Well, we seem to be in a bit of a pickle. You've woken up in the middle of a place so green, you're not really sure which way is up and which way is down. It doesn't help that you have apparently woken up in a tree. It smells damp here - a clean, alive sort of damp, but definitely the sort of damp that means you'll start to encounter strange diseases if you tarry too long.
Let's do our best to enjoy the journey out of here, shall we?

Rules Be polite and respectful. Show good sportsmanship. Let's spread some good vibes! Questions should be directed towards the host of the contest or sale you're participating in (Mahogany Sunset). Please be aware that those running the game might have to make a call on something they didn't go over in the rules. Please respect the host's ruling. Please do not use post styles when submitting contest entries. Please be mindful that mistakes do happen when lists are being compiled. If you see your name missed, please notify the host prior to prize rolling in order to be included in the list. If a mistake is made during rolling or during announcements of winners, please do not expect compensation to be given for the error, outside of remedying it for future rolls. It is entirely up to the colorist/staff if they choose to compensate for a goof, and compensation is an exception, not the rule. Mules may not be used to increase a user's chances of winning. A user may pass on any wins not listed on the front page, such as surprise prizes (including premade prizes that are listed but not shown). They must accept any non-announced prizes within 48 hours, or it will be assumed they have passed on the win. A user may not back out of a contest, prize, or sale once they've entered or added the pet to their preference list. However, we would appreciate it if you let hosts know when you are no longer eligible for a prize (e.g. when you've hit your cap from a separate contest). By participating, you acknowledge that you are entering for the painted bunting! (If you would like to only play for fun, there is a form for that.) A user should not be proxied for unless they ask to be proxied. Proxies are allowed. However, if you are playing for yourself and proxying, you must make a separate post for each of you for each prompt and indicate who it counts for. As a general rule, do not delete posts in contests, especially if they involve dice. If you must delete it, please confirm it is allowed in the contest rules or ask the contest host for permission. Please refrain from prematurely congratulating users on wins; staff should verify winners after rolling is complete before pets may be taken for certing and users are congratulated.

How to Play
This is a somewhat typical Choose Your Own Adventure game! If you have not participated in one before, here's how this one works:
The day before the game is held, signups will be open for a 24-hour period. During this time, users should post the signup form below if they wish to play the game, which will be held the next day. If you need someone to proxy for you, that's fine - have your proxy post the signup form with a note that they are proxying for you.
After the signup window closes, there will be a nine-hour window for me to sleep and then compile the participation list. Only users who are on this list will be permitted to participate in the game itself.
The game will be preceded by a post with the initial prompt and choices. A GO! post will then be made around (but not before) the official start time, at which point we will be off on our journey! You will have five minutes to make your choice. When those five minutes have passed, a STOP! post will be made. Anyone who posts their answer after the STOP post will be eliminated. After the STOP post has been made, I will check answers. In the next post, I will post the results of the possible answers to the scenario, as well as the list of who is moving on and who has been eliminated. This post will also contain the next question and choices. Five minutes after that post is up (to allow time to read), another GO! post will be made. The game will continue in this fashion until we either reach the end of the journey or everyone is eliminated.
There are possible side quests in this game. If you pick an answer that leads to one, your journey in the main storyline has ended - but you may have a chance encounter with a mystery soquili before your journey truly ends! As an FYI, these side quests do include a dice roll challenge. In the event of a tie for a side quest soquili, I will RNG which eligible person will win the soquili. As the side quest soquili are mystery prizes, you may pass on them.
In the event that everyone is eliminated prior to the end of the game, the person who lasts the longest will win the painted bunting. In the event that everyone is eliminated at once, everyone will automatically move on to the next round. If multiple people are left standing at the end of the game, I will RNG between them to determine who wins the painted bunting!

The Whole Adventure
If you're curious to see how the whole thing would have played out, just click the spoiler!

