. . . ◓ Mari ◓ Pacific Standard ◓ ❀❀❀ ◓ Mari Bear 🐻 #7249 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ◓ ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ◓ Romero Wicker ◓ Twenty-Four ◓ Male ◓ Neo-Pokemon Mankey ◓ Daycare Owner ◓ Sasagawa Ryouhei ◓ All Romero knew before freedom was the white, pristine labs of Team Clarity. He was born in the lab, stolen as an egg from an unknown origins. He grew up conditioned purely for the sake of fighting, and his short temper purely developed out of the lab was the perfect weapon. However, his existence purely as a fighting monster never came to be, for before any evolution could occur, he was liberated. He grew up in a pokemon sanctuary re-purposed for displaced neo-pokemon that appeared like human children; he was clearly among the elder ages and was almost not brought in due to appearing much older. What the human sanctuary owners didn't realize, however, was that despite the fact that these children appear human, they are just as violent as wild pokemon previously trained that fighting is a positive action. He was amongst the most violent of the older children and ran away several times. After six months of a back and forth, eventually the caretakers focused more on the younger children instead of looking for the constantly disappearing Romero. He became a vagrant, his childhood inherently violent behavior now settled into violence for self-defense. He felt more comfortable with the more animalistic nature of his original form moreso than the human appearance he had. He had gone relatively feral for the most part. A year after liberation he finally received what he needed--a family and sense of belonging. He was taken in by a daycare owner. The Wicker family was a modest family consisting of daycare owner Diana, her husband Neil, and their five skitties. They helped Romero trust people and got to learn the ropes of nurturing youth. It was there that he realized how he was robbed of such a thing. Just when he was finally getting used to people and life, he awoke on a foreign land he was suddenly told to call home. While upset and perhaps punched a handful too many people, he took up where he left off and reopened the Wicker Family Pokemon Daycare. With adults, his patience still runs relatively short, but he is considerably amazing with children, adolescence, and young adults.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ◓ ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬◓ Most Mankeys and Primeapes are infamous for their short-temper and violent nature, and Romero is no different. He was raised to value combat above relationships, and while he has grown and matured, there is still an innate passion that he remains stubborn to hold onto his past ideologies. He remains quite brazen in spite of his history of losing streaks and welcomes any combat conclusion--win or lose. He's quite the gracious loser in spite of his demeanor; he'll take losing as a teaching moment and will incorporate his lessons into future fights. Outside of fighting and anything to do with combat, there's mostly unexplored waters. He's known by daycare clients to be a very magnanimous individual, going out of his way to ensure the proper development is given to every egg and child put in his care. He's held his role in caring for the children of the island as an upmost priority, often checking in on the children he's helped deliver at the local school. He'll often volunteer for after school caretaker positions and do anything from arts & crafts to fun mock battles with the children. The children have often found him inspiring, albeit a bit on the dense side as well. More often than not, Romero has a hard time describing himself, but when asked to do so, one major word comes up: courageous. The self-proclaimed personality trait doesn't go unwarranted, either. He's always the first to admit fear and immediately jump into a situation. If a problem needs solving, he'll immediately go into it, regardless of whether or not he is skilled enough to handle it.
◓ The Team Clarity Kalos sector had been running rampant after the first set of successful experiments had occurred, but six years after such success, they sought to branch out into a particular set of sub-designs: neo-pokemon that look so human they'll be able to blend into normal society and act as a set of spies. Among the pokemon they focused on were those that already had close human appearances or ties. Mr. Mime, Jynx, Chimchar, Slaking, and Mankey. Due to the specificity of their research, Team Clarity mostly caught these pokemon in the wild or via smuggling from different regions. Once captured, these pokemon would be segregated into different base labs depending on their species.
