Wolframite had slept for the better part of 2 days and after had spent the rest of the week working and looking into a few things about Negaverse ruins. While they still had lunch and dinner, they hadn't hung out for days. That evening, Wolfy sent her to message on his tablet asking if she was busy. When he found she wasn't, he got up and knocked on her door.

Lavendulan turned off her dremel tool then reached for the purple velvet bag and dropped her current project off inside. “It’s open!” she called out.
Leaning over she opened the bottom drawer of her desk and set the bag inside before setting about cleaning up her work station of all the rock dust and small stone fragments. The tools were stowed away in a hard case with compartmental areas; one small cube space for each different kind of dremel head. “Sorry, I kind of lost track of time.”
Perhaps I should move my clock over here instead… a thought to consider since, where it was at, she’d have to turn around to see it.
In a row along her desk there were various projects in different stages. Two had sketches done in a blue colored pencil, random swirl like patterns that wrapped around the egg shaped rocks, while the other two were smaller and more flat and had words carved into them. The last one, however, was very decidedly broken and laid in three big chunks; a failed project but at least it didn’t cost her anything but time.
Her bed had been made and on it, next to her pillows, was the floppy purple wolf he had won her at the faire.

Coming in, he shut the door and went over to peek at what she was doing. While he carved, he always used his claws and had a hard time doing anything precise. A tool like that could be useful but he was using crystal and not stone, not to mention his grip was bad with his hands as large as they were. That aside, she seemed to have a eye for details and he envious at the precision of her work.
"You should get a fan or wear a mask with all this dust."
Moving over, he plopped himself on her bed and reached out for the plushie to inspect it. He only held it a few times, bit it was something warm to see it on her bed. Since he really hadn't laid in her bed before, he took a moment to breath in the smell of it and the room.
"You name it yet?" He asked as he held the plushie up and gave it a toss up into the air as he laid back on the bed.
"So - was wondering if you wanted to go into the Rift today?"

“Hati,” Laven opened a drawer and lifted a dust mask to show she had one. Without it he’d be hearing her sneezing up a storm. There was also a pair of craftsman glasses to keep little chips of rock from flying in her eye. “The wolf from Norse mythology that chases the moon.” Seemed fitting since they themselves really only got to go out and about at night time unless glamoured. Once the last of her mess had been taken care of, she got up and pushed her chair under her desk then walked across her room to sit on the bed beside him. “Not as soft as your,” Laven ran her hand over the light blue comforter. “But at least it’s warm.” Although she’d never admit it out loud, there was a part of her that wanted to steal his bed for a few hours and take naps on it again which was strange because she never really cared too much for fur’s before; always tickled her nose making it hard to sleep. But since that night she has had that urge to rub her face against, or sleep on something soft. Just another personality quirk she readily pointed the finger at her youma side and it in turn seemed content to accept the blame with a sigh against her consciousness. “Before we go anywhere though. Why don’t you give me a little bit of back history about the Rift first? You said that you were there when the doors opened. What kind of things can I expect?” Despite her willingness to accompany him Laven felt justifiably wary since, from her limited knowledge, she recalled someone saying that’s where youma dwelled.

He looked over at her, hair falling in his face. It was getting longer and he still hadn't decided if he wanted to get it cut or not.
"If you want some furs, you could just ask. I can always give you some." He said, and heaving himself up, set Hati back in place.
"I find the furs warm and comfortable. It's a hobby of mine to hunt things down and then treat the skins. It won't hurt me any to let you have some if the ones I get. I have a batch going now. A few rabbits, racoons, and a fox." He said. He didn't deal with anything smaller than a large rabbit because they were too small and not worth the effort. Then again, he'd make exceptions for a mink or other rare find but Destiny City wasn't going to deliver him one of those naturally any time soon.
"Well, first we go into the castle and walk down to the main doors that are massive. They are open now of course. There you walk into the Hall of Shadows. It's a small hallway so you can't really all go side by side. It's made of dark crystal but you can see dark shadow being in there with glowing eyes. You can hear them too. They protect the Rift by seeing who comes in and go goes out and they'll grab whenever isn't supposed to be there." He grabbed her shoulder.
"But youma dislike senshi, so corrupted senshi need to always be with an officer or else they might get pulled into the wall. But we're half-youma which means they tend to tolerate us a lot more. They bother you less the higher rank you are."
He released her arm.
"After that, you walk into the Rift. It's rocky and jagged with lots of Negaverse crystals. It has a purple glow like it's always dusk there a d sometimes you can see lightening storms here and there. Sometimes there are cracks so long and deep you can't see the bottom."
"But here you'll see every kind of youma around. They find their homes in every place and some roam together or fly above. There used to be a town I once went to that had a bar. I got to drink there once but the place shifted and I haven't been able to get there since."
He watched her now. "You can even sometimes see massive ones in the distance. They say there are collosal youma just sleeping waiting to wake up. Can you imagine that power? To wake a ancient youma like that."

