Graverobber curled tightly in his cave, having just returned from a recent adventure. Herbs scattered his den, forgotten in his earlier frenzy. While he often claimed he had a choice in the matter, Graverobber had an addiction that ran thick. If you asked him where he first encountered the blue goo you'd get another fabricated and elaborate story. The truth was, he didn't remember. Someone, somewhere, taught him about the pain killing medicine and how to make it. They didn't tell him it was addictive though.

His most recent trip had been to find the last herbs and mushrooms he needed for the medicine. Now that he had made it and lapped some up he was laying peacefully on the cave floor, watching the storm unfold. Thunder and rain danced together at the front of his cave and he stayed protected within his home. His tail thumped against the ground occasionally to the sound of thunder.

He was content, finally. The initial consumption of his medicine always numbed him to the core, but now that it was wearing off he could listen to the rain peacefully. He was glad, at that particular moment, to have a cave of his own. Gone were the days of him scrambling to find shelter. Sure, he had taken it from a bear, but really... if you were clever enough to outsmart a bear didn't you deserve the prize?

How did she end up in this mess? She was soaking wet and too far from her home to even run back the way she came. She would easily get lost and that wasn't what she needed right now during such a horrible storm. She trudged on through the muck and the grime feeling helpless for the first time ever in her life. Usually she was headstrong and never shown her fear, but right now she felt like she was in danger. She was lost no matter how many time she tried to go the same way she kept getting turned around and she just kept getting more tired the longer she struggled through the mud. There was no hope. No light in the horizon. Nothing close by that could be a shelter for her from the storm. She wished her uncle was there with her. He was bigger and a lot more experienced. He would know where they could go for safety.

She tried moving faster, but ended up tripping over a mud covered branch causing her to fall head first into the mud in front of her. She let out a small whimper of annoyance and sat up on weak legs. She took a moment to look around for any place that could keep her out of the storm even for a little while and that was when she saw it. A good size cave in the distance and didn't even take note of the male that resided in it. The rain was messing with her scent of smell and her vision was so blurred from how heavy the rain was coming down. Most animals weren't out in a storm as bad as this.

She used what strength she had to push her way towards the cave until she was inside and shook herself off a little bit. She felt disgusting, but luckily the rain took away most if not all of the dirt except for the small bit on her paws. She was wet and cold. Not a good combination for a young wolf like her. She could easily get sick and die if she wasn't careful. She took a moment to clean herself a little before hearing slight movement from inside the cave which caused her to look over. That was when she saw it. A male was already there and he didn't look very friendly at all. Even if she wasn't scared, she was in a vulnerable state and spot. It was either she took her chances with him or died in that storm.

"I just need to wait out the storm.." She said in a flat tone. Her ears lowering slightly. She had hurt her front right leg when she tripped. She could feel the pain shooting up it with each little bit of pressure she put on it.

He watched the rain lazily, tail flicking idly behind him. Then, there it was -- a small shape. His head snapped up, eyes locking on the figure as they came closer and closer. Finally, it became a solid form; a puppy. His head cocked to the side, tail freezing midair as they tumbled into his cave without once glancing at him. What in the world? Why was a puppy in his den? Not only that, but why were they alone? He squinted into the rain, looking for a larger figure possibly following the puppy. There was none. How... strange.

      Then the puppy spoke.

His head snapped to look at them; a fluid and birdlike movement. He thumped his tail against the ground once, eyes glancing back at the rain. Of course they needed to wait the rain out. Someone as small as them could die or even get sick.

"Where are your parents?" He found himself asking. Did that sound threatening? He cleared his throat, lifting from his spot and padding closer to examine her. "You can stay. But why were you even in that storm? What were you doing?"

He found it easier to talk while on the edge of bliss. He wasn't numb, not anymore, but he didn't feel the anxious flutter in his throat while talking. Instead, he felt a dull concern in the back of his head. He hadn't noticed their leg or how they held it yet. Instead he was focused on the fact the puppy was alone in a damn storm. How even...?