One particular Mankey egg was stolen from its parents before hatching and smuggled from Hoenn, scientists determining it should be among the first spy experiment on these pokemon. Born #KMP001, this particular Mankey was born with similar mannerisms to any other Mankey--he was combat-driven and group-oriented. Being one of the first in the lab for the sake of experimentation, #KMP001 was fed lab-created rare candies to speed up the evolutionary process. Doing so turned him into a Primeape prematurely at only a year old, but that wasn't the only serious affect to his body. An unintended side-effect of using rare candy is that it can cause pokemon to lose the ability to EV train and can lower their stats compared to one that can evolve at a normal rate. Once evolved, #KMP001 was experimented on and transformed into a neo-pokemon. His behavior at this point had little conditioning, so even in an almost human form, his violent behavior was un-curbed. Being too violent to truly fit in with humans as a spy, he was labelled as a failure, and further experimentation on Mankeys and Primeapes as spies was discontinued. Even so, Team Clarity found another use for their project.
Combat conditioning was hard to truly gauge against a test doll, but using another neo-pokemon with a strong desire to fight? It made perfect sense to use a weak but constantly malicious Primeape as a target. #KMP001's decided role in the make-up of Team Clarity's grand scheme was to be a sparring doll. Once a pokemon beat him, it was deemed strong enough to fight outside of the lab, thus slowly building up the army of neo-pokemon in the Kalos region. When time for war finally came, #KMP001 was kept inside the lab as others went out into the field to face an undetermined fate.
The next three years were blurry to the teenage neo-pokemon, who suddenly found himself with fewer and fewer fellow pokemon to battle. Even so, he was never deemed suitable for outside combat due to his unwillingness to listen to orders and his generally weaker stats. However, as time passed and Team Clarity was pushed back into their bases, #KMP001 was placed as a security agent just outside of the base. Before he could even protect that place he's known as home for his entire life, however, he found himself captured by a liberation front, permanently ending his life as the combat test dummy.
Just barely considered a child, #KMP001 was placed in a pokemon sanctuary re-purposed into a foster care system for the young neo-pokemon that have been liberated. The wild and young Primeape was still on the wild side, and he would provoke fights with any other neo-pokemon he was roomed with or crossed paths with. He would also run away from the sanctuary often, only to be caught and dragged back to what was supposed to be his new temporary home. Unlike the younger neo-pokemon, he hadn't adapted well to the new changes and even kept to his old serial identification number as a name. After six months of going back and forth, the sanctuary keepers gave up on the independent young man, who practically went feral and disappeared in the woods. There, he roamed and sought the comfort of others like him, only to be left alone. He ended up sick, battered, bruised, and at the front door of a daycare barely holding onto life with his restless rage finally burning out.
When he awoke surrounded by a bunch of soft skitties, life changed dramatically. He was taken in by an elderly couple who ran a daycare. While he would try to rage, his body was finally too beat up without the healing capabilities of Team Clarity to continue his furious attempts. As his body would collapse from exhaustion, skitties would automatically surround him and purr on his chest, which allowed an unknown sense of calmness to wash over him. The elderly couple he eventually came to know as Diana and Neil Wicker, and since he had no real name to go by aside from a list of letters and numbers, they named him Romero, which stood for "Roamer" or "Traveler". Slowly, he began to trust them with their small gestures of kindness. With the couple being on the older side, he used his regained strength to help them around the daycare they took care of. With them, he would watch pokemon hatch and develop happily with their families or trainers, something Romero realized he never truly had.
Life with the Wicker family was good, and he was eventually considered like a son to the barren couple. While other people in the region would have not taken him in, he felt grateful for what they were willing to do for him. He had hoped to take care of them until they decided to retire, but Arceus had other plans. Soon, he awoke on an island with others just like him.
It took Romero some time to adapt yet again to a new life, but he came to accept it much quicker than his younger self would have. He rebuilt the daycare his "parents" ran and became a proud owner, known throughout the small island as the man to go to if you need an egg to hatch. With the coming of other humans onto the island, there was a sense of wariness at the idea. After all, humans were the ones who turned them all into what they were--but humans were also the ones who gave him a family of his own.
TDLR Raised by Team Clarity for a failed spy project and became a punching bag for other neo-pokemon. Once free, he escaped his liberators and was eventually taken in by a couple who runs a daycare. They named him and called him family until the day he awoke in New Haven. He now runs the daycare in their name.