Had she not of somewhat expected it, Laven would have jumped when he grabbed ahold of her shoulders. Instead she just gave him a look that appeared to be rather unamused with one brow raised in a way that made it impossible not to guess what went through her mind in that split moment.
Seriously? Rather than interrupt him she listened intently as Wolframite walked through the steps and explained what to expect at each phase and only when he was done did she give rise to a few concerns.
“Please tell me that’s not why you want to go… Right? You’re not actively looking to wake up some sleeping youma that will probably eat us because A. it realizes it has the morning munchies, or B. it is royally pissed off.” A part of her was honestly teasing him since she knew he wouldn’t intentionally put her in harms way like that. “I’m just joking,” she admitted before he could return the look she had given him earlier.
“Honestly though, the part that has me most worried is the hall you mentioned. What happens if one of those things grabs one of us? Do we just get pushed back out into the castle?” The lightning storms were also something of a concern for her as her magic turned her body into water which well wouldn’t feel too great if she got struck by a bolt.

"Not for this trip. No. If I'd wake a youma.like that, I'd need a rather impressive offering. A mountain of starseeds and energy." He said, leaning back on both hands as he thought about.
"And it wouldn't be the first time I asked a youma for aid. I used to have a personal Youma myself. Then there was a time I asked for a large flea youma and her broad to help me with something. They are very valuable if you know how to bargain with them and some do." He said.
"But no, we're going because it's good to know who we are and, when the time comes, to know where to get a partner. The Rift is also our history and not because we're half-youma. It's all our history."
He leaned back again.
"I don't think you get spit out from the Hall of Shadows. I always thought you'd just be torn to bits or become one of them. They - feel like angry, trapped, forever angry at the Moon Princess for making them what they are."
He slid his gaze to her. "But you're not a Mauvian or Senshi. You won't get attacked, and I'll be there. You won't get dragged in. I've been to the Rift dozens of times. It will be fine." He nudged her with his shoulder.

“Alright, I trust you.” As of yet, he had never given her any reason to doubt him, no point in starting now. “Just don’t be surprised if I get scared and grab ahold of your paw.” Laven poked him in the shoulder as she offered a fair warning then pushed herself off the bed and motioned for him to follow. ”You can explain more while we walk to the castle.” Her experience with youma was limited to the ones that roamed around the Dark Kingdom and those tied to officers that followed at their heel. I wonder if he’s hoping to find a new one to place his previous one.“So…” Laven hesitated in asking her question. “What happened to your previous youma?” Perhaps that might have been an insensitive way of asking but she wasn’t entirely sure how to phrase it since it was still a new-ish concept to her. From what he explained before, unlike the two of them, when youma die they reappear in the Rift. Maybe he’s trying to find his old one. Now that would be kind of neat if they could be reunited!

Getting up, he patted her on the back. "You can hold my hand. I'll even admit that it was pretty terrifying my first time too. It gets to you seeing them trapped there clawing at the walls."
He gave a visible shiver as they left her room and headed towards the castle.
The question wasn't out if left field but he wasn't sure how exactly to phrase it without opening the whole can of worms that was his defection.
"I - left him at one point. When I came back, he wasn't happy. I went to find him in the Rift since I couldn't summon him anymore. He was pissed and tried to kill me so - yeah. I don't think he wants to be my partner anymore."
"He was a good partner though. I named him Gawain, like the knight. He is a youma in a suit if armor with a lance. Saved my a** a few times when I got over my head. Pulled me out if Destiny City's River when Scylla's kraken tried to drown me." He looked ahead, reminiscing and lost in a memory.
"I used to go to the Rift to talk to him. He didn't really talk but he kinda grunted? I think he liked the company or maybe he just put up with me showing up. I wonder if he is with another officer now or just decided not to bother after deal with me." He said, breathing out a sigh before looking over at her.
"I'm kinda curious how being a half-youma will feel like having a personal Youma. Each one is so different and here I am hoping that maybe I could understand them better. I really have no idea who I'd want in a partner."
He walked the walkway that lead to the front of the castle. "What would you like in a partner?"