Then again, he had been alone his entire puppyhood. He doubted this one had the same experience. She was too healthy looking (for now). And yet here they were.

Snakeroot knew that most of the time she met a stranger they probably assumed she was an orphan since she was never with her parents or even some sort of guardian. She was use to the questions and the looks. She was okay with it for the most part since she never really felt lonely or felt anything for that manner. "My parents are..back in the pack lands..I don't really live with them..I stay with my uncle for the moment." She spoke as if nothing was definite and there was always a chance of things changing in the future, which wasn't a lie. Anything could happen. "I was exploring..I didn't think the storm would hit this soon.." She was a little cold and hoped to warm up when she dried off a little bit.

"Why are you sitting in here alone? Waiting out the storm?" She asked and was happy she was able to stay because it was terrible out. So bad in fact that she wouldn't have made it far if he kicked her to the curb. She shook off more excess water and curled up feeling a slight shiver come over her, but that was fine. It wasn't anything she couldn't handle. She was a lot warmer now then she was before. "What is your name?" She wasn't good at making friends, but being in such a vulnerable state at the moment left her guard down and she was willing to be a little more friendly then usual.

"My name is Snakeroot." She had no nickname or nothing else other then that name. It fit her. She couldn't explain it, but she felt like her parents did a good job naming her. "If the storm lasts too long...I will need food..I haven't eaten in awhile." She didn't want to add stress to the older male, but she was going to have to eat or she would get weak and could face getting sick.

"Something small should be fine.." She wondered what he would do or if he would ignore her hunger.

An ear flicked. So she did have someone, who most likely was looking for her. He'd keep that in mind. Hopefully whoever her uncle was wouldn't jump to conclusions and attack. Graverobber had witnessed cases of wolves kidnapping a puppy (when you travel so often you see some... harsh things). He could imagine someone being nervous to find their pup with some strange adult.

He cocked his head to the side, flicking his eyes to look around. "No, this is my home. Although... technically I am waiting out the storm." He settled back onto the ground, tail thumping gently against the floor. Pups were easy to talk to.

"Graverobber," he answered, noting her name carefully. Snakeroot. Interesting. He liked it. He glanced up to the opening of the cave, nodding absently. She'd need food, she was right. Luckily he had some from earlier. He rose, padding to the back of the cave and lifting a recently felled squirrel. He trotted back to her, dropping it near the small pup.

"I was saving this for the morning, luckily. I don't think hunting would be on the table in this storm." He stepped away from her, flopping back against the ground. Through the vague numbness he felt pride. Pride for helping someone in need and providing for them. It felt good to help.

"Did you get hurt? In the storm?"

Snakeroot didn't want to take food from the male, but she didn't know what to do otherwise and it didn't look like the storm was letting up anytime soon. This was bad. Very bad. She was stuck in a cave with a stranger. A stranger that didn't look like he was going away anytime soon and she was the one that came into his home. "Oh..then I'm intruding.." She said lightly as she eyed the squirrel feeling her stomach growl a little bit, but she didn't bother to start eating. She wasn't hungry enough yet. "It's nice to meet you..in different circumstances the meeting might have been a little better, but you can't really predict nature." She said calmly as she shook herself a little bit of the excess water feeling a little cold, but she would manage just fine. She was a strong pup that was for sure.

"No I didn't get hurt..I'm just more...I guess cold. I will be fine though. I don't need you to comfort me or anything." If there was one thing she hated it was being treated like she was weaker or younger. She knew she was, but she didn't really like others seeing her that way. "Why do you live in a cave alone? Don't you have family or...someone you care about?" She asked looking over at him with her bright blue eyes. She didn't want to pry, but she definitely wanted to know what exactly this male was about. She wanted to know what made him tick if she was going to be stuck in there for a little bit.
