Victory!

The rain might have been pouring but the beast had gone down and it was quite a bit larger than the last set she'd taken out. The senshi hadn't quite mastered the art of battling more than one at the same time, and crucially, she was still limited against what size she could battle. Nevertheless progress was progress and while her fists were a little bruised and the plank she had picked up was decidedly spent, she'd managed to achieve something she had being trying to do for quite some time.

Ah, but was this not proof that where there was a will there was a way?

A smile lined her lips as she reached to collect the plank again and toss it towards the trash cans where she had originally found it. It was clearly garden waste and while someone might have been able to use it before it certainly wasn't usable now.

Alas, she had a bit of a habit of finding herself in alleyways and parks and this evening was no exception, oblivious to the goings on in the busier streets a further walk down from here, she'd been more interested in keeping herself alive than remaining aware to whatever might have been around her.

Sometimes, to get something done, you just need to get some assistance. Luckily for Chip, there was no lack of Lieutenants around whom he good shanghai into his activities.

Of course, needing someone to take him around Destiny City complicated matters a bit, since the Lieutenants needed help for that, but only a little bit. Just ask their boss, and oops, time to do what the kitty says!

Which was, of course, exactly what Chip did. The big Lieutenant who "agreed" to come along didn't seem terribly pleased by it, but he didn't complain, which suited Chip fine. He just needed a human to move things around for him as he collected readings for a project which he may have neglected to not explain to his assistant of the day.

And said "assistant," Lieutenant Tetrahedrite, was perfectly willing to go along with this strange journey around the city. He had never really interacted with one of the "guardian cats" before, and it was... surreal, even if he no longer found Youma, and the like, to be insanity.

He was waiting patiently for the absurdly small cat to finish wedging some sort of odd metallic object into a spot on a second story window sill when he realized there was more than just a youma nearby...there was one of those order people about as well.

Thanks to the cat, they couldn't be detected, so he didn't worry about it, until the youma's aura vanished. "It may be time to hurry, little one," Tetra said evenly. "Someone is coming."

"Oh?" Chip replied. "Oh, yeah! Neat. Almost done...just wait there," he told the lieutenant lightly. That he was down there with his arms crossed and looking ever so slightly annoyed mattered not to the little cat. "And...there!"

With absolutely no preamble at all, he jumped down at Tetra, who had only a brief moment to adjust his position slightly and catch the cat, eliciting a pleased giggle from Chip.

"Must you do that every time?" Tetra asked, as he gently let the cat onto his shoulder again. The only reply was a grin and the little cat flopping on the shoulder like a tiny potato sack. And then a senshi walked around the corner. Tetra didn't bother pulling out his "weapon," as it was beyond useless, so he just faced toward her and said evenly, "Bit of a dangerous place to be walking around alone, isn't it?"

Well s**t...

She'd come round the corner with a measure of confidence and this betrayed her somewhat as Tetra revealed that he was, in fact, nearby. Or he had been 'nearby', now he was in her immediate vicinity and for reasons beyond her comprehension she hadn't sensed him. Her facial features had already moulded into an expression of surprise, even before she had fully come to terms with what was in front of her.

Negaverse - check.
Unarmed - check.
Hostile - To be confirmed.

What she hadn't expected was for the companion on his shoulder to be quite so recognisable. She'd met that cat before, that was the mauvian who had given her the advice about the youma before!

"Only if you don't know what you're doing," she replied after a moment and shook her head. "I've gotten used to finding your buddies," she furrowed her brow gently.

"But none of them managed to pull off that," she lifted her chin.

"How'd you keep yourself invisible?" she demanded, though now that she'd seen some of the less pleasant Negaverse, she was less inclined to let her guard down and was at least trying to be mindful of whatever might be to hand to grab if she had to upgrade from Youma to 'actual person'.

Not everyone was friendly, she'd been warned of that one more than once now...

Tetra crossed his arms and frowned ever so slightly. He cut a bit of an imposing figure, even if he wasn't as tall as some Americans. He'd been told that these 'cats' were closely linked with the senshis, so they would probably know how they worked. That this one didn't was interesting.

"A good question," he allowed. "One that surely bears a need for more study." He shook his head. "But this isn't really the time or place for that."

Chip, of course, had no such reticence and said cheerfully, "Why, I do it, Purple Girl," he declared happily, prompting a bit of a side-eye from the lieutenant upon which he rode. "We Mauvians can hide auras real well!" He nodded quickly, his hat bobbing a bit.

"...Regardless," Tetra said flatly, "You would do well to come along quietly with me. There are people who would like to..." He tilted his head ever so slightly to the side for a brief moment, "meet with you, and it goes much better if you don't fight it."

"We're not done yet, though! I've got 6 more--" Chip started to protest

"We'll get back to it," Tetra replied evenly, his eyes remaining focused on the senshi.

Definitely hostile.