I suppose step one is getting down from this tree. Or actually, is it climbing up it...? Or... something else?
Choices! a. Climb up it. b. Climb down it.
Quote:
Results!
a. Climb up it.Correct answer!
b. Climb down it.Incorrect answer. Upon shimmying down the tree, you remember why you were in it in the first place - the area below the tree is quite soggy, and seems to be home to a nest of black caiman. One of them treed you - and he still lies in wait. You lack the upper body strength to climb back up the tree without footholds, and you can’t seem to find the ones you just had. You don’t quite escape his ravenous maw.
If you chose answer A, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer B, well... You're not so lucky.
Onward to the next choice... You climb up the tree and come face-to-face with a giant toucan. Its large, mango-orange beak looks dangerously sharp. It stares directly at you, and you realize that behind it is a nest of three chicks. Unnerved, you:
Choices! a. Reach out to offer it a piece of fruit from your bag. b. Back slowly toward the trunk and shimmy around it, making for the next tree.
Quote:
Results!
a. Reach out to offer it a piece of fruit from your bag.Incorrect answer. The toucan lunges at you - it grabs the guava, piercing it with the edges of its beak, and startles you so thoroughly that you fall back... And keep falling. Some foliage breaks your fall, but it's definitely not a gentle landing. You lay there for a long time, trying to get your breath to return to your lungs. When you finally turn over, you notice that the sun has set - you're stuck here for another night, and you're not sure you'll ever escape.
b. Back slowly toward the trunk and shimmy around it, making for the next tree.Correct answer.
If you chose answer B, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer A, well... You're not so lucky.
Onward to the next choice... In the next tree, you encounter something you’ve never seen before - a bright blue butterfly, its wings spread wide to absorb the sun. Startled by your presence, it flits down to the lower parts of the canopy, dappled sunlight gliding across the shimmering, microscopic scales on its wings. You:
Choices! a. Let it go and continue to the next tree. b. Follow it.
Quote:
Results!
a. Let it go and continue to the next tree.Incorrect answer. As you step out toward the next tree, you feel a great shuddering. Uncertain of what's happening, you turn your gaze back toward the trunk - and see, for the first time, the breach in its bark. You bolt back toward the trunk, but too late; the branch snaps with a loud crack, and you fall with it.
b. Follow it.Correct answer.
If you chose answer B, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer A, well... You're not so lucky.
Onward to the next choice... Upon following the butterfly, you reach the forest floor safely having shimmied down the trunk and avoided putting your weight too far out on a compromised limb. You find the butterfly among many of its brethren, sipping juices from smashed papaya on the forest floor. The distribution of the papaya seems purposeful, but you’re wary about investigating. You:
Choices! a. Keep walking. They’re beautiful, but you’ve heard some butterflies can be poisonous. b. Watch them for awhile. They seem so peaceful. c. Investigate! Look around for the source of the papaya.
Quote:
Results!
a. Keep walking. They’re beautiful, but you’ve heard some butterflies can be poisonous.Correct answer.
b. Watch them for awhile. They seem so peaceful.SIDE QUEST.
c. Investigate! Look around for the source of the papaya.Incorrect answer. Following a trail of orange juices, you eventually find your way to a papaya tree. Its trunk leans to the left, heavy with ripe fruit. From the fronds at the top of the tree, you hear a cackle... and look up just in time to take a papaya to the face! The dense fruit bursts, apparently overripe, and sticky juices coat your hair, your skin, your clothes... As you wipe the stinging juice from your eyes, you spot a mischievous capuchin monkey - and he's got another papaya in his hands! Turning tail, you run for the nearest stream, intent to wash this gunk off you. It will be at least another day before you leave the rainforest.
If you chose answer A, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer C, well... You're not so lucky. However, if you chose answer B... Check out what's in store for you!

A WILD FLUTTER APPEARS!
Markings Peleides Blue Morpho Cerynei-Flutter by elfstar89
Carrying a mango in his mouth, a Cerynei-Flutter stallion who, strangely, matches the butterflies, appears while you’re pensively watching the butterflies. Alarmed that you’re staring at his friends, he spits out the papaya and stomps his foot. All the butterflies take off, scattering. You:
a. Explain yourself - you were just fascinated by them! b. Scramble backwards, frightened of being trampled.
Onward to the next choice... Having chosen to continue your journey, you leave the beautiful butterflies behind. Hoping to avoid the wildlife for a while, you duck under some low-hanging flora. Upon looking up again, you realize you’ve entered an environment the likes of which you’ve never seen: orchids cling to many branches around you, blooming in all directions. They sway in the breeze, all dewy with rising mist. A loud noise breaks you from your reverie, though - and you see a beast ahead! A WILD TOBI-KADACHI APPEARS! The creature appears to be guarding its well-cultivated home, and you’ve intruded right into the middle of its garden. You, who were trying to avoid the wildlife (good job...?). Unable to believe your misfortune, you’re standing there, mouth agape, when it charges! You:
Choices! a. Stand your ground. b. Let out a yell and try to defend yourself.
Quote:
Results!
a. Stand your ground.Incorrect answer. The creature bowls you over, and before you know what's happening, the world is black - and you lose consciousness. You wake up the next day to find that it, thankfully, hasn't deigned to eat you. Regardless, you haven't been able to keep your goal to exit the rainforest in a timely manner, so... Your journey is over.
b. Let out a yell and try to defend yourself.Correct answer.
If you chose answer B, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer A, well... You're not so lucky. However, if you are still working on the side quest... Check out what's in store for you!

