have some independence. They can still go on patrols but too close all the time might make them not stand well on their own and become too dependent."

He brushed his hands through the fur of his tail to smooth it down. "Not everyone in the organization has to be suited for corruptions and fighting. It's why we have support in the offices, infirmary, and other areas. No one can really know what kind of person they corrupt. What's important is that we find a place that fits for them. Let those who are sly and charismatic do the talking. Those who are kind and empathetic to do the tending. Those who are ruthless and merciless to do the killing. Fettelite will find his place that suits his disposition. Training with me will help and I'll continue to be a friend, bit I don't think that deep down that his very character will change to a fighter like most. His heart is tender. I think he'd have much more joy in other fields."

To this he smiled and shrugged. "But that's just from what I've gathered."

He wanted her away from sniffing around Fettelite. "What do you think of Rakovanite?"

Cavansite nodded slowly, both disappointed, though a little relieved not to have to step in and do anything…though, if it really came to it, she would make some deeper inquiries. Right now though…she didn’t have the strength or the inclination.

“Mmm, Rakovanite? He seems willing enough, I am not displeased at least, which is a plus. I don’t know. Perhaps I’m just getting pickier as I age, but I think I’m going to start making sure that I know my recruits at least a little bit before I bring them in. That used to be my way but I seem to have fallen off of that horse, it’s time to get myself back on. But, what do you think of him, Wolframite?”

Reaching down, the General began playing with some of the stolen items on her belt, idly running her fingers over the flowers that once sat in Sailor Victoria’s hair, and the hair clip she had stolen from that page of Mercury.

“I trust your judgment, and I hope you feel the same as I do about him, but frankly, I don’t know him yet. I know I’ll have a better opinion later on, though right now, I’m just not completely sure.”

"He is pig-headed and no frills. Very much to the point, quick to give an opinion, and more business then pleasure. He seems to only decide what's worth giving his attention and questions everything. He'll be a pain in the a** to train, but he is also toned, seems to enjoy working out, and most importantly is dedicated in protecting and caring for Fettelite. These are things that will keep him from straying and hopefully listen. He isn't a idiot and does take in information. I don't mind his questioning either. I only am concerned that, if Fettelite does somehow sway or does something dangerous, he might consider us responsible. There is a possibility he could resent me if Fettelite's own welfare and happiness is jepordized. I don't know enough of his general to doubt this would happen if course, but it's clear that if one defects, the one would too and vice versa. They are very much tied together."

He smiled slightly. "I think I'll make sure Rak works hard and keeps his priorities in check so I can keep my ear out for any signs he and the other are up to anything. I don't see it happening, but seeing as I defected, anything can happen to anyone. I just know strong ties can sink both ships."

And to this he leaned in a bit and regarded her, his tone softer and loosing the business air of giving a report. "How are you holding up? This is the second time I've been in your office, and you still look awful. Is it just because of Mali?"

Cavansite let his words wash over her, and worked hard not to make any comments. She suddenly felt ill prepared to deal with the whole situation, but finally just nodded at the captain in front of her, working to return his smile with a tired one of her own.

“Mm?” His question confused her, as did his change of tone. Perhaps she hadn’t been following the conversation as close as she should have been after all. “How am I holding up? Is…” Cavansite felt startled, and her brows knit as she looked up at the half youma before her, already shaking her head to protest. “Is what because of Mali? I mean, no. I suppose. I just live here, that’s why I look so awful. I’m not sure the last time that I was…home. Not sure I even really. Have one anymore. But. That’s neither here nor there so…best not to worry about it. I suppose I’m just tired. It’s been an exhausting year and I’m working hard to put it all behind me.”

Had it only been a year?

A little more than a year now since his death but.

More than a year since she had the youmaglia implanted, and almost five months now since it had been removed and…nothing seemed to really be getting better.

Still though. None of that was Wolframite’s issue. “I’m doing fine. It’s just so easy to complain when you allow me to, I do apologize.”

"I'm allowing you to, so go ahead and unload. I won't repeat anything I hear. These ears aren't for decoration after all and I enjoy listening." He said with a gesture to the large ears atop his head. People were mixed in ever talking to him. Some either saw no point in connecting to what they saw as a tool or emotionalist monster. Others saw him as someone who couldn't gossip since he lived here or a pet that was good to talk at. A good few did none of that and just talked as if they talked to anyone. Whatever the reason, he just liked hearing about people and seeing if he could help.

