Quote: Destiny City has installed a Reservoir that is finally ready for the public to use, only five minutes outside of the eastern side of town; it used to be quite a distance to travel to the nearest beach, but during construction Destiny City has modified the lake's shoreline to mimic sandy ocean beach fronts. If you want the summer experience, you can head over there to check it out! Bonfires, picnics, parties, and sand castles seem to be everywhere, but now's the best time to enjoy the water! It's cool and clear and full of fresh water fish! The only thing is...the sand squeaks when you walk on it. Is that normal? Myles wasn't much for the beach, if only because very pale skin and very bright sun did not make for a good combination. Even with the highest SPF Sunscreen he could find, he knew he'd be leaving here as red as a lobster if he didn't take sizable precautions.
Swimming trunks simply weren't an option; he showed up with sunglasses and an oversized sunhat in addition to a colorful button up shirt with a repeating cat pattern. He wore his trunks, but he wasn't going to leave his legs exposed to the sun; he wore knee high socks with a pattern that almost matched the cats on his shirt.
If he had any shame with his attire, he hid it well; Myles wasn't there for a fashion show, he was there to get out of the city and enjoy at least one summer day like a normal person.
Though, he was certain he could already smell himself baking.
He wasn't going to stay for long; he'd brought a backpack full of extra sunscreen, a towel if he needed it, and a few snacks. He was more interested in the caves nearby, if only because there was less of a chance of catching fire. Still, he was excited; he tugged on the vibrant purple star keychain he'd gotten from a vendor earlier today, zipping and unzipping the bag it was attached to as he walked. There were many people heading to the beach for the day; it was new and with the summer heat approaching, it was a great excuse to cool of and get out of the city.
He hadn't been on sand in years, so when he took his first step and it squeaked, his first thought was that he'd stepped on something. He leapt back and looked at the sand--the bottom of his shoe--and then frowned. A few seconds passed and then he tried to step again, only for the same squeak. Another step--another squeak.
There was a girl next to him and he looked at her; she looked like she belonged here, like she knew what she was doing. He stuck out like a sore thumb and he knew it, but it didn't stop him from blurting, "Is that you?"

Whilst the beach was one of those places that Saffron really enjoyed going, the distance to closest beach meant that it wasn't something that she had a chance to go to very often–
Which was why she had been following news of the Reservoir that the city had been installing with great interest.
Finally, finally , it was open to the public and it had coincided with a day off, which made it the perfect time to go and check it out.
As always, Saffron had dressed with care, taking care to debate over the choices in her wardrobe until she had put together a nice summery outfit, complete with large oversized sunglasses that she had picked up on a whim because she had thought that they looked cute - which she'd ended up perching atop the high ponytail that she had decided on for her hair. She had slipped on the high factor sun cream too, something that was unfortunately a necessity for her and her cousin both in the summer months due to the fair skin that the two of them had in common–
And she had invited Arian along too, figuring that it would be a nice opportunity for her to spend some time with her younger cousin, but hadn't been too surprise when he had politely turned her down.
Disappointed maybe, since it had been a few weeks since the last time that they had managed to catch up - but not surprised, as Arian had never really been a particularly big fan of the beach and whilst the Reservoir was not a beach the city had modified it to mimic one.
She was expecting water and was expecting sand - she was not expecting said sand to squeak however.
Saffron had initially thought that she had been imagining things, at least until around the fourth step in, but no the sand most definitely seemed to be squeaking.
So caught up was she in the puzzle of the squeaks, that it took a few moments for her to realise that the red-haired male that was very slightly ahead of her was actually addressing her, but after a few moments his words sunk in, her brown eyes looking puzzled as she asked "Is what me?" Kyuseisha no Hikari Apologies that this took me so long Kyu

Myles took another step, heard another squeak, and then stopped altogether to look at her. "The squeaking," he clarified. "...Is that you?"
He took another step, tentatively, and
Maybe it was because he had a hard time sitting still, or maybe because his curiosity wouldn't let him stop investigating, but he took another tentative step forward. It squeaked again and he blinked, announcing, "Oh! No, that's me."
A pause as he processed it.
"..That's me?"
No, no, no. Sand didn't squeak. He'd played in a million sandboxes before and they had never squeaked.
Something else suddenly registered and he looked back at Saffron.
"...Can you hear that, or am I losing my mind?"

Saffron's shoulders had stiffened slightly at the implication - real or otherwise - that the red-haired male thought that the squeaking was coming from her.
After all it wasn't exactly.. Well dignified - and even when she'd been back in high school she hadn't been the type to go about squeaking about everything - much less now when her high school days were long (but not tooo long past - or at least not ancient-long past).
"Well no..." She started, but by that point it seemed like the red-haired male had already taken a few more steps and discovered the obvious - at least to her the obvious - in that the squeaks were most definitely not coming from her.
"Actually it appears to be the sand" and despite herself, Saffron felt her lips quirk up in a somewhat rueful lopsided smile as her shoulders loosened.
She took a couple more steps of her own, before reaching down to scoop up some of the sand and let the fine grains trickle through her fingers as she added "It's pretty strange" because squeaking sand wasn't exactly something that fell under 'normal' - at least not by her book.

Perhaps an ordinary person might have flushed in embarrassment, or grunted and hurried off never to see her again. But Myles just lingered, took a few more steps, and said a long, "Oh."
He made a few more deliberate squeaks and then turned his attention back up to her again. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to accuse you of squeaking. I thought it was cute, I just didn't know where it was coming from."
He squeaked again, clearly entranced by the oddity of the situation.
"Have you been here before? Do you know why it does that?"
He'd been able to piece together that it wasn't his shoes if she could squeak, too--but sand, that squeaked? He'd been in the city for so long, seen so many weird things--but this was totally different. This was magical, in a way that youma and Senshi weren't.

"Well I'm not sure 'cute' is the word I'd use" Saffron said, "But your apology is accepted." After all the apology had sounded genuine enough and if truth be told, she was somewhat amused by the other's antics which made her think somewhat of a kid being let loose in a sweetie shop–
With the 'sweets' in this case swapped out for sand.
Saffron kept the thought to herself, although she couldn't help the slight amused quirk to her lips, one that lingered even as she shook her head at his next question, no make that questions - plural.
"No and no" she admitted, as she shook her head "It's actually my first visit here, but it seemed like a way to experience the fun of the beach without having to make the trip out to the actual beach."
And if truth be told, the reservoir certainly looked the part - at least if you didn't count the squeaks.
"I'm Saffy by the way, Saffy Laith" she said as she offered out her hand - because after all they'd been talking long enough that introductions seemed in order.

Myles wasn't going to argue that 'cute' might not be the best word to describe the squeaking sand (even though he couldn't help that he still thought it was adorable) but there was no way anyone could deny that Saffy Laith just sounded precious.
"Saffy?" he asked, clearly delighted. "That is a cute name." He jutted his hand out to meet hers and shook. "I'm Myles. Fischer. There's not much cute about my name. Unless you count the fact that when I was younger my brother called me Smyles. But if you look at me and say a name, chances are I'll respond to it."
He glanced at the water again and it was clear that he was still excited. "It seems like a lot of people got that idea--heading out here to experience things. I love that this place has opened. I went to the beach when I was younger, with my whole family? But it was a long drive. And I was small, so I didn't want to sit still. And now, I don't really have anyone who can go with me. I mean, my brother, but good luck getting him out of the city. He's a police officer, so he likes to stay in the city in case something goes wrong."
