Firework displays are common this time of year, especially for the duration of the festival. By all accounts, the fireworks lighting up the sky seemed perfectly ordinary--until, suddenly, a light flashes so brightly that it immediately blinds everyone who was watching. For those staring directly at the explosion, they may find that their vision takes 2-3 days to return; for those who caught only a glimpse of it or were further away, they may still be affected with less severe vision loss. (Please see tomorrow's prompt for more information on vision recovery! You may respond to this prompt at any point in time or backdate, but this event will always have ICly occurred on the night of June 20th) To anyone who viewed the firework, it was unlike any other firework before; it was a beautiful array of colors and was accompanied with a loud boom and a strange gust of wind. Destiny City has reported that it was not an approved display but do not have further information on the firework’s origin.

With the star festival and the approaching Fourth of July it wasn’t strange to hear fireworks going off in the distance. It wasn’t even uncommon to be close enough to see the fireworks people were setting off. The city was filled with celebration this summer. Liam wasn’t normally one for social settings but he’d decided to sit through a fireworks display - a big one. Lots of people were around and the noise was loud, from both the fireworks and the people, what he wasn’t expecting was the sudden flash just after a really lovely set of explosions.

It had his vision going white, from the brightness of the explosion, and he was sure it wasn’t a normal firework. No one would use something that dangerous and that bright, there was no point and it was harmful, so while he rubbed at his tearing, burning, eyes that hurt from just how bright that all hard been. He didn’t even really notice the gust of wind, aside from noting the cooling effect it had against his skin. Busy rubbing at his eyes he could hear other people complaining about it as well, with some saying they couldn’t see.

As people talked, whispered, and it sounded like phone calls were being made he managed to ask someone to call for him as well - his vision had gone as well. He could see but very little and his eyes hurt - a lot. He just hoped when he got somewhere, likely a hospital, they could give Rhona a call to let her know. She wasn’t going to be pleased, he knew that about her character already ,but there was nothing she could do. It had been a fireworks display, and something had been off, there was nothing for her to fight or anyone to yell at...well maybe. She might find someone to yell at, after mother henning him.

With his vision as bad as it was, seeing shadows in various shades of black, it wasn’t a wonder that he did panic when medical did arrive but he allowed them to help him. He did, as any who knew him, would expect of him - argued that he could walk...with help. He was not being carried off on a stretcher. He lost the fight, no surprise, but the trip to the hospital was rather bland aside from taking vitals and making sure he was mentally all here.

The hospital arrival was harder for him to handle, too much shifting of blacks and he couldn’t make out what was what. All he could go by was what he heard, though he wasn’t all that familiar with hospital sounds, he knew he wasn’t the only person from the fireworks in the area - he could hear others. When a nurse arrived to ask who they should call he gave them Rhona’s number, telling them she was a roommate. Asked about his age and if he had a parent or someone he shook his head. “N-no. Just call her. She’ll come down.” He knew she would, she might find a way to grow wings in order to fly here. She already had wings, sort of, she might just improve upon those.

Now all he had to do was wait, and maybe answer some questions. They were busy here tonight - very busy.
