The beat was electric and pulsing, the lights flashing in time to cast odd shadows over the moving bodies in the club. It was hard to pick out individuals in the crowd on the dance floor, but for some people that was the point. You could lose yourself in it for a while, stop being yourself and become a creature of motion and sensation instead.

Sid liked to be the one to make them move, to stand on her platform and work the controls that brought this other world to life. The butterfly, the fairy, the rainbow beat.

There was something missing, though. Or rather, it was the opposite. Too much of everything, too many hard edges and irritations. What she needed came in a little pill and there was one person in this whole place who had it, standing over by the bar with the stage lights highlighting the lines of his face. Sid nodded at one of the guys off stage and he bounced up beside her, the lipstick he wore smudge at the corner from the hotty he'd been making out with a moment ago. She gave him a curled-lip smile and he grinned back, practically sparkling.

Joey had already gotten into something tonight, it seemed, but that wouldn't get in the way of keeping the music going. At least long enough for her to take a break and get a little something for herself. His boyfriend grinned and blew kisses at her as she passed, turning Sid's grin impish in return. Boys... It was a shame neither was real interested in girls.

She wove her way around the edges of the joyful crowd, ducking reaching hands and fending off offers with a laugh that earned her one in return. Her shortness made it hard to see where she was going, but she'd made the trek often enough it didn't really matter. The people parted suddenly and there was the bar, lit from below and along the shelves lined with LEDs.

Gryphon could pretty consistently guess what he might be in for when he went out to tend to his job. The weekdays were typically quiet. He'd hang out behind one of the seedy apartment complexes in his own neighborhood and meet up with particularly downtrodden addicts who really ought to be spending their time and money elsewhere. There wasn't room for him to say as much, considering his position in it all, but God, sometimes he wanted to. Instead, he just grinned. Hey, no one had ever said he was proud of it. Like most working adults, weekdays were no fun for him.

Weekends were different.

Though the club he visited was not closed Monday through Thursday, his clientele really skyrocketed Saturday nights, giving him good excuse to spend a handful of hours in the thrall of flashing neon lights and heavy bass loud and distracting enough to keep too much rational thought from his mind. He didn't need to keep justifying to himself why he was here.

Even if these people also likely ought to be spending their time and money somewhere else. Still, at least they seemed peppier, happier, bouncier, louder. That was something Gryphon could get behind, even if he wasn't a user, himself. He leaned sidelong against the bar, chatting aimlessly at the bartender who was quite a bit busier than Gryph was, himself, and only had a scattering of seconds while pouring concoctions into glasses to humor him with conversation.

Not that Gryphon minded. It was all in the spirit of the night, after all: the bustle and the distractions. Still, when a rainbow-haired girl managed to slip through the crowd and make her way toward him, Gryphon was pleased. It always pleased him to again see the familiar faces of people who partook in the sort of activities she did. You never knew when the next time would be the last.

He grinned as she neared. "Ey, Sid," he greeted, practically shouting over the music.

Her grin widened, almost too big for her thin face. She flashed and sparkled in her sequins and studs, bouncing like a little butterfly as Sidney slipped between people and pressed herself up against Gryph's side. One arm snaked around the taller man's waist and that smile was all for him.

He felt pleasantly cushioned against the hard points of her shoulder and hip, the back her arm stretched across worth two of her, at least. The make up hid the haggard she felt, but he had the cure for her ills and that earned him more of her affection than usual, despite herself.

"Gryph, baby! Its good to see you. Are you enjoying the show?" Long acquaintance, and a certain level of intimacy, meant she probably didn't need to butter him up with niceties, but the topic was of interest to her. Acclaim was life's blood, dancing and applause the bread and butter. She waved two fingers at the bartender around his bulk and got a grin and a nod in return, her usual already on the way.

Her hand slid down to idly play with Gryphs waistband and she leaned into him, fingers running through hair damp with sweat at the temples.

"Whatcha drinkin?"

There was no denying that even if he wasn't exactly a proponent of the hazardous and hazy lifestyle that someone like Sidney might lead (in the sense that it seemed like a bad idea, and if he wasn't an adult who needed money, he'd be more actively against it), her bouncy, glittering presence did come with a certain thrill, a certain excitement that really was, quite unfortunately, addictive in its own way. He enjoyed seeing her and her pearly smile and lack of inhibitions. Life could get dull, and Sidney was anything but.