A WILD FLUTTER APPEARS!

Results!
a. Explain yourself - you were just fascinated by them! Incorrect answer. The Morpho stallion understands but berates you for disturbing the butterflies. He's been caring for them his whole life - he's not a stranger to them anymore, unlike you. Well-scolded, you wander away... And realize that you have no idea from which direction you came. You wander the rainforest in circles for a few days before finding your path again. Unfortunately, it'll be quite some time before you escape. [Your journey is over.]
b. Scramble backwards, frightened of being trampled. Correct answer.
The Morpho stallion comes after you, but only to reassure you that he means no harm. Worried but understanding, you make a friend of him. [Roll three four-sided dice. If you roll a 2, you have a shot at taking him home!]
Rolled a 2: You stay with him in the rainforest; he shows you his way of raising butterflies. You didn’t roll a 2: You part ways as friends, but rather than escaping the rainforest as you originally intended, you decide to make it your home. However, you and the Morpho stallion lose touch over time. Your journey has ended!
[If multiple people complete this side quest by rolling a 2, I will RNG between them to determine who takes him home. If you would like to pass on him, simply don't roll!]
Onward to the next choice... When you yell in his face, the creature stops abruptly, tilting his head at you. Confused (who isn’t, at this point?), he asks you what you’re doing. “Trying not to get eaten!” you reply. He laughs at that. He wouldn’t - and probably couldn’t - eat you! You smell too weird to be edible. Shaking your head, you sigh and ask if you can carry on. He says you can, but then you’ll never know his secret. You:
Choices! a. Shake your head and say you’re done with the secrets of the rainforest, then walk off. b. Ask him what kind of secrets he could really have. c. Ask him if his secrets have to do with all these orchids.
Quote:
Results!
a. Shake your head and say you’re done with the secrets of the rainforest, then walk off.Incorrect answer. The creature shakes his head, huffing. He says nothing, but pointedly watches you when you leave, dark humor in his eyes. You realize why when you fall into a pit - he was secretly celebrating the way your rudeness was about to earn its just desserts. It takes a couple days, but he eventually feels merciful and fishes you out of the pit. [Your journey is over.]
b. Ask him what kind of secrets he could really have.Correct answer!
c. Ask him if his secrets have to do with all these orchids.SIDE QUEST.
If you chose answer B, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer A, well... You're not so lucky. However, if you chose answer C... Check out what's in store for you!

A WILD TOBI-KADACHI APPEARS!

Upon asking him if his secrets have to do with the orchids, he lights up. Of course they do! You’re so perceptive. Do you want to take an orchid home? [Roll 5 10-sided dice. If you roll a 1, you have a chance to take him home!]
Roll a 1: You tell him you can’t decide, but you’re happy to stay here with him and learn about all these beautiful plants! 1 not rolled: You tell him no thank you, and ask for directions out of the rainforest. Upset that you’ve brushed him off, he gives you directions which lead you in circles. [Your journey is over.]
[If multiple people complete this side quest by rolling a 1, I will RNG between them to determine who takes him home. If you would like to pass on him, simply don't roll!]
Onward to the next choice... Tilting his head again, the usdia thinks on it. You’re right, he decides - his secrets really aren’t all that secret. You ask him if he has directions that could take you out of the rainforest, as you're worried about what the moisture might do to your skin. He understands, and points you toward the north, where he says you should follow a river. Eventually, you find it. You:
Choices! a. Follow the river until you decide to rest for the night. b. Cross the river - you’re hungry, and you spotted a banana tree on the other side.
Quote:

a. Follow the river until you decide to rest for the night.Correct answer.
b. Cross the river - you’re hungry, and you spotted a banana tree on the other side.Incorrect answer. As you splash through the river, you realize there are slithery things in the water... Fearing snakes, you move more quickly. Little do you know, but right in your path is a nest of electric eels - and they are far from happy when you step on several tails. You spend the next several days under that banana tree, nursing your hurts.
If you chose answer A, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer B, well... You're not so lucky.
Onward to the next choice... Upon waking up in the morning, you realized you’ve stumbled upon a nest of playful river otters. They’re mischievous but ultimately friendly. You play with them for a while but realize you’re not exactly doing what you set out to by hanging out with them. You:
Choices! a. Decide to stay. You’ve made friends here and you’d like to make a home here. b. Sadly say goodbye. You will miss them, but they’ll understand.

