QUIET - Danny isn't much for talking, or for noise in general. He's a little creepy, actually, because he's quite good at not making a sound of any sort when he moves. He doesn't much like hunting with his father and older brothers, but he's quite good at it. Being forced to go on family hunting trips and living with the constant desire to prove himself to his older brothers resulted in him putting a lot of time and effort into honing his skills. He often forgets, actually, that most people make noise, and is prone to looming silently. He mostly keeps his thoughts to himself as well, very used to being talked over or condescended to when he tries to participate in conversations.
JUDGEMENTAL - Danny tends to judge quite quickly and quite harshly. He's not one to give people the benefit of the doubt, and usually assumes the worst of any given situation. People, he generally thinks, suck quite a lot, and he's not one to try and make excuses for bad behavior. He finds that if he assumes everyone's a jerk, he's less likely to be disappointed when they prove it. This line of thinking also has the handy side effect of making him not care much if people think he's also a jerk, which results in him being one quite often. Most of the time he does deign to speak, it's to insult someone.
AWKWARD - It's been joked more than once that his older brothers got all the charisma; William and Michael are easy to like, both being very charming and reading people well. Daniel, in contrast, doesn't know what to do with himself around others. He rarely bothers to try, and when he does, the results are usually disastrous. He has trouble connecting to other people, in part because he thinks very little of them, and in part because he thinks a little too much of himself. He has a habit of making conversations about himself, and doesn't understand why people are so bothered when he interjects his own stories into their conversations. His mother says he has a tendency to 'bigger fish' people, to try and one-up them and always come off as the best. The most that can be said for him in this respect is that, at the very least, he's always honest.
CAUTIOUS - Danny likes to think his way through things rather than barrel headfirst into them. He often agonizes over decision making, trying to come at any given situation from all angles and figure out the best plan before moving even an inch in any given direction. He figures that, if he makes a mistake, it's less his fault, and more because of outside influences he couldn't possibly have predicted. Of course, he tends to put very little stock in the notion of free will, so mostly nothing can be his fault at all, or anyone else's for that matter. Still, that doesn't stop him from overthinking things more often than not.
FATALISTIC - While Danny doesn't much believe in any higher power, God or otherwise, he does tend to think that things are the way they are, and will be the way they will be, and that there's not much to be done for any of it. People, he thinks, are predictable, set in their ways and easily read if you're well-versed in philosophy and psychology. If a person can be predicted, then their actions aren't really their own, or so he tells people. Generally, he's of the opinion that even if people had free will, they were still subject to the mercy of the universe, and that things outside their control would always have more influence on reality than their paltry actions.
INTELLIGENT - Danny has always been smart, sometimes too smart for his own good. In elementary and middle school, his test scores were frequently subject of scrutiny among the staff, many of whom were convinced he was cheating somehow. He never seemed to pay attention in class, didn't do his homework, and was a general pain in the a**, but somehow always got perfect scores. When he got to the essay-writing grade levels, this only worsened with people outright accusing him of plagiarism or even speculating that his family was doing his work for him. Still, nothing was ever able to be proven, and he was relieved to graduate high school and move on to college, where he assumed his intellect would be more appreciated. This didn't quite prove to be the case, but he's not quite aware of the fact that it's his attitude, not his brains, that were the problem there.
Strengths and Weaknesses x■ Danny is very intelligent with an excellent memory and good problem solving skills, but tends to overthink things and hesitate as a result x■ He's a pessimist by nature, but it tends to make him more emotionally resilient since he's always expecting a worst-case scenario; anything better than that comes as a pleasant surprise x■ Danny doesn't interact well with other people, but he's an excellent observer and often catches things other people miss in conversations Fears x■ Being eaten x■ Losing his brother x■ Drowning Special Skills x■ Hunting x■ Cooking x■ Basic medical knowledge

xX BACKSTORY - PRE-OUTBREAK xxxxxx
spaceDaniel was the third and youngest son of Samuel and Violet Graves. His childhood was largely uneventful, and he spent most of it by himself, playing video games on his older brother's old systems and reading fantasy and science fiction novels. His oldest brother was already twelve when he was born, and it's hard for Danny to conceptualize him as his brother, because he always felt more like a third, very annoying parent. One would think he'd be closer to Michael, who was only three years his senior, but Mike thought that Liam hung the moon, and spent most of his childhood trailing the oldest Graves brother like a loyal puppy. This left Danny alone more often than not. Their parents, while good and loving, were by that point somewhat worn down, and relied heavily on Liam and later Michael to see to looking after their youngest. The most attention Danny ever got was when he went with their father on hunting trips without the two older boys, which he both hated and loved in equal measure.
spaceIn school, Danny often struggled to focus. His older brother took to teaching from a fairly young age, and noticed pretty early on that Danny was a very intelligent child. He opted to spend most of his time with his youngest brother reading and teaching him things that were beyond his actual grade level, only slowing down when they reached something Danny struggled with. It didn't generally last long, and soon they were off again. This resulted in the lessons he attended in school failing to hold his attention, since most of it was stuff that he'd already covered with Liam. He was in constant trouble for failing to pay attention in class. He also tended to lie about having homework, since he could see no point in bothering to do it, since he already understood the curriculum just fine.
spaceWhen Liam graduated high school and moved on to college, Danny felt somewhat abandoned and betrayed by his oldest brother, and grew very sullen. He didn't have anyone around continuing to challenge him, and his performance in school suffered even more. He acquired a reputation as an arrogant loner, and only sought to improve his grades when he realized that doing so might allow him to graduate high school early, something which seemed completely ideal to him. Having not prepared himself for this ahead of time, he was only able to graduate one year early, but it was still better than nothing.
spaceDanny elected to stay close to home, not knowing what to do with himself too far outside his comfort zone. He ended up attending the same college Liam taught at, and took his brother's entry level course at the earliest opportunity. Liam hated having Danny in class, which was just fine with Danny, who purposefully tried to wind his brother up as a subtle revenge for 'abandoning' him all those years ago. He made quite a nuisance of himself in both the philosophy and psychology departments, bringing his bad attitude along with him. He never spoke so much as he did in those classes, specifically to patronize his classmates and sometimes even the professors.
spaceUnlike most, Danny knew something was going on pretty early on; he watched the news, and it suited his arrogance to scoff at people for being too blind to see what was coming more than it did to follow the crowd and assume it was a hoax. Still, there was a small part of him that believed the reports were ludicrous, so his attention to what was happening was more or less cancelled out. He found himself realizing the true extent of the situation a little too late, but was thankful for his hesitation. Had he acted sooner, he would've gone to his parent's home in Dallas, and ended up caught up in the first real wave of chaos. Instead, he headed to Rockwall and to Liam, figuring that if his parents and Michael were alive, they would be there as well. He found his sister-in-law readying to leave their home; Liam was planning on them living on his boat until things blew over. She wouldn't abandon family, of course, and invited him to come along. Unfortunately, they got caught in a traffic jam; not wanting to risk being stuck, they abandoned the car, and tried to make it to the docks on foot.
spaceDanny's not entirely sure what happened. One second, they were walking, and the next, Carol was screaming. When he turned to help her, there were three people on her, latched onto her arms and neck. He froze for a moment, snapping back to himself when she yelled for him to run. He did run, forcing himself not to stop until he made it to the docks. He found his brother quickly enough, and told him they had to leave. Liam refused at first, insisting on waiting for Carol, and Danny struggled to tell him that she wasn't coming. In the end, the decision was made for them; chaos broke out at the harbor as sure as it had in town, and they were forced to depart.
