Jacques double checked the bag that the books were in to make sure that none of them were at an angle or were being bent in some way. He had gone to the library, a place he didn't go to very often, to check out some books. One was something that his mother wanted to borrow, though he doubted she would take more than one look at it and then it would be up to him to take it back on time, and for himself he had checked out a few books on different types of pottery. Even if he did have the internet, he liked to look at what they had in books to get inspiration or try to make the same type. It was fun for him to try out new techniques that may have been suggested, and a book was easier to read out of than constantly having to have his tablet near him.

However, it was late and the library had closed a few minutes ago. He was loitering for a bit, trying to decide if he wanted to go straight home or find some sort of cafe and get a head-start on reading. At least at a cafe he would be less likely to be bothered than at home because his mother was too lazy to go and get herself a glass of water or something.

Thankfully, her section of the library had been empty and thus Michelle was able to leave early. (Well, early for closing, anyway.) Purse slung over a shoulder, arm resting over the top of it, her shoes were silent as she made her way down the stairs and headed towards her car.

But then she saw someone lingering around so, naturally, she went over to the young man with a smile and stopped a short distance away, making sure not to step into his personal space.

"Hello, is everything alright? Do you have a way home, sir?" She had her car, if needed, but she needed to be sure everything was fine first.

Versailles was just about to check his phone, when he heard a voice behind him and he jumped. He immediately cursed in his thoughts at being caught off-guard like that, and turned around to see who had spoken to him. His shoulders relaxed as he realized it was just one of the librarians. Sure, it could have been someone from Order or Chaos, but since they weren't immediately attacking/berating him, he didn't feel as though he was in quite so much danger.

"Ah, yeah I'm fine. I was just trying to gather my thoughts and decide where to go after this." At least it seemed as though there were good people still around. But he couldn't quite trust the woman, after all, she may have been some Negaverse Agent looking for victims and he would have to expose himself is she turned out to be one.

"I was just thinking of heading to a nearby cafe or something to get a head start on all of this reading. Or trying to decide if I just wanted to go home. Tonight is so nice though that I'm having a hard time deciding." He replied, giving her a smile. "I'm assuming you're just heading home?"

"Oh, no. I mean, I could go home but...I was thinking somewhat along the same lines as you -- that it was a nice night. Plus, I have tomorrow off so it's not like I can't afford to be out for a bit." Michelle smiled, shifting her purse on her shoulder a bit.

"I don't suppose you've ever been to the little cafe that's about two blocks down? They serve a variety of teas and coffees and other drinks. It'd be nice to have some company -- though no pressure, absolutely no pressure to just, go along with it, we just met and I don't think we've even introduced ourselves. I'm Michelle."

Jacques shook his head. "I haven't but it sounds like just the place that I would want to go to." He wondered if this was okay. He was just talking to one of the librarians that he had seen just moments before. Was this okay? Or was this considered weird. He didn't know, he had never really talked to someone who wasn't a classmate that worked in a more "customer-oriented" job.

He couldn't help but smile though. "I'm Jacques, though you can call me Jack if you want." It made it a lot easier if people didn't try to pronounce his name all the time if they were just going to butcher it. "Since I don't know where it is, you want to lead the way? I'll follow." He replied holding his hand out. "Of course we can walk together, I don't mind. And I'm not saying you have to, but I've never been to it." Sometimes he wasn't sure if he was insulting someone or not. It was hard to get past telling someone to do something when he was used to doing it at home so much.

"It really is a nice little place, not somewhere a lot of people know about yet for all that it is popular among those who do know of it. This time of night it's probably a bit louder than usual, but the louder ones all tend to be in one part of the place, with those who prefer a quieter time having spaces to go themselves." It wasn't exactly common for Michelle to do such a thing, but there was nothing against it, either.

Librarians were people, too, after all.

Perhaps luckily for Jacques, Michelle at least seemed unfazed by his name or how it was pronounced. Still, "Jack, pretty close to Jacques but not entirely. Must've had a lot of trouble with your name growing up, I guess?" Not that she was familiar with that personally, but she did seem to at least know something of it. Still, seeing his hand held out, she gently took it with a smile, tugging lightly.

"It'll be easier to point it out if we're walking together. Besides, I'd be turning to look back to make sure I haven't lost you constantly and that would be a major fall hazard. I don't need any more of those than necessary." She laughed, not seeming bothered at all -- in fact, she seemed rather cheerful now.

