Quote: Entire parts of town are trussed up in banners and stars to commemorate the holiday. You can find them dangling from lampposts, walls, trees--paper stars are everywhere. While this has become common in the past few days, what’s uncommon is how some of them seem to glow at night. While passing through town, more stars seem to light up, guiding you down some strange path. There is an unnatural pull to them, a lull deep in your chest that something just meant for you is waiting at the end. When the path of stars end, what do you find? Someone? Something you lost? The answer to some question you’ve been asking yourself for some time? The stars eventually lose their glow and do not light back up again; any examination yields that they seem to be normal paper. The decorations were doing that glowing thing again, and Alpersite had decided to follow them once more to see what he would find. Again, he had a hope that it would be Sidouer, even though he now knew that such hope was…wasn’t what he should be looking for, but turning off his feelings wasn’t an option.
And there were feelings. A lot of them.
He continued moving as the lights did, and eventually he felt another lieutenant’s aura up ahead and he gave a smile, excited to meet someone new, someone who he should be meeting.
As he reached the spot where the other lieutenant stood, he slowed, not wanting to have another collision as he had with Lopezite.
The other lieutenant was…nice looking. Cute. His outfit was a lot less conspicuous than his own, and his hair and eyes and freckles…
Oh if he didn’t remind him of December.
For a moment, the smile on his face faltered, but he forced it back. “Hey! I’m Alpersite. It’s nice to meet you…were ah…were you following the stars too?” He knew he wasn’t crazy. This wasn’t the first time they had shown him the way to someone.

Another day, another night where Fettelite felt as if he would fall over at any moment.
Since the return from overseas, he had been exhausted. Nightmares of being tortured plagued him, and he stumbled around, messing his orders up more often than not. His general had no pity on him, and the beatings... The pain.. It all was so much worse.
Despite it all, he trudged on, with a smile ever present on his face. No one needed to know his exhaustion or pain! That would only cause problems.
So here he was now, smiling as he gazed up at the twinkling star lights above in a moment of peace, until his name was called.
Even then, he turned his gaze at the man with that same sweet smile. He didn't really have as much bouncing energy as he normally did, but there was no reason to be unfriendly.
"Hello! I'm Fettelite! And... yes, yes I was! They sure are pretty, aren't they? I think they are prettier than the night sky above, cuz it's something made with our own hands. Not our hands, but people's hands. Makes me feel like I can make something pretty like this too! Wait, no I wasn't following them, I just kinda stopped here! Why were you following them?"

Alpersite moved a little closer, sighing and turning his gaze back to them. “I followed them before and they led me to someone who decided that I was going to get some help in all of this. When they started glowing again, I don’t know. I followed hoping that they’d lead me to my brother. He’s been missing for a few months now and I’ve been worrying to death about him. But. It’s very nice to meet you, Fettelite. I’m a little jealous that your outfit…doesn’t stand out with quite the same intensity as mine does.”
It was true though. The stars in the trees…the way the city was decorated. This other lieutenant had a point.
It was beautiful because it was handmade.
The sight suddenly made him want to design a quilt for the occasion. Something covered in stars…something really beautiful. Maybe he’d be able to find some glow in the dark fabric if he were lucky…
“What brings you out tonight if you weren’t following the stars? Just enjoying the festival and the warm weather?” He watched the fellow agent and smiled softly. “Maybe we could make something, you know. I’m pretty talented with some aspects of um. Craftyness…if that’s even a word. I was thinking of making a quilt if you’d ever want to come over and help me?”
If he could get friends within the Negaverse…a wider network of support… December would be found in no time.

"Oh no, your brother! I'm sorry he's missing... Did something happen? Oh, but I really shouldn't pry, I'm sorry... B-But maybe I could help! If you want me to help. I don't know alot of people but I do go lots of places. Maybe he needs help." It made him squirm a little, saying that. As much as he loved to help people, he wasn't often helped himself.. That's just how things were, and that's what came to mind when he was strapped to that chair and beaten over and over again for information he just didn't have.
It was a scary memory, and he shook his head, trying to forget that had happened... Physical marks were left behind, pieces of him were taken away... No matter how hard he tried, there wasn't going to be any real relief from those memories, not when they were so fresh in his mind.
Luckily for him, Alpersite changed the topic, and Fettel smiled at the thought of a quilt. "Ooh, really? My brother does that kinda thing too! Maybe you two would get along! I'm sure he'd like much nicer friends than alot of the people in the Negaverse seem to be... Oh, but please don't let anyone know I said that! I'm sure if my general heard about my whining again, he'd have me beaten... Um... Anyway, yeah! I make little model planes and stuff! I don't know how good I'll be at sewing, but I can cut triangles and squares just fine!"

