The wonderful thing about the Negaverse's Castle, by Chip's reckoning, was just how many different spots there were to slip into and look around. And all those offices. Locked, often, but that rarely made much of a difference to him. There was a certain satisfaction getting into rooms that people were trying to hide...and then looking at what all was there. Today, though, he had a mission! He needed a person. With fingers. And, for whatever reason, he decided to try offices. So, he chose one at random and went in. ...It was empty. He spent a bit snooping around, then picked another office. This one was brightly light, and colorful! And sparkly! What a novel idea...he filed the possibility of lots of colors away for future use, and just sort of oggled the space for a moment before really settling on an answer to the question of if he'd found his "volunteer." stari_maga I leave it up to you as to whether she's in her office, or walks in while he's staring at the sparkles. biggrin

This whole being an adult thing wasn't great, but it definitely wasn't all bad, either. Like, yeah, Sylvite might have spent way too much of her summer in a greasy fast-food kitchen, but it also meant that she had enough money now that she could buy stuff online now at two A.M. Sometimes, she'd get clothes and stuff, but she was also getting really, really into decking out her Negaverse office. The highlights of her newest batch of goodies was a thick stack of sticky notes that looked like mermaid cats. They were the cutest, but she also thought they'd be pretty practical. Like, she could use them as a quick way to mark off anyone in her stack of database papers who had water powers. She had some cute blue washi tape that would go with it, too. Any thoughts about stationery kinda flew out the window when she stepped into her office and almost tripped over something. Something round and soft looking. A cat! Sylvite's eyes went really wide. She knew about the Negaverse cats, obviously, but they didn't exactly show up in her office all that often. As far as she knew, they were more of a senshi thing, like the cool magic and the fun outfits and all of the other stuff that Sylvite didn't get and tried not to focus on too much. Still, there was a cat, in her own office, right now, and Sylvite just grinned. "Oh, hi!" she said, bouncing up and down on her toes. "Can I, like, help you?"

Chip had found a fish-patterned paper and was chewing on it slowly with a thoughtful expression as an officer walked in. He put it down with a very soft "blep" before looking up to regard her with wide, anticipating eyes. "Oh, you'll do great," he replied with an open-mouthed cat grin. "I was looking for a volunteer to help me with a project!" he declared, jumping up onto a chair, then the desk, where he struck a "heroically commanding" sort of pose. Never mind that he was a tiny kitten and possibly the least imposing thing in the entirety of this castle. His little hat tilted as he spoke. "And, I think I've found her!"

Sylvite's eyes went even bigger in surprise as she saw just up close and personal the kitty was getting with her fancy paper. She didn't say anything, though. She could forgive a little cat slobber if it meant that there was a cute, fluffy friend in her office. She walked over to her desk and leaned down just a little, squeezing her hands together in front of her to try to get out some of the extra energy. "You're working on a project? What is it?" She dug her new sticky notes out of her pocket and kinda tossed them on the desk. Somehow, they seemed way less impressive when there were real magic cats around. "I can totally help if you want! I'm not super busy right now." She pursed her lips for a second, then tilted her head and added, "Then, maybe you can help me, too."

“Perfect!” Chip responded. “I’ll need you to...” he trailed off then, made a face, and then picked a piece of fish-pattern paper out from between his teeth with his tongue. A soggy, happy fish face ended up on the desk in front of him, and he looked at it, briefly getting completely derailed from what he was thinking about. “Your fish flavored paper doesn’t taste much like fish,” he announced, instead of whatever he was about to get to. “I was disappointed.” He nodded. “It is supposed to taste like fish, right? I mean, it looks like fish...”

Sylvite blinked twice, and her eyebrows squished together just a little when she saw the sad, sad state of one of her little fishies. "What? No!" She reached over and tried to smooth it out as much as she could to show it off to her new little cat friend. "It's not flavored or anything. It's just supposed to be cute. See?" She pulled off a couple sheets to reveal a much happier looking fish underneath. "And so I can like, tell files apart at a glance. I got this one to represent cats, actually, and this one I got after the Forth for a guy with sparkly powers, it could work for fire magic, too, or the gross sparkly people, and this one could be for, like, anything nature-y." She poked at a pack of half-used firework stationary, then some mushroom sticky notes. "Do you wanna snack? I think I have some candy in here. No fish, though. I don't get cats too much." She leaned down to open a drawer and was careful to keep her voice nice and even as she said, "'Cause, y'know. Not a senshi." It only took her a second to find the bag, which she pulled out. "Yeah. I have some Skittles?"

As the little cat looked at the fish-patterned paper, instead of disappointment, he instead looked suddenly very excited. "I know my next project," he declared, tail swishing happily and ears twitching excitedly. Still, he did listen to what she had to say, and nodded a little. Organization was good, he supposed, but he preferred to let someone else do that. He had science to do. "I'll try those Skittles," he replied, padding around lightly. "For science. But then it's time to help me with my project!"

