If the Elder ever needed to actually fight, then she failed at her job as Leader. All of her Warriors failed as well, to keep the threat at bay. Otherwise, the elder should be able to enjoy the rest of his life in then elder den shaking his paw at kits being too loud or telling stories from before any of them were born.

That said, she wouldn't deny the chance to learn from a veteran Warrior. Giving a nod of respect to the older tom, she proceeded to get into battle stance and dart at the Elder.

Shadowstar tried to remind herself to go easier on him. He was an elder after all.

He wasn't a battler, he knew it. And he knew he had no chance against the young clan leader.

Nevertheless, the stubborn old cat had no intention of sitting out the rest of his days on his haunches being useless, thanks. Maybe there wasn't much hope of being of any real use compared to the young warriors, but if worst ever did come to worst, who knew if an Elder with capable paws might not be the one surprise advantage they needed in keeping kits safe?

Although...this hurt a lot more than he thought he remembered. Even if Shadowstar were holding back, that hit still sent Copperspark reeling. Shaking his head, he regained his footing and attempted to counter the strike.

She would never admit it, but that hit took her by surprise. Just like the young shadowkit sitting at the paws of an older Warrior learning about battling, Shadowstar just got reminded of a very important lesson.

Elder didn't mean weak.

Getting her bearings back, and shaking off that attack, she went back after the elder eager to learn.

Copperspark knew he didn't have the stamina to keep up with a young she-cat like the new Riverclan leader, but he was darned if he was gonna go down without some sort of fight. At least, if she didn't do him some sort of permanent damage here first, he could still try again later. Maybe.

Bracing himself against a lesser blow, he weathered that one in return for getting close enough to strike again at the young Warrior.

Shaking his blow off, Shadowstar focused more on the technique then the power behind it. Knock off a few of the cobwebs and this Elder would teach more than just history. "I look forward to learn from you still. The whole clan will learn more than just life lessons from you." Another day, this lesson was about to be over.

Another blow and Copperspark shook his head, holding up a paw. He was done for today. "Perhaps. Though the lesson today is knowing when to quit," he chuckled, settling on his haunches. Oof, proabably going to be feeling that tomorrow.

"I've had enough for today. How about we find a nice sunny spot to rest and discuss this whole 'Battle Tactics with ol' Copper' idea?"
