If there was a place that broke Crystals heart more it was the Redwoods and she could smell the decay in the air. The rot of the plants around her and the trees as they withered into nothing. She felt pained seeing it. She couldn't do anything to bring this place to life. Nature had a way of rebuilding itself, but she knew it had moved on to another place and flourished. This was just a reminder that even though nature was mighty and strong; it was also fragile. She was happy no one else from her pack say this because they would remain here and try building it back up to what it once was even if it was obviously a lost cause. They were a hopeful bunch and while she would try helping, she would know it just wasn't going to lead to a good result. It wasn't that she had doubts, she knew what limitations were and knew when it was too much.

Slipping through the dead woods, she smelled the soft scent of a deer in the area which was odd since there was nothing to really forage around here. Maybe at one point there would be something, but right now everything was dead. Either way she was hungry so she slowly stalked after the deer feeling her stomach churn the closer she got and the stronger the buck's scent filled her nose. "May the spirits guide this soul to a place of peace." She spoke softly under her breath as she lowered herself to the ground. She spotted the lone buck in front of her and flicked her tail once before darting towards the male as quickly as she could. She was well rested and knew she would need all the energy she could get for this since male deer always posed a threat. They were dangerous and she could be easily get impaled by his antlers.

She was quiet enough that the buck didn't even see her coming as she leaped onto his back digging her claws and fangs into his hide. She was trying to injure him as much as possible in the first attack. She clawed and bit as much as she could before getting thrown off. The smell of blood was thick in the air and she was covered in a good amount of it now. She rose to her feet feeling a little sore from being tossed to the ground, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. She watched the buck run off and she knew he wasn't going to be able to go far with those injuries. She then started to run after him before colliding with something solid causing her to topple onto the ground with a thud.

It hurt, but she was more concerned about what she actually ran into. She looked at the male wolf she toppled over and stood up noticing she got some blood on him from the collision. "I'm sorry..I was..preoccupied..are you hurt?" She asked with slight concern in her voice before looking where the buck ran off. She didn't see him, but he couldn't have gone far.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. He hated the Redwoods. It reminded him too much of death, although that was probably the point. It was, after all, dead. His nose wrinkled at the scent, ears flat against his head. Maybe if he could master gardening he wouldn't need to keep returning here for that damn mushroom, but he hadn't yet. The decay of the trees around him reeked. Or, at least to him they did.

He didn't enjoy it; it unsettled him. His paws soundlessly hit the ground, not wanting to alert anyone who may be in the woods itself. He doubted he'd enjoy anyone who willingly came into the Redwoods, although that was hypocritical in nature seeing as he himself frequently came by.

He was tense, on edge as he licked at his teeth. It wasn't that his lack of medicine had gotten to the point of withdrawal -- he was just waiting for something to jump out at him. He had heard enough stories about things that bumped in the night within the woods. He'd be grateful to be out by the time the sun set, but luckily he had arrived quite early.

Despite being on edge, he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. He was focused on the stories he heard and the tension that radiated through him, spouting logic after logic at how of course there weren't monsters in the woods! So, when he bumped into someone propelling forward he not only fell backwards but also let out an strained and undignified yelp as he was snapped out of his trance.

It took a second for it all to click; exactly 32 seconds. His head reeled as he focused on the she-wolf, eyes widening. Great -- now he could demonstrate how horrible he was at conversing. She was pretty, but he could smell blood. Where was it? He looked down, noticing wherever it came from it had gotten on him. Was he hurt? No... was she hurt? Did he hurt her? Concern flashed in his eyes as he composed himself, nervously lowering his head to look at her.

It had been weeks since he saw another wolf. s**t. Did he remember basic manners? Of course he did, ugh. He wasn't that dumb.... right?

"No I-- no I should have been looking... I usually do... I think--" Quick. Say something actually important. Deities he sucked at talking. It was so nerve wracking! "I'm okay? Are you okay? There's blood -- it's not my blood. Did I hurt you? Why were you running?"