Sylvite rattled the bag a little bit, then pulled out a small handful for her new kitty friend, which she sat down next to him on the desk. She got a bigger handful for herself. Cats were cute and fluffy and everything, but one of the benefits to being human was that she could fit more sugar in her. Hers went on the desk, too, and she started sorting them by color. "Yeah, okay! I'm ready!" Sylvite always ate her candy from sour to sweet, so she sstarted by popping a lemon Skittle in her mouth. "What're you working on?"

A single skittle was selected, and his tiny cat face plopped down on it. He chewed thoughtfully, considering, then swallowed. "I'm working on a revolutionary new machine," he explained happily. "And I need you for a field test!" He nodded once, and looked up at her expectantly. "It's too big for me to carry around, so you should take me to my workshop...I can guide you." Evidently, the cat expected to be carried.

Once her candy was nice and sorted, Sylvite didn't waste any time finishing it off. The Skittles that Chip didn't want went ignored for now. "Okay!" she said. She then waited for just one kinda awkward second, seeing i he was gonna go or something, but when he didn't, her grin got even bigger as she reached down to scoop him up and put him on her shoulder. It maybe wasn't the most practical, but it was how people carried around their little animal companions in shows she watched, and it worked for them. Plus, she was getting the full effect of this fluffy, fluffy cat. "A machine, huh? That's cool. Y'know, even being Information, I don't get to see the science side of stuff too much," she said as she stepped out into the hallway.

Chip, being so very small, was easily picked up, and with only a bit of adjusting, actually seemed to be fairly stable on her shoulder, though he did let his fuzzy body press against her cheek for stability, tail flicking behind him. He gave directions that eventually brought them to a little room in the castle, perhaps a store room of some sort, strewn with metallic parts. Junk, possibly, but it all looked fairly technological. Gears, pipes, cranks, pistons, a few circuit boards here and there. A big bucket of nuts and bolts, and a second one that appeared to have fallen over at some point. Laid out in a circle of not-as-much-disorder was apparently his current project. It sort of resembled a steampunk flying saucer, roughly circular, with gears and sticks that looked like they would spin, although it was all stationary at the moment. It was about 3 feet wide, and had an array of wires sticking out from the top and bottom, snaking away into the pile of stuff. "Here we are!" Chip announced proudly. "I could have set up shop in the Mau HQ, but it's so much more convenient to have officers around to rope in all the time."

Once the candy and cute decorations were behind them, Sylvite was kinda able to focus on the directions and before she knew it, she was at what could only be the workroom. She peeked in. She stared for a whole five seconds. She blinked. Then, she grinned. "Woah." She took a few steps in, still drinking it all in with big, bright eyes. "This is really cool. It's really, like, industrial, which has been super popular lately." Without even looking at him, she let Chip down so he could get around if he wanted to. That was when she noticed the thing. She walked towards it, slow and almost reverent, her head curiously tilted. "You made this?" she asked. "That's awesome. What does it, like, do? I wanna know all about it!" She poked one of the gears.

The gear seemed pretty solid, and didn't spin immediately on being touched. "This," he replied, hopping onto it...causing the whole rig to tilt somewhat. "Is my Catted Battle Drone," he nodded once. "Still working on some parts of it, and that's why you're here!" Looking at the little thing, there did appear to be a spot where a cat--a very small cat--could sit in, and there were a few sticks and buttons that may have been controls, but they weren't exactly well labeled, nor was it especially clear what they did. "You're gonna pick the whole thing up, and then turn it on!"

" Ohhhh," said Sylvite as she nodded in approval. "So you can fight people! That's really smart." She took just a second to admire just how freaking adorable he looked in the little, uh, cockpit? Was it a cockpit? It was pretty simple, and she didn't know how many bells and whistles something had to have before it was official. Still, after getting her instructions, she didn't waste any time picking up the whole drone and fiddling with anything that looked like it could be a on switch, all while trying to get a closer look. She was far from a mechanic, but it was still interesting. "Does it have lasers?" she asked. "It should have lasers. Like, laser guns are probably a long shot, but you could get those cat toys hooked up to it and then blind people."

Chip actually hopped off the "drone" before she picked it up, and went over to where some of the wires were connected to. "There's a big red button, push that, and watch your face," he said cheerily. "I haven't put the lasers on yet, but it's definitely gonna have 'em!" Through esoteric, cat-like means, Chip slipped his goggles off his hat onto his face, and put his paws on the little box he went to. "Hit it! Let's see how it goes!" The look of anticipation on his face suggested he clearly expected something to happen when that button was pushed!
