"The Hare Rush is once a year, I'll win the next for sure! With a jump and a snap, it'll hit my trap And when they put me on their backs They'll say, 'Oh, Hazel, you're mature!'"
The pup was currently exploring The Hollow with great glee, not because of its acoustics (those were terrible inside a dead tree, though she did enjoy the slight echo) but because it was so huge and old. How did trees even do that?! She simply had to investigate for herself and ask some locals. Hazel couldn't possibly just find someone in Swiftfell to ask, no sir, she needed to explore. And sing while she worked.
"Hmm...Could use some work," she thought aloud. "Mature's good but, like, who even says that when you're the champion? Hmmmmmmmm..."
She paused when she saw an eye-level opening in the wooden walls and peeked through it. Oh, what a beautiful flower on the other side! She had to bring it home and show her family. "Sorry, oldie," she said to the tree hollow before she started to try and dig her way out, using the opening as a starting point. "I mean, you're dead, though, right? So I guess you can't feel this anyway."

Forest Shadow had never been in the Hallow before it was very interesting and she was curious to see what it was like inside. Perhaps there would be some interesting plants inside that she could use in her tiny den at the edge of the forest. She had been living alone for a long time. Her parents had both been rogue wolves and never encouraged her to peek out a pack to join. She made her way inside and spotted a pup digging in the tree. She blinked wondering what they were doing here on their own. She looked around to see if their parents were about since she didn't want to get into a fight. "Umm hello there?" She greeted a bit nervous.

"Helloooooooooo~!" Hazel sing-sang back, her voice echoing faintly in the giant log. She peeked through the hole already made at the other wolf. "Did you want to come check this place out, too? Hold on, lemme make an entrance!"
She stepped back, took a deep breath, and then rand forward, jamming her shoulder into the rotting wood. It gave with a loud crack, and the pup tumbled forward onto the shards. "There we go! Ow..."
Hazel sprang back up with puppy verve. "Never seen you before. You live here?"

Forest Shadow looked at the very forward brave little pup. She listened and then said "Well yes I did come here to explore." She then waited for the pup to make the entrance they wanted to make. She blinked a moment not understanding why the pup decided to charge the log. "Are you alright?" Forest Shadow asked in a gentle tone. She shook her head "No I've never been here before, I'm Forest Shadow just your run of the mill rogue. What are you doing here by yourself? Won't your parents be worried?" She looked around again wondering if she would be knocked over by a mother wolf at any moment.

"Nah," Hazel assured her as she shook the fragments of Old Wolf Tree out of her fur. It looked more like a ripple through her spine than a full body effort at once. "I mean, we have a lot of caretakers, so I'll probably get in trouble later!"
This did not seem to concern her.
"Rogue means you're by yourself, right? So do you travel a lot?" Hazel looked curiously up at her. "That's what I'm doing! Well, except for the whole leaving home part, but ehhhhh." She shrugged. "Actually, I'm scouting, if anyone asks you. That's like exploring except the pack lets you! It's a whole job!"

Forest Shadow smiled at the little pup, who had yet to give her, her name. Forest didn't mind though since they had only just met and it was very possible the little pup was just protecting herself. Considering that Forest was a rogue it made sense that she would not be given too much information. She didn't mind. She smiled "Well I hope you don't get into too much trouble, but I suppose an adventure is worth a little bit of trouble." It was very clear to see that the pup didn't fear trouble and Forest Shadow saw no reason to argue. She nodded and then said "Yes I live alone." She considered the question "I'm not sure if I'd say I travel a lot, I call the forest my home for now." She smiled "I'm sure you will be a very skilled Scout or perhaps you already are?" She hedged thou she was pretty sure she already knew the answer the pup was too young for a scouting rank.

"I dunno if I wanna be a scout or a hunter," Hazel said with a shrug. "Can I be both? You're, like, basically doing the same thing anyway: going around sniffing things out. I come out here n' practice any time I can, 'cause the Hare Rush is coming up, so I gotta hone my skiiiiiiiillsssssss."
She crouched and then pounced for the she-wolf's paws to demonstrate her immense catching skills.
"Then they'll tell stories about me!" she added proudly. "I'll get super famous."

Forest Shadow listened and considered the question "Well I have to scout on my own and hunt on my own I have no choice in the matter, you are lucky you have a pack to help you with various tasks of survival. What is the Hare Rush?" She asked curious as to what the event was going to be about. Forest laughed and smiled "I'm sure you will be a wonder as you grow up." She looked around wondering if they should both be leaving the Hallow soon, would the area become more dangerous as the day wore on? Were there powerful creatures that stalked the Hallow at night?

"I'm lucky I have them!" she agreed before pointedly adding, "But I can hunt for myself too, yanno. I found you, didn't I?" A wonder she would be indeed - not one to outshine her siblings, who absolutely deserved the attention, but just enough to sparkle and be seen, she hoped.
At Forest Shadow's question, Hazel perked. Grinning, she began to dance and hop around the adult, explaining in a singsong voice. "The Hare Rush comes once a year~ With a painted hare, the winner's clear~ Compete and hunt with all your might~ Or give the hare a big ol' fright~!" She giggled.
"It's this big thing my pack has. They paint a random hare's tail red, and then everyone has to chase it! Whoever catches it first is the winner! I know when we're big enough, my sister Maple will win it."

Forest Shadow smiled "You are very lucky." She was thinking of joining a pack and Swiftfell sounded nice. "You did indeed." She said in a warm tone. "That sounds like a lot of fun, do you think your pack would accept me to join?" She asked the little pup. She frowned when Kazel said Maple would be the winner "Aren't you going to hunt for the hare too? Why do you think your sister will win?"