Adorea's lips twisted into something akin to discomfort at the prospect of yet another unpleasant encounter. As lucky as she had been to successfully take down the smaller youma, she still had a measure of uncertainty about something capable of talking back. Her eyes flicked briefly towards the Mauvian and then she shook her head, she'd be lying if she said she wasn't disappointed that he was one of them...he'd been so friendly and everything.

"That makes sense," she said after a moment, offering a half smile to Chip who had at least deemed it worth answering. Regardless of what his companion may have wanted (or not wanted), Chip was more than happy to share. Useful for her but no doubt a source of irritation for this particular agent who seemed less inclined to be quite so helpful.

"Yeah see, here's the thing..." She cleared her throat and held both arms apart, a loose shrug rolling her shoulders. "I have it on good authority that I'm really not supposed to go anywhere with you," she pointed out. "Bad things happen and all that jazz, people get hurt, hearts get ripped out," she raised a brow. "Which I'm sure is just a Tuesday night for you but for some of us that's not all that cool," she added.

A pause followed.

"But I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you're probably not big on free will, choice, self determination..." she furrowed her brow. "And your lovely kitten there wants to go back to go back to treasure hunting which is way more important than any unscheduled appointments so," she took a breath.

"I suppose we should get this over with shouldn't we?" she lifted her hand and beckoned. "Let's give this a whirl then, see how I go."

Worst case scenario she could run, that she was getting better at and given how much of her time she'd spent running snce she got this 'job' her stamina levels were improving.

“I won’t kill someone for no reason,” Tetra replied evenly. “And you are far more useful alive than dead, although nothing says you need be conscious.”

Perhaps it was a flair for absurdity (the tiny, talking kitten with a top hat certainly lent itself to that), or maybe it was just magic being chaotic but when the Lieutenant shifted his stance into a fighting position, a brightly colored (and loaded) Nerf pistol appeared in his hand. His eyes darted toward it for a brief moment, then he pointed it at the Senshi, as if it were a dangerous weapon.

“Last chance,” he said. “Submit, or you’re in for a world of hurt.”

Chip, for his part, didn’t especially like the idea of fighting a senshi whom he was cultivating a relationship with, but it wouldn’t be proper to stop the lieutenant. He stayed where he was, gripping on a little tighter. “How about we don’t beat up every senshi we see?” He asked. “It’d be so much faster to just ignore them!” He got a little scoff in reply.

"Uhhh..."

She probably could have been more eloquent and maybe in a past life she was, however at this particular moment in time she could do nothing more than stare at the weapon he'd drawn. She'd been warned not to trust these guys but would they really go so far as to carry one of those? She knew what those things were, they were those silly guns that shot foam darts at people and the guys in her classes often shot them at each other or occasionally the professor during particularly laid back moments.

"I'll risk it," she said finally and glanced briefly at Chip who had her support in regards to his opinion. She'd have much preferred to have said hello and been on her merry way, it didn't look like Tetra had done anything yet and well...Chip was hunting for trinkets again. Nevertheless it seemed like the Mauvian's companion had a point to prove and he wouldn't be backing down on this one.

"I for one, value my autonomy and I'd like to keep it that way," she cleared her throat and beckoned again. "So uh...yeah, go ahead and fire that at me, let's see how that works for you," she dared him, a half smile on her lips. She had no reason to be so cocky but evidently the adrenaline from her small victory around the corner was still with her.

She wasn't afraid of any foam darts; she'd take that abuse easily.

...It was when he threw a punch that she might re-evaluate the situation.

Tetra did the only sensible thing at that point.

He shot her.

Granted, it turned out that it really was a nerf gun, as a little rubber-tipped foam dart launched out of it straight at her. It had pretty good aim for a nerf gun, anyway.

The real danger of the situation, though, wasn't the fact that he pulled the trigger. No, the actual content of his attack was to shoot, and while it was still sailing toward the senshi, lunge forward, a fist ready to slam into her. He clearly had no reservations about 'hitting a girl.'

Chip, for his part, mostly just held on for dear life. He hadn't actually witnessed this lieutenant (or any other, if he really considered the point) fighting a senshi before. Especially not gripping onto his coat tightly, tail flapping in the breeze behind him.

It was probably for the best that the coat seemed rather thick.

She was exceedingly lucky that her confidence didn't get her killed, after all, there were those who could intentionally hide that their weapon was real. The fact that Tetra's was definitely a nerf gun had more to do with luck than anything. After all, how many times had she been warned not to trust these people? She knew what they did to others so why on earth would she challenge them with a live weapon?

...Food for thought at a later date.

The little foam bullet struck her shoulder and she glanced briefly at it, just enough time for Tetra to cover the ground he needed. With no time to step out of the way, the most she could do was attempt to deflect, sliding out her hands to cup and redirect his punch. Admittedly this would have a very limited affect, while she had seen these moves on tv that didn't mean she really understood how to use them.