"I had no idea you lived here. I haven't seen you at the barracks before or do you have a personal room in the castle? As much as you work, you should at least make sure to set a clock here to sleep decently. Without light, you are not going to feel that great. Not without a light lamp. You are fully human after all and need it instead of being in this dark office." His eyes scanned about it before settling back at her. As a half youma, he was less inclined to feel the negative effects of no sunshine as his other side enjoyed the Negaverse.

"Is there a reason you don't know if you don't have a home? Or don't go back?" He asked tentatively.

Cavansite’s eyes flicked to his ears, and she pursed her lips, overcome with the sudden desire to rub them as she would with a normal dog’s. Good God, she needed some sleep. And maybe he was right. A sun lamp would…might be a good addition in here for her.

“I don’t have any other rooms. This suits me just fine for my needs. I don’t go home because I’m not really sure what awaits me. I thought…” She broke off. It wasn’t…really his business, but…it was kind of eating at her. “I thought back at the end of summer that would change but, I suppose…it isn’t changing so. I remain here. It’s not so bad. I like my office, but I will take into account your suggestion about the sun lamp, that might be nice, though I do get out every day to go do my teaching job. I’m an English teacher at Crystal Academy so, I see the sun. Sometimes.”

Often enough, at least.

“Why are you so concerned about me? There’s nothing wrong with loving your job and being committed. And right now, my…um. Significant other is at my home, and I’m not quite sure where we stand. She’s not very good at communication, and neither am I so…it’s fine. I just remain here. And she…has my house.”

"You could get a small room and put a nice bed in there. I can't imagine getting any good sleep here." He said as he looked back around the office. "Or the barracks. You could use a room there." It seemed it might be temporary but it could become permanent of she lost what grounded her to her home.

That he felt for, and it rang so close to home, resonating to his past.

"I'm surprised you are here as much as you are and also have a job. I didn't know you were a teacher, but now that I consider how you hold yourself and others, I can see it. Well as much as my memory of teachers goes."

"You are one of the few people that even talks to me, Cavansite, and out of the shitty generals I've seen, I can see a good one. You care about your officers and it makes me think of the old ways. The way things were. Sure we were ruthless and rough on our subordinates, on us, but there was a sense of family too. I like seeing that, and I want to bring it back. Our sense of family, because you are my family, Cavansite."

He went quiet a moment, somber in a thought, before he started again. "I'm not sure if what you are going through is even the same as it was for me. I don't want to assume that, but - I have been there. With Bismuthite and I. When things changed and we drifted apart. I used to work more. Slept on the couch. Didn't even come home much cause it got hard to be around them. I hurt them a lot. I hope things get better, but avoiding it won't help. It will eat at you."

"But - I'm just saying. Probably not my place to say anything. I don't know you very well after all."
PostPosted: Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:01 pm

She didn’t want to stay in the barracks. Her office was just fine as it was, and she hadn’t had any issues up until now. Any issues that she was comfortable with dealing with, at least.

Cavansite didn’t speak her thoughts though, and listened as he continued, feeling her resentment softening as he acknowledged that she did a good job at being a general…it made her feel suddenly warm and she nodded slowly. “You are my family too, Wolframite. Thank you.”

And this was why she was still here. Working tirelessly, trying to be a good general…for words such as that. For feelings such as that. She would simply have to keep working towards her goal of being a good general for her recruits and her underlings. That was the only solution to all of this. There was simply no…no running away. Not while they needed her.

“…That’s not. Not quite how it’s going with her and I…but I suppose a little. I hope that it gets better too.” It already was eating at her, but there was nothing to be done.

Cavansite would rather die than be the cause of Painite getting hurt, or her going through the pain and confusion of the youmaglia. No, it was much easier to just put the other general out of her mind and focus on work. And her family.

Her family.

It was clear this wasn't a topic to try and let into and so he let it go.

There was one last thing he could do and it honestly was something he had been considering since speaking with Cavansite.

"If you do not mind, I do have one last thing to ask. When I was a general, I never had a team and mainly only did patrols. I never once maintained an office. I lacked a lot back then in being a general someone could rely upon outside of taking any random officer out on patrol or filling out a report. If you wouldn't mind, can I help assist you? My own general is away so I cannot learn as much as I would like."

"Only of that sounds like something you would be okay with. This place is your territory after all. I do not expect to impose upon it."