Luckily for the male, she didn't have a evil bone in her body and wouldn't attack him for ruining her chances at a good meal. She in fact was more concerned about him and the fact that she could have injured him in the collision. It wasn't a gentle bump and even she was feeling a little sore from the abrupt meeting. "I'm glad to hear that your okay..I was a little preoccupied and didn't realize someone else was around." She spoke in a soft subtle tone, but also an emotionless one. It wasn't that she was completely void of emotions. At a young age she was pretty much told to be as emotionless as possible since emotions could get you in trouble. While it was partially true, she did feel things even if she pushed them away and kept a level head about her. "I'm fine..I am just a little sore from the collision...and no this isn't either of our blood. I was out hunting a deer..a buck actually and he is a pretty large one at that.." She said as she shook herself off a little bit. She probably looked a hot mess, but that was okay since it would rinse off fine in the river later.

She was a little happy to have run into this male though. If it was anyone else she might have had issues, but he seemed genuinely concerned for her well being like she was of his. He also was a lot more skittish then the males she has encountered during her time in these lands.

"If you would like to help..I did badly injure him and he will be easy to track..There would be enough food for the both of us and I hate seeing so much go to waste." She knew it wouldn't go to waste with all the other creatures out there. She honestly just wanted an excuse for some company. Traveling alone was something she was accustomed to, but lately she was missing her sisters and really missed having a shoulder to lean on once in awhile.

"If you are injured though..I can treat you..we will just need to find some herbs.." She was at least offering that option since she didn't know for sure if he was okay.

She slowly moved away from him and towards the direction the buck ran off in. She knew he wasn't going to last long out there with a wound like that, but she needed to be the first one there before another predator got a hold of him. "Guide me.." She spoke low and soft almost whispering as she closed her eyes. She then sniffed the air and opened them slowly turning herself in the exact location she needed to go. A little west from where they were standing already. "What is your name? You seem troubled..if you need someone to talk to..I am a good listener." She then started to move slowly hoping that the male would follow. She sensed something was bothering him or maybe she was just overthinking things. She was a helper. A mender. A healer. This was who she was, but she also was craving companionship.

Because for the first time in her life she was lonely.

Preoccupied, like him. They must have both been lost in thought, then. He winced as his head throbbed from the impact. A headache, great. It'd be fine once he found that damn mushroom and returned home, though. That, or a good nights sleep. He eyeballed her with concern, confirming she was indeed fine. Probably rattled and sore, but fine. His eyes flicked up as she addressed the blood, head turning to look past them.

Ah, that made sense. Wait -- he had gotten in the way of her meal. s**t, he hadn't meant to ruin her night. He turned back to her, about to apologize when she extended the offer for his help. That was a good way to apologize, if anything. Helping her fell the deer would make up for their mutual sore limbs for sure.

"Help? I can help. Are you sure about sharing? You don't have to," he answered, although his ears had perked and interest was abundant in his eyes. Deer -- he liked that idea. He was just going to grab a mouse or something along the way. Something easy. He shook his head as she offered treatment, tail flicking absently.

"No, I'm okay. I think. I'm pretty sure, at least." He didn't feel anything worse then a sore head. He eyeballed her intently as she whispered something low, unable to catch exactly what it was. He followed right behind her, keeping a respectable distance as his eyes drew back to her. She was pretty, he acknowledged. He wasn't biased, either, but the blue did fit her. Or maybe he was. He wasn't sure.

"My name? Graverobber," he answered, voice low and quiet. "What is yours?" That was polite, right? At her last question he wrinkled his nose, sighing softly. The damn mushroom -- did his plight really show on his face?

"I'm not sure if I'm troubled. I'm looking for something. A mushroom. Small and blue. It's here; I've seen it. But it's hard to find..." He paused, shrugging gently.