a. Decide to stay. You’ve made friends here and you’d like to make a home here.Incorrect answer. What else can we say? Your journey is over!
b. Sadly say goodbye. You will miss them, but they’ll understand.Correct answer.
If you chose answer B, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer A, well... You're not so lucky.
Onward to the next choice... After saying goodbye to your otter friends, you continue your journey along the river. It feels as if you walk for days innumerable, but you know you must be getting close to the edge of the rainforest. The air is starting to cool; the moisture in it clings clammily to your skin. Eventually, you come upon a small boat, oars intact. You:
Choices! a. Leave it and keep walking. Who knows how many holes that thing has? b. Get in and hold on for dear life - you’re too weak to row. c. Get in and row - you have a feeling this might be your last chance to get out of here.

a. Leave it and keep walking. Who knows how many holes that thing has?Incorrect answer. Little do you know, you need that boat to get out of here! Apparently, it's way too far to walk - as you find out when you finally escape, two months later. [Your journey is over.]
b. Get in and hold on for dear life - you’re too weak to row.SIDE QUEST.
c. Get in and row - you have a feeling this might be your last chance to get out of here.Correct answer.

A WILD ...something?... APPEARS!
You let the river carry you, and carry you it does - before you know it, you’re in the ocean. You drift for what feels like an age, sunburned, dehydrated... But finally, you see land. There's something out there - a figure with flowing hair. You:
a. Pick up the oars and row toward the figure. b. Stay still. It's a mirage. You can’t expend the energy.
Onward to the next choice... You row furiously, letting the force of the oars drive you with the current. Eventually, you come to a fork in the river. The one you choose is a leap of faith at this point - none of this feels familiar, and it’s all you can do to just get home. You:
Choices! a. Choose the left fork. b. Choose the right fork.
Quote:
Results!
a. Choose the left fork.Correct answer.
b. Choose the right fork.Incorrect answer. Long hours go by, and you realize that the air is beginning to warm again... The sounds are becoming familiar. You spot a poison dart frog - and realize that you've been journeying south since you took that fork, farther into the embrace of the lush greenery you've been trying to escape. You break down, and the river carries you on. [Your journey is over.]
If you chose answer A, congratulations! You move on to the next round. If you chose answer B, well... You're not so lucky. However, if you are still working on the side quest... Check out what's in store for you!
a. Pick up the oars and row toward the figure. Correct answer.
b. Stay still. It's a mirage. You can’t expend the energy. Incorrect answer. I hate to say this, but... You never see land again. Days at sea are not kind to the body, and you learn that the hard way. [Your journey is over.]
You arrive on an island in the middle of the ocean, and waiting there for you is a lovely maiden... A WILD GODDESS APPEARS. As you pull your boat ashore, weak and starving and dying of thirst, you fall to your knees at her feet. [You have a chance to take her home! Roll six 12-sided dice. If you roll an 11, she could be yours!]
Roll an 11: You faint at her feet, and she takes you home to nurse you back to health. You escaped the rainforest and you made a lifelong friend! Do not roll an 11: You faint at her feet. She is in a bad mood today, and she simply leaves you there. While you survive your little nap on the beach, you’re stuck here - you’ll have to find freshwater and food on your own. [Your journey is over.]
[If multiple people complete this side quest by rolling an 11, I will RNG between them to determine who takes him home. If you would like to pass on her, simply don't roll!]
Onward... The river carries you for many miles in your dilapidated boat, cradling you in its currents. At long last, you find yourself among grassy plains, no longer at the mercy of the trees, unable to catch a glimpse of the sky. Relief floods through you. While the journey may have been harrowing, the scenery itself was beautiful - even if it hid lurking dangers. All the same, you are glad to have made it out. You’ve completed your tropical trek, and you hope that that will be the last one you undertake for a while.
As your boat bobs against the riverbank and you clamber out, you spot a brilliantly-colored mare in the distance. These plains just outside the rainforest are her territory, and she has come to welcome you to it. [You’ve reached the homeland of the Painted Bunting prize!]