It was enough of a force to slide her back, to make her stumble and briefly hesitate. More importantly each part of her body from arm to palm began to ache from the moment she had achieved any measure of a deflection.

Ow.

But...best not to show he'd done anything right?

Her wrinkled nose betrayed her thoughts as she stepped backwards slightly and seemed to make herself more square, lowering her centre of gravity slightly and putting her arms up again in the way Castor had taught her. She'd wait for her moment and then try, one solid punch would at least stall him enough to reconsider, that's how it was supposed to work anyway.

The Lieutenant, apparently, was not one for idleness, for even as she slid back to recover, he pressed forward. She had the time to bring up her arms and get her stance, but not much more than that, as almost immediately he was launching a fist at her again.

His face held a look of quiet determination.

Chip looked like he was having fun all of a sudden, as he'd shifted his grip on Tetra's shoulder, and was in more of a 'ready to pounce' type pose, tail flapping in the breeze of the lieutenant's motion behind.

"A strong hit from Tetra," he chirped, apparently deciding to do some color commentary along the way, "But Dory looks like she's ready to rumble, now!"

The fact that he knew the senshi's name caused Tetra's brows to furrow slightly, but he remained intent on his course for the moment.

(Just for me to see if icly Dory absorbed any of castor's lesson! 1 = Tera hits with no issues, 2 = she'll have some sort of reaction!)

Her stance might have been right but the rest of the lesson hadn't sunk in yet, whether it was due to the need for more practice or that boxing really wasn't her thing, was very much open to debate. Regardless, Tera's punch came so suddenly that she wasn't able to get her arms into the right position to prevent it from colliding.

It was a bit of a wallop, one she was used to by now from quite a number of youma, but something she hadn't gotten used to yet.

She gave a grunt as she reeled backwards, lifting her hand briefly to touch her chin. Well that was going to leave a mark, she'd be swollen if she didn't put ice on it fairly snappily!

Had it not been for Chip's commentating (he'd have made quite the pundit) she wouldn't have snapped out of her temporary shock so quickly.

You gotta punch too! Her brain reminded her.

Unsurprisingly, she did as she was told and lunged forward to return the favour.

Tetra knocked back the senshi, and moved to press his advantage. She had recovered her wits some, though, and struck back before he could. Luckily, he was prepared, and deflected the hit. "Too slow," he grunted, shoving her to the side.

"Oh, she's up and feisty," Chip sang out, still gripping on to the lieutenant's coat carefully. "But can Dory withstand the pressure of a such a skilled fighter?"

This whole punching thing wasn't really working, each time she lunged he just moved away. When push came to shove she was a little out of her depth in a hand-to-hand situation. Boxing would have to be parked for the time being, she needed significantly more practice before she could reliably use it... but if she couldn't use that then what could she do?

"Chip you're really distracting!" she retorted, hopping away from Tera as he smoothly deflected her blow. She spun round and pointed directly at him with a snort. "Cute, but very distracting," she added and quickly spun round to stride away with considerable purpose towards, well, a wall.

"But your friend has a bad temper," she added and swept something up from behind it, pulling out what seemed to be a rock. Well these did seem to work quite well for her against youma.

"No wonder he freaks out those youma for you," she mused and tossed the heavy stone from one hand to another. It wouldn't be perfect, but she'd wait for her chance and then nail him with that instead... Operating from a distance seemed safer if she didn't want another black eye after all.

A rock changed things a little, so Tetra stopped. The force a powered person could put into something was... most unpleasant, and he did not fancy getting nailed in the head with a rock, so he watched her cautiously...and let the cat chatter on.

”Maybe a little,” Chip agreed with a snicker. “But where’s the fun in it if I can’t distract you some, hmm?” He eyed the rock, too. “Oh, Dory’s getting serious, now!” He said as he observed what she was doing. “The question is, will Tetra retreat, or deal with the rock like any other obstacle? Bowl it over~?”

”Time will tell,” the lieutenant responded softly, eyes never wavering from watching the now-armed senshi.

A prolonged battle wasn't going to end in her favour, not yet at least. Until she found a way to utilise her own abilities she was going to find herself at a disadvantage. She had to end these quickly or get out, that was something she was slowly but surely learning and based on how quickly Tetra could move it was clear that this was one of those occasions.

Chatterbox cat aside, she needed to be mindful of how best to approach this.

It was for this reason that she kept bouncing the rock from one hand to the other as she took a number of steps back and forth. For the most part she gave no indication as to what her intentions were (beyond throwing it at some point), and then sure enough she threw it. Casting the rock in the general direction of, well, Chip actually.

She had faith the cat would at least be quick enough to bounce off (and if not she'd apologise later somehow), but right now what she needed was a distraction and then she needed to bail. This was as good an opportunity as any, but she'd sure as hell be back when she worked out how to be more useful than an umbrella in a windstorm.