"Usually when I come here there's someone also looking for something. A secret? I hear rumors the Redwoods is hiding something. Usually they're hostile. Makes finding the mushroom harder -- makes it dangerous." He looked back at her, realizing the relief he felt that she hadn't been what he feared. "I'm glad I met you, instead."

When he agreed to helping her she felt a little more at ease since two wolves were better then one when it came to taking down a large buck and she felt like she probably wouldn't suffer an injury now. "I'm fine with sharing..I would be more upset if the rest of the deer went to waste." It was true. She didn't like wasting anything. She would use as much of the animal that she could before moving on. She had learned that through her youth and it was something that had stuck with her through her adulthood.

She gave him a small nod and was at least happy he wasn't injured. She wouldn't know what to think of herself if she hurt someone else. As she continued along the trail towards the buck, she noticed droplets along the way and blood smeared along some foliage. It was good that she could track him and the smell of blood was so thick in the air there was no way the duck was going to escape. "My name is Crystalline Nebulous, but I am called Crystal for short. You can also call me whatever you would like." She was never fond of her name, but she accepted it. Her parents named them more holy sounding names on purpose. It was a means of both standing out and being more serene.

"A blue mushroom?" She asked him curiously as she turned her head around to look at him. She stopped in her tracks and looked at him curiously. She had traveled a lot and never once saw something like that before. It intrigued her and she really wanted to see this blue mushroom. "I would like to go with you to find this blue mushroom...if you wouldn't mind the company?" She was a female that loved to learn and experience the world. She wasn't scared of going into dangerous situations as long as she trusted the other with her and he didn't seem so bad so far. If he was he would have attacked her by now. "I will watch your back and you can watch mine? That way if it really is dangerous..we will be prepared." She nodded before continuing along the path.

"After we have eaten our fill we will go there." She as she stepped through the blood soaked foilage, she noticed the buck on the ground struggling to walk. He had lost a lot of blood and was probably weak from the pain at this point. "I'm glad I met you too." She spoke softly to him as she stepped forward feeling her stomach growl as the buck struggled to rise to his feet. "I'm sorry..but I will make this quick so that you do not suffer anymore." With that she bolted forward and latched herself onto the buck's throat. She hoped the beast would go down quickly now that the male was there to help her.

He nodded at her question, glancing her way nervously. It seemed blue was heavily involved in his life today. His dye, her dye, the mushroom. He didn't mind, of course. In fact, meeting her wasn't the worst thing. He was worried about saying the wrong thing, sure, but she seemed kind. Understanding, maybe? She hadn't yet said anything about him that he perceived as negative. Hell, she was even sharing a meal with him! How kind was that?

His head tilted at her offer, ears perking up. Well, two noses were better than one they always said. Who was they? He scrunched his nose, casting that long thought tirade aside. No room for random babbles -- he had a deer to hunt.

"You can come. Yes. It'd be nice? They're very small. The extra paws would help." He had never looked with someone before. Company wasn't usual in his life. Yes, he had met a few wolves here and there, but they always left after they got what they needed from him. It wasn't even a bad thing. Graverobber just knew wolves came and went. No one had wanted to adventure with him, even if just briefly. That strange and empty feeling in his chest was unnoticeable at the moment, even. That constant pulling to keep exploring and consuming his medicine to numb the loneliness and panic had consumed his life for so long, but right now it was barely noticeable.

That was... pathetic. He grimaced at himself. Just because a pretty she-wolf wanted to hunt mushrooms with him he was behaving like this? Was he really that lonely? What kind of wolf was he? Not a good one, it seemed. Still, he glanced her way, tail flicking once. He was glad for the company.

"Thank you," he added, although the words died in the back of his throat when he smelled blood. They were close. He watched her curiously, one paw raised. She was talking to the deer -- apologizing to it. Why? He wanted to know more, but then she jumped at the deer. While lanky and long, Graverobber still had the same vicious teeth as any other wolf, and they quickly joined her. He had, in the last second, remembered her apology.