A youma with a lance. Sounds like the perfect guardian or bodyguard. Especially for someone who didn’t receive a weapon of their own. The idea of finding one like Gawain sounded like a smart choice but the idea of a suit of armour following her around was a bit unnerving especially if it didn’t speak.
“I suppose I’d like to find one that resonates with me.” Similar in nature and preferably one that had similar attributes. Seeking a youma that was more attuned with an opposing element would likely get her hurt. But ice, or steam, something she could synergize with would be highly beneficial .“A companion that can compensate for some of my flaws that will fight with me not for me.”
It bothered her greatly when Wolframite admitted that there were officers that treated him like a pet. Even if said youma existed and it was bound to her, Lavendulan refused to treat it like something to be used.
As she walked beside him, her mind seemed to wander at the various possibilities. And yet, the one trait she seemed to keep coming back to were eyes. Intelligent or wise look in its eyes that could see her for what she was and accept her as she would in turn accept it. What she truly wanted was that connection.
“Why did you leave Gawain?” She asked, tilting her head inquisitively. “It is ok if you prefer not to answer. But if he fought with you and saved your life, I don't understand why you would leave him."

"Good choice though even if you like a youma, they got to agree to it. Some might want to fight you to see if you can best them. That you're worth it. Some just don't want anyone." He said as they made it into the castle.
The sound of their heels echoed in the polished dark stone of the castle as purple torches it the place. Here he knew of the main meeting rooms. The throne room. The place where Nealite and Charonite's crystal was kept. The Traitor's Hall. Metallia.
All here.
Her question made him tense. He had been avoiding telling Laven about his past but not because of what happened, but moreso about purification. She had been forced into a life and a creature she didn't want and was making the best of it, but she didn't know she could be human again. She didn't know about change sides. She didn't know there was an option to leave and maybe go back to her old life.
And he didn't think now, still new, that he wanted to test her budding loyalties with such a temptation.
"I - left for a while. It wasn't anything against him. I just couldn't be here. He didn't take my absence well." He managed.
"The doors are down these stairs. This way." He said as he started to walk down. "You can't teleport into or out of the Rift. That's why you need to be careful in there." He said as he moved down.

“I see,” Laven fell silent beside him as it seemed she accepted his answer for what it was and decided it wasn’t her place to press him for more information. When the door came into view, she paused on the stair step awestruck by this gateway to the Rift. There was a part of her that was excited about this new adventure but the other kept her rooted in place. “What if we encounter something dangerous? Can you teleport us back to the gate at least?” More than anything she wanted to peek inside and see what lies beyond the hallway, but the unknown was a very terrifying thing. So at odds with herself, Laven looked to winter as a child would before jumping off the diving board into the deep end of a pool for the first time.

"You can't teleport in the Rift. Not even a hop in any direction. This is a youma Haven. The Hall of Shadows is the security. If you could teleport in there, then the youma wouldn't be safe. The shadows are the guardians. You'll be fine."
Then, thinking, he turned his back to her and offered a claw. "How about I follow your example. Hold onto my wrist and you can look at my back. Umm..." He stared at his tail which might cause issues with being behind him. "If you don't pull it - I guess you could hold my tail just be careful with it."
"I can hum a bit."

Her eyes followed his and after a second she shook her head. “It’s okay. I’d rather not risk it.” There was no guarantee what her reaction would be and the last thing she wanted was to unintentionally hurt him. “Just… don’t leave me please,” wasn’t really something that needed to be said but she said it anyway. “You don’t need to hum or anything. Just… keep talking. Tell me about how you found your last youma… or something… please?” Just like at the faire, Laven held onto his wrist. It was an odd sensation, but rather than having the feeling of goosebumps race along her arms, Laven instead felt a cool shiver run up her back causing the spine -ike fin to become rigid. Thankfully her hair was long and her back was turned away from Wolframite so he couldn't see the reaction.

He let her grip his wrist which was a thick and covered in fur that went around her hand. "Alright."
He started to move towards the doors. Despite how massive the doors were, they funneled into a tall, narrow hallway. On either side was slick, dark walls and yet they were transparent enough to see the familiar glow of purple light that was all about the Negaverse.
"I actually didn't get my youma the way we do now. The Rift wasn't open back then so you didn't just get to go here and pick out a personal Youma. When I wanted to get mine, I was assigned one. I never picked Gawain. Gawain was just a youma who agreed to partner with someone. We were assigned to each other."
He said, moving down with a steady pace.
There was movement in the walls and soon there were a crowd of forming shadowy bodies with glowing eyes moving to the walls, clawing against the wall on the other side. The moved and watched them as they went.
"When I first met him, I summoned him into one of the rooms of the castle. I'd seen some of the personal Youma of my superiors. They almost always looked feral. More animal then upright. I was surprised to see him and he was very tall and large. I don't know what first impression I gave him. I'm sure he probably wasn't thrilled to be assigned some short rookie who was still in school."