“He went out of the country, that was all he said to me and…I don’t know. It seemed...It was just a strange situation and…” Alpersite sighed. “I just want him home. I want to make sure that he’s okay. If you could keep an eye out, that would be wonderful…His…He…” The lieutenant drew in a long breath and managed a smile. “He’s the best little brother out there. And…I only just got him back. The thought of losing him…makes me feel so sick.”
He watched the other agent’s face and moved closer, frowning slightly. “…Beaten? That…that’s crap. Is that really what they do to people who…whine? You’re not even whining…” There was concern on his face and he finally scoffed. “We should be friends. I’d like to meet your brother…I need more friends, I think. This December thing has been keeping me up at night…that’s his name, my little brother. So if you ever meet a kid with white hair and really pretty lavender eyes named December…just please, please tell him that June is looking for him…” He swallowed, looking around and making sure that there was nobody else nearby before letting his powered form drop.
“If he’s angry at me…could you just…ask him to call or text me so I know he’s okay…?” June shrugged and looked a little hopefully at the lieutenant. “…We are allowed to be friends outside of our costumes, right?” He hoped he wasn’t doing this wrong…

Fettelite knew very well he could ramble on. He wanted to keep talking about happier things, like their hobbies or maybe other friends they had, but it didn't really seem like the other lieutenant wanted to...
That was fine, if he wanted to be sad, he could be sad. He was sad too...
"Don't worry about it, okay? Lots of bad things happen that we just can't control so.. we gotta deal with it as best we can! I think--" He paused, unsure if what he had just said was true or not. White hair, Lavender Eyes? December?
This couldn't be June... And yet there he was before him, powered form shed and standing there looking as hurt as he remembered him looking when June had found him in a dumpster.
"June!! JUNE it's me!!" A half second later, he too shed his powered form, left in dingy, torn clothing and missing a shoe. Looks didn't matter right now, all he knew was that his big brother was there before him, and he flung himself at June, giving him the tightest hug he could manage.
"I'm not angry, I'm not, I'm okay! I didn't... I didn't know you were powered! You've really been looking for me? Why? I don't... I don't understand..." Even as excited as he felt, there were tears forming in his eyes. Relief mixed with panic at seeing his older brother like this.
"W-why are you powered?! June, no! Why?!"

For a moment, the male didn’t quite know what was going on, but his arms closed around December’s form before his mind had a chance to catch up. “I…what? You…oh my god, December…” He held the boy with more strength than he realized he had, pressing a kiss to the dirty head.
“I…I was looking for you. And someone said that if I had more power, I’d be able to find you easier and he…gave me this ah…gift? But then he just kind of left me to flop around and didn’t actually help me find anything, but I’m muddling through as best as I can…God you look like s**t, Dess. Come on, let’s go home. I have some presents for you, and you have some extra clothes there…you…”
He swallowed, looking away suddenly. “…Were you just…avoiding me? I’ve been looking for you since you told me you were leaving…you didn’t give me any information and…you never tried to contact me, it’s been months! Why wouldn’t I be looking for you? How long have you been home? Why didn't you come back to me? Why didn't you come home, December? Did I do something wrong?”
There was sudden hurt in his voice, confusion. Why would his little brother have chosen to romp around looking like a homeless person rather than…come back to stay with him?

"June..." December whispered his name against his shoulder as he held him tight, trying to keep in the sobs that really wanted to just escape.
"No! No, I wasn't avoiding you, I swear I just... June, they sent me away, they sent me and I was tied to a chair and my ear... I didn't want you to see me hurt!" When his brother pulled away, he took the moment to push back his hair from his ears, showing how most of his right ear was gone, the skin still dark and scabbed from the still-healing wound.
... June had joined the Negaverse... He had joined to find him. This was wrong, everything was wrong!
"You shouldn't have joined... June, the Negaverse is bad... It's so bad, I'm... I'm so sorry you joined because of me..."The grip he had on June's shirt only grew tighter. "They... They killed May and October! They burned down our home! The Negaverse is awful, and.. And it's all my fault you're part of this now... I'm so so sorry... I'm sorry, I'm sorry.."