Quick. She wanted this to be quick and as painless as possible. So when his bite landed it found a vital vein in the throat and crushed it. With that, the deer went still and he detached himself, licking blood from his teeth.

"Is it dead?" He asked quietly, kneading the dirt with his paws as his stomach rumbled. He was hungrier than he thought.

The buck was dead and she gave the male a small nod to let him know the deed had been completed. It was still saddening for her that things had to be this way, but she needed to eat and the creature was there for a reason. Everything was there for a reason. She walked up to the buck and looked down at the lifeless thing before closing her eyes. "You are no longer in pain and can now rest. You will not be forgotten because you gave up your life in order to sustain us for longer." She said in a low tone knowing that the male heard her, but she didn't care. This was who she was and she didn't hide it from anyone. If he had a problem with it then that was his own issue it wasn't hers.

She slowly opened her eyes once more and looked over to Graverobber with a small smile. It was barely noticeable and if it wasn't for him she probably would have been chasing this creature for longer. She heard the soft growl of his stomach once more and nudged him gently with her nose. "You eat first. I will eat after you. Your my guest and it's the least I can do for you." She said softly to him and was happy to at least be able to give them both meals. She watched him closely before moving off to the side feeling a little more at ease now that she rid the beautiful creature of it's pain. "You are a strong male..it's been a long time since I have been around a male..let alone someone strong like you." She came from a world where males weren't part of the equation.

After moments of waiting for him to at least eat something, she walked over to the kill and ate her own fill. She wasn't going to wait for a long time and at least let him get the better juicy parts before she dived in herself. When she was full, she licked her fangs clean of the blood and stepped away from the kill feeling like she could finally think. "Now...about the blue mushrooms you mentioned earlier..this is something you need to find?" She asked with her bright blue eyes looking at him as if she was trying to see into his soul. She could tell he wasn't a bad wolf. She was a good judge of character and if he was he was very good at hiding that part of himself.

"After this..we should try finding them..I am still learning the ways of this land..and I would love to go on that adventure with you." She felt a small bond growing between them. Maybe a friendship, but this was a good thing for her. She didn't have anyone else to rely on and maybe this could be be what she needed.

"Do you have a family?"

It was always something she asked because family wasn't something she had anymore.

She was alone.

He watched her silently, eyes curiously examining her body language. It wasn't remorseful. Respect, maybe? For the deer? He glanced at the deer, blinking owlishly. He hadn't considered the sacrifice the deer made for them, although unwillingly. For a moment he considered the prey and the life they had prior. Had they had a family? Friends? Children?

He was snapped from thought when a cold nose nudged him. He looked down towards Crystal, ears flicking up. Him? First? But she had injured it prior to his arrival. Although, if she was sure, which she seemed she was, did he want to protest? He was awfully hungry...

So he didn't. Instead, he nodded, quietly padding to the deer and hungrily eyeing it. He went for the spot most wolves preferred; the stomach itself, although he left considerable room and food for her. He almost missed her later comments, although it was clear he didn't as his eyes met hers curiously. Was he a strong male? Him? The scrawny and skittish wolf who was longer than he was strong? He pondered her words, trying to find the weight in them and why she bestowed them on him. He was, however, easily distracted by food.

When he was done he stepped away, licking blood and carnage from his maw. She slipped past him and he quietly groomed his face, ensuring he at least looked presentable. Something about the female made him want to try, at least. Perhaps because she was one of few who saw something in him. How long had it been since he heard anything positive said about himself? Hell, he wasn't even kind to himself. It was why he consumed the brain numbing drug in the first place. Not feeling was better then the self-hatred he had.

When she was done he sat straighter, nodding immediately at her question. The blue mushroom -- the bane of his existence at this point. The ingredients for his "medicine" were easy enough to find other than this damned mushroom, and he kept failing trying to cultivate it.

