Click to show.Drift lounged on his favorite hillock, the one he first met Fivespot on, and watched a group of rabbits acting out some sort of play or drama on the grass across the clearing. He liked the vantage point from a tactics point of view, but also found he enjoyed seeing their process and the drama unfold. After being a wanderer and loner for his early life, it was an adjustment to feel so welcomed here. And he really did feel very welcomed by this warren! Despite his complete lack of creativity and talent, the artistic rabbits genuinely seemed to enjoy chattering at him, showing their projects, and greeted him when he wandered by.

The buck mulled over the Red Guard. He saw Caper by the barracks, discussing something with a guard it looked like. Drift was on the large side for bucks, and was also just a laid back casual sort of guy, so his presence was sort of a security to the rabbits even if they and he both did not fully realize. He definitely sensed that he would really fit in with that group though and was still toying with approaching the founders at the next Joining celebration. The rabbits were abuzz with plans for it, so he knew it must be coming and he would need a decision.

A scuffing sound brought him from his mulling and he flicked an ear, then turned to see a very young, very timid little dutch doe sitting just outside the opening to the Pink burrow. She blinked and looked ready to bolt at any moment. Drift couldn't place her name, or if he had ever met her before. The silence stretched, but he thought maybe if he said anything she would dart away. Finally she said in a quiet voice:

"Fivespot has kitted... she insisted I come tell you..." She paused, looking nervous and also like she was trying very hard to remember what she was supposed to say. Drift had startled up and now approached her eagerly. Kitted?? Already!? He was not ready to be a father! He did not know how these things worked but really had thought when she told him that it would be seasons before they actually arrived! Why had he not been planning for this, or... learning whatever fathers do? Do fathers do anything at all, what did this even mean??
"Can I uh.. can I see?" Now it was Drift's turn to be a little shy. He had no idea what kit protocol was, or what his role was here. But he felt compelled to see these creatures that he helped make somehow, maybe it would make it more real?

"Oh uh, no no." The little doe backed up, not doing very well to block the tunnel, as she was barely half the size of the opening. "I uh.. no she said it is critical right now that no one comes or goes until she says..." Drift looked a little crestfallen, and the doe continued," But she asked to tell you it is two girls and twin boys!" The doe beamed then, obviously enchanted with the babies already.

"Twins!" Drift thumped his hind leg in excitement and the doe jumped in place, startled. "Woops uh heh sorry about that!"

"I have to go back now. Oh.. she said to ask if you can go tell the others of the warren though.... I will come get you when you can visit ok." She was already halfway down the tunnel as she finished relaying her message. Then she was gone.

Drift very much wanted to follow her, but also, did not want to cause any harm. Instead, he turned and bounded full tilt down the clearing toward the Blue crafting corner, wanting Smudge to be the first to know!

She snuggled in her downy soft fur-lined nest, nursing, cleaning and cuddling her tiny kits. Does came and went to coo and fawn over the little ones. Shine, the quiet little doe that wanted to join the pinks almost never left her side. Fivespot gave directions, but it was her time to be one of the mothers rather than the leader, and she soaked up the relaxation and comfort.

As the kits fuzzed over and left their most fragile state, she sent word that it was safe for outsiders to come and see. She sent for Drift, who reportedly had not left the outside of the burrow for days. This secretly pleased her a little, as he was not a committed member of the warren yet she had not been sure if he would even stick around. Apparently he was quite eager to come see the little fuzzballs. Shine went to fetch him as requested.

Drift slowly approached the nest. He was uncomfortable, he had never been down here and was on high alert with the feeling this was a special place. Scooting closer, he peered into the alcove and Fivespot smiled gently. He did not say a word, stunned as she pulled back some fluff to reveal a pile of tiny curled downy soft lumps. They were mostly white, but his eyes were instantly drawn to the gray one, the intensely familiar one, and his heart nearly beat its way out of his chest. Ever so gently he reached a paw out to set it on the graycream lump and it stirred.

"I've been thinking of names Drift... I think the twins shall be Parsley and Sage." She gently patted each fluffball as she said their names, but they slept on quietly undisturbed.
"Perhaps Rosemary for this little cutie." She said, indicating the next lump that curled tighter when she touched it. "And Thy-"

"Junior!" Drift interrupted her, breathlessly, and very carefully picked up the fourth fluff he had had his paw on. It looked just like a tiny replica of him and he was completely enamored. "Junior." He smiled down at the ball.

"Drift..." Fivespot tried to hide her amusement at this name, but he was just so sweet holding the little kit, she could never tell him no. "Ok how about Junie though, that's pretty cute for her." The buck nodded, he was barely listening as he looked at the fluff balls in the nest, and the soft nearly weightless kit in his paws.