Jacques wasn't sure if he still wanted to go if it was going to be crowded. If it was late at night he wanted to be somewhere peaceful so that he could wind down in the evening, not so that he could be wound up and have to crash. Still, it seemed that there was some sort of separation between the two groups. "Well if possible, I'd like to be on the quiet side." If they had to separate there because of it, then so be it. They had just met after all.

"I don't like to hear people continually butcher it. I would rather go for the easy route." Way too many kids had tried his name, but hearing it as "Jacks" just got on his nerve. He would rather they use an easier one. "It would be nice if people got it a bit more quickly, but sometimes I think they aren't hearing it correctly either." Subtleties in French could be hard to get if one wasn't a native.

He tugged on her hand a bit. "That's fine with me. You know the way though so I'll let you take the first step all right?" He said, grinning at her a bit. "At least this way we won't have to keep an eye on each other."

"Tonight does have a more quiet feel to it, I think. And yes, there are designated sides -- the location to get your tea or coffee is in the middle, with the more crowded and vocal side on one side with the stage, while the other side has lower lighting overall with little lights for people who are reading and just..." She let out a content sigh. "You can hear some of the other side, but it's more like a gently babbling brook background sort of sounds than hearing talking and yelling. They designed the place rather well, honestly."

Humming softly, she began walking, leading the way and watching carefully for nearby traffic -- she didn't want to get herself hit by a bike or a car, after all. "I suppose I'd do the same if people couldn't say Michelle. Unfortunately, there are people who deliberately say it wrong so it's not entirely great. People will be jerks wherever you go, but whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is what's important when it comes to what you're called."

She paused, looking both ways because they had a street to cross and...still, she didn't want to get hit. Getting hit would be bad, especially by a car, but also by a bike. Seeing nothing, she tugged on Jacques's hand and walked quickly across. "Sort of like how when we get groups of kids, I insist on Miss Michelle instead of Miss Alexander. The latter sounds so formal and...I hate formalities when they're really not necessary, know what I mean?"

"Good. I would not want to try and enjoy a tea tonight while having my ears blasted out." He got enough of that at the parties his mother threw. Who knew that with a bunch of people just talking in one room with no music that they would subtly compete for who could talk the loudest? "Can always take mine to go if it's too much though. I think it would be nice to go and sip a tea while walking home." He would have to finish it before he got there though, or else his mother would whine about him not getting her some even though she would likely reject whatever it was anyway.

Jacques of course kept his eyes open for traffic as well, but it seemed pretty quiet tonight. They would just have to be on the lookout for those without their headlights on or the motorcycles who thought they were the rulers of the road. "I believe everyone butchers every name to a degree. I think they do it more on purpose with mine though. Some people don't take to kindly to somewhat-hard-to-pronounce names." He rolled his eyes. The number of people who had laughed while butchering it was enough to make him want to punch the next person in the face who did so. And this time he would be able to make it hurt.

He nodded his heads. "Yeah, it gets a little too cold and old sounding if you have to go with formalities everywhere." People certainly loved shoving titles in his face at parties. "And just because you have it, it may not mean anything. Though, I suppose it's unlucky for anyone whose first name is Alexander." He chuckled a little. Some names just sounded more formal in the first place.

"Depends on how you like your tea, I suppose. The nights are still somewhat warm, so if you like your tea with ice then yeah. But if it's hot, I'd be hesitant to walk and sip." Michelle actually winced at the thought. "I wouldn't walk with coffee, I wouldn't walk with hot cocoa, I wouldn't walk with hot tea. But I'm also a bit of a danger magnet so that probably comes with the terrain."

She hummed to herself, stepping back up onto the sidewalk and opening the door to the small cafe she'd mentioned. Mezamiz. "People just like to be jerks, that's all that is, it has to do with the idea that people think they're the most important thing ever. They don't stop to think that others matter just as much."

"I've done it plenty of times myself. Especially with coffee. Though I don't consider myself to be a danger magnet." Though one could consider him the danger. And he wasn't surprised at the woman's luck. After all, she was hanging out with him now wasn't she? "Though you are right it's too difficult to try in the winter. You can never tell when there's black ice on the sidewalk. But it's been nice in early spring and late fall. I get to enjoy a hot beverage while looking at the scenery."

He nodded to her in thanks and stepped inside making sure not to block the doorway. "Yes, I've seen that often. There's a difference between doing something thoughtlessly and apologizing for it later, it's when one does it on purpose that annoys me." Though he didn't like people trying to continually pronounce his name if they still couldn't get it correct after the fifth time.

He wandered over to what looked like the place to order and looked at the menu. "You have any recommendations? If not then I'm sure they'll have something I like, but you know this place better than I do!" He said with a chuckle. It was nice to try a new place out though. Better to find somewhere his mom would probably never go in, making it one more place he could go to avoid her.

