He was so boored. The black wolf was sprawled along the side of one of the many snake-like rivers that branched off from the mother river. His back legs were stretched out to the side while his front legs teased the surface of the water. Golden eyes stared in the water, watching the lazy fish float about, staring back at him. Occasionally one would snap to the surface and catch a bug. But otherwise, they all just laid (and floated) where they were. Staring. All kinds of staring.

"I'll eat you!" Wicked growled, feeling slightly satisfied at the few fish that startled from the sound of his voice. But they were quick to get back in formation and stick with the others. "You think I'm bluffin', huh?"

He moved one of his large paws to splash in the water, but otherwise didn't get up from his perch. He snorted at the stupid fish that scattered, leaving him nothing but murky water to stare at for the moment.

At least until it began to clear again. And a fish reappeared. Then another. And... another.

"You asked for it!" He rolled to his feet in one fluid motion before leaping into the water, chasing after whichever fish was dumb enough to swim in his path. This game of 'catch' went on for a good few minutes until the black wolf was finally victorious. He stood tall and proud, fish caught in his jaws before slinking back to the shoreline to shake out his coat, dumping the fish at his paws.

"Told ya!" He grinned at his next meal.

User Image The great thing about being a puppy was that she didn't always have to work for a meal every day. There were a surprising amount of kind animals willing to share a meal with a seemingly lonely, starving pup. And Southern Shadow was learning how to really tug the heartstrings with her act.

This one seemed like any other target. Goofy, but at least competent enough to actually catch a fish. She wondered if he'd be the lesson-imparting type or the meal-sharing one. Fish weren't all the big in this river...Hrm. Time to experiment.

"Oh," Southern Shadow breathed nearby, the image of a shy, awed pup. "That was really good, mister..."

One paw smacked down on the fish to keep it from accidentally flopping back to the water. Oh no, he wasn't going to lose it after a successful catch! While it wasn't the biggest morsel of food, it would be tasty enough. He figured he would most likely wind up going back in the water to catch another one.

Golden eyes peered widely at the sudden little voice that spoke up. Last he had checked, there hadn't been anyone else around. But now, there was... a pup. A sweet little thing, it seemed.

Greaaaaaat.

Wicked blinked a couple more times to let his mind finish catching back up. Then he let his maw hang open in a toothy grin. "Happy to have provided such a show." Not. "Fish can be slippery little devils to catch." A small pause. "Just how long were you there?" He asked in genuine curiosity. Really, he swore he wasn't getting this bad at detecting the presence of another wolf. Even a half a wolf.

The fish at his paws finally stopped wriggling. He didn't remove his paw though. Past experience told him not to trust puppies. Well, and the fact he was never a nice pup himself.

"Have you ever gone fishing?" He asked, the beginnings of terrible ideas forming.

Southern Shadow shifted self-consciously, eyes dragging to the side. “Not long,” she replied with just enough childishness to be seen through. A lesser lie that bolstered the better lie of a hungry pup caught in the act of spying. “I just heard someone growling...”

(Seriously, who yelled at their food like that?)

At the question, she shook her head slightly, looking even more sheepish. “I wasn’t allowed near the river before...Mommy said it was dangerous for someone small like me, before she went away.” Her eyes darted up to the adult’s face and back down. “I’m sorry, I-I’m bothering you, huh...”

He hadn't been growling! Or had he? Wicked pondered this for a moment, still eyeing the small one. Okay, maybe he had been growling. At the fish. Because what the hell else was he supposed to do with the day?! Wicked just siiiiighed, refraining from commenting on the growling bit.

And continued to stare thoughtfully at the pup.

Okay, so maybe his day wouldn't be quite so boring after all. Especially with this little she-devil. Because he bet his furry butt she wasn't being completely truthful! He would know. Lies and manipulation had been his thing longer than hers (not by much).

"Well, seems your Mommy was right." He said sagely, pausing for effect. "Mostly right." The black wolf released his fish to pat the small fry on the head. "You see, the river is only dangerous if you fall in the deep parts."

And with that, he used his paw to send one small pup straight into the water. "Good thing this isn't the deep part." He added cheerfully.
