Quote:
There are many parties and celebrations going across town; for whatever reason, you are in a part of town where live music is playing and everyone is dancing all around. You lock eyes with someone in the crowd and, in all the movement, the crowd winds up pushing you together. Whether intentional or accidental, you get one dance together before you are separated. Was this person someone you know or a complete stranger and, did you want the dance or did you try to escape it? --Will you ever find each other again afterwards?

Fionan had only gone out to pick up something for his mother, a surprise for her, when he’d run right into the middle of what seemed to be a block party. The flower shop was right there - on the corner. But how to get through all the people? That was the problem and he did want to make it on time, before the shop closed, but it seemed with all the dancing people he might not make it.

Pushing and moving his way around dancing bodies the blond haired male nearly hit into someone, nearly landed on his face, and had someone give him a dirty look and he assumed some sort of dirty words as well. Overall it was not easy to get through a crowd of dancing bodies, and he couldn’t get anyone to hear him over all the music, this was not what he was expecting when he’d set out to get his mother some flowers.

It wasn’t that there was some special occasion, like a birthday or anything, but he knew his mother liked flowers and tried to keep some in the kitchen and dining room all the time. But she’d been busy lately and one of the vases of flowers was withering. He’d decided to surprise her and get her flowers to fill in the vase and replace the dead flowers, something nice with lots of purple involved. If only these people would move though…

The plan had been to meet her sister here at the festival, especially since music was definitely more her thing. But unfortunately work had got in the way and the person scheduled to relieve Breanna from her shift had slept through their alarm and was running late. The last update was forty-five minutes ago letting her know that the co-worker hit some ugly traffic and to just go enjoy the fair until she arrived.

Easier said than done but Fiona definitely did her best to enjoy herself in the meantime. Since powering up for the first time, crowds, unfortunately, made her uneasy but not without good reason. It was at the masquerade with Fionan, her boyfriend at the time, that things started to go awry and senshi were kidnapped. It was a harrowing experience and one she had difficulty getting over even until this day.

Time has passed since that day and she had, with help, learned to relax a bit and not be so paranoid.

Today, however, was a day to have a good time. And so, she wandered around the different booths, intent on finding something to eat, when a crowd of people dancing to some rather energetic music caught her eye. It was almost hypnotic to watch from afar and without realizing it she had wondered closer simply to observe.

Before she realized it, she too began to move and sway with the beat, and allowed herself for once to lose herself to the rhythm as she often did while on the ice.

While Fionan was moving through the group of people he caught sight of a familiar head of blue hair - Fiona? This hadn’t been the sort of place he’d expect to see her. Though they were no longer dating, and they weren’t nearly so close, he hadn’t thought she’d changed so much that a street event like this would be her sort of place to be. But it wasn’t his sort of place either, he hadn’t known even known about this event.

While he stood staring ,watching his former girlfriend, he was walked right into from behind. A drink, something ice cold, covered his back and soaked right through his shirt. The hit also sent him forward,. Past two people, and nearly had him running right into Fiona.

Apology already forming on his lips, as he was sure he’d slam right into her, he just came up short of hitting into her.

The beat of the music was loud enough that it felt as if her heartbeat in tandem with the melody playing. Others attending the festival bumped into her carelessly, and yet for some reason, she couldn’t find it in herself to care. Instead, Fiona simply went with the flow, ebbing and weaving through the masses. That was until she finally looked up and noticed the familiar face of one she used to date.

For the briefest of moments their gazes met, both equally surprised by this random happenstance moment that brought them together in one of the most unlikely of places. Her mouth opened as if she was going to speak but with how loud the music and crowd, she was sure whatever she said would not be heard.

When the music began to slow as it reached the end of the current song, the look of shock faded into one of both sadness and guilt. It was stupid of her to not have trusted him, something Briana had scolded her on several occasions. But there really was no turning back time to fix that mistake. Instead, the only option she had left was to move forward and perhaps this might be her one chance to make amends.

Surprised when her attention was focused on him he stood there, unsure what to say, he’d been so ready to apologize for hitting into her but he hadn’t. Now what? For a moment, or more, he stumbled into greeting her. “Fiona….I didn’t - I didn’t think I’d run into you.” Not here, no, but into her at all. He couldn’t say here because people changed and maybe this sort of big event was something she would go to now?

“I..umm….I was just heading for the flower shop. If you want...we can talk after this? I mean if you want to? We’re still friends…” At least he thought they were. Though they didn’t act like it really now did they? “I just have to get there before it closes.” And he hoped she’d understand.

The sound of his voice was as she remembered; calm, gentle and with kind intent. He had always been thoughtful and considerate which is why it hurt so much to lie to him; to keep from him the secret of what she was.

Yet for some reason, perhaps it was the earnest look in his eyes or the way he reached a hand out to her, it seemed he wasn’t quite willing or ready to let go yet. It was both a terrifying yet hopeful notion to consider. They had been high school sweethearts and she had, in turn, hurt him in ways she couldn’t really understand. Fionan had every right to turn his back and walk away, but that just wasn’t in his nature; he was far too kind to do such a thing.

However, before she could reply, a larger man nearly a whole head taller than she, stumbled into the crowd as the next piece of music start playing. Perhaps he was drunk or someone had caught him mid-step and accidentally tripped him. Either way, the jarring sensation of nearly being knocked over by him was enough to cause her to retreat back several steps.

When she finally got her bearings together and looked up again, Fionan was gone. Lost amongst the bobbing and waving of men, women, and children simply having a good time.

There was a deeply saddened look on her face. Her eyes cast downward she placed a hand above her heavy heart. “I’m sorry… I can’t… not yet...” she spoke softly, knowing he was nowhere near to hear her apology.

As he escaped the crowd, not an easy feat, Fionan turned around in time to see Fiona. Hand to her chest and looking around...almost sad? If he didn’t need to do something, if he knew it would be ok, so many if’s but if he knew things...he’d have gone back to comfort her. He had never liked to see her sad, that was one thing he’d tried to make sure she didn’t feel when they had been dating. It wasn’t a look which suited her.

Shaking his head he turned back and continued towards the flower shop. Maybe she’d call him...just maybe. He could hope - he had to. He knew he should have moved on...but he hadn’t - he couldn’t. So he’d hold onto some bits and pieces of hope. Smiling as he left the shop sometime later, arms cradling the flowers he’d purchased, he took another way home. He didn’t want to see those sad eyes again.