June held the boy close, trying to sooth him, trying to provide some comfort to him. When he saw the ear, or rather, lack thereof, he nearly began weeping. Finally he simply shook his head. “I was desperate…I needed to know that you were safe…I needed to find you.”
With this new information, it felt as though his head were spinning.
The…the Negaverse had been the cause of his sibling’s deaths? And yet…because he joined…he now did have his brother once more in front of him, once more in his arms.
Reaching out, he made sure to do that, pulling December back into a tight embrace. “…I didn’t…didn’t know all of that but…I knew I had to find you. You’re my little brother and I couldn’t stop looking. I couldn’t…sleep at night without knowing where you were…”
He held the boy close, closing his lavender colored eyes. “…I don’t think you realize what you mean to me. I’d go to Hell and back willingly if it meant bringing you home again. I was away from my family for too long, I’m not going to lose the one tie that I have left…”

"Desperate or no... June, you didn't look for me before, I just kinda... Showed up, you know? I would have shown up again... But the Negaverse isn't safe! It's not a good place or a good job or a good anything! Did you even get the information you were looking for? No... No, you didn't! It wasn't the Negaverse that brought me here, but these starlights that led me to you! Things people, normal people, make on their own... You didn't need to join them to find me.." December gave in, clutching at the fabric on June's back.
As upset as he was by the whole situation, he desperately and deeply had missed June... After all... June was the only family he could talk to still. Who knows where the others were, or if they even cared still.
Would it take them finding him in a dumpster to bring them back, like it did with June?
"I'm not gonna go away again... I promise, so you don't have to be sad... A-and I'll get stronger so you don't have to hurt like I do either! It'll be okay, June, I promise.."

For a moment, December’s words felt like a knife slipping between his ribs and June felt almost dizzy from the pain that they caused. No, he hadn’t looked for his brother before…but that had been a completely different circumstance…that had been something that…
“It was different then, Dessy.” June said softly, voice thick with emotion. “I was a stupid, stubborn, headstrong child who thought I didn’t need anything or anyone. Finding you again made me realize just how important family was…and…I wasn’t going to lose you again. Finding you helped fill the ache that I had which I just…kept saying was stress or whatever…but…they said joining would give me the ability to help find you…”
He swallowed and rubbed at his eyes. “I can’t back out of it now, so let’s not…focus on me being a part of it…It’s something that I’ve got myself into, and now that…I’m in it, we don’t have to keep secrets from one another anymore…right? Isn’t that how it works?”
June stroked the boy’s cheek lightly and gave a soft smile. “…It just means we can be even closer. I’m going to get stronger with you. We can protect each other. Have each other’s backs…okay? Does that work for you, little brother?”

Don't keep secrets...? December knew he couldn't keep that promise. If June hurt now, he could only imagine how badly he'd hurt if all his pain, the truth came to light.
He bit his lip, anxious, but nodding. Right now there wasn't a reason to tell June everything, including what happened to May and October... He was in the Negaverse now... If he really tried, he could find out easily what happened to them..
Dessy didn't want to think about it, not when June was already hurting like this.
"Yeah... We can get stronger... But probably not like this, crying in the middle of the walkway." He managed a small laugh, pulling away a little bit to instead hold June's hand. "... Can we go back home now? Um... To your home... I live in the barracks right now, and I got another friend who wants me to stay with him, but tonight... I really, really would love to have a sleep over like we did before I had to go away..."

June squeezed the boy’s hand and nodded. “Yeah…we can go home, Des. And…it can be your home if you want it to. You don’t have to stay in the barracks if you don’t want to…staying with me…that’s home for as long as you want it to be. I promise.”
If December had a friend that he wanted to stay with…June wouldn’t force him to make a home with him…but he wanted to. He wanted to just keep December safe and take all of the burdens off of him that he could but…
But he knew damn well that his brother wouldn’t let him do that…and that thought made him sad.
“Yeah, Dessy. Let’s go home. We’ll order a pizza, get all cozy on the couch and just…just relax.”
Just be a family. For as long as they could be.