"Maybe you're a good luck magnet. You get good luck that happens to you!" Michelle grinned, stepping inside and letting out a happy sigh. The overall atmosphere of the cafe was relaxed with a light murmur of people talking filling the air. The server standing behind the counter looked relaxed and friendly, leaning against the counter as she waited for the two to place their orders.

"And well, I mean it depends entirely on what you like. If you want something sweet, I'd recommend the white teas, especially the candy apple white. If you want something stronger, less sweet then maybe the Earl Grey. There's also just standard black tea, iced where you can decide if you want to add sweetener or not to it. And their cocoa is amazing! I don't know the coffee side of things too well to suggest anything there, but I'm sure they're great! They certainly smell great, at least." She grinned before, "One hot cocoa for me, please, tall with whipped cream."

She then stepped back, gesturing for him to pick what he wanted. She could pick up the tab, easily, unless he refused.

"Perhaps." He replied chuckling. Or maybe I make my own luck. He thought to himself as he listened to what she suggested. He didn't want anything too sweet, like the "candy apple white" she had suggested. Unfortunately if something was too sweet as a liquid and it wasn't something like hot chocolate or carbonated, it felt like pure syrup going down his throat. Not a pleasant sensation.

She ordered and he followed her lead. "I'll take the same." Hot chocolate wouldn't keep him up for much longer and besides, it had been a while. He had last had it in... February? The year had gone by so fast! Still, it was the end of summer, turning into fall, he might as well drink a bit of it first before the Pumpkin Spice invasion began.

"I'll pay for mine." He said. meynara"I know you were the one to suggest this place, but I like paying for my own stuff, you know?" He only said that because she looked as though she were going to pay, but he insisted he pay for his own. Something about owing people always made him feeling like he was attached to the other, as if he owed them, even if they said they were happy to pay for it and didn't need him to pay it back.

He looked around, hoping that there was a booth that they could sit in. He didn't like being at a table unless it was surrounded by walls on three sides. But he wouldn't force it. He might be a little uncomfortable, but he could stand it. "You know this place better than I do, so you get to pick where we sit, if that's okay?" He wasn't sure if she would be the type that left it up to him. If she insisted however, they were getting a booth.

"Good choice," she said, noting that he planned to get his own, paying for her own drink and waiting for it to be made. "Even in the middle of summer, I can always go for a good hot cocoa. Sometimes, just because it's hot outside, it doesn't mean that the inside is warm, if that makes sense?"

She took her drink as it was passed to her, sipping carefully and getting a bit of whipped cream on her nose without realizing it. "Pumpkin Spice will be invading everywhere soon, and I don't know if I should be happy or irritated by it," she added, her mind seeming to be on the same wavelength, for all that this was a smaller cafe, not a chain like Starbucks, that didn't mean they couldn't have their own version of the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte.

"Seat, right, we should probably sit somewhere," she laughed softly. "There's a corner...sorta booth over that way," Michelle nodded her head towards the left, towards the quieter side of things. "But the booth itself is literally a corner with chairs on the third side, it's meant for bigger groups but I always love sitting there. Is that alright?"

Jacques couldn't help but chuckle. While he didn't have problems with the insides of buildings being too cold, he did realize that people who did not have as many layers would still be cold even if it was extremely hot outside. "Well if there's one thing I know, it's that even if it's the same temperature inside as it is outside, the outside has the sun and warm wind. Inside you may be sitting under or near a vent that is just blasting cold air on you continuously. I don't blame people for complaining." It was too bad that personal heaters took up so much electricity. Perhaps someone should invent one that didn't use up as much, like when they finally upgraded lightbulbs.

He waited for his drink and when he got it, decided to let it cool for a bit before trying to sip it. He did notice though that Michelle got some whip cream on your nose, and he whispered, "You got something on your nose" before subtly pointing to his own to show where the foam was so that she could wipe it off. If she couldn't feel it, perhaps the whip cream wasn't very cold. "I don't mind pumpkin pie and the occasional pumpkins spice something, but I swear that they're trying to put it in everything. I wouldn't be surprised if they started genetically engineering vegetables to taste like pumpkin spice or something." He could only shake his head at the thought.

"Yeah, that's fine. At least it doesn't seem crowded to the point where we would have strangers trying to sit with us." He said as he started to head over in the direction, sighing a bit when he was finally able to sit down. Perhaps he had been standing up for too long tonight already, but it felt really good to rest his legs for a bit.