"Yes. It's small. Very small. I only need a few. Three, maybe? They grow in groups." The hard part was finding said groups. His head tilted as she mentioned adventure, tail tapping against the ground. Why did she want to spend time with him? Did he hate it? No, not at all. He was lonely. So lonely. He never had the guts to find a pack or believe anyone would want his company, but here she was; eager to start an adventure with a stranger. His tail thumped again; just once. Was this actually happening?

"With me? You don't know me; are you sure? What if I am a bad wolf? Or got us lost?" How could she trust him so fast? Why did she? He was being a hypocrite, honestly, but Graverobber wasn't going to acknowledge that. He trusted her. Greatly. They had just met and already he found himself trusting the wolf she presented herself as. Yet he couldn't see what he himself offered for her.

Her last question caused a grimace. He shook his head, flicking his eyes down. "No. They're gone. I wasn't wanted." Or, that's the story he knew. Of course he never could know that his mother had searched for him long ago. "I've been alone a long time. Everyone leaves."

He spoke matter-of-factly, as if this was the normal in his life and there was nothing sad about it. Except, it hurt, he just liked to drown that hurt with a medicine that did him no good. He looked up and then past her before returning his gaze.

"You're alone, too, aren't you?" He paused, voice dropping gently. "Does it hurt?"

She knew he wasn't a bad wolf. Deep down there was something telling her that he wasn't as bad as he thought he was. She was full and ready to go on an adventure with him. She liked the idea of something different. Something exciting in her life. She never really had gone on an adventure before. "If you were a bad wolf you would have shown that already..you would have hurt me or at least tried to do something deceptive. You have not and I feel you genuinely need to find these mushrooms. I trust my instincts and they are telling me to trust you." She gave him a firm nod as she licked her muzzle of any remaining blood that might have been there. She was fairly honest about what she believed and this was something she felt in her gut was true. "If you get us lost..I will find way to bring us back to the right place..we will be guided...because when your on an adventure...there is no wrong way. Your exploring. Seeing things for the first time and trying to find things you never found before." She spoke honestly and truthfully. There was something about the way she spoke that really made her seem like an older soul then she was. She was young, but wise. It was a hard combination to find.

"Your not alone anymore." She looked into his eyes with her bright blue hues and then turned away. She was ready to go. She was willing to be his shoulder to lean on. "Yes I am alone. My family didn't want me to see the world so I left to see everything there was to see." She said as she began walking with no destination in mind. "Eventually we all leave..and become one with nature...But for the moment you are not alone. I won't leave unless you want me to leave. Do you want me to leave?" She asked looking over to him as they walked.

"A little, but I will be okay." She nodded.

A part of her was happy she wasn't alone.

Would he have? Graverobber didn't know what bad wolves did or when they showed their true colors, although he suspected many would have lunged by now. He didn't know what it was about him she trusted so, but he wouldn't protest. Something was reassuring about this interaction, which wasn't a common occurrence for Graverobber. Sure, he was generous and receptive to other wolves, but he always judged his own words and wondered if he was worth the others time.

However, for once he felt genuinely as if his presence was doing good. It didn't making talking easier, but nothing helped that. It didn't make the emptiness in his chest leave, either, but he wasn't sure what he needed for that to go. The medicine was a good way to numb it, and as they stood there he felt his bones ache for it. Would she like the numb him more? Did he want her to like him more? He didn't know -- it was too soon to know.

But he liked how she looked at him like he was a good soul.

'You're not alone anymore.' His eyes flicked back to her, feeling something move. For a moment, the hollow and dreadful feeling in his chest was gone. Not numb, like the medicine did -- gone. It returned within a few seconds, leaving him feeling ripped off. What was that?

"No," he answered. He didn't want her to leave. The quiet male turned his head towards the Redwoods, contemplating the change in... well, everything. Was she claiming she'd continue to follow him after? Did he mind that? No, he didn't think he did. It sounded nice.

He padded past her, pausing to ensure she caught up before beginning to head to the direction he had last found mushrooms.