"You're pretty easy on the eyes, yourself, mate," he retorted, flashing her a grin of his own as he settled his elbows back against the bar counter and peered down at her. "Really know how to make an old man liven up." Maybe it was a bit crazy to let Sidney make him feel any variety of special, but ******** it, because she did.

And things like that were rare among this crowd, weren't they? Might as well bask in it.

Gryphon swirled the dark liquid in his cup lazily with a roll of his shoulders. "Just a coke," he replied with a short laugh and amused display of teeth. "You know I'm workin,' Sid, can't get smashed in a place like this where any one'a these hands could be tryin' to lift somethin' off me. Including..." He snatched up her hand and tugged it to his lips to kiss her knuckles. "Yours. But I could be convinced, y'know, to go for something a little stronger than a coke, if you wanted to try."

Sidney laughed brightly as he kissed her hand, wiggling her fingers playfully in his grip. Her eyes had a gleam to them, her purple lip caught between her teeth.

"Old man..." She scoffed. "You're hardly old... and even if you were, I like older men."

He got a wink at that and the DJ wiggled like a puppy, eager for a treat.

"I ran out and I've been aching for a hit.... like real bad." Magenta eyes angled up through her lashes, making good use of her shorter height. "You wouldn't mind fronting me a little, yeah? Just enough to get by till my cut from tonight comes through. I promise I'm good for it."

Sid leaned on him as he leaned back, letting his larger frame support her... and feel her too. The hand he didn't hold fluttered thin fingers down his arm and then across his chest, never quite still. Sid was never quite still either, shifting and wiggling, sometimes to the music, sometimes not.

"I can make the wait worth while too. Don't gotta be free." Shameless. Sid had no shame, and especially not here.

It was loud in here, with bass from the music vibrating through Gryphon's chest and making the bar counter he leaned against feel as though it too, was moving. Loud and warm even without the added influence of alcohol. Sidney had such a slender figure, particularly noticeable as she pressed to him, and Gryphon had to wonder why he always expected someone so skinny to feel cooler to the touch. She certainly didn't, and her proximity and the skittering of her fingers caused a new blossoming of heat to make itself known.

He took a sip of Coke, sunny irises flicking briefly to the girl's DJ friend, and he had to wonder what the guy was so excited about.

The drink was set on the counter, and with his hand free, Gryphon's palm started to wander. First to the bedazzling colored ends of her hair, damp and tangled from rigorous, excited activity. He twisted a finger through a neon lock and hummed out a low, rolling note as his face heated. "Ey, Sid..." Sidney was pretty and sweet and unfairly deceptive with her playfully coy mannerisms.

His hand slipped to her shoulder, down her arm and settled at her waist. It felt like she weighed almost nothing as he notched her back just an inch. "Bad new, baby," Gryphon replied with a smile that was nearly apologetic, but it was hard to feel too sorry for not letting her play him. "Happens I'm not crazy into get shot," he admitted. "And lettin' people run off with the wares tends to have a, uh- bad impact on my ability to, y'know, not be." And as much as Sid's pretty face and bright eyes could certainly make the trade worth it to some people, Gryphon didn't really have the same ability to pull that off on his boss.

The small DJ pouted as he eased her back, pink eyes large. People rarely said No to her, and she knew Gryph wanted to not say No, but he had a valid point even if she would never admit to it.

"You hang out with the wrong crowd, Teddy-Bear. Those kids are into the rough stuff and I don't play that way. I don't think you should play that way either, you know." She reached up to tug at one of his locks, giving him a frown with her pout. "We're all just here to have fun, and that's not fun. You should hang out with my guys, they're way nicer. Or me. You know I'd hang out with you even with out the treats."

Her pout evaporated instantly and now it was a smile and a tongue stuck between her teeth as she tugged at his hair again.

"Look, I got thirty bucks, and that was supposed to cover my drinks tonight. I'll take a hit for that much, if you got it. Aaaaaaaand this...?" She chirped as she grabbed the band of his pants and gave it a playful tug. "No charge, just between friends. I wanna have a little fun between my sets..."

She drew a cross over her chest as her drink arrived from the bartender. It was chilled as it slid down her throat, water beading on the bar when she set it back down.

"C'mon. I know a private room they'll let us have. I talked the bouncer into it earlier, just in case, you know?"
